The Senate will vote Wednesday night in order to revive President Bush’s multi-billion dollar financial rescue plan. The plan failed in the House, but this version adds substantial tax cuts meant to appeal to Republicans when it reaches the House again.
Senate passage has seemed assured all along. But Senate leaders figure the House will have to approve it because the tax cuts are too appealing to Republicans and the financial rescue plan will still seem essential to most Democrats.
OBAMA’S CBC AWARD + LEADING MCCAIN
Barack Obama was recently honored with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Phoenix award at the 38th Annual Legislative Conference dinner in Washington.
The award recognizes those who through their efforts and accomplishments have made significant contributions to society, and it symbolizes the immortality of the human spirit and an eternal desire to reach its full potential.
Obama is also enjoying a continued lead over Republican counterpart John McCain. According to the latest Gallup poll, Obama leads McCain 49-43.
PALIN NEW YORKER COVER + APOLOGY

With its October 6th cover, The New Yorker pokes a little fun at Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin for claiming that Alaska’s proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience.
Rep. Alcee Hastings, who recently told an audience that they should be wary of Palin because “anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks,” has apologized for his remarks.
Hastings issued a statement saying, “I regret the comments I made last Tuesday that were not smart and certainly not relevant to hunters or sportsmen.”
Hastings said he still backed the sentiment behind his initial remarks: “The point I made, and will continue to make, is that the policies and priorities of a McCain-Palin administration would be anathema to most African Americans and Jews. I regret that I was not clearer and apologize to Governor Palin, my host where I was speaking, and those who my comments may have offended.”

lmao the new yorker don’t even care haha…they make their covers and in preparation to release it they schedule when and who is going to apologize for them. Before releasing it they’re like “yep we’re gonna have to apologize for this one…who’s gonna do it..it’s mike’s turn!”
That funny, @ #1
i’m british but i apprieciate this man
FUNNY FUNNY LOL
ok…
I LOVE IT, the NYer is a mess, but at least this was right on the money. I am worried about the bail out, who are these tax cuts for. Dakar can we get a more clearer picture on this legislation. I want to know what the hell this mess really is going to benefit. God help the middle amd working class cuz this some real b.s.
This isn’t as offensive as the cover they did on Barack and Michelle but it does make a valid point…SP has no foreign policy experience….the republicans should be proud of the their vp candidate!
#1 was really funny. lmao
HA HA HA at the New Yorker that is funny
The CBC is full of BS. A great deal of them didnt support Obama and that’s okay. I do however disagree with the many, many lies they told about him, and the many race cards they played against him. Now that its becoming highly likely that Obama will be the next president they want to jump on the bandwagon to save their own backsides. I have little to no love for them.
OBAMA ALL THE WAY…
LET’S KEEP IT REAL PEOPLE…..LET’S KEEP IT REAL.
Where is P.E.T.A at now? Palin kills Bulwinkle and they are dead silent. Oh the irony.
The remarks by Hastings may not have been too smart for his political career, but they may be true and were funny as hell!!!!!!!!
I don’t know why people are so sensitive when it comes to this woman but, she said she has experience because she can see Russia in her backyard, that was funny as hell but truly messed up!!! I’m not saying Srah Palin is dumb or not good at her job as Gov. of Alaska, but VP and then President if McCain croaks??? Uh no!!!
#1, that was funny.
lmao @ Palin you can just ad that to the list of dumb things she has said since McCain announced her as his running mate… what’s new? She is Bush in a dress…lol…. she is one candidate that needs to stick to the written script don’t go outside of the lines on the lined paper just like in grade school…lol..
SNL is having a field day with her…lmao
So now that Obama is in the lead I wonder if people will still question the polls?
The New Yorker always “pokes fun” at everybody in politics lol. Their not doin anythin but what we “common folk” do every day, y apologize?? Its usually all in fun && good humor, && if they meant it then so what!!! Ppl r entitled to their own opinions…besides, it obviously had some truth to it…
Be Real Harris/Fenty ’08
@16- Yes, I question the polls. I for one, never been polled or anyone else that I know of. I don’t know what you are trying to get at though, so I am going to leave it at that.
Oh Sarah, always settling for 2nd place…she just needs to give it up. She knew she was barely qualified to be a teacher’s aide, let alone Vice President of the United States. The chick has a degree in sports journalism and this is who could be running our country?! I love when she does interviews-it always shows that she has no substance whatsoever.
did yall see her latest interview yesterday with Katie Couric.
she couldn’t even name one newspaper that she read
Sarah Palin is the female version to Homer Simpson. She is as dumb as they get. She has a bachelors in journalism and could not name a single newspaper. I wonder what questions they’ll ask her in the debate tomorrow. Obviously the moderator can’t ask her about foreign policy, definitely not about supreme court cases and most definitely not about the economic crisis. So I guess the only question left to ask her is “How to BBQ a moose?”
Really liking Obama. But can’t get past his belief in abortion, stem cell research, gay marriage. too liberal, but still love what he has done for our community by being a candidate that can compete on this grand scale and not be ignored. I hope next election there will be a black Republican that is on the same level as Obama as far as competitiveness. Obama has set it off and the preceding elections will start to resemble the rise of the black Mayors.
That foreign policy “experience” claim by Palin is the most ridiculous shit I’ve ever heard. I was watching CNN and they were saying that the remote island of Little Diomede on the most extreme northwestern coat of Alaska (very close to Russia’s Big Diomede and hene the Diomede Islands) has 40% poverty, and general consensus is that Palin has neglected the indigenous Alaskans of the region. They place is tiny, many of whom don’t own televisions, so communication from the rest of the world and America is hard to come by.
I bet the Fox News are gonna attack the “big bad mean hypocritical liberals” from the New Yorker for bashing their precious little hocky mom
#21, you are entitled to your own opinion, but I am wondering when the last time any of those so-called liberal issues affected you directly? I am pro-myob (mind your own business) and can’t really piece together how Steve and Tom marrying has anything to do with me. I guess I can’t understand how religious/conservative/economical beliefs could sway you so strongly, that you are unable to recognize the effects of the republican(t)’s party on the US; specifically the minority community.

