POLITICS: BARACK OBAMA - American Stories, American Solutions / NAACP SUES OVER VA ELECTION PREP / PALIN KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE ISSUES

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

The Obama-Biden campaign ran a 30-minute TV ad, which was shown simultaneously on various broadcast and cable networks Wednesday night. The video is above, in case you missed it.

NAACP SUES OVER VA ELECTION PREP

The Virginia NAACP sued Gov. Tim Kaine and state election officials, claiming the state is “inadequately prepared” for the record number of voters expected to turn out next week.

The suit says state officials have not set up enough polling places: “The allocation of polling place resources is plainly irrational, non-uniform and likely discriminatory.” Additionally, the suit cites the 2004 presidential election in which there were too few polling places which led to long lines and some voters being turned away.

PALIN KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THE ISSUES

Nicolle Wallace, a senior McCain aide, said there is an ‘organized campaign to lay blame’ at her for the recent back-and-forth between McCain aides and those of Sarah Palin. Wallace, however, has kept quiet about a few things that other McCain top aides have leaked to GQ correspondent Robert Draper.

He writes:

I’m sympathetic to Eskew and Wallace, and not just because they’re decent people. They’ve held their tongue from leaking what a couple of McCain higher-ups have told me–namely, that Palin simply knew nothing about national and international issues. Which meant, as one such adviser said to me: “Letting Sarah be Sarah may not be such a good thing.” It’s a grim binary choice, but apparently it came down to whether to make Palin look like a scripted robot or an unscripted ignoramus. I was told that Palin chafed at being defined by her discomfiting performances in the Couric, Charlie Gibson, and Sean Hannity interviews. She wanted to get back out there and do more. Well, if you’re Eskew and Wallace, what do you say to that? Your responsibility isn’t the care and feeding of Sarah Palin’s ego; it’s the furtherance of John McCain’s quest for the presidency.

McCain and Palin sat down for their first joint interview, following reports that Palin is going “rogue”. Check out the full interview below:

Following Maria Bartiromo’s statement that she’d like to ask how their partnership is going and how unified they are, the live segment was cut and Mark Haines and Erin Burnett had to explain that the campaign stipulated that the live portion of the interview be five minutes.

Did anyone else catch the tax cut plan numbers? I could’ve sworn he said he was going to raise taxes on everyone that makes more than $250,000 a year. in the 30 minute special he said $200,000. I’m pretty sure someone is gonna hop on that ASAP.

@What- can you tell me something positive about the McCain/Palin ticket? I am being serious. I am an Obama supporter also but I have been waiting all these months for McCain to tell me something about his economics plan, or what he plans to do to help out the working class people. I am deeply saddened that he has gone the route he has with all the negative campaigning. The old John McCain would have had a plan, but the minute he picked Palin as a VP it’s been down hill all the way and all of his actions since have been questionable.

NOT EASILY IMPRESSED

Thursday, October 30, 2008 /

Missed Obama’s ad…I’m watching pundits cover it now on CNN…But I was skeptical about it…it seems like overkill honestly…and I thought initially it somehow backed up the charge that he’s all celebrity. Not so. It can’t be a bad thing, spreading your message…I’ve loved the pieces I’ve seen so far…and though the music was a bit lalalala I think he did an amazing job…he was really specific and straight forward.
As for Palin, she is NOT qualified to be President or even Vice President and I have the sneaking suspicion that perhaps she isn’t qualified to be Gov…Many have suggested she weasled her way in, running on generalities and her husband basically ran the show. She obviously knows nothing..absolutely nothing and this whole thing has been a shame…especially the insinuation that she might run in 2012…are you kidding me? She’s the future of their party? Well, I’d say your party just imploded… It’s a circus.

That 30 minute final address was brilliantly done. Even though I know Obama was reaching out to die-hards like me (he locked up my vote ever since he announce his candidacy in Illinois), but rather the so called “Undecided” It beats the hell out of me what they are undecided about; either they know deep down they cannot vote for McLame and “Shit for Brains” Palin but even worse, they cannot vote for a Black man; that is what these undecided voters represent.

**Yes, this infomercial was brilliant. He could have even aired this earlier on in his campaign and it would have been **just as effective. I thought I was the only one who heard MLK in his voice. At first I used to think Obama **sounded like the “Rock” which he still does, but more so Like Martin. This commercial was very well put together **and you can tell they took their time and didn’t just throw some BS at us. He gave precise answers on how he **planned on changing our Economy and broken Health Care and creating better schools for our children and tax **cuts etc. What I liked most about this is that it wasn’t all about him. He played his way into each story and it fit **perfectly. And to the one who said there wasn’t one black person in the add must have not seen the whole thing **because there was an older couple he mentioned who owned their home and the husband was around 72yrs **young and his wife had **arthritis and could no longer afford her medication being she had to take about 12 pills a **day so the husband had to go back to work at Wal-Mart and this was even after they had taken loan out on their **home. Each story had it’s uniqueness. One thing is it really saddens me when I hear Obama talk about his mother. **You can tell he’s so heart felt it’s so relatable being I lost my mother to a couple years ago. Obama seems VERY **approachable and relatable. His voice is so soothing and it really makes you feel like he’s talking directly to you **and you can really feel the sense of hope when he speaks. At the end of the segment when he was in Florida and **he was saying how he wanted us (the people) to make some calls for him, knock on some doors for him and walk **with him, he’ll be sure to get this country back on track. The last few minutes of this gave me chills and it actually **brought tears to my eyes because we have truly been blessed to have Obama as our future President and may **god keep him and his family during the hurdles he’ll have to overcome with all the racism that’s out here. Times **he’ll face! Obama is a brilliant man and I can’t wait to see **him in that Oval Office and his children being able to **run down the halls of the WH!!!

