POLITICS: FINAL DEBATE RECAP

83290713.jpg

The final showdown between Sens. Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain was by far the best with more substantive issues and less talking points.

McCain made the event exciting, but Obama made it memorable. McCain knew this was his last chance to reach undecided voters and he came out swinging, which included keeping his promise to bring up William Ayers. Analysts noted how petty that made him look on the day which the Dow Jones had lost 8 percent of its value. Additionally, his eye-rolling, grimacing and smirking illustrated nothing but contempt toward his Democratic rival. It was reminiscent of Al Gore’s sighing during his debate with George Bush in 2000, which many think contributed to his defeat.

Obama remained cool, calm and took every opportunity to change the subject to economics and the woes of the average American. When McCain mentioned Obama’s association with Ayers, Obama used it to his advantage to claim that whom he associates with on economic issues are former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Paul Volcker and successful investor and the world’s richest man Warren Buffett.

Obama continued use of his line that McCain would represent a continuation of Bush’s policies. McCain fired back that he was not Bush, and “if [Obama] wanted to run against Bush, [he] should’ve run four years ago”. McCain’s advisers have been stressing the need to to make that distinction, but it’s unlikely that he made an impression with voters. Major network polls show Obama went three for three following last night’s debate and increased his already high chances of victory.

Hey, I LOVE me some Obama, but at the beginning of the debate I was like “Oh snap!! McCain is pretty much taking it to him” That’s just my opinion. When all was said and done though, Obama came out on top just like he will on Nov. 4th!! OBAMA 08 SON!!!!

When McCain came out with the “..you shouldve ran 4 years ago” about comparing him to G.W. I was like OH SNAP!

All in all it was good. GO OBAMA!

sidenote: McCain’s obsessive blinking annoyed me to no end.

I’m not really into politics and didn’t even go to the polls in my OWN country (Can.) but i watched the debate last night…well was forced by Mr. Man to watch it…and McCain looked soooo childish, petty and illiterate. Every question he answered included a swipe @ Obama. I am very impressed by Obama’s tact and maturity and class….I believe the US, North America, the WORLD would benefit greatly if Obama was in office!!! And not because he shares the same skin color as I do or comes from the same place as my foremothers…he seems to really CARE about his country, ALL people! He DESERVES to be in that dingy old white house..bring some color to it!!

  8. elle

Last night’s debate was the best of the three debates held. Real questions – real responses.

Please VOTE on November 4th! We need change!

    OBAMA ’08!!!!

  9. OB4PRES

Obama came through with the closing talking about the issues, while McMeany, talked about his service it almost sounded like defeat to me. Also, he couldn’t wait to say I’m not PB.

MCCAIN DID HIT HARD THE FIRST 30 MINUTES..BUT HE CAN’T TOUCH THE COOL SWAGGER THAT IS OBAMA!! LOL

OBAMA STAYED COOLER THAN A PIMP IN WINTER…JUST SMILED AND COUNTERATTACKED MCCAIN TO THE VERY END

GAVE OUT FACTS AND CLEARED UP RUMORS…OUTSTANDING JOB!

@ 6: YES!! Y’all need to get up, get out and DO something….VOTE! For the right man to run your country and run it properly! If I had dual citizenship like most Cdns i would vote Obama. Majority of the ‘duals’ here are voting Obama…black AND/OR white!

  13. candikane

GO OBAMA!!!! TEAM OBAMA! PEOPLE, GET OUT AND VOTE! LIKE BARACK SAID “EIGHT IS ENOUGH”!!!

  14. dukesman2000

That debate was by the best of the three. McCain came out hard, but by Obama’s demeanor I knew he had some “zingers” of his own – and sure enough. Obama crushed him on the Ayers issue. He came back pretty good when McCain said, “I am not Bush” Obama said you might not be but your policies are the same. McCain was making all these peculiar facial expressions as if he was constipated. You could tell he was pissed and hates Obama’s guts.

McCain made two big gaffes last night. The first one was when he trivialized women’s health during the topic on abortion rights and the second was when he tried to defend the illiterate supporters at his rallies yelling “Kill him” whenever Obama’s name comes up. That was most disturbing to me.

  15. The debate was good. I noticed that they did less “pointing fingers” and went into a little more depth when addressing economic issues, which is the most important thing. McCain is all about pointing fingers, where as Barack defends himself by stating his intentions for America. I liked it when Barack explained why he agreed and disagreed with some of the points made by McCain. It’s true-McCain intends to pick up where Bush left off.

“The true test of leadship is not where you start, but where you end up”.

