POLITICS: OBAMA’S “MUSLIM FAITH” / MCCAIN TAKES 5-POINT LEAD / OBAMA RESPONDS TO NEW GOP AD / REPUBLICANS UPSET WITH OPRAH
Tuesday, September 9, 2008
Sen. Barack Obama said “my Muslim faith” while chatting with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on “This Week” when he was criticizing the quiet smear campaign suggesting he is a Muslim. But anti-Obama groups had sliced it out of context within an hour, and it began to spread like wildfire.
Obama has stated repeatedly (and even launched a website to help spread the truth) that he has never been a Muslim, was not raised as a Muslim and is a committed Christian.
MCCAIN TAKES 5-POINT LEAD
After accepting the Republican presidential nomination last week, Sen. John McCain polled at 49 percent, compared to 43 just before the convention.
He leads Democratic counterpart Sen. Barack Obama by five points, according to a recent Gallup poll.
Obama enjoyed a four-point increase from 45 percent last month before his nomination acceptance at the Democratic National Convention started to 49 percent after it concluded.
According to Gallup, since 1964, the typical convention bounce has been five percentage points.
OBAMA RESPONDS TO NEW GOP AD
The McCain/Palin campaign launched a new ad, “Original Mavericks“, to which the Obama-Biden campaign responded with an ad of its own, “No Maverick“.
Sen. Barack Obama talked to Keith Olbermann (who, along with Chris Matthews, were recently dropped as the anchors of live political events) about how he plans to keep his message clear in the muddied campaign waters and how the McCain/Palin campaign is able to “stretch the bounds of spin into new areas”.
According to Obama,
“The Republicans can’t govern, but they run smart campaigns. And frankly, they are not always policed by the media as effectively as they should be. I was struck with how little scrutiny some of the claims that John McCain and Sarah Palin were making, how little they were subjected to the scrutiny coming out of the convention. It’s our job to press the point and make the case, and I think the Republicans have been successful at working the refs in this game. You know I have confidence in the American people. If we just drum home the fact that the country is off-course, that middle class families are struggling, your wages and income have gone down under George Bush. Under Democrats, they went up. Unemployment has gone up. Unemployment was down under Bill Clinton. If we just keep on being clear about how we are going to rebuild this economy, then I think we’re gonna end up winning this campaign.”
REPUBLICANS UPSET WITH OPRAH
Republicans are highly upset that media mogul Oprah Winfrey reportedly is not rushing to embrace the first woman on a Republican presidential ticket, Sarah Palin.
The Drudge Report claimed Oprah’s staff was divided over having Palin on the show and that Oprah refused due to her support of Obama. Oprah then issued the following statement: “The item in today’s Drudge Report is categorically untrue. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over.”
Sen. Barack Obama has been on Oprah twice — in January 2005 and in October 2006 — before he announced his candidacy.

So what if Obama religion is muslim, I don’t hear whities complaining about jewish faith, christian faith, catholic faith, orthodox faith, so what is the problem with someone being muslim? is it to black? As for Palin she needs to sit her country hick azz down, have that baby at a convention with no socks or shoes on, just what a trashy white person would do. She can’t say anything about anyone with a child that have down syndrome and a teenage pregnant daughter, plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Compare her family picture to that of Obama’s family picture. Obama’s speaks class, class, class in volumes. Some folks are so dayum slow, isn’t Obama half white, his sister is hawaiian/white, he’s not for just blacks, he’s for all americans and some people need to let go of their prejudice attitudes and realize that.

They can’t get mad with Oprah cause she doesn’t want Sarah Palin on the show. That is “HER” show and they know she supports Barack. The Republicans just want to use that against Barack by wanting to go on a show where they know someone clears supports Obama.
I don’t blame Oprah.
GO OBAMA…Stick with the issues of this country and you’ll do fine!!

I, like Obama hope and pray that the American people are smart enough to see though allof the negative campaigning - and outright lying - that the Republican campaign is putting forth. I don’t believe that Obama has to get down in the muck with them to win this campaign.
Basically the Republicans are saying, “the people are too stupid to do their homework. If we keep telling these lies long enough, they’ll believe them.”
I encourage everyone 18 and older to REGISTER TO VOTE - the deadline is October 6th! I personally can’t afford another four years of the Bush administration, so I need y’all to HELP ME!

