POLITICS: FINAL DEBATE RECAP

The final showdown between Sens. Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain was by far the best with more substantive issues and less talking points.

McCain made the event exciting, but Obama made it memorable. McCain knew this was his last chance to reach undecided voters and he came out swinging, which included keeping his promise to bring up William Ayers. Analysts noted how petty that made him look on the day which the Dow Jones had lost 8 percent of its value. Additionally, his eye-rolling, grimacing and smirking illustrated nothing but contempt toward his Democratic rival. It was reminiscent of Al Gore’s sighing during his debate with George Bush in 2000, which many think contributed to his defeat.

Obama remained cool, calm and took every opportunity to change the subject to economics and the woes of the average American. When McCain mentioned Obama’s association with Ayers, Obama used it to his advantage to claim that whom he associates with on economic issues are former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Paul Volcker and successful investor and the world’s richest man Warren Buffett.

Obama continued use of his line that McCain would represent a continuation of Bush’s policies. McCain fired back that he was not Bush, and “if [Obama] wanted to run against Bush, [he] should’ve run four years ago”. McCain’s advisers have been stressing the need to to make that distinction, but it’s unlikely that he made an impression with voters. Major network polls show Obama went three for three following last night’s debate and increased his already high chances of victory.

I do not want Mclame to be my president, he seem like he would have a temper tantrum about anything… Quite frankly im afraid he might have a heart attack being so upset over every little thing..

    Obama 2008!!

People don’t take for granted that Obama has already won, like Michelle said,” It’s not over until Obama is seating in the white house as president. McCain can still win if everyone does not vote. So, VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! LET’S MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!!

  4. Gods Grace

I think people who havent voted, should go and do so. with that being said, of course i cant. I’m from England UK. I wish i could vote.i believe Obama will be a breath of fresh air for America. The would prominently benefit from him.i am inspired by him,not because he shares the same skin color as i do.But i have aways grown up with racism towards me.asian this, asian that. But sometimes this world can be the white mans world. not to sound narrow minded. excuse me if i did.It depends which tunnel you look at from.Obama carries his self with so much class and poise,i beleive he has a alot of soul and heart.so the people who have the opporturnity to vote go and do so. woo hoo. Obama Love Obama Love.

@113–like #116 said, i think you were actually tuned out while the independents and undecided were tuned in and picked barack as the winner of the debate. barack held his own as only he can do and he didn’t attack mcsame because all the polls are showing that the american public views attacks negatively. he did what he needed to do while mcsame fluttered around like a plane with a stalled engine, trying to land. and he never did. barack is intelligent and strategic and knows that mere one upmanship is not going to win him the white house. it may not have been barack’s strongest showing (personally, i liked debate no. 2 better) but he definitely has mcsame on the ropes and if all he has going for him is joe the plumber, that is where he will remain.

    GOBAMA!!

@119 I co sign, where where “they” when Bush stole 00 and 04????????????

  8. Have Not Thought Of a New User Name

John McCain started of stronger but fell apart when he actually had to talk about issues and issues are what matter the most to Americans which is why Obama won.

    Barack 08

Obama gets my vote, on POLICY/not just demeanor. I am a finance professional and I understand the significance of their economic plans and how they will affect the markets around the world. Other nations are doing what Obama is proposing right now to stave off the same kinds of issues we face. This is time for a “My brother’s keeper” philosophy (for all of you theologians out there) and not “Everyman for himself” like McCain proposes. You see, high profit earners are not being penalized so much as pulling their weight in a crisis. We have to understand that the least of us is the measure by which a nation is truly measured. Why is it that we will be willing to police the world but scoff at programs to eradicate poverty in our own country? Save me the tax and spend debate… because if we are not willing to do things different than the “bootstrap GOP” then we will be looking at something far worse than the Great Depression.
Now in the POLICY debate, McCain loses. He was so busy trying to poke holes in Obama’s plan that he failed to lay out the specifics of his own. How will you pay for it John? What will you sacrifice John? No Answer. All he did was pander to his base… more illicitly to the base nature of his base.
Wat about the fact that he too spoke at an ACORN event THIS YEAR? uuum we won’t talk about that…. for a fee…. nevermind.

K, without attacking the man on personality, his subject matter suffered. I was convinced last night, Obama should be President.
And for the record, anyone who diminishes a woman’s health and right to equal pay for equal work…. sorry. Game Over. I too am a Christian, but the bible I read says “let he who is without sin, cast the first stone”….

(Sidebar: Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it, do NOT get comfortable…let’s see this through to the end VOTE VOTE VOTE)

    Barack Obama11111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHy didn’t anyone investigate ACORN in 04 when Bush baby got back in the white house……. I know somebody was being paid to spike the punch back then.

