MINI-ROUNDUP: BEYONCE COVERS ESSENCE / PARIS BENNETT WELCOMES BABY GIRL

Beyonce Knowles-Carter covers the latest issue of Essence Magazine and spoke on her relationship with Jay-Z, her spirituality and more. Check out these snippets we got from out friends over at BROWN-SISTA.

ON JAY-Z

What Jay and I have is real. It’s not about interviews or getting the right photo op. It’s real..

ON HER LEGACY

I don’t want to be remembered as a member of this huge group that, you know, did whatever. I want to be acknowledged as a woman in a very talented group with great harmonies and great songs that made history and changed the culture of women, not only in America but all over the world. (A woman) who could sing a cappella and write her own songs and produce her own songs.

Paris Bennett WELCOMES BABYGIRL

Paris Bennett (from American Idol fame) welcomed her daughter Egypt Bennett into the world on Monday, October 6th.

Bennett was in labor for 5 hours with her baby girl who weighed 5 pounds 15 ounces. The proud first time mother is doing well and recovering. Paris’ mother Jamecia Bennett and her family is filled with excitement and welcomes their bundle of joy.

Paris says, “I’m so excited to finally see my little angel and man does she have lungs on her I guess she’s gearing up to be the next American Idol.”

Paris will also release “A Royal Christmas” her first Christmas CD on October 14.

  1. Sweetness

I heard her song “If i were a Boy”, I like the original version better. Not feeling this one. She is a talented singer though.

  2. Shanice

    Beyonce is the shit!
Congrats Paris….I still think you should’ve won American Idol!

  3. Meat

    …. @4….BEAUTY Q.T.

….I guess I’ll believe “it’s real” when I hear Jay Z step up to the microphone! For so
….long, he kept her hanging by a thread. She was looking down and hiding her face.
….Now, all of a sudden, “it’s real.” Real love is something that can only be proven by
….the test of time. Not, from a “secret wedding” and “business as usual”. There’s
….nothing wrong with interviews and photo ops. Maybe the “low key” is a fear of
    ….failure.

  4. @ MEAT, on “Upgrade U”, she said that she would keep his name out of the streets and I see she’s doing just that. True, they are no Will and Jada, or Bobby and Whitney, but their relationship it is what it is. Hey, she never said that she was happy…

I can not believe you called that man a drug dealer. Wow after all he has accomplished that’s how you address him. Wow but I bet the minute a Jay song come on you bopping your heads and know the words. Wow the way black people do one another is so crazy to me! We have the most racism amongst ourselves! What in the world did Jay or Beyonce do to any of you? if you dont like them keep moving turn the station ignore them, that’s what i do but to say the ignorant things that you people are saying are horrible! grow up! and check your own front lawn before all the hate.

  6. guessit

Personally for me, I dont think there is song that I would sing 10-20 years from now that came out of DC.

  7. daddy-d

Beyonce has come such a long way who would have thought Jay-z would have been the man to sweep her off her feet.I’m hating

  8. Sonny

I don’t really feel like she will be remembered as part of a “group of women” as she put it. Through most of the group’s years, it was hard to pick any voices but Beyonce’s creating those talked about harmonies and parts. Maybe “The Writing’s on the Wall” and “Destiny Fulfilled” tried to highlight the sounds of the other girls, but for the most part, it was the Beyonce show. This is more than likely while my 9 year old niece referred to the group as “Beyonce and them” during their popularity.

  9. mel

if jay n bey’s relationship is so real then why was it such a big secret when they got married? i think their relationship is more business…but i wont be buying another one of her albums in the future.

  10. Missjoy29483

I think Bey is already a legend. Just with all that she has done and accomplished. I really like MOST of her songs. Even when she was with DC. Paris….hmmm. Named her baby Egypt. What’s next, Australia? Norway? I don’t know why we choose these ghetto names….I guess when you are a star, you can do whatever. Hell, Gwenyth Paltrow named her daughter Apple….

  11. Tealeaf

I don’t like that cover, I don’t think she will be a legend…because her music is fun, but it’s not more than romantic and dance songs,, it’s not groundbreaking or intelligent music

Good answer about her private..Iam not interested in what her Jay-Z do at home

  12. Tealeaf

Iam SO sick of the word hater being used in the wrong context…. if someone doesn’t say how awesome or great your favorite celeb is.their a “hater”

A hater.. is someone like Hitler

if you want to know what hate really is…Read about the middle passage, the Holocause or the Genocide Rawanda

    ….

  13. Shana

She should have smiled with her eyes on that cover. She always looks like a deer in headlights on magazine covers.

  14. symone91

Beyonce is never going to be a legend. Regradless how many commercials she appears in or who she’s married to. If you think about black, female singers that are actual legends, I think about women like Patti Labelle. Patti has been singing since before I was born and she continues to get paid today. She has had staying power all these years because she can actually sing – she is not a studio singer. I even think about Mary J. Blige, who has been in the game a long time and will continue to be around for years to come. Beyonce has always made cutesy songs with catchy lyrics. IMO, she is doing herself a disservice by still singing the stupid songs she has been singing since she came on the scene. It’s time to start singing grown-up songs for grown ass women. She’s too old to sing the bubble gum songs, and when i say she’s too old, I’m referring to her real age, not that make believe age to appeal to a younger audience.