George Stephanopoulos is a political hired gun for hire. He travels around the world when he broadcast duties dont preclude helping to shape and subltely turn the tide on national elections. He worked on the both Clinto campaigns and he is an utter ass.
He approach to dealing w/ Obama remains the same - insinuate fear and mistrust. He wants White people to second guess Obama. I don’t know if the Clintons are behind it or he just plain hates Black people. But I don’t see the point in giving this guy an interview or allowing him to host a debate. It just can’t go right with him @ the wheel.

With me knowing how to photoshop and edit things in videos, it’s so crazy yet funny how they sliced out that one little piece from everything he said just to use it as part of their campaign. I agree with an earlier poster who said how could you claim to be catholic, jewish, orthodox, or even an atheist, but if you say muslim everyone runs in hides or automatically assume that you are a terrorist. That’s just America’s ignorance and shows how TV has been on of the biggest things to make Americans more dumb.
Who are they polling for these things because I still haven’t been polled yet and I actually live in a commonwealth state.
Obama is certainly right and I think “sigh” said it as well about how the republicans know how to stir up things and know how to win an election. Sarah Palin was hired to get the women who were still upset about Hillary Clinton, as well as, put some shade over McCain because she was a mayor and governor where McCain was equal to Obama and Biden because he was only a senator and people questioned his experience as well. The republicans told Bush not to attend the convention to avoid bush mccain comparisons. On top of that, suddenly Bush is pulling out troops from Iraq, gas prices are going down slowly to be in good standing for the elections, and McCain now suddenly talks of change and even talks bad about his own republican party to swing voters. Talk about deceitful tactics.
It’s Oprah’s show and people have looking for reasons to take this woman down for years because she can hang with the rich white people. Obama was on Oprah before he even chose to run and Oprah never involved her show to publicize him. Get off her back. Sarah Palin is afraid to answer questions anyway which is why she hasn’t been on any show. She is clearly a puppet for the republicans. Did anyone ask why the other woman didn’t want the VP seat for the republicans?

This is quite disgusting by the right wing media and their “henchmen”. I am a Muslim-American and what am I supposed to think? How am I supposed to vote? McCain and his clan are attacking Obama for being a Muslim and Obama has repeatedly denied it, but they all make it seem like it’s the plague. They are suggesting that to be Muslim is wrong, evil, worthless, or who knows what else. What they fail to realize is that Judaism, Christianity and Islam are very closely tied. They are the only monothestic religions, they believe in the same God, they believe in the same messengers of God (i.e. Moses, Abraham, Noah, Adam, etc), and we all share the same morals and teachings. It’s those people who are afraid to accept this, that create hate and spread rumors and lies about religion. Religion is supposed to bring people together, not seperate them. So, for me this is just a sad time in America. So, as I asked before … if McCain doesn’t want me and Obama doesn’t make more of an effort to let people know that there is nothing wrong with being a Muslim … who is my canidate? who is going to fight for me?

I don’t know anyone who has been polled, either, including myself.
What we’re seeing with the GOP smear campainging is exactly what McCain said he wouldn’t allow and it’s how they won in 2004. The sad thing is people are going to let that “is he or is he not a Muslim” thing decide their vote. It shouldn’t matter if he is a Muslim or not. Muslim does not = terrorist!

I cant wait til Obama Gets in Office. Me Personally, I dont see whats so wrong with what religion your are. Obama says that he is a Christian, but so What if he was or is a Muslim. There is absolutley nothing wrong with it. I have a lot of People in my family that Practice the Muslim Faith and i must say it is a Beautiful Religion. When people hear the World Muslim or Islam they automatically think Terrorist!!!!! and McCain and Bush wants the world to think like that!!! This is not the case. Yes it were some ARAB Muslim’s that caused the Disaster of 911 but thoses were Muslims were from the East. I’m am so tired of this. It’s like when you say your a Muslim they assume that your bad or Terrorist……I’m African American and i have no problem with this Religion, I jus think that we as a People need to come together as one because without Unity we wont have anything!!!!

Not supporting Obama doesn’t make you a racist, but some of the reasons behind it does. How do you feel Obama divided the Demo party? as i recall the “Clintons” did most of the damage with her smear campaign against Obama and he never retaliated. Don’t get it twisted they need Obama to get back in good graces if they ever want to continue a career in politics.
Most of those white folks are not supporting Obama because of the fear of a black man and i don’t care how you spin it, its racist. Most are looking for any small reason to turn against him, they are taking it so far that a song from a rapper with no affiliation with Obama can be used against him. The Rep. party are now stealing his ideas and white america is falling for it?????????

