I’m sorry…she’s just doing too too much…it seems/looks contrived, especially since the notes/words sung in what seems to be natural voice aren’t unlike any other R&B singer’s notes… The verses could be anybody from some old girl group to Lil Mo…it isn’t until the end that the song gets really unique but then you’re so turned off by the clutter that is the visual…I don’t like it and I think she’s going to have to censor herself…it’s indulgent and won’t win her much of an audience, I’m afraid.
This a cool video, shes really weird though not in a cool way either, I like her songs though.
I first watched and though wtf? weird. But after a few minutes I started to hear the words (in the beginning I wasn’t getting it…too much going on) and when she started talking about misfits and crackheads I was into it. I looked up the lyrics and watched again now realizing that this song and or video has a deeper meaning. I like Janelle Monae. My new favorite artist. Y’all should check out the lyrics, she’s saying something.
I wouldn’t say she’s a female version of Andre or Little Richard…more like a female version of the very female Janelle Monae…
