Her last album B-day was not all that, although she took a different approach. I think the original version of “If I were a boy” is better. The original is by BC Jean, it is an up-tempo rock ballad(She also wrote it). I don’t think Beyonce’s voice formatted well over that song.I love Miss Bee, I have paid to see her in concert many times. I just want to hear something completely different from her.She has versatility, but it isn’t showing on these songs in my opinion.I just need to hear the rest of the album. It seems as if she’s trying too hard, both vocally and content-wise.

I liked if I were a boy, haven’t heard the original, but I thought it was simple, had a message and displayed some vocal range for her. Kinda reminded me of Flaws and all, which I really liked too. Would love it to hear it performed as an acoustic. As for Put a ring on it? Didn’t like it at all. Fair enough it’s geared more for clubs but I felt it was empty, she was hardly singing and the production was just a mess to me. No doubt both will be a success though.

Personally I would love to hear her music ‘maturing’ a bit more in terms of perspective and themes, a bit more like Alicia Keys or Mary J. I’m not saying she should emulate either of them; just I’d like to hear her be a bit more varied lyrically and maybe go for older markets. Of course she’s selling in the millions right where she is so…

Anyway, I’d like to hear more of her album.

If you’re a huge fan of hers I dont care. Be the best fan you can be. I’m not even though I like some of her songs. She is one of the most swagger jacking artists out there. She imitates so, so, so many other artists, (Jennifer Hudson with Listen, Shakira, Rhianna, Tina Turner, etc. I don’t have time to go through the long list) till she probably does not know who SHE is. Despite that, she’s still hot, but I believe the flames are gonna burn out sooner than she expects.

I have listened to both songs and they both feel like something is missing. I think maybe it’s because I expect so much from Beyonce. The “Boy” song is not my style, but I’m sure some people will love it. I was just really bored by it. She sounded great, though. As for “Single Ladies” I agree that the hand claps or whatever are very get me bodied-ish, but a good video should help this one grow on me.

Overall I wasn’t expecting these two songs as her first single choices. They don’t really sound progressive or different from everything else out there right now. When Deja Vu, and Crazy in Love came out they were both big, and had distinctive sounds that I immediately loved. I’m sure that the album will have huge sales and she will give great live performances..I just can’t wait to hear what else she has up her sleeve.

I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not Beyonce that irritates me, it’s her sycophantic fans who salivate over her every fart. Now, I have to say I really like If Was A Boy… to say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. I’m just glad I listened to it before Single Ladies as that song is exactly what I thought If I Was A Boy was going to sound like i.e. repetitive and unimaginative. That said, If I Was A Boy is territory Beyonce should consider making her medium ground as she sounds real for a change and it shows that she is actually capable of some soulful heartfelt restraint… the result is her voice is allowed to breathe and she sounds good. In conclusion If I Was A Boy = A+, Single Ladies = D-

I liked BC Jean version better than beyonce. It just fits her voice better for some reason. I would have rather Jean kept the song for herself than for beyonce to sing it.

BC Jean is the original songwriter and performer of this song. The original is so much more AMAZING. Look her up. Beyonce does a nice job, but I think the girl who wrote and did the song originally is creative and extraordinary. If I Were A Boy is Irreplacable 2 and Single Ladies is a far worse version of Get Me Bodied, with the UH OH’s from Crazy In Love. For some reason I was expecting something very different?

These songs sound very predictable, especially “If I were a boy”. Very formulaic radio friendly songs. For all the hoopla with her statement, I was really expecting something that was a departure. But then again, I wasn’t exactly anxiously awaiting her new single so I guess I’m probably more indifferent than anything. I think I’ve officially outgrown her music (even though she and I are only a year or two apart), but judging by the amount of comments she’s received, she’s clearly still very relevant so I better be prepared to hear those songs on the radio, everyday allday!

BTW. I thought “Deja Vu” was a much more mature and interesting single. I know people trashed it when it came out, but I think that and “Green Light”, are probably her two best songs (aside from “Crazy in Love”) ever.

Doesn’t make it a bad song, just I wasn’t feeling it. “Single Ladies” sounds like many songs she has done before. The little sing-song hook and the uhh ohh has been done many times before. All and all I’m sure she will do well. I just was expecting more from her.