Why do they want her to go on Oprah. There are plenty of other shows out their that she could go on why Oprah. The answer is because she endorsed Obama that is why. They are not slick and I don’t think they want to get down with Oprah like that. Why not have her on the view. They know exactly what they are trying to do, but, Oprah is not having it. They will stop underestimating people that look like Obama, Oprah, and myslef. We are not stupid and it’s too bad they can’t see that. Oh by the way they at an even tie now. Why do you think celebrities should keep their opinions to themselves? We have to remember that eventhough these are “celebrities” they are the same as us which is mere humans. Some contain a certain financial status some don’t. Celebrities is a job label just like doctors, architects, etc. I actually think celebrities expressing their opinions and showing that they will vote has helped many teenagers and early twenties people wake up and decide to vote. Now I’m not giving them all or even the majority credit, but you must admit that celebrities have influences on certain age groups.
Everone who doesn’t vote for Obama is considered racist, but many of them are and they’ve even interviewed people that said they didn’t want a black president. They said they were hardcore democrats and said they will not vote for Obama because he has a “muslim like” name whatever that means and there are people that flat out say they don’t want a black president. Check out some youtube videos, there’s many of them on there.
Obama don’t just need the Clintons, he needs all democrats and even independents that support his cause to help him. The republicans that are supporting mccain (some of them are not), are running a very dirty campaign and if people that are in middle class and below want to survive we have to all come together because McCain is not worried about us and none of his policies help us. It will actually destroy middle class and push them down into the lower class so you would either be rich or poor…no in between.Last time I checked one of your posts you said you were part of a middle class working family. Unless your family hits the lotto, if McCain wins your family will be considered poor.

Sigh,
I respect your opinion and if you don’t like Obama then atleast have a reason to besides “he’s sneeky” with no proof cause it sounds a bit childish to me. I have been watching all the debates since it first started. I have rea literatures from both parties and both Hillary and Barack even in the primaries to make decisions. The only time the race card was played is by bloggers you may have come across and I agree with you that race should not be an issue. The time race was brought out in the open during the presidential race first started with the Jeremiah Wright situation, then Bill Clinton’s quote, Tavis Smiley’s lash and then Jesse Jackson’s behind the scenes talk. Each of these instances really have nothing to do with Obama, because like I said those people are human and Obama has no control over their mouths. In no debate did Obama place the race card. It wasn’t until the very end of the primaries where the media was fluctuating viewers with race issues. I think you are mixing up bloggers and media (which you can’t always take word for word) with the Obama’s. When has Obama ever called the Clintons prejudice. What hate mail did they send out because I have about three different email boxes and I am setup to receive Obama things in them and have never seen a bit of hate mail. All of them have been about his policies, his anouncement, and him telling us to make sure people are reigistered in our neighborhoods. I don’t have sympathy for Obama cause he surely don’t need it. The only people that are dividing the party is you and those you prefer to not do their research on policies, but rather believe everything they see on tv.
Obama is not the reason democrats are seperated. Democrats themselves are seperated because some are upset that their candidate didn’t win in the primaries though both candidates had the same exact policies, just different ways of carrying them out. Which tactics do you hate him for. Speak for yourself instead of saying most because I doubt many are thinking like you. It’s not only black people that hate Hillary so cut the crap with putting that blame on us. There are people in general who dislike or “hate” as you say because she flat out lied in about three different speeches of being under fire in Bosnia. In fact citizens of Bosnia were dissappointed with her cause they made great accomodations for her to talk bad about them?

Wow! #16 that is deep. I was actually wondering why Obama won’t just say “I’m not Muslim, but so what if I am?”. Because there are a lot of Muslim American/ Middle Eaterner Immagrants and so on that will place a vote or not based on how they feel where they fit in. Of course they will benefit from a Democrat in office, however, what if they refuse to vote because they feel jaded. I think this message needs to be spread before a huge mistake is made.
Many Americans that are none the wiser and follow main stream media have pre-conceived ideas about muslims and those from middle eastern countries. It’s unfair and prejudice. That’s why the republican try to piant Obama to be associated. I understand that people tend to overly defend thier religious beliefs but I hope Obama realizes that his inability to properly defend his beliefs without perpetuating the negative stereo type associated with middle easterners and Muslim.

