Nice, but why is he so recognized… he does not do much, other than show his face and use his name for things! I wanna see him petitioning a major company for racism like Nas or really getting his hands dirty like Wyclef Jean. This guy gets way too much credit!
That’s how you know he is a sellout! Too many Whites love this Brooklyn inbred!

WHAT HE NEED WITH STREET CRED, WHEN HE CAN BUY THE STREET? JAY DOES PLENTY, JUST BECAUSE YOU DON’T READ ABOUT IT DOESN’T MAKE IT ANY LESS TRUE. GOOGLE HIM COMBINED WITH CHARITY AND SEE WHAT COMES UP. JUST LIKE HE WILL BE IN MIAMI SUNDAY, HIS WIFE WIL BE IN MIAMI SATURDAY, BEING HONORED, FOR HER WORK WITH CHILDREN, BY MIAMI CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL. PEOPLE SHOULD REALLY STOP ASSUMING WHAT OTHER DO AND DON’T DO. JUST DO YOUR SHARE.

You said everything I was about to say.
Who gives a fuck about “street cred”. Street cred doesnt put food on anyones table or clothes on anyones back.
The day when having “street cred” pays, then holla at me.

So, I will expect him to stop spreading that childish smut he calls “the greatest flow in the world”? And I’ll also expect him no to talk endlessly about this as if it’s promotion for some sort of future venture….

Jay Z has been endorsing Barack since the primaries, and doing his tour with Mary he always asked the crowd are u ready for changed showed Barack Obama pictures, and encouraged ppl to vote.
And props to Jay Z on the Water 4 Life campaign, we will find anyway to criticize ppl and say they are not doing enough its sickening, what are u doing besides typing on a blog abt the contribution of others. When will we realize to not discredit others for actually doing good work, I followed Jay Z Water for Life campaign and saw his documentary (watch the documentary #19, cause u will see Jay Z does actually get his hands dirty), and it encouraged me to start a foundation at my community center about the devastating issues, did you know more ppl die from waterborne diseases than AIDS, waterborne diseases is the number one global killer.

# 19 ALLOW ME TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION..I BELIEVE YOU ASKED WHY IS JAY SO RECOGNIZED? WELL THIS IS ONLY ONE REASON WHY…SO DO YOUR RESEARCH FROM NOW ON…IT WILL BE VERY BENEFICIAL TO YOU SWEETIE..
NEW YORK — When Jay-Z talks, his words reverberate all around the world.
On Wednesday morning (August 9), he held a press conference at the United Nations building with U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan, MTV President Christina Norman and others to announce a partnership aimed at bringing attention and relief to the many parts of the world where lack of safe drinking water is destroying communities and lives.
On his international tour, which begins next month, Jay will travel to several areas affected by the water crisis. His experiences will be documented by MTV for a special, “Diary of Jay-Z: Water for Life,” airing November 24.
The special will follow Jay’s learning process as he meets people who are among the 1 billion worldwide without access to safe drinking water. It will also follow Jay as he visits places where sustainable, environmentally friendly solutions are under way to bring fresh water to devastated communities.
“It’s a huge responsibility, and humbling at the same time,” Jay said, after the conference, about the role he’s taking on. “I wanted to go to these [countries I've never visited before] to just tour and play music. Of course, I can’t go to any place without touching the culture and seeing what’s going on. When you start getting down to Africa and places like that, you see that billions of people don’t have access to water.”

I can’t believe that someone could find something negative to say about this post,
@ 19….You obviously dont kno all the things that this man has done. Clearly you need to google some info before you post a comment like that. And I don’t understand this “sell-out” ish. So I guess you’re not suppose to grow? You should be doing the same thing at 40 that you were doing at 20? PLEASE!!!
And I don’t kno much about street cred….but this man sells out concerts in the matter of minutes.
Last thing…..Jay-Z will be legendary, and BEYONCE will be legendary. THEY DID THAT!!!!

This seems like such a prestigous award. It just doesn’t seem like Jay would be worthy of it. A water crisis? I mean its definitely a cause worthy of recognition, but, Jay hasn’t committed his life to helping the people of Africa & their water supply. This award should go to someone like Wyclef or a person that’s dedicated more than 3 years to a serious cause.
But whatever, congrats on the award anyway…

I agree with everyone who understands that to say someone does not do enough, means nothing if your not doing something yourself.
If your not part of the solution………..then your part of the problem!

Unfortunately I don’t have fame & $300+ million dollars to draw attention to the work that I do, do in my own community. I just feel like they’re rewarding Jay for being a major black entertainer as oppose to the charity that he supports. There are too many other black celebs that are more worthy of this award than Jay. To the best of my knowledge, Jay-z has only been active in for the past what—3 years? And to you, that’s a viable reason to give an award to him? I’m sorry I just don’t agree w/ that logic. In fact I’m beginning to wonder if these celebs pay for these “awards”. I’m not trying to take away from anything that he’s done for the black community or any other charity that he’s involved in, but, I just don’t feel that he’s worthy of such a prestigious award.

@ # 40…I’m going to first off shine light on two key things you said in your post…
FIRST.. you said UNFORTUNATELY..yes it is unfortunate that you don’t have the wealth however, you can have that opportunity if you were to focus some of your negativity on something your good at doing other than commenting on things half-azzed…
SECONDLY ..YOU CLAIM YOU AREN’T TRYING TO TAKE ANYTHING FROM ANYTHING JAY HAS DONE FOR THE BLACK COMMUNITY…Guess what? That’s exactly what you are doing here…
Please GET REAL!

@Sigh* I just don’t feel that he’s worthy of such a prestigious award.
^^^ its a good thing that jay-z or nobody in the fucking world gives a shit what you feel… what have you done in your life to say whether someone is worthy for an award or not… you obviously are ignorant to jay-z charities and dont like him so why the fuck are you on her commenting on him get a life…

#19, what are you talking about, did you not see his special on mtv? Get your facts straight. He is much respected in Brooklyn. Get out of here, where the hell are you from. This guy has turned his whole life around, now he is helping others. I think that shows alot in a person. What do you want him to do, give you a personal check? Shut up and get your facts straight. Wtf street credibility..puh-leeze, come on focus on the postive let go of the negative.
