POLITICS: SARAH PALIN’S RNC SPEECH

Thursday, September 4, 2008

On Wednesday, Sarah Palin announced she will be honored to accept the nomination for Vice President of the United States to a roaring crowd.

Presidential candidate John McCain, 72, is the first Republican to share the ticket with a woman and only the second presidential candidate from a major party to do so.

With all the recent media attention surrounding her, Palin told the RNC she is not going to Washington to seek the approval of the media but rather to “serve the people of this country”.

Sarah Palin did an excellent job of presenting herself–she dragged her whole family and the prego daughter’s boyfriend(who loooked uncomfortable as hell) on stage for photo op. She did NOT discuss the ISSUES!! She made little attacks toward Obama but once again the Republicans ARE NOT Discussing what’s important!

Pitbull with lipstick? What an INSULT to pitbulls!

Palin definatley rubbed me the wrong way last night.. I am neither democrat nor repbulican. but after seeing the anger and bitterness in republicans last night that has sealed my vote for the democrats…

Why was she putting down community organizers?

Palin even said it herself that she has not been in washington politics for very long.. well for someone who has not been in washington she sure was spitting out a lot of political bull from a speech she didn’t even write…

Republicans praise her.. well what else are they gonna do? But I can tell you that the great feeling they were getting in the convention was not the same great feeling many were feeling outside…

Dont EVEN get me started on Rudy G.

OBAMA/BIDEN

It’s ashame that she spent so much time trying to defame Obama that she never talked about what she has done or what she plans to do. If she wants to talk about Obama not writing reforms, what reforms has she written that were groundbreaking or successfully impacted change? She spent SO much time going on and on about Obama that I could not differentiate her from a citizen that is supporting the Republican party or a person that accepted the nominee as Vice President. I am a feminist and this woman does NOTHING but appear as a puppet for the good ole boys from days of yore. And if she had to take the place of the president, that is exactly what she will be…a puppet for the Republican master minds. GET REAL…make sure all of your friends and family register because America cannot continue to be viewed this way by the world.

I had to put that mess on mute last night. I couldn’t take it. Especially Rudy G. That man is such a fake it’s ridiculous. Sarah Palin should be ashamed of herself for dragging her baby and children all over the place for photo ops. It was clear as hell half of them didn’t even want to be there. The pregnant one looked like she was falling asleep.

Something about that convention didn’t seem right, the vibes we too negative.

& If I hear one more thing about Obama not having experience….

I cant understand how people dont see through this hot mess. This election is so frustrating!! I dont understand how a woman who cant even control her out of control daugher gonna run a country. this Republican party is a mess, McCain cheated on his wife and Palin got a drunk daughter who is having a baby. If this was Obama this would not be an issue, they would have attacked his family to no end! The double standards here are so crystal clear. I am so scared if the republican party wins the election this year, there are so many issues that are being overlooked due to the craziness of the two candidates if the republican party, and her daughters boyfriend did look uneasy as hell and he should be, nobody other than a white woman could bring her 16 year daughters baby daddy to the republican convention that she is speaking to to accept her nomination for VP!! this is some serious bullshit.

well yall can say what you wont but she didnt lie about on thing. You people kill me”Dragged her whole family” I guess you hid all the family you consider bad in the closet. First she hiding now she exploting. Make up your mind people. Some say she sound funny, But I rather have some one sound funny telling the truth than sound good lying. Look up everything she said, didnt ly one time and had proof to back up her statements I wish Obama would have stated one thing he did to help the country, hell I’d settle for one thing he did to help Ill. Thats why I can get down with him. He seems like that kid at school who talks about how he can do everything better than the a person after the person already did it. You know “Man I would have”" or Man you Should Have” If he’s the president who’s he going to copy Europe. I hate to say it but Eourpe and Canada( FRee Health Care) are not doing as well as us right now even in our econmy state. China and North Korea are but I doubt the American People want to be like them.

Honestly my gut tells me that the Republicans will NOT win this year… many people will see through that bull and negetivity… when you have nothing productive to say what do you do?? ATTACK ATTACK ATTACK… and you result in name calling and sarcasm.. that is exactly what happend last night… no one had anything productive to say.. I dont care what they say about that woman now.. even if it is sexist… she is definatley at the bottom of my list of unlikeable people and I am a WOMAN.

Call her a bitch for all I care.. I was pissed from that speech last night downgrading working class peoples accomplishments as community organizers… she has the nerve…A hockey mom? Who cares! So what.

The baby’s daddy looked like he didn’t even want to be there…

She dogged Obama, and made me cringe. lol. It was ridiculous. I had to change the channel because it was so frustrating. The only thing she did was talk nonsense on Obama. And Obama did the complete opposite!! I think she should watch her mouth and her actions! She has zero room to talk mess about someone else!! Her pregers daughter’s Myspace pics came out earlier. She’s pictured drinking, and kissing her girlfriends. Palin should home, and take care of her own household before trying to run our country.

It blows my mind that the Republican party should be trying to do everything in its’ power to show the nation they are not the same party of the past eight years. However, McCain’s administrations goes out and gets Bush’s speech writer to develop the nonsense we listened to last night. If you notice, after Palin’s introduction of herself and her family, her speech took on an angry, arrogant, and condescending tone. We have Bush’s speech writer to thank for this, and that portion of the speech was written before the VP pick was even made. Proof that McCain only offers the nation 4 more years of the same.

Looking around the audience at the RNC, it is evident that this party doesn’t represent the US. There are just over 30 African American Republican delegates…a shame. The DNC was a beautiful representation of the melting pot that is America.

Finally, can one Republican please mention the economy? I mean how is that a topic you skip over in this day and age? Maybe they don’t have a favorable solution to share. They just don’t get it!

Question: Was anyone offened by her comment that she was a mayor that is a community activist, except that mayors has responsiblities as offensive. Meaning that any one who service as the community activist unless ytou are mayor you dont have any responsibities. That was such bs… Community Activist dont get paid most of the time, and they are responsible for a group of people that didnt elect or ask them to be there but still needed them. That mess she spoke on last night did nothing for me to swing her way. She spoke nothing on the issues and only attacked the Dem. And why is it ok for her not to have experience , but it is a crime that Obama is soo “inexperienced”Double standards i guess. Nothing she said last night would make me vote for her…

You hate that she dragged her family all over the place? Huh? Really?! Were these same individuals upset about Obama bringing his daughters on stage when he was accepting the nomination? I mean seriously folks, if you were for Obama all along, then there would be nothing that Palin or McCain could say that would change your mind. All this, “Why didn’t she do this?” or “Why didn’t they do that?” is absurd.

Her specch was typical. I wasn’t uplifted nor offended, by anything she said.

I think come election day, 1 of 2 things will happen. We’ll either have the largest voter turn out in history or millions of voters will stay home. Just my opinion

Lets not forget that Obama did Cocain in College. The years he was supossed to be learning about things like the law. Isn’t Cocain illegal. I bet all his pushers are going to vote for him. Obama Mamma was just like Palins daugther, and did the same thing. Yes abortion was legal than. No one is throwing this in Obama’s face we are letting him be his own man.

@ Angel

I’m sorry but if my mom was give a speech do at the Wal Mart and I had 10 and was on welfare I would still be there to support her. What you dont understand is family is the most important thing regardless of what is going on. I REAL person of the people understands that.

@ J.LI

Example, They Congress wanted ( this includes your boy Obama) wanted to take Millions of tax dollars and build a brigde in .Alaska. Now even thought they did need this bridge it would have supplied jobs more likely to Alaskians only. She said hell no to this was of money. AND found a way to comp most of the jobs in another project. One of her many fights in Congress.

TO Alll

I did not hear one thing from any Dem in all their speeches that said anything about what they intend to do for soldiers. End the war cut funding RIGHT. The war will dod what it do cutting funding will cut funding to soldiers You cant do more with less in war. It’s sad that people think that the Obama will stop the war. Yea he will cut the budget but it will be things like instead of 365 bullets per soldier more like 132 a soldier. Reused equipemt to include boots and Clothing. Oh yea he’ll cut back. And what about the cut back of Personnel. The first to go will be the older more experiance soldiers. Leaving the younger fresh picks from High schools just Like in the rest of the jods in this nation. How do I know this. Take a look at the Millitary after Bill Clintons First Year.

Enough with the Old America Bullying tactics already I am SO OVER THAT!!!

She’s got jokes for days…. Anything else? Her speech had no substance whatsoever.

Sarah Palin did nothing but lie - to see a summary of her lies visit cbsnews.com and check out the story ‘Factchecking Palin’. OR go to samefacts.com - Very little validity to anything she said not only about Obama, but herself and McCain also. DO YOUR RESEARCH PEOPLE!

People like to compare her to Obama and say that she’s just as inspiring and people can relate to her just as easily….. If your inspired by false claims, political games and old America at it’s best - then I am sure you were inspired last night.

I want to feel as though the candidates are real and I can relate - but not THAT much. You still need to be an exceptional individual capable of handling such a daunting task.

This former pageant Queen doesn’t do it for me, sorry. I listened with an open mind and was genuinely interested in what she would have to say. I was terribly disappointed and quite turned off by the end of her speech.

Bush, McCain and Palin leave me feeling embarrassed to be an American and completely disconnected.

Obama leaves my head held high, my spirit filled with hope and my pride for my country reignited. Not based on his charm or skin color - but his attention to the issues affecting ME, tact in dealing with major issues like the War and his audacity to have aggressive, however, obtainable goals for a better America.

Right now, I’m sitting at work with the misfourtune of listening to the ol’ fogies talk about how well versed and articulate Palin’s speech was. *sigh* Palin’s speech was nothing more than rhetoric. She simply gave the Republicans what they wanted to hear — B.S. Not once did she talk about the real issues, and it was so disappointing. This woman has no qualifications, no substance.

