Guess who hosted a slam poetry event in NYC on Wednesday night? Hint: She’s been acting since she was 5 years old..
It’s Jurnee Smollett! The actress attended a night of slam poetry presented by BET News’ YOU(th) VOTE! At Nuyorican Cafe on October 22, in New York City.
Smollett who advocates for various causes, is on the Board of Directors of the group Artists for a New South Africa, dedicated to dealing with HIV/AIDS in Africa. She was recently awarded the Tavis Smiley Youth Advocate award for her work with various charities.

I’m going to have to agree with some of the other posters. She’s not that pretty. She’s getting a pass simply because she has fair skin and soft-textured hair. I promise ya’ll if that same face was posted with darker skin, you people would be going on about how unattractive she is and how she looks like Shrek (because she sort of does). For women, when their skin is darker, their beauty is judge based on their features. When a woman’s skin is fair, she’s usually granted a “pretty pass” regardless of her facial features. I’ve seen it way too many times
