POLITICS: SENATE PASSES BAILOUT / BIDEN AND PALIN FACE OFF / DON’T VOTE
Thursday, October 2, 2008

On Wednesday night, the Senate passed 74-25 a financial bailout plan similar to one the House rejected earlier this week. Presidential candidates Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain voted in favor.
Following the vote, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, said, “This is a measure for Main Street, not Wall Street. [It will help] to unfreeze our credit markets and get the American economy working again.”
The House is expected to take up the Senate plan on Friday, and the plan is intended to attract more House Republican votes with the mention of tax cuts. If it passes, it would be one of the largest economic interventions since the Great Depression.
The Senate plan includes temporarily raising the cap on FDIC insurance from $100,000 to $250,000. To cover any losses that may occur because of the insurance limit, the FDIC would be allowed to borrow from the Treasury. The bill would also extend renewable energy tax breaks, research and development credit for businesses and the credit that allows individuals to deduct state and local sales taxes on their federal returns. It also includes relief for another year from the Alternative Minimum Tax. The AMT was originally designed to prevent the wealthy from avoiding paying taxes, but because it was not indexed to inflation, it has impacted an increasing number of middle-class taxpayers, so Congress has passed a series of “patches” to boost the threshold each year.
BIDEN AND PALIN FACE OFF

Sen. Joe Biden and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin face off for the first and only vice presidential debate Thursday night at 9 p.m. EST. Moderated by Gwen Ifill, the debate will air live on every major network and cable news channel from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Be sure to check out Concrete Loop’s recap tomorrow morning.
DON’T VOTE
Celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Halle Berry, Jamie Foxx and Eva Longoria Parker, among others, are urging people not to vote, unless they care about anything in which case they should vote, as voting is the only way to effect change.

Lol, that video was funny. I wonder if “regular” people ever wonder why ACTORS are used in spots like this. For goodness sakes, they even had the damn sign that they use to end a scene at the end of the silly ass video. Black people have to start paying attention, but if they haven’t this long, they never will. These people come up with all type of B.S. slogans every four years. In 2004 it was “Vote or Die”, lol. Now it’s “Don’t Vote.”. Based on the intelligence of the average person; and the basic morals of most of these actors and entertainers, whatever they advocate, any person with common sense should probably do the opposite. They hit all the demographics: the black hom*sexuals (Usher, Jamie Foxx, and Will I Am), the negroes that sold their souls for acclaim in Hollywood (Forrest Whitaker, Halle Berry), the lesbos (Ellen Degenerate), and all the fake jew actors that want Obama to win so that he can escalate the “War on Terror”.

I cannot wait to see the debate tonight. What I hate is everyone saying Joe Biden has to be careful and don’t be too hard on Sarah, because he will upset women across the country. Are you kidding me? It is a freaking debate. The point of a debate is one must convince the opponent that you are correct and he or she is incorrect. You do this by appearing confident, disproving the opponent’s point, and overpowering your opponent.
Sarah Palin aspires to hold the second most powerful postion in the USA and if God forbids McCain croaks she will be thrust in the most powerful position as president. Do you think Russia, Iran, or China gives a shit about her emotions? By these pundits saying this, only means that Sarah Palin is not ready to be the VP or president not because she can’t tell her ass from her elbow, but because she is woman. Point blank period.
Frankly, if this is the case then no woman should aspire to be leaders….

This is going to be an interesting debate. Both candidates have to defend their own positions as well as McCain’s and Obama’s. Palin has already flubbed more then once on her own views and damage control on her haven’t been very successful. She can’t think on her feet and must have moments of A.D.D. lol I think they realized they she was over prepped so maybe she will be more of herself and we’ll see something different then as of late.
Biden is known to be a pitbull and has to tone it down or he may insult the women voters esp the women who were for Clinton. It would do him well to maybe attack McCain’s position on policies via Palin and slip her up some more. He has his own history that includes plagarism, he also said in 07 Obama wasn’t ready to be President, in 02 he voted for intervention in Iraq so he will not go unscathed by Palin…
this debate will be challenging for both

See, I cannot make this point without someone calling me a sexist. I am not a sexist, I was raised by a single mother so I have seen the strength of a woman. But be clear my mother could not be president of the United States. She could not hurt a soul.
My point is they make it seem like women needs to be treating with mittens. But if that’s the case, I keep all my mittens in the ktichen, so maybe women need to be there as well…lol. I am just joking.
This is just a debate and if women are wondering if Palin’s feelings will be hurt now, how do you think she’ll stack up when a super power country has a nuclear missile pointed at our heads. She’ll fall apart. Maybe some jobs are not for women. Emotions and sensitivity have to go on the backburner, when a leader has to make critical and lifesaving decisions and until women prove that they can do that, they need to fall back.

I don’t like this bailout one bit. Why does it help everyone but the ones that are paying for it? Complete foolishness. Both the Democrats and the Republicans signed off on this so there isn’t one party at blame, but both parties rather. Anyway, people put your money in some gold, diamonds, or real estate because if this bill passes and then fails to do what they though it would, I’m sure the dollar won’t be worth much.

What? Some lady just bought a house for $1.25 online! Sigh, if you have a good chunk of money saved, you can purchase property with it. If you don’t want to buy property, then invest in gold or something that will always hold value. Why do you think the government is buying property? You need to watch them. If you don’t have any money, then it doesn’t apply to you.
Because there are so many foreclosures is exactly why it’s a good time to buy. If you are being foreclosed on then it doesn’t apply to you, but if you’re renting or just starting out then you may have a chance.