And don’t get me started on Rudy G. Why does he feel that just because he was mayor during the 9/11 attacks, it qualifies him as somebody important? Boy, stop!

Governor Palin’s speech was good. I didn’t watch the convention last night but was able to watch her speak this morning online. I believe that she is a beautiful person with a beautiful family and is unfairly judge regarding the pregnancy of her daughter. I feel that parents can preach until they are blue in the face but kids ultimately have the choice to do what they want to do and sometimes that choice can come back and bite them in the booty.
Although the speech was good, I feel that she did not discuss any of the important issues but instead attacked Senator Obama and that is not what I wanted to hear. I guess that she wanted to take the attention away from the fact that she was not properly vetted. The McCain camp definitely dropped the ball on that one. Her daughter being pregnant should not be the main issue in the media but unfortunately it is. I understand the impact that it has with Governor Palin not wanting sex education in schools but still, it is still not my main concern. My main concern is the fact that she is under investigation for abusing her power in her state. I just feel that the McCain camp really did not know about the pregnancy or the investigation which looks bad on them and they lied stating that they knew about it. This is the judgment of someone wanting my vote for the presidency?

Also, they preach about experience, experience, experience which she doesn’t have much of. Therefore, they can stop with the criticism of Senator Obama’s lack of experience. I was listening to the Russ Parr morning show (as I do every morning on my way to work) and he hit the nail on the head. He basically said that President Bush had political experience prior to being the President and look where experience has gotten us.

I don’t agree with everything that Obama stands for however, my views match with his on a larger scale than my views matching with McCain and it is my duty to vote. Unfortunately, Senator McCain is old, a 4 time cancer survivor and has had a stroke. I hope that nothing happens to him because I don’t wish anything like that on anyone but we have to be realistic. If something happens to him while in office, do you feel that Sarah Palin can lead this country? She just got a passport to travel overseas in July. A response regarding her foreign policy experience is that she lives in Alaska and that is close to Russia.

Come on, let’s be real.

Bring on the debates

Offended and disgusted!!!!!!

Last night it was clear as ever that the Republicans are a one sided party. They turn their nose up at anyone that is not rich or share the values they have. As they laughed at the work of community organizers; those who do the work they should be out doing in our communities, I realized that they don’t know the struggles of people like me!!! How dare you laugh at the work of people like Obama and Martin Luther King!!!! How Dare You!!!!!

Last week at the democratic convention I felt so proud to be apart of a movement that was about the people of all walks of the country. Uplifting and not divisive!!! Last night I thought I would see that from Sarah Palin regardless of her party and to my disappointment she was everything but uplifting! I always thought your strength show when you stand on your record. Strength is not shown by you trying to tear others and that’s all she did last night. Funny how there was nothing about making the economy better!

Karen

Thursday, September 4, 2008 /

I heard Guiliani and Palin and several other Republicans insult Barack’s expreience as a community organizer and dismiss it as a fluff job. What they don’t understand is that its not politicians who change many things in this world, which is why people don’t trust them. We know they are all campaigning for a job and connections. Community organizers work outside of the system and inspire other individuals tochange their own lives. That’s what made people like Dr. King so important. He wasn’t campaigning for a job and could therefore say things and do things that politicians never could. Barack’s experience as a community organizer speaks even more to the idea that he still has faith in the common man and his ability to change the world around him.

Sarah Palin also made a reference to Barack “rolling back the seas and healing the world”. Barack, unlike them, is not arrogant enough to think that he can do everything himself. The point is for him to use his position to change what HE can, and to encourage and inspire the rest of us to be the best of who we are and change our own families and communities.

Its sad that they don’t get it. Or maybe they do understand, and they know that an educated, re-inspired public means that their reign of unquestioned control is over. I’m sick of the way things are and I’m sick of them.

Sarah Palin, with her B.A. in Journalism is going to get smashed going against Joe Biden and I can’t wait until the debates!

I would like to say that first that baby isn’t her baby it’s her grandbaby. That is the baby that her oldest daughter had at a young age. With the speech, no I won’t even say speech. How is her bio going to help us in our time of need? I don’t think the Republican Party has the big picture in there heads. There are more homeless people in the United States then probably anywhere, more pregnant teens which means more misguided kids on the streets killing innocent bystanders. Someone made a statement that what does her daughters because both of them were teen mothers have to do with her being Vice President. I would have to say a lot because that is one of the big issues that we face in America. How can you help control one of the world’s biggest problems and you can’t even control what is going on in your own house? I just think people need to stop thinking about what political side your on and think about whats good for country and the people in it.

Lets be clear I do not condone that fact the 17 year olds are out have sex. But the fact that her mother and grand mother said” they were proud of how she did it” threw me back, along with the statements made implying that having a baby at a young age with no husband is generational in their family. What is the purpose of have a Paris Bennet Story? And No I dont think that marrige is the answer to everything nor do I think that everybody that gets preganat should have a baby, but to glorify that is plain bad parenting. And if thats not what they ment they need to chose their words more carfully. Because the child is a blessing but the act is still a sin. Something we need to understand so we dont fall into the same issues again.

I’m not judging her daughter for being pregnant, but why did they keep cheering everytime they showed her and her boyfriend? I thought they were the “social conservative folks”!! The last time I checked, teenage pregnancy wasn’t something we applauded.

And further on Barack working as a community organizer, he rejected the the big firm’s job offers to work for the community. He coul dhave been like Mitt Romney and DIck Cheney and chose the self-serving path (as most of us would) and gone for the money, but he didn’t. I agree with him on most of his opinions, I respect him very much and trust his intellect enough to choose great advisors to fill the holes his experience (or inexperience) has left behind. That’s why for him.

Honestly I feel that McCain has an ulterior motive behind choosing Palin as his VP. I cant quite place my finger on it but it will come out very soon. Palin has issues… when being in the midst of 3 or 4 scandals at one time. at least one of them is true. I hate the way she is being perceived as “one of us” just because she has a pregnant teen in her household, she’s a “devout” Christian and her son is going to Iraq… ugh! What people need to realize is, is that she’s running for VP not the President. Sure they work together but at the end of the day this is McCain’s battle, not Palin’s.. Before selecting her McCain’s campaign was boring and lacked any kind of anything, but since she’s come aboard and spiced things up people are being swayed in the Republican Party’s direction? What does that say about Americans? That as long as we are entertained the issues dont matter? The mudslinging and underage unwed marriage makes for good tv, but are we really ready for 4 more years of Bush???

Clearly you have not been paying attention to closely….Obama WRITES ALL HIS SPEECHES. He goes to a hotel without his campaign staff and writes without being disrupted. Then he brings back the speech and he & his camp fine tune it. Sarah Palin did not write her speech at all, she was given the words to deliever. So we will see how she holds up during the debates and on the campaign trail.

@JA

Do not bring up Obama’s drug use unless you wanna bring up McCain’s wife’s drug abuse….which landed her in rehab. He was upfront about his drug use unlike Bush and other in government on both sides. So your agreement is not valid & doesn’t hold up.

The one thing that really struck me the wrong way last night was how they used HOPE as a negative. While I am not naive to believe that if Obama or anyone for that matter will be able to turn the country drastically in the next 4 years, Obama gives me HOPE that change can come while McCain leaves me feeling like it will be 4 more years of the same. I have HOPE that what I do can make a difference & HOPE that there can be a better tomorrow. So if HOPE is a negative then I guess I am too.

Lastly, the last few days everyone has been treading lightly with Palin, but last night she came out swinging & now the kid gloves are off. Whoever wrote that speech did more damage than good. If you wanna be a pitbull with lipstick then you should get treated like a pitbull with lipstick….the VP debate will probably be the most interesting of debates I have seen in a long time & although she DELIVERED a good speech, she has yet to prove herself with on the spot tough questions. Its funny how when OBAMA gives a good speech, it is written off as a bunch of rhetoric but now that PALIN gave a good speech it is supposed to speak volumes of her experience and readiness.

P.S. What is so wrong with a community organizer??? As Americans we never even feel the changes that are being made up top. By the time anything reaches us, all we eel are are high as gas prices and our families being shipped over to Iraq and being killed… So I feel that anyone that has had experience with us “little people” is qualified to run this country that essentially could give a damn about the working class…. also the Dems have more than enough people on their side that could pick up where Obama is”inexperienced”….

P.S. I wonder if Fox Network is Referring to Bristol Palin as “Baby Mama” as they did the married Michelle Obama…. smh

Well she opened a can of worms. Did she say anything about her qualifications or what she’s done or the fact that she agreed with Obamas Alaska pipeline plan, the same one she dogged last night? McCain picked her as an attack dog, so now she need to get ready to play with the other ones. i can’t wait for the debates, biden will is going to chew her ass up. Good grief, that speech was embarrasing and I’m not even voting Republican!

It is the grandma and the grandpapa that are the back bone of the country just as anyone raised by on. And the Dems first compared her to Obama Not the Reps. Look it up look it up. “Heart beat away”lol And she has many of time, give example of her being a better pick than Biden for anything, every reason Obama gave as to why Biden wasn’t fit to be President is all the reason she needs. Remenber just four months ago you all were againts Biden too so you know his faults. Now it there were no Obama and There were no McCain and you wanted Change. Would you vote for the the woman who has a proven record of fighting for the intrest of her people in congress, or the man who is almost the oldest senater in congress and has sat through what you all say is the worst adminstration in American History( I beg to differ) and lets not forget all things that Biden is saying bout McCain must be very recent since in the 2004 election he tried to get McCain to be Kerry’s VP. I thought Palin was likeable in a sense. I enjoyed her humor, I thought the talk of her husband was really sweet and the fact that her children were there and supporting her was great and wonderful. I love to see family support as I come from a strong family….. HOWEVER

Even though the humor WAS funny… I didnt agree with it or the way she bashed the Dems. I thought she was insensitive to alot of people… It was almost as if supporters of the Left wing were dissed as well as the representatives.. Like they dont know what they’re voting for. Also, I need more info on her stance on alot of issues. You see, Politicians (ALL OF THEM) tend to change their mind on different issues… as do “normal people”. And I dont think there is anything wrong with believing in one thing one year, and another the next… under the conditions that it isnt a MAJOR issue such as ethical issues. But as far as thinking the war is ok one year… and seeing how it goes and then thinking maybe it isn’t… I think thats more than ok because we do have to experience things and learn if issues should stick or not.