for #15…and the 250,000 tax cut vs the 200,000 cut discrepancy on Obama’s commercial/ads etc….
His Tax plan explains that if you make LESS than 250,000 your taxes wont be increased….if you make LESS than 200,000 your taxes will be DECREASED…there is a 50,000 window where tax payers who are in this window wont see an increase or decrease in their taxes…..EVERYONE else OUTSIDE of this window will see a change in their taxes…whether it be increased if you make more than 250k…or decreased if you make LESS than 200k…this is very important for us to know, even if alot of us arent making that much, because its a tactic that the GOP will try to use against Obama and undecided voters to question his integrity….KNOWLEDGE is power folks! Lets use it!!!!

Early voting is so cnvenient, why wait until Nov 4th if you can vote early which just about every state can. Go vote.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE RULES, you have to vote for the presidency separate from the party line vote. SO DON’T just mark DEMO or REP and think that you’re voting for the president of your choice.

When you get past all of the mud slinging and spin… what have McCain or Palin really laid out as their economic plan? nothing. They have floated a hodge podge of suggestions (from a spending freeze, to earmarking 300 billion for mortgage buyouts*socialism*, to not taxing anyone? to taxing health benefits). Their ticket is grasping at straws without one solid stitch of a concrete way to pay for it. McCain has not yet said the word poverty. Much less given any specific examples of how he would combat it. He has NO… understand me NO economic knowledge. My tenth grade son understands the free market system better than he does. Trickle down hasn’t worked since Reagan *and if we are honest, for the middle class it didn’t work then*. Please go back and do a little research.. 1987 stock market crash cause by Regan/Bush failed deregulatory policies. Now please believe we are not in this just for lip service. Obama has proven that he is willing to take sound counsel and will gather intelligence before making decision. We need steady/sound leadership like that…. not that shoot from the hip and hope people buy it crap that McCain is selling. He and Palin can’t even stay on the same message as each other. I definitely don’t want them in-fighting in the white house.

The Infomercial was well done, We need to get out an vote people, this is not going to happen any other way. Now, there are obviously allot of Black folks on this board, we especially need to continue the trend of record turnounts against us, on November 4th.

Its amazing, I was listening to THIS AMERICAN LIFE Podcast this morning and you know in Pennsylvania there are actually Black “Democrats for McCain” that are going around from house to house convincing prejudice white voters that they don’t have to vote for Obama, because McCain is a better choice.

There is something to be said about any African American person who can look at this African American man trying to break the highest, hardest glass ceiling in this country, in the face of subtly coded racism and all-out blatant racism — and support the other candidate.

What’s interesting about Blacks that aren’t supporting Obama, is that they will no-doubt reap the benefits of his Presidency should he be elected to office.

Let me get this straight: you are accusing CL for being biased for supporting Barack Obama?

Any smart publication, blog etc. will pay very close attention to its base. Angel has to ask herself a question in order to keep this website’s viewership high. That one question is “what do my readers want to see/read?”

It is clear that there is a bias here. There is a bias to black culture, hip-hop news, black history & yes, black politics.

99.9% of CL’s vistors are supporting Barack Obama, so then why would you expect the site to shoot themselves in the foot by reporting news that their readers aren’t interested in?

The McCain Palin campaign has been extremely negative lately, tNO NEWS OUTLET has been reporting any GOOD news on McCain’s campaign lately.

Did you watch the special last night or are you just going by what other people told you? You said something to the premise that there were no black people in Obama’s video. Are you serious? If you watched the video you would know that the old couple where the woman who said she has arthritis and her husband, though retired, still has to work at Wal-Mart to cover her medical bills. If you did not notice, they were black. Next time know the facts before you go out on limb that again.

——-under the thumb of the Federal Reserve. Pawns like Obama are put on TV to
——-soothe the fears of the average sheep so that you won’t be ready when that
——-sword comes across your neck. Go back to thinking like one of these women.
——-They love Obama because they believe that he will enable them to get closer to
——-the white man and get more power in this fictitious world that the white man has
——-created. You, like a true simpleton, follow on the coattails of this nonsense.

—–Obama is Malcolm X-esque, LMAO? That shows and reveals alot about how
—–bugged out of your mind you are. I agree with the sisters who said that he is like
—–”Dr.” King. They are/were both 1) hom*sexuals 2) pawns for the socialists 3)
—–pawns for globalization 4) absolutely full of B.S.

Judah aka Terrence:

You have to be kidding me, thats an extreme claim even coming from you. Man I like your songs and some of your other writing, but your political perspective is a bit skewed.

You are not prepared to accuse Barack Obama and Dr. King of being homosexuals? That is a completely unfounded statement. There is nothing wrong with homosexuality — if that is someone’s choice — but I mean, they were/are both married men.

And in case you need to be briefed on King’s indescretions: he was a womanizer, not a closet homosexual.

And if you’ve determined that Obama is gay off the outlandish and now, publicly discredited claims made on Youtube by “Larry Sinclair” then you should research his polygraph results on that story.

Folks, lets get a grip!
