In the November issue of Vibe, Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama urges readers to vote, saying “We are at a defining moment in our history.” He continues..
“I am running for president to take this country in a new direction. But I can’t do it alone. I need you. Whether it’s the first time, or the first time in a long time, I need you to register and vote on November 4.”
This marks the first presidential endorsement ever made by the magazine and Obama’s second Vibe cover. Editor-in-Chief Danyel Smith writes, “…I am clear about what must be done. The staff is behind me. This is a formal endorsement, by VIBE magazine, of Senator Barack Obama…”
VIBE magazine’s November 2008 issue will be available on newsstands nationwide on October 21st.

Okay now I definitely getting this mag. Does any know if you voted in the primaries do you have to register again?
Obama is hitting from all angles! Now he has to tie it all in with the hispanic and Jewish communites!
@ #7 (OB4PRES) – no, you should not have to re-register if you voted in the primaries. When in doubt, contact your state’s board of elections.
I still have the VIBE issue with him on the cover from like early 2007, after I read that I knew i was voting for him!
Get registered and FIND YOUR POLLING PLACE! make arrangements, vote early or absentee if you can bc everybody and they cat will be out on Nov. 4th!!
@ 7
No, unless you have moved since then and will only need to update
This burns me up.First Gwen Ifill who works of PBS ( AS I DO) and now vibe. How can the people make their own informed choice when folks ( Media Outlets ) putting in their two sence and being bais. Its if you come out and say I am unbais and will run a mag as such then you have no business endosing people. Time is not going to endorse, Newsweek is not going to endorse, and thought they may be hard on some than others they try to present both sides. That why main stream media dosent take us serious. We dont take each other serious. I dont read Vibe just another reason why I wont start.
I am going early voting I am excited
…Yeah and just remember to register.
Honestly, all of this hype in magazines like Vibe is irrelevant if it doesn’t occur to AVERAGE JOES that registration is your key to voting. Why do entertainers get so involved with all this? I mean of course they can vote for whoever they want to, but it diverts attention from the important issues of this election. Stop turning politics into some Hollywood sideshow. Regular folks should form their opinions watching the news or reading newspapers or something. Just putting T-shirts and banners over celebrities in order to get people to vote seems like a very expensive gimmick. What will happen when the ignorant in society get so caught up and starstruck in seeing some rapper or baller endorsing Obama, only to miss the deadline for registration?! Think about it.
WATCH OUT & PASS IT ON!
The story is all over Progressive Talk Radio today about the McCain
campaign sending absentee ballot applications to registered democrats or people
that have donated to Obama’s campaign. These ballots are deliberately misleading
and have postage paid return addresses that are for an election clerk that
is outside of your city or town. What this will end up doing is either
having your vote not counted, or if you return one of these, they will cite you
for election fraud, saying that you already voted absentee. These ballots
are only being sent out in ‘purple states’ and this is a big deal.. This is
called voter caging, and is a huge problem.
The McCain campaign is stealing this election as we speak.
Please get this information out to as many people as you can ,and tell
anyone you know who has received one of these ballots that they need to contact their city
election clerk or the supervisor of elections immediately. Also call the local
media and let them know what is going on. The main stream media is never going
to cover this so we have to depend on our ground campaign to get the word
out to our voters.
Big Ups to VIBE for focusing on something important for ONE month!!!

he so sexy…lol
Thx guys. I have the one when he was on the cover too, I think I have bought most magazines with him and his family on the cover with the exception of Rollingstone and some weeklies.
Vibe is not relevant.
Sorry you have no influence. Half naked woman on the cover one month, next month making political endorsements. Can we get a black media outlet of substance at all.
I love this cover!!
It’s so raw and the I like the way the photo was taken
I love you Obama!!
@JA
First off what is your problem? If any magazine inspires people to register to VOTE that is a great thing. And there are many magazines that support Barack Obama outside of Vibe. GQ, Vogue, Men’s Vogue, and Rolling Stone just to name a few.