  16. Princess

    McCain is full of bull!!!!!

  17. OB4PRES

He also doesn’t know that his vp son has D.S. not Autism.

  18. Aisha

As this was the last debate, everyone knew that McCain would come out swinging and he did. The first 30 minutes, I must admit that McCain was actually doing well and threw out some zingers at Obama, but of course my man Obama kept his cool and stayed with the issues. Obama did well, as expected. Now it’s time to do our part. Even though most polls say that Obama has the lead in the election, we MUST go out and vote on election day. Everyone’s voice must be heard so we can change this country. Obama 08!!!!

  19. Change- verb,to change one's opinions or intentions

McCain came out swinging but nothing changed he also probably helped a few undecided voters. His body language was tight, he rolled his eyes, he took exasperated breathes… he showed signs that he was pissed or shook more like “this nigga here”. McCain remained on the attack he was visibly hurt when he spoke about O repudiating a statement someone else made as if Obama should have bowed down. But like Obama said “business as usual in politics”

How could M want to overturn Roe v. Wade and say “this is a difficult decision for any woman”? uh you are trying to take away the choice the decision my rights as a woman…. “listen to his words”

Also, McCain waited until now to distance himself from Bush all too late buddy…. McCain got in some good one liners but that was it.

Obama did a great job and has been consistent throughout in MY opinion. 3 weeks left and Obama said “he didn’t mind he’s up for it”…..

  20. GO VOTE

GO VOTE!!! GO VOTE!!! great job obama, he stayed cool calm and collected in the face of an old nervous racist.

  21. ms. complexity

WestIndie…most Canadians do NOT have dual citizenship to the U.S. True, there are Americans up here but you should know the majority of our parents hail from other countries.
    Obama 08

  22. flAwless

OMG! Obama handled hisself very WELL!!! He took the high road, and answer the questions that WE the American people wanted to know =). Now McCain on the other hand was throwing everything at Obama to make him look like a bad guy in this debate; Guess what McCain…IT DID WORK!!!! You helped us out!!! WE MOVIN UP TO THE WHITE HOUSE!!! George and Weezy style LOL

THANKS A LOT MCCAIN BECAUSE THE LAST THREE DEBATES WERE PRICELESS!!!!

PLEASE EVERYONE GET OUT AND VOTE!

    OBAMA ’08!!!!!!!!

  23. Fran Gadson

    obama ’08 & ’12

  24. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go VOTE it is imperative.

  25. Ms. Kim

I am addicted to CNN right now!! I love Senator Barack Obama he represents African Americans very well. Senator Barack Obama keeps his cool and do not let Mccain’s ignorance bother him. During the debates and attacks on his life he has remained calm and he does not let any fear or agitation show which is the behavior of a true president.

  26. Wendell

    Bottom line —

This campaign is over, Obama is the new President of the United States. A 14 point lead in the polls prior to the debate, and all sign’s showing that Obama won this one as well, only leads to another poll bounce for Obama.

McCain, close out this campaign with dignity and return to the Senate. We’ll need you working there to help our President end this war, and fix the economy.

  27. flAwless

Oh who the hell is JOE THE PLUMBER and JOE SIXPACK??? Because they sure as heck don’t represent ME!!! They are not understanding my STRUGGLE or my FINANCIAL SITUATION!!!
I’m 22 young woman, I’m STRESSING about my future!!! I should have to do that at this age! and McCain thinks he can lead us to better times??? I THINK NOT!!!
So why not give an INTELLGENT MAN like Obama a chance in the white house…He understands you and me…

  28. This makes NO sense

ITS A DAMN SHAME THAT THIS POST ONLY HAS ONLY 21 COMMENTS … AND BEYONCE NEW VIDEO HAS OVER 500 COMMENTS … SHOWS WERE THE IMPORTANCE IS IN THIS WORLD

  29. AREUREGISTERED2VOTE?

HELL NO ITS NOT OVER…ITS NOT OVER TILL THE VOTES ARE COUNTED!!! POLLS DON’T MEAN SH*T UNLESS PEOPLE GO OUT AND VOTE!!

  30. UM...I GUESS

althought mccain was stronger than he was in the first two debates, OBAMA still won…!

i couldn’t believe some of the mess that was coming out of that man’s mouth! it was so frustrating to watch. that’s probably how obama felt, which is why he was caught smiling so much and making crude gestures (i hope everyone watch CNN, because they were one of the only networks that showed a split screen almost continuously throughout the debate). mccain tried to gain sympathy by talking about a damn apology for others (NOT obama’s) remarks, which were only said b/c of the things that were said FIRST at mccains conventions. ugh, this is such a tireless subject! i just can’t wait until november 4th.