N E way, I need to hear a firm stance on her issues and hear more about what direction she wants to move the country in before I would be fooled by her ever clever lines…. Unless she can convince me otherwise….

@ Jay

I usually just come into this site and look @ all the post but this time I had to said something….. Since u wanted to talk about what Obama has done, let me point out some things that your “girl” Palin has done!

1. Palin admits to smoking marijuana as a youth in Alaska, though she says she did not enjoy it!!!
2.Her husband also has a DUI on his record.
3. According to CNN 95% of what was said by her @ the RNC were false!
Finally her daughter was caught on tape slapping and spitting on the baby..
Her speech was very very very tasteless and unprofessional, but to each it’s own.. if that’s what your looking for then by all mean vote for who u believe in! But please post the whole truth and DON’T point the finger to blame when it will surely come back to your ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS if u want u can check the facts of everything I stated! Do YOUR research!!!!!!!!

You are sooo right. I didn’t think it was appropriate to have her daughter’s boyfriend a.k.a. baby daddy there he’s not part of the family YET and there is no ring on either finger so WHY WAS HE THERE AGAIN. I’m so confuse I too thought Republicans were conservative I guess that’s OUT huh.

I didn’t feel the connection with her speech in any form shape or sound it was just plain and I felt cheated to even looking at it. Maybe we will get to know her when Biden and her do a debate cause that was pure CRAP.

And please don’t get me started on Peanut head Rudy UGHHHHH!

Am I the only one that is scared of what this Palin chick will do in the White House? I was really hoping McCain would choose Liberman, because Barack can sound a bit too socialist to me. But with this Palin pick, I’m not upset, I’m scared. When someone says that, and I quote, “Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God,” she said. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan.” That is about the Iraq war. Too many wars have been waged with religion as the ultimate reason. I don’t trust her, and her view is too narrow. She scares me…

I’m sorry to break it to you but Obama does not in fact write his own speeches. It even sad that you would think that. It would be great if he did but he doesn’t. Thats like saying Bush writes his own speeches. Even the silly one are written by some one else.

The referance is made to the fact that people say she is unfit to be VP because of her daugther, one would also have to say Obama as a product would also be unfit.
Second McCain wife isn’t running for anything. Just like Obama mamma and Palins daugther. So anything going on with them has nothing to do with the Quailty of the person .

I See Through All The Glitz and Glam

Thursday, September 4, 2008 /

Karen,
I couldn’t have said things better than you did. The bashing was certainly ridiculous. It’s funny how Guiliani got up there talking all the junk. Let’s remind ourselves about this man: This is the same man who cheated on his second wife with a younger mistress. He even brought his mistress out in public light during his speeches as if his wife didn’t even exist. Then on national tv he anounced that he and his wife were getting a divorce, the same divorce his wife didn’t even know about until she saw the news that day. Then he went out to marry his mistress. On top of that this man was the most hated Mayor in NYC. People try to give him all this credit for 911 when he did nothing but stand at ground zero. The real credit should go to those firefighters, police officers, hospital staff, and other civilians who risked their lives and the City of New York coming together as a whole.

Sarah Palin spoke of no type of issues. All she did was bash Obama her whole speech. She also put down community leaders and workers like we are nothin. If you are middle class in her book then you are poor cause you don’t do enough. There are plenty of working class people that do a great job at what they do and are force to pay more taxes because the rich don’t pay theirs or pay a small percentage. I don’t care to bother with this lady’s family. The more important issues is that she’s under investigation for abuse of power. McCain really chose her because her husband and sister are in the oil industry. See how these republicans always team up around oil. Isn’t it ironic that they care nothing for the economy, think global warming is bs, and want to do offshore drilling. It is all about money and power with them. Bush and Cheyney did the same exact thing. They both have money invested in oil and have continued to steal from other countries ie: Darfur, Iraq, etc. Money and Power people, that’s all the McCain/Palin care about. I can’t wait for the debates!

I think Governor Palin is a good speaker, and she said exactly what the Republicans wanted to hear last night. I just do not believe that if she and John McCain were to take office much would change. I heard her speaking about the nuclear power plants and coal plants, and the jobs, but they (GOP) has had 8 years and they didn’t do dick with it. So I cannot fathom voting for 4 more years of the same.

I think the focus needs to be put back on the ISSUES and off of the people. Am I going to receive social security when I get to 65 or 70 or whatever age they move it to? Will there be anything left? Will healthcare only go to those who can afford it still? Will we still be in a war in 4 more years? I want change. Real change Right now.

JA & Sign, great points! First, I think that all the pundits and commentators know that politicians don’t usually write their own speeches - so it’s totally stupid for them to question hers, especially when they didn’t bat an eye when Barack delivered his speech or Hillary and NEVER question Bill’s. Second, why wouldn’t she parade her family on stage - Michelle & Barack did (couldn’t shut that youngest one up), even had the cameras when they were on vacation in Hawaii - and did a cover for a magazine. Third, why shouldn’t the republicans bash the dem candidates, Hillary got a standing ovation when she bashed McCain and so did Bill. KS Gov Sebilius talked about the fiasco with his 7 homes. Everyone thought their speeches were legendary. Come on, tis the season - it’s politics at it’s worst. But, I feel what comes around, goes around. If the dems had known about Sara before their convention was over, they would had certainly mentioned her in All their speeches. McCain had an ace up his sleeve and caught everyone off guard - the dems are pissed! As far as her daughter’s pregnancy - I do feel that is a personal issue - the girl is probably out of control - unlike Obama’s willingness to do drugs (which is illegal). I didn’t like the “community activist” comment though. I felt that was below the belt - everyone should be involved in their community at some point in their lives. Other than that, the night was typical. She did mention the problems that our country is facing (I didn’t hear any solid solutions), and she made special mention to our troops. Another thing I’m not really impressed with is the fact that they are still mocking Michelle on being a proud american. They all mocked her at one point in their speeches. Finally, I know that this a political game - let’s face it - EVERYONE is playing (Obama & McCain). They both accuse the other of something or another, but we have to be smarter than that. We can’t get caught up in what the pundits are talking about. They give their opinions and we all know the story of opinions - they’re like a$$holes, everybody’s got one. I like to hear substance (sure everyone is talking about the problems) but quite frankly, I haven’t heard a viable solution yet!

I could care less that she’s a mom. She’s a mom that can’t keep up with what her kids are doing. She’s dishonest and an amatuer to say the very least. All she tried to do was blow smoke up my a$$ and it didn’t work. Barack Obama has NEVER ran a dirty campaign, but the Republicans do nothing, but try to smear mud across this man’s face. She tries to use the fact that she has an unwed pregnant teenager and a new born with down syndrome to say that she’s like the rest of us and I don’t buy it. You don’t want the media discussing your kids in a negative light, so dam sure don’t bring them up so you can gain sympathy from people. Sarah Palin, you’re nothing, but a snake in the grass that’s going to sneak up and bite all of us in the you know what in the unfortunate event that you and the old man get elected. You can’t make it seem like you’re every woman in one sense and turn around and not allow a woman who’s been raped to get an abortion. It’s not your choice it’s hers. For the record, I don’t agree in people using abortion as birth control, but it should be a woman’s decision to do what she needs to do with her own body. If abortions are outlawed there will be staggering numbers of women and teenage girls falling ill to an illegal abortion at the hands of someone who’s not trained. What will you do then? I’m sure haven’t the slightest. Just because you’re the governor of Alaska (where there are hardly any minorities) doesn’t mean you have what it takes to run a country full of diverse ethnicities. You don’t understand REAL poverty. Go back to the PTA….please and thank you

@JA

Bush used cocaine for years but that was off limits but now that Obama did and admitted to it people want to use it as fair game…yes Cindy McCain isn’t running for President but you can’t open Pandora’s box on one candidate without opening it for the other. Trust and believe the reason they haven’t bought it up is because if McCain criticizes Obama for drug use he is going to have to say the same for his wife. That is why it is not and won’t be bought up by their campaign. Shall we dive into McCain’s infidelity? Or is that off limits. Shall we talk about how McCain stole a story about his time as a POW from another soldier and claimed it as his own in his book or is that off limits? Pick and choose your battles….

We all have differing opinions but between the two of you I have yet to hear a valid and plausible reason as to why McCain/Palin is better than Obama/Biden. I didnot hear one word in Palin’s speech that moved me to tears like I did in Obama’s. I didn’t hear one thing in her speech that made me feel like there will be a better tomorrow under their ticket. I didn’t hear anything but sarcasm & negativity. What will they do to bring the country together. I don’t expect much from McCain’s speech but more of the same.

I cannot comment on the comments because nothing anyone writes in here is going to change a vote, sorry, I know we all think we are prolific writers and thinkers but people like Ja and Sigh are unfortunately going to do what they think its best for them despite what McCain’s voting resultshave been for the last eight years. Unlike most I actually read and do more then listen to talk radio. Look at the issues; what is actually important to you.

Some people will vote on hate alone others will look at the issues.

I am a Democrat but I have and will continue to vote for the person who I believe will do the best for the people of this country and the world. I do not care about what side you sit on. I am a liberal and a conservative depending on the issue. For example, I voted for a Republican to run my state because the Democrat who was running at the time did more to hurt the city he ran as mayor then help it. But I digress because I think at the end of the day America will be heading either in the right or wrong Direction come Nov 3 (election results if we do not have a 2000 incident).