The dollar is already not worth anything on the world market. Again, the greenback is MONOPOLY MONEY. America is claiming to boost an economy that is already finished with money that doesn’t exist. There is no 700 billion. You cannot supply 700 billion dollars from a government that owes 7 trillion. Not possible. This whole charade has been to calm the fears of the masses that believe in the things that this country claims to stand for.
@SIGH
If ou understand that the president is selected, why are you a proponent for Clinton? You should know that all these people are different scales on the same serpent.

i still don’t believe this is going to pass, and bush/cheney will get their parting gift. a bailout is what it is period. not only this but add-ons for the special people. tax breaks for the middle class who is the middle class? is it the people who on their way home blow right by the ghetto on the express way while they are headed home in such a hurry that they even created a[ I ]PASS LANE so now they don’t even have to stop. are they the ones who pass by me like i’am invisible? ok. now you’ve taken care of the middle class w/ a tax break wink-wink……….. how about the ones on the lower economic ladder the ones you people up on[crooked] -captial hill usually forget. we don’t count. or you throw a few crumbs our way calling it a stimulus check. while again the energy companies get another tax break in the guise of energy exploration and renewable energy. the same companys that just raised your electric rates again before the winter season. hey did BLACK WALL STREET GET A BAIL OUT. oh thats right they got burnt out. and can’t even get reparations. for what they went through IN TULSA OK. . oh how we black folks tend to forget. with you I’AM DOING ALRIGHT NOW ATTITUDE, while ya get to roam the plantation and graze like goats thinking i’am doing ok but i want to say just keep livin. and those of you who got them jobs where you are beholden to sponsors and supporters. and the ones who got to be politcally correct while you be BO’ JANGLIN ON YOUR JOBS, i ain’t mad at you. you do what you got to do. and last but not least rep. clayburn who said he help draft the legigslation in this bailout and then turned around and said he needed his staff and lawyers to help figure out wants in it. or help him with the interptation of the bill. this bail out said the FDIC will only protect your money up to 250,000 for a year then what? again folks which is norm for black folks YOU’VE BEEN TOOK —— YOU’VE BEEN —— “HOODWINKED” ———- YOU’VE BEEN BAMBOOZLED again you goats, while your “grazing in the grass.” not knowing what MR.CHAARLIE DONE FERTILZED THAT GRASS THAT YOU GRAZIN ON WITH. JUST KEEP LIVIN. sen. obama said that we have to PUT OUT THE FIRE yes this is true but senator just look over the hill and you are going to see that ROME/ AMERICA IS BURNING. and i think the bottom is going to fall by march so beware of the ides of march. you can’t make this stuff up. this is not a diatribe just mark my words.

LOL! Yes you do! If money wasn’t a major issue for millions of Americans, then why would everybody be concerned about the economy? Regardless if you have “money”, now is not the time to be buying up real estate if folks can’t afford to buy them! I’m not sure if you’ve been reading or watching the news, but real people are losing their jobs & their savings. The folks that do have money ain’t gonna be in a rush to buy property. Any real estate that you (or anybody w/ money) bought could, and would be, on the market for months. Hell even years! Do you feel what I’m saying? Or do I need to explain?
44.
JUDAH
Thursday, October 2, 2008 /
The government is going to take back the only thing of appreciable value that they have left, that being the land. That’s what this whole real estate scandal is about. If you think that you’re going to jump on the real estate market while everything is at an all-time low with the belief that you will net major gains when the market “recovers”, think again.

Sigh, you aren’t listening pimpin. I specifically said IF YOU HAVE MONEY TO PUT IT IN SOMETHING OF VALUE. If you don’t have a job, then you probably don’t have any money. So your entire comment does not even apply to mine.
Do you not understand that any money you have regardless if it’s a dollar or 100 dollars, won’t be worth anything if the government keeps messing up? You need to put it in something - gold, silver, diamonds and PROPERTY. You know that property holds value right? If you don’t think it does, then go get the gold and diamonds that I mentioned before.
If you don’t have any money, then you should not have read my comment. According to you, real people are getting foreclosed and losing their jobs, so I guess I’m referring to all my fake people that are still working and saving. LOL. I don’t want to waste anymore of my time on you, so good luck!

It could take years (it will take years) for our economy to recover. In the meantime you own property that’s not gonna generate any type of wealth, so again, I still don’t understand your logic of buying up property. It just seems like a waste of money..I dunno

KIA
Thursday, October 2, 2008 /
SIgh! You’re killing me, but I can’t help it so I’ll explain. And you may not agree but here’s my logic of owning property.
What I was talking about early doesn’t apply to if the economy recovers. I’m talking about a situation of if IT DOES NOT RECOVER. If our money isn’t worth anything, what will you do to get what you need? Trade right? Let’s say you have a house or even just the land — maybe the house burned down or something. And I wanted to trade you some gold or something for the land you own. Do you see where I’m getting at?
Look, I always think about what I should do when in disaster. I just don’t want you to lose your money. So get a couple of things that you can trade. You don’t have to buy the property.
Good luck for real. I hope you don’t lose any money that you’ve earned.

Now that you’ve clarified your position, it still, logically, makes no sense!!! LMAO..I understand that you want to buy property (this is if the economy doesn’t improve) so that you can trade(?) it for gold? Am I understanding this right? Why not just buy gold outright? Why buy property? It just makes no sense! I hope (for your own financial sake) that your system works.