    OBAMA/BIDEN 08

  31. VOTE EARLY

Who is this damn Joe guy? If I hear about Joe one more time. Anyway, I thought the debate was good. John McCain came across as an angry old man. I was really surprised at how he was carrying on. He looked pissed and unstable. The teeth grinding and weird noises was crazy. LOL! As far as responding to the moderator’s questions and making points, I thought that John McCain was all over the place. Barack was cool, calm, collected, specific and direct… extremely presidential. I will be voting for Sen. Barack Obama!!!

    Obama/Biden ’08

  32. UM...I GUESS

    let me clarify my remarks

obama was smiling while mccain was making the crude gestures…

    my bad, lol

  33. AREUREGISTERED2VOTE?

GOOD MORNING AMERICA HAD BIDEN ON FOR HIS COMMENTS ABOUT THE FINAL DEBATE…MCCAIN CAMP DECLINED GMA OFFER TO HAVE PALIN ON FOR HER TAKE ON THE DEBATE….LOL MAVERICK!!! LMAO!!!

  34. @5,i thought it was just me who was annoyed by that, but honestly his whole DEMEANOR annoyed me.and you’d think since he’s running for PRESIDENT,his speech would be better,he needs some public speaking lessons

aside from that,i do think the debate was good……..the subject of Roe.v.Wade is like wow to me…..

  35. JOE THE PLUMBER (no relation to Joe Six Pack)

My favorite part of the whole the whole debate is John McCain failed, “Plant and Payoff” move with this Joe Plumber guy. It was like an hour into the debate and after Obama gave his 2 minute rundown on his tax plan. McCain looked into the camera and said AHAAA! Congrats Joe, Your Rich! LMFAO! I wouldn’t be surprised if McCain went as far as saying Check and Mate! (insert old man grunts too) haha! He fell flat on his face.

Also when Obama said that his health care plan wouldn’t have any fines. The look on McCain’s Face was P-Rice-Less! Damn good television!

    That One 08!

  36. Caring

PLEASE GO OUT AND VOTE NOVEMBER 4TH ! Do not take anything for granted. Forget the poll numbers VOTE!!! I am begging and I usually do not but too much is at stake here!

    Obama/Biden!

  37. RJ

    @Areuaregistered2vote

Your comments are oohhh so right on point and also hilarious. Obama is one coooooooooool brutha

  38. RJ

What was up with that smirk McCain had on his face and was his face a little swollen or something. My mother said the smirk was an attempt at smiling and looking friendlier but I don’t think it worked. I can’t believe (oh yes I can) he couldn’t keep his eye-rolling and obvious contempt for Obama off his face. He probably is an old mean man like they say he is.

  39. KINGRON

WELL THIS IS WHAT I THINK…

I THINK FOR THE FIRST 30MINS I THINK MCLAME WAS KILLING OBAMA BUT HE RECOVERED AND STAYED ON TOP FOR THE REST OF THE HR…I LOVE WHEN OBAMA WAS TALKING ABOUT EDUCATION AND I’M LOVED HIS RAP UP SPEECH…I DON’T LIKE THAT MCLAME KEPT MAKING FALSE REMARKS ESPECIALLY WHEN HE DOESN’T HAVE ANYTHING TO BACK THEM UP AND ONE MORE NOTE…IT WAS LIKE MCLAME MALFUNCTION THEY WAS TALKING ABOUT EDUCATIONS THEN HE JUMPED TO SOMETHING ELSE

  40. Yahsal

I don’t think McCain meant for his Joe the Plumber comments to be comedic but I couldn’t help but laugh at his analogies and repitition of “Joe the Plumber.” It kept Obama smilling as well…McCain is a big joke to me.

VOTE PEOPLE! VOTE! We have come to far to sit this one out.

  41. beyonceaintallthat

Grumpy McNasty was pissed bcuz he was getting beat. those faces he was making was really childish and immature. I do not want Mclame to be my president, he seem like he would have a temper tantrum about anything… Quite frankly im afraid he might have a heart attack being so upset over every little thing..

I was very upset at Obama last night for not standing up for himself, every chance he got where he could fire back at McNasty,, he just smilled. I’m not saying he should whop the old mans ass(bcuz I would) I’m just saying he should attack him back. he could still make McLame feel really small in a cool, calm way.