I do not think Palin is qualified and last night did not give me any more confidence that this was not just an affirmative action ploy that continues to assume that most women will vote based on gender based ties instead of what they consider to be important to them and their families.

I am offended as a woman that more consideration was not given to other women within the party who have more to offer then a short lived career in politics. I actually didn’t dislike McCain until he showed me that he thinks women and minorities will act as white men and vote on gender and race lines alone. We are smarter then that just because we share the same gender or race means nothing, as we have learned time and time again.

I prayer that we each spend more then an hour on CNN & Talk radio and actually research the candidates and their positions and plans for this country.

Barack’s not good under pressure. That’s my point. He stutters and fubbles over words, doesn’t give any concrete solutions or explanations. Part of the reason he does it, is because he doesn’t know what he’s doing. In fact I’m convinced that he loves the sound of his own voice.

This is why I have more respect for Republicans. They don’t promise a damn thing, and they’re not afraid to take controversial stances. No matter how idiotic or crazy, they stand by it.

The Democrats on the other hand, talk too much, and do too little. I’m contemplating starting a petition to have that idiot Dean & Pelosi removed.

I also find it both ironic and hypocritical of his supporters to state that Palin needs to give more solutions and talk about the issues. But his supporters didn’t seem to mind it when, Barack was spouting off his “change” rhetoric and not going into details about how he plans to resolve any issues facing our ecnomy. In fact, everytime he was presented w/ questions concerning the ecnomy, the first thing he’d talk about, would be the Bush Administrations failure & the problems they’ve left. No solutions, no plans whatsoever. And everytime I’d ask a supporter what his plans were, they’d tell me to research his website. LOL. Hilarious. But hey everyone wants to B-A-R-A-C-K the V-O-T-E!

More power to ya!

SIGH @79… he lost debates against Hillary??? LOL oh thats right…. Hillary Clinton is the Democratic nominee for president!! ‘..

you contradict yourself … **SEE QUOTE ABOVE**….

Start over *SIGH* …seems like you are trying to be controversial…go away
______________________________________________________

What are you talking about? It’s a fact he lost all debates to Hillary. His last performance was the worst! That’s why his campaign always avoided them, they know he sucks! LOL, honey the word I think you’re looking for is “d” for denial!

The man has some strengths and he has some weaknesses. Let’s call a spade a spade. He lost (the debates)

To All the fake ass house negroes that have found your way to this post somehow.
John McCain:
1-voted against increasing the minimum wage
2-voted against the GI bill
3-voted against Katrina relief
4-voted against Dr.King’s birthday becoming a national holiday (remember Dr.King, the man that is one of the main reasons your sorry asses have a voice).
5-has NO universal health care
6-wants equal taxes for a person making 25 grand as a person making 25 million. Barack wants higher taxes for people making more than 250 which is 5-10%
7-wants to take away a woman’s right to choose
8- is the ultimate Flip Flopper after coming home from POW stint his true color came out when he started cheating on his wife that waited 5 years while he was in captivity. Left that wife for his current chic that has her own issues.

Hey, everybody makes mistakes but nobody wants a priest that’s a former pedophile, nobody wants a pastor that cheated on his wife and married the church treasurer and NOBODY WANTS A VICE PRESIDENT WHO ACTS LIKE TEEN PREGNANCY IS A BEAUTIFUL THING. We know it happens but are we proud of it? I think not. We need a President that is the epitome of COLORBLIND. That will bring us ALL together. That truly loves his family and has come from NOTHING to the main stage. Barack Obama will be a GREAT President because he will be forced to be and he like most people of color will rise to the occasion.

@ ‘Whyme’ - keep giving them hell! : )

To everyone else, lets be sure to take a step back and filter through the distractions. I did not listen to her speech last night. Instead, I listened to the political analyst ‘pundits’ on CNN this morning and watched the soundbites. How funny of John Roberts to praise this as the best speech he has heard in a long time. And he is on TV why? Oh I see, the playing field is not level. Had this Palin women discussed actual issues and the Republican agenda, that would have made more sense. But the audacity of her to downplay Barack’s community experience as not a real ‘responsibility’ is laughable. If you can’t reach the people, how can you lead them?

Don’t get me started on Rudy - why is it that an educated black person is instantly labeled an ‘elitist.’ There is nothing elite about Sen Obama. Or is it that other races just can’t fanthom us being anything but ghetto and ignorant?! Did anyone take the time to scan the audience? I could count the # of minorities on one hand. Thank God Venus and Serena was playing the hell out of the game of tennis last night. Whew!

Lastly, and quite important - to all the women that are STILL upset over the HClinton situation…look instead and what is at stake for all women with McSame/Palin in office. Don’t think for one second that a woman’s right to choose will remain in place. While I do not support abortion as a form of birth control, I firmly believe in your body your choice. And what about the women that become pregnant following a rape?

@Sigh

Clearly you have never worked on a political campaign or watched the preparation that goes into a production like this….I have and let me tell you the speech that she spoke was already written BEFOFE she was even chosen. The full speech that she gave last night was given out to the media BEFORE she delivered it. With all the Republicans have riding on this ticket that would NOT have let her freestyle boo boo. And like I said before there were 3 telepromters at use last night, one on the left, one on the right and one in the front in the event that one isn’t working and then there is the typed one she bought out on stage with her. And like I stated before OBAMA can do the say thing you are claiming PALIN did so what is your point. But I am gonna let you make it since you are so well versed on Telepromters…..LOL

The things we all should know about PALIN besides her ability to deliver a speech written by Bush’s speech writer:

1. She asked “What is it exactly that the VP does every day”
2. She stated ” I haven’t really focused much on the war in Iraq”
3. She was elected governor largely b/c the incumbent was unpopular, she gave $1200 rebate to every residents (*cough* BRIBE *cough*)
4. She is being praised as a tax cutter, DESPITE the fact that Alaska has NO state income or sales tax.
5. She approves “Abstinence only” programs and look where it got her daughter.
6. She tried to spend tax-payers money for a STATE program to shoot wolves fromthe air but did not spend enough $ to fix a STATE school system with the LOWEST high-school graduation rate in the NATION.

So if you feel that all the above and her ability to “freestyle” a speech makes her a qualified VP candidate, then hey McCain/Palin is just the right ticket for you.

That whole convention was bs, they sat their talking about how their gonna bring real change(all the while not explaining how), low and behold they turn around and say that they are basically going to keep doing the same SH*T bush is doing, and the audience continued to clap and get excited…then they attack Barrack & Biden on taxes, people need to be realistic taxes are going to have to be raised to get out of the sh*t we’re in…it just pissed me off how stupid the audience was being Republican or not, if someones feeding you bs you need call them on it, not applaud like some star struck group

Barack’s not good under pressure. That’s my point. He stutters and fubbles over words, doesn’t give any concrete solutions or explanations. Part of the reason he does it, is because he doesn’t know what he’s doing. In fact I’m convinced that he loves the sound of his own voice.
______________________________________________________________________

Sigh….I guess PALIN is good under pressure….you have seen her debate right? Oh no wait you have seen her get questioned by Tim Russert (RIP) on Meet the Press, a show that both Republicans and Democrats say was fair and balanced and showed what you were made of, right? We don’t know how she will do and going up against Biden I say then we will see what she is made of. Until then your argument AGAIN does not hold up. And trust and believe OBAMA will be more than ready to debate McCain….

@ #27 Obama wrote the whole speech when he had to talk about race after the media got on him about Rev. Wright. He wrote that himself. For smart people like Obama and Hillary they use speech writers to assist them. They are contributors along with the candidate. For people like Palin her whole speech was done by McCains writers.

Its sad that she exaggerated nearly all of her achievements and too put down someone who’s worked within their community and then worked with their state and then decided to work for their nation is tasteless, Barack worked for the people..there’s nothing wrong with that in the least…And what I noticed is that when I watch the RNC i dont see people who look like me. I see mainly white older delegates. You don’t see a lot of blacks and latinos or the young…

I guarantee that there will be, at the most, 2 debates. Obama can’t debate well & isn’t informed enough on the issues, to win one. His campaign will come up w/ some bullshyt excuse for why debates are useless.

Oh and I can not wait for you to see Mrs Palin in action, trust she’s no Hillary, but she’ll put BOTH Biden & Obama in their places. Trust.

I am not a Republican nor am I a Democrat (anymore), I’ve had it w/ the Democrats..and last time I checked, I’m allowed to critique THE MESSIAH, even if you’re not willing to.

#2- Thanks for questioning the community organizer issue. Thought I was the only person who found their attacks on Barack for being a community organizer in the being of his career offensive and questionalbe. From my understanding, the community is the back bone of America. We all represent and are a reflection of our community whether negative or postive. If there weren’t any community leaders on the front line fighting for the million of unheard voices, and ensuring the we have the basic infrastructures that enables us to live our everyday lifes, how would most Americans be able to provide for their families?

Palin and Guiliani speeches both lack subtance, and gives a clear picture of why we cannot afford another 8 yrs of Rebulicans!! They are completly out of touch. To quote Obama- ” it’s not than John McCain doesn’t care, HE JUST DOESN”T GET IT!”

So fellow Americans I’ve had the pleasure of joing you everyday on this website but now is the time I’ve felt like having a voice. My comments below:

This is huge and can definitely impact the quality of life my son and I have for the next four years. This is supposed to be a milestone to show how far we’ve come in diversity and openmindness. I am not a die-hard Democrat and am always trying to see both sides of the coin to see what benefits can come out of this, I was thoroughly disappointed while watching the Republican National Convention.