They continue to push the capitalist BS that says let the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. They allow big business leave the country, which results in job loss and recession like conditions. If you don’t have money you are left @ss out in this country when republican is in office. They kill social service programming, screw over the economy, advocate for or create war with other countries. The middle class and lower class men and women in this country are the ones end up dying in this country because of republican world domination agendas. Look at history. This country does not do well under republican control. They do whatever is necessary to get in office, even cheat, so they can continue where the last one from the club left off at. Devils Advocate...
Tuesday, September 9, 2008 /
Isn’t it true that when there is an old man and a young woman that the old man becomes younger looking because of the “young” woman standing next to him? Let’s see who else has done this? Oh! Actors! In the movies they always get the younger actress to play beside the aging actor? Maybe that was the plan…to go with a woman b/c she would make McCain “appear” younger looking…b/c everyone knows that people criticized McCain for being (72 yrs. OLD) so OLD! Gov. Tim Pawlenty should have been McCain’s running mate…but there was a problem with that one….he is a young man!
But enough of playing the Devils Advocate…Obama/Biden for Change WE ALL NEED & should WANT!

That’s right Oprah don’t give that woman Palin any shine on your show. You made the right decision when you said you would love to have her on show after the election was over.

OBAMA IS A HUMAN BEING AND LIKE ALL HUMAN BEINGS SOMETIMES HE JUMBLES HIS WORDS. HE JUMBLED HIS WORDS HERE. SO WHAT!! DO WE EXPECT HIM TO SPEAK PERFECTLY ALL THE TIME, HE IS A HUMAN BEING FOR GOODNESS SAKES!!
OBAMA IS A CHRISTIAN, HE HAS BEEN WORSHIPPING JESUS CHRIST AT A CHRISTIAN CHURCH FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS.
IT IS TRULY SAD THAT OBAMA’S WHOLE LIFE IS BEING QUESTIONED SIMPLY BECAUSE HE HAS THE NAME HE DOES! AND WE ALL KNOW THAT THIS IS WHY IDIOT PEOPLE ARE QUESTIONING OBAMA ABOUT HIS FAITH. IF OBAMA’S NAME WAS TOM SMITH, WE ALL KNOW THAT NO ONE WOULD BE QUESTIONING HIS FAITH!! (OBAMA who was given his name at birth by his parents, had no choice in what he was called. For people to be using a name Obama got at birth to discriminate against him is disgraceful ! )
THE FACT IS OBAMA HAS SAID HE IS A CHRISTIAN OVER, AND OVER, AND OVER, OBAMA HAS PRAISE JESUS CHRIST PRIVATELY, AND PUBLICLY FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS, YET PEOPLE STILL HAVE THE NERVE TO BE QUESTIONING HIS CHRISTIAN FAITH, AND HIS BELIEF IN JESUS CHRIST !!

I think Oprah made this clear when she didn’t invite 50 cent on her show…..
“I DECIDE WHO SITS ON MY DAMN COUCH”
Why does everyone think they need to be her booking agent? She doesn’t owe her platform to anyone!
Go on Oprah. I got your back!

I just like everybody else wants to know how the hell do you get polled. Where do you have to go. I dont understand.
Secondly, I must say I ‘ve never hated white women, but I swear if John McCain makes it into office because of these dumb b*tches, my ass is set sailing to another got damn country and will live there until America(ns) get some damn sense and a clue. White women see one of their own(Palin) and immediately flocked to them. Even if the b*tch doesnt believe in women’s rights, has one slut of a daughter, kills animals, and mishandles money and projects.
Third, I hate when hear people defending this country as if it was the greatest. People would vote against you based of your name, race or religion. Ugh, it truly is disgusting. This country could never change people who dont need to reproduce, reproduce. All of their vile hate goes right into the hearts of their once innocent offsprings.
Fourth, I will never respect Oprah again if she has Palin on her show. Palin is a disgrace to women.

AS A LARGE NUMBER OF INTELLIGENT MATURE BLACK CITIZENS HAVE KNOWN ALL ALONG, BARACK’S CANDIDACY HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONLY A PLOY TO ELIMINATE THE STRONGEST DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE, AND TO INSURE A REPUBLICAN VICTORY WHICH WILL CONTINUE THE FAST DECLINE OF BLACK AMERICANS IN THIS COUNTRY.
THE IGNORANT OPRAH WINFREY, WHO COLLABORATES WITH THE BIGGEST REPUBLICAN AZZ IN HISTORY AND CONSIDER HIS WIFE HER FRIEND (ARNOLD SCHWARZNEGGER), PROBABLY KNEW ALL ALONG THAT BARACK HAD NO CHANCE OF WINNING, AND WAS HELPING RASCIST ALL ALONG

I agree these polls are scewed it’s like the agenda is to clearly state to the American people that John Mc Cain is ahead. I have not been polled either , I guess the polls only take place in certain areas !!
