EVENTS: TYLER PERRY MAKES HISTORY; OPENS UP STUDIO
Monday, October 6, 2008
Tyler Perry made history this weekend when he opened the doors to the first-ever African American-owned major television and movie studio. Perry’s new studio will be located in Atlanta, GA, and occupies the building that Delta airlines once called its headquarters.
Perry celebrated his accomplishment with a lavish celebration that featured a guest list of who’s who among African American celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Ruby Dee, Sidney Poitier and more! Guests sipped on champagne and were treated to performances by Mary J. Blige (no photos of her for some odd reason), Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle. Fireworks capped off the evening’s festivities.
Perry spoke to the crowd that was gathered to honor his accomplishment, and payed his respects to living legends attending the soiree by dedicating soundstages at the studio to Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee and Cicely Tyson.

Bravo! This is but a first step for Black people in America to take back, own and control our own “image” and how we are to be portrayed in the Television and Film industries. A first step…yet, a very significant one indeed.

I just read on another site that some writers that TP fired are picoting his party (?) or maybe its the sitcom. Either way, that’s messed up that TP refused them benefits & was only willing to give meager wages for their work on “House of Payne”, which btw I felt was shittest sitcom I’ve ever seen.
Hopefully now, he’ll be able to produce some better films.

I originally wrote this man off because of his cross-dressing but I have to admit that his movies are often very good, and very pertinent. I still believe, scratch that, know that this man is a hom*sexual because that is just how Hollywood gets down. You cannot get the white jews to invest in you unless you are a homo, but at least he is attempting to drop some type of message in his films. I see that Oprah inflated her Steadman-bot mechanized doll for this occasion and programmed it to follow her dutifully as always.

Tyler Perry’s movies are so stereotypical and non important..nice he is opening a studio, but if he going to put out the typical crappy movies…then it’s not going to help black actors, writers, or directors to be taken seriously
I notice that the 2 best black actors in Hollywood…
Denzel and Forrest Whitaker are missing…
I doubt they would ever do a silly Tyler Perry movie..

@ # 34 may i ask what does homosexuality have to do with anything?????? If he is GAY please tell me how his sexual orientation affects his craft and work ethic? How would him being gay affect the fact that he is doing a lot for african americans in Hollywood right now? If he is gay SO WHAT? what are u? Have u ever lied before? Have u ever taken anything before that wasnt yours? Have u ever lusted for someone of the opposite sex while being married? Or are u having sex before marriage? If you have then u are a liar, a theif, an adulterer and/or fornicator! Doesnt feel too good when da tables are turned does it? My point is that if ur saying Tyler Perry is a bad person just becuz he might be gay then u aint NO BETTER cuz ALL SIN IS EQUAL… THERE IS NO SIN GREATER THAN THE OTHER!!!!!!!!

Why does everyone always say that Tyler’s movies are stereotypical? He may not be the most prolific writer but there are plenty of black people out there that behave exactly the way Tyler depicts them. Most stereotypes are rooted in some truth. White writers and directors have been inaccurately representing black people for decades now. At least Tyler has experience with black people.
As far as his work hurting other black screenwriters, that is BS. Tyler’s scripts were passed over by most mainstream studios which is why he did it his own way. Most mainstream studios reject black scripts of ALL kinds and don’t give a damn about what black people think.
This is why Tyler’s success benefits ALL blacks in the industry. Once you have an alternative to the mainstream, folks start paying attention.
If you are truly talented and work hard you will make it, regardless of how “stereotypical” Perry’s movies may be.

@Trevor
Damn, lol. You were so mad you sent me the same dumb message twice. Brother, do me and yourself a favor. If you happen to be a hom*sexual, that is your business. This is America (New Rome/Sodom) and you have the right to be a sodomite here until this land is destroyed. Don’t ever attempt to bring the Word of the Lord into the depths of hell to match your confused and confusing mindstate. I have more respect for the homos that just don’t believe in the Word and just do them. I detest this new age gay friendly church doctrine and reasoning that you pathetic clowns attempt to use to justify doing what you want. You stand for nothing, you were never taught to stand for anything, and that is why you justify evil now.
You devils run to James 2:10 and try desperately to bastardize the scripture but you only end up condemning yourselves. That scripture says that we are to try to KEEP every law, not break every law because we carnally can’t keep every law. If you just break every law, you frustrate the grace that Christ gave us (Rom 6:15). What was Paul talking about in Roman 1:25-32? Don’t you know that your ass would be burned alive 2000 years ago? Men can’t even bring children into this world because everyone is more concerned about teaching little black boys that it’s alright to be a damn sodomite than it is to be a man (Prov 17:15, Isa 5:20, Mal 3:13-15). Should we not “judge” pedophiles, murderers, and rapists because they cannot control themselves? Get out of here with that demonic b.s. you damn clown ass negro. You think that Christ is going to give you a hug in the kingdom and point you to the gay-friendly section in New Jerusalem, lol? Christ said to bring his enemies before him and slay them (Luke 19:27).
The pertinence of Tyler Perry, Will Smith, etc. being homos*xual is that Satan has a strait gate just like the Most and and Christ do. The same way that Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, etc. achieved greatness by keeping the laws of the Lord in a righteous kingdom; in order to achieve success in a wicked society like America, you must break the laws of the Most High (Eph 5:11,12). This is what these men have done and will continue to do (II Tim 3:13). This is why you, as a gay-ass negro, will get more respect in this society than a regular black male.

As previous posters have said this is a good move, BUT we need to be vigilant to be sure that Tyler is producing the types of movies that go beyond stereotypes about black people. His creation has a lot of potential and I hope he chooses to use it wisely.

I saw that movie sis. I’m not trying to get off the topic but that was the WORST Spike Lee film that I’ve ever seen, by far. By far. The battle seen was good, and Michael Ealy was very good. The rest was garbage, especially that overgrown, retarded, teddy bear negro, that played simple for the little white boy. I was ready to leave the theatre when the white boy licked the dude’s face and said, “You don’t taste like chocolate.”. Terrible. Now “Lakeview Terrace”. That was fire.