A. There was too much time used to try to defame Obama.
B. The only issues that I heard brought up were taxes and the war. What happened to education, poverty, employment, health insurance, housing, etc…are these not important anymore?
C. I have a huge problem with someone trying to force their beliefs on me. If you are pro-life, then God bless you but do not make that decision for me. Not only that, please do not tell me that you promote abstinence and you’ve got a teenage pregnant daughter and have embraced the teenage father. Please show me you can lead your home with your beliefs before trying to implement them into the nation.
D. A lot of what Palin bragged about in her speech last night was embellished. She forgets it’s easy to have access to all of your doings when you’re a ‘figure’…yes you have done those things you’ve listed but not to the degree if you’ve tried to make it seem.
E. McCain is 150 years old (a little embellishment as Palin does) with medical issues..will he be able to handle the stress of running a country for the next four years? If not, does he think Palin will be able to?
F. The Republicans are not relatable. They do not embody what I’d like as a representation of the United States of America. Have they thought about the little people, the poor and powerless, the minorities, the day to day struggles?
G. Why do I have to keep being reminded that McCain was in the Navy and was a POV??? Please lets move on with this point and get to another. Great he’s a veteran and served his country but what else?
H. How are the Republicans going to dig us out of the hole they got us in? Why haven’t they addressed that?
I. Why is McCain now trying to distance himself from Bush when that was his running buddy for the last eight years?
J. Do they really think this ploy of getting Palin in is supposed to sway the female voters? If anything, it has completely turned me off. She is unrelatable as well - I am not a hockey mom, I do not wear lipstick, I do not advocate the killing of animals, I do not really give a damn about polar bears (I’d prefer to worry about the educational access for our children), and what the hell is a moose burger? She is only one type of woman and did not make herself readily accessible or open to other women..she has a mind that does not think outside of the box and only sees things her way so am I really supposed to vote for her just because she has a vagina?
K. Yes Obama is young and inexperienced but does having more experience make you qualified or does the inexperience give you a fresh look on old issues?

L, M, N, O, P —–

I could go on and on…I swear I really could..I couldn’t stand listening to them all the way through..I had to listen and then flip channels.

Have a wonderful day and please VOTE this November..your say has an impact on my life.

She was as immature and childish while making her speech as a pregnant teenage girl!

@ 23 The reason why so many people are upset that she dragged her family onstage was because it was clearly forced and phony, a sham. Those kids did not want to be there and that baby daddy (who by the way is 18 and had sex with a minor) was over it as well. When the Obama’s were on stage it was natural and not forced. Palin is trying so hard to come off as the all American family (”hockey mom”, please) I dont see it.

Like someone said earlier the republicans are using the same scare tactics they used to intimidate us into believing we needed to go to war. They never have any substance they only use mind control. Her entire speech was based on snide attacks hurled at Barack as well as Michelle. Tell us how you will change the state of the economy instead of name calling. Like all republicans she represents lies, deciet and hypcritical religious beliefs.

Selecting Palin as the VP running mate to John McCain was just one more way for McCain to stuff the ballot box. Obama could’ve done the same thing by selecting Clinton, instead he chose someone who had some experienced who would help him take this country in the direction we need to go. If the republicans win, this nation will go down in flames. We cannot let that happen. OBAMA/BIDEN 08

What I don’t understand is how Palin spoke for kids with special needs, and McCain VOTED AGAINST Special EDUCATION…. GO FIGURE…

She doesn’t want her family scrutinized. However, she throws them into the public to be eaten alive….

She wants to receive respect, but sarcastically attacks Obama, and never deals with the issues….

Miss Palin may have the Republicans fooled, but I see right threw her inexperience! You never once spoke on the issues because you still need training on all of those issues at hand.

You say your a mother of 5 children. 1 - down syndrome, 1 teenager pregnant…and that you are a Hockey mom, well…it sounds like home is where your full time job should be. You need to put family first with those type of issues at hand. And is it just me, or does anyone else feel they pass that baby around way too much… And the baby daughter held that baby way too long. It looked as if she were close to dropping the baby at one point…

Sarah’s dry humor did not persuade me to vote for her ticket. No part of her speech supported her nomination for VP. The one thing I can agree with is a mother of 5 can work a full time job. I’ve seen it done by moms in my community. Does that mean she can or should take on the role of VP? No…not at all. Why a man with years of experience would select an inexperienced running mate is beyond me. Let’s be real Alaska is not New York, or Illinois for that matter. She said she came from a small town in AK, aren’t all the towns small there? I watched Northern Exposure and there was never a real issue on that show. Yes I know it was fiction but isn’t all fiction some how rooted in reality? Very disappointed at McCain (POW) and it’s sad to see he has given up another fight.

It’s this hyprocrisy that just keeps me laughing, all day! Obama had millions of support w/ no proven record to support his ability to be an effective commander n chief. But yet you judge me for giving positive critiques of Palin?

When people told me they supported Obama, w/ no experience, (I’m sorry giving “present” votes in Congress doesn’t count as “experience”) I just figured that maybe they were seeing something that I didn’t.

Why can’t the same apply for Palin? Obama hasn’t proven anything, and according to you, neither has Palin..so let’s just agree to disagree FOR NOW because I’m sure, in the upcoming debates, she’ll really shed light on both Obama & Biden.

Typical Republican rhetoric, is what you call the last 3 days of the RNC. The truth of the matter is, that’s all they have, and always have been about. News Flash McCain & Palin, the American People are SMARTER than that. Scare tactics and mud slinging won’t work this time around. Republicans talk about working across the isle, but the last 3 days they’ve done nothing but further divide the country. I thought I was looking at a KKK convention as opposed to the Republican Convention; but then again, we are talking about a Republican President who left thousands of African American people to fend for themselves during, and after Hurricane Katrina. So their little Broke Back Mountain dipiction this week should strike no supprise. Another News Flash McCain & Palin, since your party is right and EVERYONE Else is wrong, what are you going to do for the tremendous deficit that Your Party’s President has gotten us in? How about affordable Health Care? Better Jobs? Reversing the negative effect of the ECONOMY your Party has gotten us into? What about the rising cost of food and gas? THE REAL ISSUES THAT AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE FACING ON A DAY TO DAY BASIS!!! The Republican Brand can’t answer these questions, BECAUSE THEY DON’T HAVE A CLUE!!! Here’s some words of advice, before you go out attempting to tear down someone else’s character with the mud slinging, you might want to take a look in the mirror, or better yet take a bath, because you’re not so sqeeky clean yourself.

131.

Thursday, September 4, 2008 /

@sigh
the thing is when obama came out, the republicans kept stating he was inexperienced and that an inexperienced person should not have a hand in running the country then they turned around and added an inexperienced person to their ticket. THAT is hypocrisy.

and what about the fact that republicans attack obama for changing his mind on certain issues yet they do the same thing (palin was FOR the “bridge of nowhere” before she was against it-just one example). and the republicans talk about the pregnancy issue as if it’s great that she kept the baby YET they used to criticize the SAME EXACT THING (i.e. dan quayle and his comments about a sitcom). and mccain was accused of plagiarism from his book just like obama was accused of it when details of that speech came out.-all of that is hypocritical
overall newsflash: there is hypocrisy in both camps, politicians are liars in general.for someone who claims to be unbiased, i’m surprised that you don’t see that and choose only to see the negative side of the democrats without talking about the negative side of the republicans. i’ve seen things that i didn’t like from both sides.

Random thoughts:

1) Palin did a good job in delivering her speech…..did anyone really think she wouldn’t? She was prepped vigorously by the campaign over the last couple of days and practiced the speech for hours (this per ABC news). Would’ve been more impressed had she actually spoke about her & McCains plans for fixing the economy, etc., as opposed to reading a speech prepared for her.

2) I’m very confused by the media talk that Hillary Clinton supporters will now vote McCain because of Palin. As a woman who was a Clinton supporter I am offended!!!! Palin is no Clinton. I supported Clinton because I agreed with her views and ideals, not because she was a woman. Palin is the polar opposite of Clinton and I WILL NOT GET MY VOTE.

3) I am soooooooo tired of all the whining about being a woman in this campaign. That’s right, I said it, and this is coming from a woman. If you want to roll with the big dogs then you better be able to not only dish it out, but take it as well. Stop falling back on this “oh poor me, they’re treating me different because I’m a woman, yada, yada, yada”.

4) I certainly didn’t hear anything of substance from Mrs. Palin, except she can spit out one-liners. And does the Republican party really think that all this Obama mocking is going to make most Americans forget about the mess of the past 8 years and the current economic environment — under a Republican administration no less? Do they really think Americans are that naive……I guess so.

5) Interesting observation: DNC was very diverse and reached out to ALL of america; RNC appears to be very white and reaching out to rural america only.

6) Children of politicians, IMO, are no more off limits than children of celebrities. So here’s my take on Palin’s daughter’s situation. Did anyone see the boyfriends MySpace page where he states he’s a f***ing redneck who likes to party and doesn’t want kids..LOL Well, it has been taken off of MySpace, along with various photos of him and Palin’s daughter. What I noticed about the photos was alcohol and guns were very prevalent. So, am I to assume that kids in Alaska are having sex, participating in underage drinking, and shooting off firearms in their spare time?!? How ironic for a woman who ran on a conservative platform. All I can say is SCARY!!!!

6) Palin has a lot of nerve belittling community activism. Community activists across this country should be up in arms. When injustice is exposed, it’s the community activist, not politicians, who galvanize a community to action/change. Many people in communities would be lost if not for the activists that come to their aid. Interesting that she thinks that is not important.

7) If Biden doesn’t go after her in the debates I will be very disappointed. She has made it clear that down & dirty is how she’s going to play it, so if I were Biden I go after her with a vengeance.

8) Her supposed experience doesn’t quite add up when you do the research.