And your Gwen Ifill comment is WAY off. She can conduct a debate in a nonbiased way so what is your point there? I love how conservatives attack her when it’s been public knowledge since this summer that she was doing a book based on Race and Politics one chapter is dedicated to Barack Obama. The last debate was conducted by an obvious liberal so what is your point? I love how the media attack Gwen because she is African American as if she can’t be objective. NONSENSE!
Vibe is doing a great thing. Nothing is more important than for African Americans to get registered and Vote and this Election is the perfect REASON to get registered.
Better Barack Obama on the cover than Beyonce. Vibe has it straight!
We need this man is office right now.
You don’t have to tell me! I got you Obama!! Big up to Vibe but I was voting Obama/Biden anyway! lol
AND LETS MAKE SURE TO WATCH SARAH PALIN LOOK LIKE AN EVEN BIGGER IDIOT TONIGHT!!! I was going to rent a comedy tonight but this’ll be much better….and funnier….and free! lol
AND LETS MAKE SURE TO WATCH SARAH PALIN LOOK LIKE AN EVEN BIGGER IDIOT TONIGHT!!! I was going to rent a comedy tonight but this’ll be much better….and funnier….and free! lol
Gwen Ifill wrote a book about not only Senator Obama, but about prominent Republicans and Democrats who were black. Conservatives are right now trying their best to save face by any means necessary. Ifill may be the only one who gives Palin actual questions to answer instead of, “Hey, how does it feel to be from Alaska?”
I agree with Chris, Ja! That’s why it’s called America. People can read, endorse, or vote for whomever they want. Do you really think that Americans’ would listen solely to the media to make a sound decision? We’re not that cheesy!
Shit thats wassup Obama all day
That’s a good look
LOVE THE FIRST COVER. THATS HOT!!
This cover would have been better for the Nov., issue.
On a serious note: For the last 2 elections the Democrats have won the popular vote, but lost the election. Does it really matter if millions of people register & vote on Nov., 4th?
LMAOO @ 27/28!!!
GET EM!!!!!!! OBAMA!!!!!
Be Real Harris/Fenty ’08
Let’s get out there folks, things have to change NOW!!!
well considering its almost the deadline for most ppl, they should have put this on stands a month or two back but hopefully better now than never.
who cares if obama is black, im black and nobodys makin a big deal about it
the race thing is so overrrated
I will be copping this issue of VIBE. I agree with CHRIS, well said. There is absolutely nothing wrong and everything right about VIBE or any other group, newspaper, magazine, celebrity, or everyday joe endorsing OBAMA or the candidaie of their choice. This is America, freedom of speech, expression, of the press etc. At the end of the day people have their own minds. Some people really should lighten the hell up. This is such an exciting time. This is history in the making. GO OBAMA!!!!!!
****** I’m a Canadian and a lot of us in Canada are routing for Obama/Biden. We even have groups and websites called “Canadians for Obama”. We also have lots of Americans living in Canada, so they would be absentee voters.
What happens in the United States of America is so important to not only our Country (since we’re like cousins) but also affects what happens around the world. Tonight I watched the VP Debate between Senator Biden and Governor Palin… The sad thing is I missed my own Canadian English Debate (We’re having elections on Oct 14th) and will have to go to http://www…electionscanad.ca to find out what platforms the Candidates stand for. But I’m also a nut case and I’m watching both Countries Elections and Candidates.
** It’s funny, a few of my friends and colleagues were just saying how Americans get so much media coverage when they have elections and here in Canada, we barely hear anything until the last minute or we have do some serious digging….?? WTF.
Anyhow, I have lots of family and friends who are American citizens and I’ve been doing everything I can to encourage all my friends and families abroad to register and vote. Doesn’t matter who you are voting for but if you don’t register and vote, you have no vice. 1 person CAN make a difference.
That being said “Canadians for Obama/08!
Peace, Love and Blessings
******* Oh Yeah and VIBE ROCKS!! Love the cover and Love the message. OBAMA/BIDEN 08********
Peace