  15. jeyla

    loooooooooooooooooove beyonce. love the song.

  16. Chris

    Beyonce….give it up!

    First off makeup your mind….

I would have more respect for you if you did not talk about your relationship with
    GAY Z.

This is not a relationship made out of “LOVE” it’s all about IMAGE.

Jay needed POP appeal and Bey needed edge and a good writer.
Jay wrote UPGRADE U don’t get it twisted.

Beyonce you are so FAKE. Trying to justify your relationship all the time.

Like Alicia Keys said….If you wanted to eat you know where there are no photographers….But BEY-Z is always photographed doing everything because they want MEDIA ATTENTION.

They NEED media attention. I’m sure that is part of the CONTRACT.

Bey also looks like the LION from the WIZ on the Cover.

    NOT impressed.

  17. Chris

    Beyonce you can’t buy CLASS.

Beyonce also ICON’s don’t marry drug dealers.

And ICONS don’t write trashy songs like Bootylicious…..LMAO

The best thing about Beyonce is that she knows she is NOT an ICON but the public also knows that.

  18. Ladyssolady

#20, I agree w/you. There is nothing exciting about babies being born and people not being married. I was raised that it’s nothing to be proud of. I’m still tripping over somewhere I read that Paris’s mom said that she and the family were proud of her! What!!!

  19. UrbanChic

No, J-Lo’s career went to a standstill because she married a man that was of her ethnicity. Remember, J-Lo was pushing that I’m a minority, but white enough to pass crap. Beyonce has never done that. She has always been herself, but I must say, I’m not liking the new look. I like it on this cover, but if you look at another post it looks kind of, I don’t know. But, I’m glad to see her back, and I expect great things.

  20. FallBackHaters

    Beyonce rocks my boat!

  21. Keisha

There is nothing cute about being a single teen aged parent. I am not being judgemental by any means. 73% of African AMerican households are single parent households. This is 2008. Condoms. Birth control. Use it.

  22. Neena

But the beeyotch don’t write her own songs!! LOL.. the Oscars shut her down.. Neyo, Des’ree put her on blast for trying to steal credit for just adding harmonies!!

Unless she’s talking about the timeless classics like Bootylicious.. for which she cringes when she hears the word that she helped create by shaking her ass!! SMH

  23. Ladyssolady

#81, thank you! There is too much birth control out here for people to be getting caught up!

  24. Jscene

COPIED THIS FROM A POPULAR NON-URBAN BLOG, SOCIALLITELIFE.COM:

MTV is reporting on an interview that Beyonce gave Essence in which the hamhocked beauty finally admits that she is indeed Mrs. Jay-Z.

It turns out that Beyonce is ultra-private because she’s overly impressed with her pop-culture status. Seriously, she feels that she’s up there with private people like Prince and Michael Jackson (?!?). She says that Mr. and Mrs. Hova plot every detail together on what to tell the press.

Beyaki says her day was small and intimate because she’s so damn unselfish. She says that she’s had enough red carpets and premieres that “it’s been my day so many days already.” She didn’t even want an engagement ring.

“People put too much emphasis on that. It’s just material, and it’s just silly to me,” she said.

Well, there ya have it. She’s a married woman. And she’s finally talking about it. Right around the time that her new single is coming out. She should really be heading up our efforts in Iraq.

THIS JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT EVERYONE ISN’T CLUELESS…IT IS WHAT IT IS, AND ALL THIS CANDOR AND TALKING BEYONCE IS DOING IS TO GET YOUR MONEY….SHE COULD CARELESS ABOUT HER FANS, IT’S ALL ABOUT MORE MONEY AND MORE FAME….ANY OTHER DAY, NONE OF THIS INFORMATION WOULD HAVE BEEN ANYONE’S BUSINESS….BUT NOW OF COURSE, SHE NEEDS YOU TO BUY THIS CD, SO OF COURSE, SHE’S WILLING TO FEED YOU MORE LIES…..FAKEST BROAD IN THE INDUSTRY.

  25. SMH

    BLACK WOMEN:

Quit having illegitimate babies all over the place.

    Seriously.

  26. tif

This chick is delusional! Bey’s songs do not change history! That is what Alicia Keys is for sweetheart! You will always be known for having big hips and dropping and rolling on the floor! and stop lying about writing and producing, cause everyone knows that you take credit for other people’s work … I am so sick of this girl lying. her talent is there, but damn change the culture of women Bey? By doing what? This chick is trying so hard to be considered a legend and icon, but real legends do not have to announce that they want to be legends, they become legends by being deserving of it! Get it together sis!

  27. irrational rationalist

    #10…hater!

  28. Sarah

OMG here we go with all this Beyonce vs every chick in the game why do her stans always say idiotic things like Ri Ri better back off she ain’t better then Beyonce or none of these females can touch Beyonce no bodies even trying to compete with her all of these beautiful natural singers are just trying to follow their dreams just like her so chill! To much competition in this world that;s how I know GOD’s coming for sure.

  29. Elle'

Beyonce looks great her new singles are hot…Paris and the baby good…I guess I’m not to hot on the teen pregnancy thing!!!