134.

huh

Thursday, September 4, 2008 /

but she does have more executive experience than Obama. That’s what’s so funny about the whole thing. The whole “experience” argument does not go out the door, it makes you look at Obama like..hmmm…. Anything Obama says now about experience is out the door. Notice how they are comparing Palin to Obama, but Palin is running for VP and she’s done more than the person running for President.

Obama choosing Biden was a bad move.

You have to hand it to McCain whether or not you like him, he stole the thunder.

Will it work? I have no idea.

LMAO! I don’t care if William Shakespeare wrote that speech. That thing was hilarious. This whole nonsense is scripted, from start to finish, so to say that she didn’t write what she recited is irrelevant. She, like any trained actor, delivered her lines well. I think that the incisiveness of her speech speaks volumes based on the amount of comments on a political post. I think black people know that this woman made Obama look very bad last night. She didn’t touch on any issues, but neither has he. In an office that lasts 4 years, anyone that promises dramatic governmental reform is a damn liar in an economy that is over 1 trillion dollars in debt. They will both do the only thing that can be done to regurgitate a capitalist economy, raise taxes and wage wars.

Cindy’s not running for president. Obama is. So his past drug use is very important and does need to be discussed. It’s extremely rare for addicts to fully kick the habit, especially when they’re dealing w/ stressful situations, i.e running the country. Something to think about

I think the issue of “experience” has gotten out of hand! The only people who can toute “I have the experience to be president” are candidates running for a second term. All of these people are in effect “newbies” so no one can say one is more experienced than another.

I hope they plan on asking Palin how much experience she has in cleaning up the crime and drugs that plague some of our cities, or how she plans to be a “friend and advocate” for mothers who are afraid to send their child(ren) to the local public schools and don’t have the luxury of moving to a better district, or what kind of youth programs and campaigns she plans on starting so children are busy and productive and aren’t tempted by drugs or ALCOHOL or SEX *ahem*.

She only spoke about what she KNOWS, which is expected. But these people kill me b/c they act like this isn’t a two way street. You can’t attack someone else on what they don’t know and not have your own ish together.

As a person in the spotlight, one must choose words very very carefully, and last night she said (or rather agreed to say) some things that were questionable. The joke about pitbull and lipstick isn’t the kind of imagery that needs to be put out there. We already are too loose with women calling themselves and each other “bitches”. So no matter how “cute” she though the joke was, she should’ve steered clear of that. Also, does she not realize that community activists and organizers have been the uplifting force in many under-represented, ignored, and destitute MINORITY communities?!?!?! Is she discrediting the CHANGE that these people stepped up to create when no one else seemed to care?!?!?!?! If Wasilla, Alaska were a populous, culturally/socio-economically diverse, complex city, her ass would’ve been THANKING community organizers for picking up the slack. But by comparing and deeming her mayoral position as more valuable than Obama’s activism, she proved that places where I grew up will continued to be ignored and shunned and swept under the rug by the likes of her.

hmmm. well she can speak but not to ME. I am an African American MOM / WIFE working two jobs still facing forclosure, trying to send my kids to good schools and college, trying to afford groceries and healthcare. Palin does not believe in safe sex education when African american youth are catching and spreading HIV at rates that rival third world countries. Her own pregnant daughter an example of the problem, she is touting her “pit bull” tactics… well we KNOW they can attack, but what can they heal? We have the worst deficit in history… and balancing Alaska’s budget doesn’t impress me… there are more people in Detroit than in Alaska. there are still two full scale wars going on… and I do not intend to lose my sons in either one of them. No foreign policy concept… just the same old “shoot first and ask questions later” nonsense. Her answer to global warming … drill more? ummm no thanks, not impressed. In fact, frightened that people are really buying into this. Well if you always do what you’ve always done… you will always get what you always got.

It breaks down the speech, all the half truths and down right lies that were said about Senators Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Keep in mind this is an unbiased news article that’s just stating the facts.

I am inspired by the man young, middle aged and elder people that are tuning into the convention both Democrats and Republicans and voicing their opinions and getting people out there to vote. Either way, history will be made. I have a problem when I listen to the Palin speak last night and part of her speech, she stated that she is a REPUBLICAN because she refuses to stay poor and wait for the government to assist her…if that isn’t racism than I would prefer to live in another country where we are not constantly judged by our race or religion. As a candidate, I feel that its your duty to represent the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, not the republicans. When I watched the Democratic Convention, you truly saw what America is…a melting pot of different races, religions, genders…people hugged one another, danced, sang, and it really showed what this great country could be if we came together as one to fight a common battle…to see a white guy w/ his clip board trying to sign up people to vote, or watching the celebrities rocking their “Barack The Vote” t-shirt…it makes me proud to be an American and the tears are constantly flowing just anticipating of what is to come in November…looking at last nights audience…I would of thought that I was looking at a KKK convention or Veterans convention…the Republicans feel that the war is the # 1 topic to be discussed…when the hell will they get it through their heads, that people are losing their jobs, having their houses foreclosed and resorting to bicycles to get to work…lets not talk about those that are working 3-4 jobs in order to pay their bills…and you continue to think that our security is important…don’t get me wrong…I am pro life like Palin and I love the fact that she carried her child full term, knowing that he would be born w/ Down Syndrome, you PALIN, you don’t represent me in any kind of way…the Republicans can boast about the upcoming election like they have it in the bag, but they have to realize that they have a hard battle ahead of them…Unfortunately if McCain & his sidekick are elected, then we have to come together to make this the country it once was.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.

Some examples:

PALIN: “I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending … and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere.”

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a “bridge to nowhere.”

PALIN: “There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it’s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate.”

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

PALIN: “The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars.”

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama’s plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain’s plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

MCCAIN: “She’s been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America’s energy supply … She’s responsible for 20 percent of the nation’s energy supply. I’m entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America,” he said in an interview with ABC News’ Charles Gibson.

THE FACTS: McCain’s phrasing exaggerates both claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she’s no more “responsible” for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where Alaska is the largest state in America, McCain could as easily have called it the 47th largest state — by population.

MCCAIN: “She’s the commander of the Alaska National Guard. … She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities,” he said on ABC.

THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under “federal status,” which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska’s national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.

FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin “got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States.”

THE FACTS: A whopper. Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor’s election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.

FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: “We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin.”

THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.

the thing is when obama came out, the republicans kept stating he was inexperienced and that an inexperienced person should not have a hand in running the country then they turned around and added an inexperienced person to their ticket.

Her teleprompter did not go out that is a right wind in order to make her sound like Clinton because that happened to him years ago.

She said that Obama has wrote two book but no legislation ever that’s a cold hearted lie or was she just reading from her speech that was written for her?

State

Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation reforming ethics and health care laws.[29] He sponsored a law increasing tax credits for low-income workers, negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for childcare.[30] In 2001, as co-chairman of the bipartisan Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Obama supported Republican Governor Ryan’s payday loan regulations and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home foreclosures,[31] and in 2003, Obama sponsored and led unanimous,

Federal

Obama voted in favor of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and cosponsored the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act.[57] In September 2006, Obama supported a related bill, the Secure Fence Act.[58] Obama introduced two initiatives bearing his name: “Lugar–Obama,” which expanded the Nunn–Lugar cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons,[59] and the “Coburn–Obama Transparency Act,” which authorized the establishment of http://www.USAspending.gov, a web search engine.[60]

Obama sponsored legislation requiring nuclear plant owners to notify state and local authorities of radioactive leaks.[61] In December 2006, President Bush signed into law the “Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act,” marking the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor.[62] In January 2007, Obama co-sponsored the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act, which was signed into law in September 2007.[63] He introduced S. 453, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections.[64] Obama also introduced the Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007. [65]

Later in 2007, Obama sponsored an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges.[67] He sponsored the “Iran Sanctions Enabling Act” supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran’s oil and gas industry, and co-sponsored legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.[68][69] Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children’s Health Insurance Program providing one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries.[70]

So again how does Palin’s career compare??? This also shows that he has reached across party lines.

The race card has no place in this election and neither does the sex card.

I’m sorry but come on - McCain for President? Really? Anyone who’s getting suckered by Palin’s apparently amazing speech and the Republican campaign has the same dealer as Britney Spears.
To those who are tring to put Obama in a box and say he has his speeches written for him - Obama writes all his speeches, then gets together with his people to edit them.
[http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1837368,00.html]. There, evidence. He’s not a puppet, he’s ascended to this point based on him putting forward his own ideology of how the US, and the world for that matter, can move forward. Obama is his own man and is ready to ‘live or die’ by his ideas.
So he may have dabbled in some drugs in his past, so what? Everyone has skeletons in their closet, nobody’s perfect - we’re electing a President not a pope. whether we want a former cocaine taker in the White House is irrelevant because our best president in recent years spent his spare time receiving oral sex while in office. Did such a shortcoming hinder him or render him useless and incapable when it came to passing legislation and being a commander-in-chief? We’re looking for a leader, someone calm under pressure, someone who can take the sting out of the despairing economy and the rising tensions of the world we live in today. People keep talking about McCain’s war experience, but do we really need someone who’s tempestuous and aggressive when Iran, Russia, Syria and even North Korea have the potential to destroy millions upon millions of lives in a 3rd World War at the first instance of US aggression? Does 5 years as a POW qualify you to help me deal with the credit crunch, and increasing costs of living?
Obama set his stall out last week and told the world what he plans to do and how he’s going to do it. At the RNC, we’ve heard nothing in the past 3 days but the running down of reputations. The Democrats have built their campaign on the message of change, and how it will be delivered. The Republicans have spent their time and money on slandering Obama, rather than telling us how they’ll make things better. Even the pick of Palin was done not with the idea of putting someone capable a heartbeat away from the presidency, but rather just to hurt the Obama campaign and placate the Hilary-mourners.