  42. Bahamas/Chicago/Cayman Gal

I hate to admit it but I give credit where credit is due, McCain did well last night, in order to stay in the game as a viable candidate he had to, so he came out swinging guns balzing, good for him!! BUT, and there is definately a BUT, my man Obama, shined like a brand new silver dollar!!! He was strong and confident, he spoke with passion and knowledge!! His health, education and economic plans are sound and you caould see he know his stuff!! I saw a President in Senator Obama!!!

As for Joe the Plumber, everyone will not agree with everything you do but its the greater good concept you know. And you have to spend money in order to make it better!!

Sen. McCain all that blinking and grinning he came of like a freaking idiot to me, he looked a little crazy, like grandpa is onstep from coo coo ville!! And I’ m sorry they say women can’t identify with Michelle Obama, Cindy McCain is the coldest chick I have seen in a long time even when she smiles its like she smell doo doo!!

  43. DEEDEE

The first half hour, McCain did appear to have the upper-hand on the debate, but lets be real…they’ve debated 3 times now, wouldn’t most people have some sort of improvement, by the third time?! Now I’m not saying that he blew Obama away, because McCain still hasn’t said specifically how he will improve this country’s state, not to mention he was so tense throughout the debate, even if I was a McCain supporter I would wonder how confident he is, in his own doctrines. However, he is a “hothead” and @ one point I was looking at him like “calm down!” he almost had a “caniption” (he threw a fit) lol…while Obama was so calm, I love that about him. With all of that said, Obama will win come November 4th. Side Note- since when did politics ever care about candidates’ “hurt feelings” I thought McCain was trying to throw himself a pity party because Obama didn’t “reputiate” his campaign or ppl not even affiliated like John Lewis said about McCain.

  44. beyonceaintallthat

People please go out and VOTE!!!!
    The polls mean nothing people
Your vote is the only thing that counts
YOU have to VOTE on November 4th.

Who cares about the polls, the real numbers come november 4th election day.
I strongly discourage early voting bcuz if they realize OBAMA is winning they will steal the votes like they did for BUSH. People I took the day off just to go Vote for OBAMA… Please go out and vote.

  45. MAI03

Senator Obama held his own last night. He was awsome. He held his composure and he was dignified and showed America just why he should be President of this country. While Mccaine on the other hand just tried to win over the undecided voters the depserate way–by trying to throw negative blows to Obama. Obama did well turning the topics back to what needed to be talked about rather than name bashing and pointing fingers. Mccajn kept voicing that Americans are angry…yeah and were getting even more angrier at the fact that you cant answer a question stright forward but rather turn it into wht Obama isnt doing. Obama really kept his composure when McCain said I am not Bush, if you wanted to run against him you should of ran 4 years ago..” He really kept his composure and that was uncalled for by McCaine. Its obvious your not George Bush, but if you get into office it will be 4 more years of the way things are right now.

  46. MIDNIGHT

I thoroughly enjoyed the debate lastnite. Obama stuck to the facts and cleared up the mess. McCain really makes my anus ache. With all the interjecting and arrogant laughing. Did he miss the fact that Obama has a 14% lead? Best part of the night for me was when McCain mentioned Palin and her autistic son (sympathy move) encouraging the push for programs for the mentally challenged. Obama shot back with “Senator McCain my plan will reform and fund those programs.” I was like BAM in your face. People fail to realize Joe the Plummer if able to accrue $200,000+ landing him in the higher tax bracket will be sitting right up there with Obama. Paying his share of taxes so get the hell over it. All of his employees (the middle class) will not be taxed which means he can make up for money lost by calculating wages with the taxes included. No money lost and he still lives reasonably. He needs to get a damn accountant. If i hear Joe the Plummer one more time i am gonna die. That’s my rant. It just killed me that McCain was fake as hell taking all the cues from the strategist and media. Shake the opponents hand, Linger after the show to meet and greet, Distinguish yourself from Bush, Talk about Ayres, Look Obama in the eyes, Express empathy with America. He’s a damn puppet and officially dismissed. GO OBAMA!!! I already hit up the absentee ballot but go on out there and vote folks. It’ll make you feel big and strong!

  47. CGJ

I can honestly say that I have not been this politically aware or involved since the Clinton administration. I gave up on Bush just a year into his first term, and I haven’t looked back. I have seen the world as I know it change drastically as a result of his policies though.

I’ve watched all 4 debates, including the very comical and entertaining Vice Presidential debate. Everyone was talking about how angry and antagonistic John McCain seemed in last night’s debate, but he’s seemed that way in all 3 debates to me.