You may already know this, so pass it on to someone who may not
    know!
    Pass this on…

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KNOW…

For those of us who normally vote “Straight Democratic”, please pay close attention!!! !! I was
informed this weekend by a group of Obama volunteers that when voting for the
presidential candidate this November, you have to make sure you punch
Barack’s name first, then proceed to punch “Straight Democratic” or else the vote for the president
    won’t count.

I’m not sure if any of you are aware of this, but we know they won’t tell us
this at the polls . Please make sure you inform others

This is confirmed to be true in a 2004 Snopes “Urban Legends” page
    regarding the Bush/Cheney election!

IF YOU DONT DO ANYTHING ELSE ON NOVEMBER 4TH, MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR BUTTS OUT THERE AND VOTE………………AND FOR THOSE OF YOU STILL TRYING TO DECIDE SHOULD YOU OR SHOULD YOU NOT………….PLEASE REMEMBER WHAT OTHERS WENT THROUGH SO THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE THIS RIGHT………..FOR OUR FOREFATHERS AND MOTHERS THAT WERE FORCED TO PAY AN ILLEGAL POLL TAX FOR WANTING TO VOTE………GO VOTE! FOR THE COUNTLESS BROTHERS AND SISTERS THAT LOST THEIR LIVES AND OR WERE SUBJECTED TO CRUEL AND UNGODLY PUNISHMENT THAT YOU MAY VOTE……………..GO VOTE! FOR THOSE THAT WERE TOLD THAT THEY MUST BE ABLE TO RECITE PARTS OF THE CONSTITUTION BEFORE THEY COULD VOTE, WHEN MANY COULDNT READ……GO VOTE! FOR ALL OF OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS THAT WERE LYNCHED FOR UNJUST CAUSES BY JIM CROW LAWS, WE MADE SOME PROGRESS, LET’S FINISH IT ON OUT BY GETTING OUT THERE WITH YOUNG AND OLD, HAND AND HAND, AND VOTING FOR A LONG OVERDUE CHANGE IN AMERICA!!!

@ 101 lower ur caps it doesn’t make me hear u anymore than i already cant

you sound just like a sheep. its ok to criticize the leader. when i said he needed to be aggressive i didn’t mean in a rowdy way. he needed to step his D up start answering questions more direct and quit trippin over his words. i felt he was under prepared and his stingers to McCain were deff overshadowed by the ones thrown at him. McCain spanked him when he called him out on taxin ppl and when he used one of his own supporters as a ploy, Joe the plumber. Obama didnt come back at mccain as hard as he should had. McCain deff had the upper hand in this debate and it was obvious.

  16. soofreshxx

i’m from england so i dont know much about american politics but it seems to me obama is for the people while mccain is for cooperate america and if he becomes pres we all know who’ll benefit. and on another thing, d**n some white people are so hateful perhaps they hven’t noticed that there are other people in the country not just them.

  17. quil

    FIRST IMA SAY GO OBAMA!

THAT DEBATE WAS BY FAR ALL OBAMAS.

ALL MCCAIN DID WAS TRY TO DEGRADE AND BELITTLE OBAMA WITH NEGATIVITY INSTEAD OF TALKING ABOUT THE ISSUES OF OUR CONTRY. EVEN AFTER OBAMA CLEARED THE AIR MCCAIN KEPT WITH HIS IGNORANCE.

SO FOR THOSE WHO SAY MCCAIN KILLED IT. YOUR BY FAR SO SCREWED IN THE HEAD. MCCAIN IS TRYING TO MAKE SURE THE RICH REPUBLICIANS STAY RICH AND DEMOCRATS GET KNOCKED INTO THE SLUMPS EVEN MORE BECAUSE OUR TAXES WILL BE RAISED EVEN MORE.

MCCAIN IS FULL OF IT. AND I HOPE YOU ALL VOTE WISELY. BECAUSE OBAMA FOR THE MOST PART SEEMS TO HAVE A STABLE PLAN THAT IS WORKED OUT AND FINE TUNED TO WORK OUT FOR EVERYONE.

IF YOUR VOTE WAS CHANGED BECAUSE OF SOME CHEAP SHOTS THAT MCCAIN MADE THEN SOMETHINGS WRONG. FOCUS ON THE ISSUES AND LET THAT BE YA GUIDE NOT HE SAID SHE SAID.

Yeah but what about Joe the Plumber……

  20. It was reminiscent of Al Gore’s sighing during his debate with George Bush in 2000, which many think contributed to his defeat.

Maybe I’m getting old, but I don’t remember that at all.