Its a damn shame some people can’t see that its not a case of wanting Obama to succeed, regardless of his race, its a case of NEEDING him to be our next president.

157.

Thursday, September 4, 2008 /

As one political commentator covering the Republican convention aptly put it, this election will not be won on issues - the issues the American people are concerned about favor the democrats (economy primarily) because democrats have traditionally been better at resolving those issues (I was living phat when Clinton was in the White House, and now I’m living paycheck to paycheck, so yeah, I understand).

Thus, they will continue to attack Obama because that’s all they can do. However, especially since Obama is not playing the “dirty politics” game with them, it will backfire - at least I hope it will.

McCain made a serious faux-paus when he chose Palin as his running mate and he knows it. However, he really didn’t have a choice - he needed a woman or a black man ( a black woman would have been ideal), and we know there ain’t too many of us in the Republican party. He can’t however go back and rescind his offer because that would call his judgement into question - if he can’t pick a running mate, how will ever run the country? She’s his “ride-or-die” chick now, seriously.

the McCain/Palin ticket has no credibility. Obama’s 50% to 42% lead in the polls show that Americans agree.

Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate

All I’m saying is that the Republicans are pretty damn good, when it comes to winning elections. I sincerely doubt they’d be leaking all this damaging info, if it weren’t going to benefit them in the end, some how. I guess we’ll all just have to sit back & wait and see what their next plan of attack is.

@sigh of course the repubs have a plan and it’s a bad one

@Poetic Blue yeah she cut the spending for special needs children by 62% (of course before she had a special needs child herself)- the repubs haven’t been able to explain that yet.

one thing i have to give to the repubs though is that they stand by their own NO MATTER WHAT. already several repubs have been caught off-mike criticizing her even though they were praising her moments before. the repubs know how to group together and they will attack you even if they have to lie to do it (as seen from the convention). might sound cruel but that’s how you win elections.

@sigh

You must be a REPUG troll. I mean WTF are you thinking. I cant stand GW Bush, but did he go back to snorting cocaine after 9/11? I’d consider that a pretty stressful situation.

____________________________________________________________________

First off, let’s be clear about one thing, Bush never promised anything to the American people. Secondly, Bush doesn’t give a dayum about what anybody thinks about him! This man has the lowest approval rating in the history of all presidents. This mutha— could care less! LOL

Now back to your point, Bush didn’t do anything while in office. He had that little vindictive demon Cheney do all his dirty work, (do I still sound like a Repug troll?) so how can he be stressed when he didn’t accomplish a dayum thing.

And as for 9/11, he cared more about a childrens story book as oppose to what was happening in NY.

I say that Obama would be stressed because he has all these expectations, due to the constant rehetoric that he is spewing. IF he gets into office, and doesn’t accomplish anything? The villagers will be chasing him out of the White House w/ torches! LOL

You can support them all you want, but if you have loved ones in the armed forces( like I do), you might as well kiss them goodbye for years to come. I will ALWAYS choose diplomacy over war and Obama supports diplomacy while Palin states that he “wants to read them their rights.” That was code for…we will continue this war until Republicans feel it is over no matter if we are really getting anywhere or not. My loved one joined the military because he loves his country and so do I…but if they become in office, I am out of here. Thursday, September 4, 2008 /

Alaska Gov.

Whyme, I love all your comments! But, please don’t waste your time on people like Sigh and Ja. They aren’t worth your time. No matter what you say to them, they won’t understand. It’s like trying to explain to McCain the middle class IS NOT people who make under 5 million dollars.

I’m voting for Obama, not because I think he will change anything. It’s up to us to make the changes. I see his message the way I want to see it. WE ALL NEED TO CHANGE. Stop being lazy; stop being dead beat mom and dads; get a real fuckin’ job; go to the damn doctor; teach your kids what’s right; etc. As far as Obama goes, he could definitely do something about giving the rich and the companies
that out source tax breaks. Right now, in some situations the receptionist gets more taken out of her check than the boss. That’s crazy.

As for the experience, please. We have all been there. You can’t tell me that you tried to get a job that you had no experience and yet you got hired because of your ambition and potential. All of us start out with a little or no experience some where. You can hire some one with plenty of experience and they can still turn out to be a laze or a thief or whatever. It’s all about ambition.

I usually don’t comment but today is different!! Yesterday I was watching the Daily show with Jon Stewart and he had a good point…McCain’s Aid is quoted as saying “Bristol decided to keep the baby, a decision “supported by her parents.” However.. Palin is Anti-Abortion, she believes that women should not get to choose, yet her DAUGHTER can choose…choices like this would be non-existent if Palin gets in the White House. What about the rest of the women Palin and McCain want to take that choice from??? What is her daughter special so she gets to choose?
What if a women is raped? Even if she decides to give that baby up for adoption, carrying that baby for 9 months could have psychological effects on that women for the rest of her life. Now I believe abortion is wrong too, depending on the circumstance, but that’s my opinion and choice not the government’s.

And did anyone else notice in Palin’s speech she said (I’m paraphrasing) that she’s ALWAYS been proud of her country? The tone in which she said that made it seem like a dig to the Michelle O. quote that has been taken waaaaaaaaay out of context. Michelle needs to put that to rest once and for all. She said it’s the first time she’s been *REALLY* proud [...] Meaning that she’s always been proud, but that moment in time was significant because it is the most she’s been proud thus far. In case they never got the memo, most emotions such as pride, can have varying degrees of intensity over ones lifetime. Ugh.

LOVE Palin. I’m black and I’m DEFINITELY voting McCain along with all my family and friends. She delivered a great speach last night and I’m glad because now I’m 110% sure that I’m voting McCain ‘08. And incase you ignorant Concreteloop readers don’t know, Palin is more experienced the Obama. I can lay it down for you if you disagree.

Delete Obam’s skin color, and then tell me if you would vote him. Yeah, I know it’s not just because he’s black but he has made so many promises that I garuntee he won’t be able to fulfill. A lot of candidates do, but Obama went over board. Can someone please explain to me what Obama is going to do that HE MUST be elected? Besides that fact that he’s paving the way for African-Americans, because that’s all I hear from peoples mouths. I don’t need Obama to be president for me to realize that it is possible for me to become a black president.

And you guys know that whatever mistakes Obama does you try to make an excuse because you are that obsessed. I admit when McCain is wrong, but it seems to me that all you guys keep defending Obama, shooting down McCain with hateful comments because he’s against Obama. We get it, he’s old..now what? @150..

I highly disagree, to an extant. I’ve seen parents in my church work their butts off trying to raise their children in the correct manner. But it seems like the more they try, the worse the child becomes. It isn’t the parents fault if thier child was born with a “I do what I wanna do” attitude.
The most you can do is tell & show them the right and wrong ways of the world, but you have to also remember that friends, music, and other things have a huge impact on them also. So not only do they have your ways of living they have the worlds ways of living. If your daughter gets pregnant I don’t think you should be tearing up sheets over it, if you know you did the best that you could do than don’t blame yourself, you blame her. It was HER mind that made the decision, it was HER mind that let a boy get up in her, it was HER that aloud a boy to touch her in a rude manner. Some children are just ignorant and they always blame the parents. some of the best parents in the world have kids in Rehab, it is what it is.

hmmm # 115 and 138 I have to agree with some of what you both said….. esp #138 no one really has experience to be President unless they make it a second term but Bush and his croonies have proven that sometime even a second term is a futile effort so do I really want to take a major CHANCE on McCain repeating the same mistakes that have already been made by Bush?

If McCain is in office it will be like voting Bush in for yet another term…. do your own homework gather information and make an informed decision… speeches and conventions are great entertainment and a great way to get more money flowing into the campaign but facts speak for themselves and I’m speaking about both DNC and RNC…

Obama having less experience then Bush or McCain really means nothing because it’s already been proven the most experienced person can also prove to be the greatest f**k up of all time so much so he will go down in history as a legend for just that I’ll take my 10% chance on O and keep it moving….

Please state your age. Really, Americans are just such idiots that they don’t realize that THE PRESIDENT DOESN’T EVEN MAKE HALF OF THE GOT DAMN DECISIONS!! But go ahead hate Bush..why I dont know. The only thing I feel he did wrong was put our country in more dept..but that’s about it. Bush is still my buddy, he hasn’t done shit to any of you guys because I keep asking people what Bush has done to them and they always seem to avoid or change the subject. I wonder why?

Honestly, not be mean, those families are SO foolish for crying over Bush keeping the troops in Iraq. Who signed up for the war?? They did. They’re acting like there was a draft and random men got dragged out of their homes..If you signed up then your family should already know that there is no 100% sure that they’re coming home. And that’s just too bad. They chose to be in the war so they should face what they chose, gosh..There doesn’t have to be an empty seat at the dinner table..just put it in the living room. It’ aint that complicated. I’m not trying to be mean, it’s just honesty. I like Bush mattafact I LOVE Bush and I dont care what anyone says. Blah @ all of you members of the Obama protection squad. She didn’t “shamelessly attack Obama” her speech mirrored the tone of many of those heard at the DNC - and by the way - she never mentioned her opponents by name, neither Biden nor Obama can say that. I am really shocked that you all speak so harshly of her bringing her children out. The Obama family had a PREPARED SKIT- i honestly thought I was watching In Living Color and Lil’ Magic had appeared on my screen. And she did speak to issues - drilling, energy, coal, taxes, corruption in government. Obama sounds just like John Kerry did some years back - great ideas, no plan. I mean fundamentally how can a black man just totally be against reparations - in itself that makes no sense - N-O-N-E, don’t even get me started on what he wants to do to inner city schools and teachers.

Is Fox News calling Palin’s daughter’s childs father her “baby daddy” like they did with Michelled and Barack Obama?