McCain just seemed…old and doddering. He lost me a couple of times, and then the seemingly random comments he would make about Palin at the most inapropriate moments was very weird for me.

McCain still failed to spell out clearly how he intended to govern the country, and he seemingly was coming off the top of his head with some of his answers.

We need to STOMP NOW more than ever to make sure Obama wins. We cannot rest on our laurels just because the polls show Obama leading. NO ONE should be thinking that their vote isn’t important or necessary. Yes, we do need to worry about racism and how that will impact voters. But we all should be prayerful that white people will embrace their inner Negro and vote their conscience and intellect, and not their race.

  48. VIRGOANG3L

While watching the debate last night, I noticed something. John McCain nitpicks with Barack Obama’s character to the people of America. He never says it to Obama. McCain (the Same) doesn’t answer a question directly. He freqently makes sneak attacks rather than focus on the issue at hand. McCain have everything but a real solution to the problems we are facing.

  49. beyonceaintallthat

I thought Sara Palin son had down syndrom, why did Grumpy McNasty say her son has Autism? Dumbbbbbb ASS

  50. KIA

    LOL @19!

@25 I agree. Obama did really well. McCain did okay too, but he was being a real jackass at times and he seemed a little heated, kind of like how a child would react. McCain came off really rude and shady, and if he’s like that now, then that doesn’t mean he’ll change if he gets the presidency.

Obama shut McCain down on Acorn and Ayers, so hopefully we won’t hear about that foolishness anymore.

MCain just looked like he wanted to fight!

  51. SUGA

I VOTE FOR JOE THE PLUMBER!

  52. likeabite

The democrats have won all for debates but point of correction. The world’s richest man at the moment is Bill Gates… Buffet lost that position which he held last time.

  53. Joe Plumber is not alone........

Yes please forget the poll numbers….

Joe the Plumber is Joe Wurzelbacher and he is the voice and face of many Americans including myself with concerns about tax breaks, capital gains issues if you make over $250k and own a small business… while Walmart gets a subsidy right now for placing their business in communities the end up closing Mom and Pop stores…. either way both of their plans on that issue is screwed up… however long term I understand Obama’s will come together especially if he tweaks it now and rethinks what he is planning…

Also, sending jobs out of the country McCain? Do you know how many people get laid off each year because their job is outsourced…. try calling Amex on the weekend and you will get Rashid from India who wants your SS#… uh I think not…. Obama was right on point with keeping jobs hear in America, I think no matter what color you are that pisses people off!

  54. LetMeTryAgain

    # 35…JOE THE PLUMBER (no relation to Joe Six Pack)…

    Love the Sreen Name…LMAO!!!

About the debate…McCain came out like he really wanted to win this debate, but clearly Obama remained cool and collected and came out on top.

I liked how the moderator kept saying to McCain “But the question was…”…LMAO CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!

  55. PEEPLPAYATTENSHUN

    @ #49 beyonceaintallthat

RIGHT!!! I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING! I’M SURPRISED MAIN STREAM MEDIA DIDN’T JUMP ON MCSHAKES FLUB.

  56. KIA

As badly as I want Obama to win this, you know these angry white folks will lose their minds if Obama becomes President. This will only make the situation worse and there will probably be several attempts on his life. What can we do? Is there anything we can do? I’m going to pray for him. Any thoughts anyone?

  57. RJ

I think Obama’s calm cool demeanor is winning out over McCain’s hotheadness (made up word..LOL). I know the turning the other cheek thing doesn’t always work but it appears to be winning over voters and irritating McCain at the same time. What more could you ask for???

  58. RJ

    @KIA

Yea some non-black folks will lose their ever-lovin’-mind. I think all we can do is pray for his safety.

  59. DEEDEE

@49, yes Palin’s son has Down Syndrome, and might I add, that because she’s been on the campaign trail she has not been able to be with her son who needs her…and right now he is still just an infant, there will be much more of a demand of her time as he gets older…

  60. MRSJONES3

ALL I CAN SAY IS I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL NOV. 4 SO I CAN DO MY PART IN PUTTING THIS AMAZING AND WONDERFUL BLACK MAN IN OFFICE TO REPRESENT THIS COUNTRY. I WOULD VOTE FOR HIM 10 TIMES IF I COULD!! IF THERE IS ANYBODY HERE FROM OKLAHOMA, CAN U TELL ME IF WE ARE DOING EARLY VOTING?? I WOULD LOVE TO DO THAT ASAP

    OBAMA/BIDEN 08′-16′