I hope that unqualified bitch rots in Hell with the rest of the hypocritical right-wing! They espouse all these bullshit family values publicly, but behind closed doors it’s a different story.

Nothing but hate and lies spewed out of her mouth! I felt like I was watching a KKK convention. She said nothing about the middle class and us college struggling to pay tution. Republicans dont believe in helping those in need… yet they do everything in God’s name? Well WWJD? They are sicking! And it’s unfortunate they will win!

IM NOT buying it she used her family as props for the convention. She attacked Obama so much to make it appear as if shes tough as Hillary but I wasn’t buying it. Im honestly a little jaded on this election i want Nov 4 to hurry up.

Her whole speech was riddled with attacks and jabs at Obama and Democrats and that’s okay… Republicans are known for getting down and dirty….

but wait until sheis up there alone with Biden during the debate, she will get taken down a peg or more…

I was not the least bit impressed with her, she came off as shrewd and condescending AND never once spoke about her positions on ANY issues…

CNN touiched on the new culture war between urban and rural America…. now us urbanites are the enemies???? I am soooo sick of her and that old guy, let’s just let them go head to head and we’ll see whose stepping up to the plate with some cajones… literally…

that heifer needs to go back to lalal land with her earmark taking ass…. oh yeah, she tried to drop dime about that EXCEPT she left out the fact that she had already taken 26 MILLION earmark dollars for that “bridge to nowhere” until someone blew her spot …. she is sooo full of bull and ANYONE who was moved by her better check that resume ….

that chick will stab you in the back while tongue kissing you…. don’t get it twisted….

she has no interest in the African American experience, or anyone unlike her trailer park ass…

her husband was arrested for DWI, her future son in law was photographed with his sister holding a rifle and a Smith and Wesson clearly going negro hunting and her daughter was taken out of school for a few months round the time Trig was born, due to a serious case of mono….. hhhmmmm all kinda suspect shit in this woman’s life and this is who you want giving executive advice to the old guy??!??!?!

The key to combatting McCain and Palin is to make sure that you are registered to vote and that you show up on election day and pull the lever.

What I saw last night would never have been tolerated if it were Barack going after Palin in the same manner.

Everyone is saying that Barack and Joe have to walk a fine line when discussing her to not come off as being a bully to the woman. Well, she threw punches last night so she should be able to receive them as well. If she’s a pitbull, somene needs to call the dogcatcher.

this had to be the worst speech i have ever heard in my whole life. She spent more time trying to Defame Obama and not discussing the issues and how she will try to make this a better country while in office.

I love to see another woman in the race! Congrats to the republican party, that’s a big change in the right direction! And I like Palin a lot, she’s not affraid to say what she thinks and isn’t overly “political”… go head Sarah!

211.

Thursday, September 4, 2008 /

@ 8… THANK YOU!!! When Palin said Obama hasn’t authored “a single major law or reform - not even in the state senate.” That scared me to death!!! And he’s who we want our next president to be!? Come on people! Plain may not have a ton of experience either, but she’s only running for VP not president, and she STILL has more experience than Obama in regard to actual leadership and responsibility! Some of the people on here need a reality check- FOR REAL!!! 95% of the media is extremely left-winged so of course they’re going to praise Obama no matter what, but you better do your homework!

212.

please stay in school

Thursday, September 4, 2008 /

The media is so obsessed with this Sarah Palin woman…when just a week and a half ago, 97.9% of this country didn’t know who the (expletive) she was. And another 60% of the US sometimes forgets that Alaska is a part of the United States…i know I do. LOL!!!!!

Anyhow, I think she presents herself very well…but she has become the Republican poster-child for anti-abortion, working motherhood, career woman–and I must admit that picking her was a very smart, strategic move on their end. She went so hard at Obama last night…and she is stealing Obama’s superstar status away from him in the world of sensationalized media. OBAMA NEEDS TO ROLL UP HIS SLEEVES AND GET DIRTY!!! IT’S TIME TO ATTACK.

It’s a shame that now i am worried about whether Obama will win this election. The Republicans are the most conniving, deceitful people on the planet..they will do any thing to take away our progress!!!

I was appalled by some of the comments made by the news anchors, saying this wasa home run. Like most of you said prior , she is just pointing obama’s flaws, but what is she going to do? I try to watch the RNC with an open mind, but its hard, when the majority of the people are white, watching a mini-nazi campaign, one once have they said what they are going to do better than Bush, im still waiting. This issues should be spoken about ,right in the get-go… Correct me im wrong, but there something shrewed and fake about that woman. all of the sudden her 5-moth pregnant daughter is going to get married, and next week, the boyfriend/fiancee is there to share the glorious moment. what a fam!

let's not lie

Thursday, September 4, 2008 /

@210 lol he has. it was only one though and it was actually an adjunct so idk if that counts. read up on it. whenever a person makes a speech (regardless of party) you need to write down several points and research them. that’s what i do b/c all politicians either lie, omit details, or exaggerate. they are here to win, not to be your truthful friend

@Ms. Monae. . . .

If you only count the number of years the Sarah “Manchurian Candidate” Palin has more experience, but if you count what they have done is office then she’s like a first grader. about 90% of what Palin said she has done in of was either already in place years before she got in office or she just flat out lied. She said she lowered taxes when in fact Alaska has never had any state income tax and in fact while she was mayor she started the first sales tax in her town. She talks like her Husband is a blue collar guy when really is a oil executive.

@213.let’s not lie

She said that Obama has wrote two book but no legislation ever that’s a cold hearted lie or was she just reading from her speech that was written for her? Also it’s a lot more then one

State

Obama gained bipartisan support for legislation reforming ethics and health care laws. He sponsored a law increasing tax credits for low-income workers, negotiated welfare reform, and promoted increased subsidies for childcare. In 2001, as co-chairman of the bipartisan Joint Committee on Administrative Rules, Obama supported Republican Governor Ryan’s payday loan regulations and predatory mortgage lending regulations aimed at averting home foreclosures, and in 2003, Obama sponsored and led unanimous,

Federal

Obama voted in favor of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and cosponsored the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act.[57] In September 2006, Obama supported a related bill, the Secure Fence Act.[58] Obama introduced two initiatives bearing his name: “Lugar–Obama,” which expanded the Nunn–Lugar cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons,[59] and the “Coburn–Obama Transparency Act,” which authorized the establishment of http://www.USAspending.gov, a web search engine.

Obama sponsored legislation requiring nuclear plant owners to notify state and local authorities of radioactive leaks. In December 2006, President Bush signed into law the “Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act,” marking the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor. In January 2007, Obama co-sponsored the Honest Leadership and Open Government Act, which was signed into law in September 2007. He introduced S. 453, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections. Obama also introduced the Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007.

Later in 2007, Obama sponsored an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges. He sponsored the “Iran Sanctions Enabling Act” supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran’s oil and gas industry, and co-sponsored legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.[68][69] Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children’s Health Insurance Program providing one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries.

So again how does Palin’s career compare??? This also shows that he has reached across party lines.

The race card has no place in this election and neither does the sex card.

No Sex Card

No Sex Card

No Sex Card

For whoever asked - Yes Obama writes his speeches. Remember, he’s the man that was offered a book deal when he was an unknown and graduated from Harvard Law. He’s very intelligent and he’s a skilled writer.

Sarah Palin proved herself to be the unintelligent redneck she is. That speech was an insult to democracy. She is unintelligent, incapable, small minded and unexperienced. She outright lied about everything Barack has said and she said NOTHING about what her plans are for this country.

People who will vote for someone like McCain and Palin are ignorant - plain and simple. That speech was for ignorant Americans who are dumb enough to fall for cheap shots and no substance.

Pathetic!

PATHETIC!

@ . . . .Ms. Monae. . . .

You sound real ignorant, just like Palin and the type of uninformed Americans who would vote for her or McCain. Obama’s support is about more than just his skin color, it’s about his platform. One that is innovative, comprehensive, pragmatic and fiscally sound.

Unless you own Exxon, or have contracts in Iraq I can’t see how you or any other American can actually benefit from the election of John McCain. Do you actually know McCains platform? Do you actually understand the implications of his presidency? Have you benefited from George Bush being president? Do you think it’s sound to elect the party that put the economy in the tank it’s in?

Please go on with your foolishness…

Go vote for McCain, but don’t dare tell me that I’m ignorant or uniformed for voting for someone who is intelligent and capable.

BTW. I have a hard time voting for people with less education than me. So no, Gov. will never get me vote.

To Ms. Monae and JA

I really wonder how you can stomach voting for a man who has done nothing, NOTHING to champion civil rights issues? Do you realize that Obama’s agenda is to bring the troops home with honor.

Most of these young men and women are black or Latino, not white. The fact that he can speak so highly of the troops yet continue to commit them to a war for which there is no victory is beyond me. And on top of that, to say that he has a record of fighting on behalf of minorities when his voting record contradicts that, is abysmal.

The fact that this GOP convention was purely, PURELY about attacking Obama instead of offering real solutions to the American people who need SOLUTIONS is beyond my understanding. It’s clear that the GOP is out of touch with the United States. They’ve been for eight years, and will continue to be out of touch for the next four if they are elected.

Fortunately for the US, Ms. Monae and JA, the state-by-state polls show that Obama will not only win, but he will HANDILY win.

@102 *applauds* You said EXACTLY what was on my mind.
If y’all think McCain and Palin are gonna be the ones to change this funked up country YOU’RE WRONG.
You cannot vote for people that could care less about the issues at hand. Remember, Republicans do not give a flying rat’s ass about the middle or lower class.
They do whatever they can to help their OWN. It’s a damn fact.
And yes there were 2 black people at that convention.
I do customer service, and we have racist white people always coming in saying that things should stay the same, and praise McCain in our faces. And yes, they do say that.
i just worry for Obama cuz one of those crazy people will try to do something to him.