He has a right to HIS own opinion and to respond to what a MAJORITY of other people dont have a problem with. Im sure if someone told YOU what religion u had to practice you’d too would be up in arms, b/c the point is OTHER PEOPLE have a right to their own freedoms even if YOU dont agree.
And if “too Liberal” means not butting into 1. technilogical advancements (no one complains about viagra which alters a mans ‘natural state’, or 2. who i want to be married to (my husband whose not black, btw which used to be illegal back in the day) or 3. what I can CHOOSE to do with my own body as a woman…. then Im proud to be a PROGRESSIVE LIBERAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the rules are about protecting everyone not just the conservitive few
just putting it out there.
Congrats Obama. Please Vote For Obama Everyone! “We Need Change!”

The New Yorker crosses the line and as I recall, the cover picturing Obama as a Muslim while fist pounding his wife was offensive. It showed nothing factual and stereotyped them as hood when they are clearly above and beyond that. Palin and McCains covers were actually based on fact, which is why alot of people don’t view them as equal in their political statements no matter how amusing they are.
#20…Homer??? Damn, lol. I have her as a cross between Dan Quayle/Xena…Warrior Princess. She’s dumb, but can kill a bear with her bare hands.
#22…I can only watch Hannity/Colmes on Fox. When their own reporter (Neil Cavulto) can sit back and blame “blacks and other risky people” for this financial mess and still have a job, it clearly shows their agenda. Not even an apology.
I am a black Republican, and I’m sorry, real Republicans would vote for Obama. Real Republicans are about small government (McCain was okay with wire tapping), smaller spending (the Bush Administration, and McCain has voted on some of the most liberal spending bills EVER), and civil rights (Republicans penned Affirmative Action, not Democrats). Obama is even trying to revive Nixon’s original Affirmative Action plan which not only covered minorities, but the poor. In addition, we have had a Republican ruled congress, and abortion, gay marriages, and stem cell research have never been banned. Are these just code words used to pander? Yes. When I look at the real Republican attributes, I cannot help but to support Obama.
REPUBLICANS WHO WILL NOT SUPPORT LIBERALS (McCain/Palin) DRESSED AS CONSERVATIVES
O’Biden ’08
Thank you #s 23 & 24. No political party has exclusivity to morales and values. Republicans use it as a ploy to keep their “constituents” and I use that term very loosely eyes off the real issues, i.e. the economy, health care, education.
What we are witnessing now are the effects of Reaganomics. Since FIFIF is a Republican he/she should know that. Reagonomics is deregulation and free market. Well, welcome to hell baby, but at least those homos can’t get married.
What does your Bible say about taking care of the poor and widowed?!? These wedge issues are how we ended up in this mess in the first place. This is also exactly what Obama was talking about. People cling to their guns and religion because of their distrust in their goverment.
McCain has stated he doesn’t know a thing about economics and his stunt last week proved it.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and hoping for a different outcome.
You have to be an informed electorate and make a decision on what’s best for this Country and not your interpretation of morales and values.
HASTING WAS TELLING THE TRUTH.
Um wasn’t the Congressional Black Caucus always AGAINST Obama? Talk about jumping on the bandwagon…
Don’t forget to register people!!!!!!!!
after hearing the majority whip rep. clayburn explaination for his support of this giveaway bailout bill, and then not know what the bill entailed. and then not only did he not get his provisions included in the bill from which he claimed to have helped draft the legistration. he could not explain why the avg. person on main street wasn’t even going to benefit from this bill which he voted yes. roland martin of cnn and sybil of the tjms had him where he could not explain it. and clayburn passed the meaning and explaination of this bill off to his STAFFERS and lawyers in his office for interpetation. and he got FROSTY on top of that. i mean you can’t make this shit up [excuse my cussing]. while cheney/bush has run the economy in the ground, the people in the southeast and also in his VOTING DISTRICT have to push their cars to the gas stations cause they are running out of gas down there. and all bush had to do was get on the phone and get them oil reserves TAPPED for some immediate relief to the people in the souhteast who are overwhelmingly republican. but that would cut into the oil baron’s profits. “this is how much he cared about the red states in the south”. also bush told the folks in texas don’t worry their will be a 100% gov’t pay out on the cost to clean up the hurricane damage in the texas state. and new orleans is still struggling. this is the same ol flim-flam politics up on capital hill all them folks up there are shady. then clayburn calls back [tjms] to try and clean up his mess, he owes roland martin a call back to. anyone who votes yes for this bailout when the majority of the people who have put you in congress and the senate have said ‘NO’ need to vote your asses out. the people have spoke doesn’t that mean anything? this even got mccain and obama fak’n and shak’n. when them oil barons are to blame and are the ones who have destoryed the dollar, while collecting high oil profits. do you need your staff and lawyers to explain the pain of the people too you? rep. clayburn.
#1 LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO!!!
I must be alone ’cause I didn’t think # 1 comment was funny. *Shrugs*
I love how McCain calls it “gotcha journalism” with regards to the Palin interviews. He is VERY lucky the MSM hasn’t decided to show the Youtube Videos of Palin’s radical church on a non-stop continuous loop (the way they did with Reverend Wright).
The GOP cries that the media is biased, and more toward the left. And while that may be true (on both sides though), you can’t deny that they brought this firestorm fon themselves. In hiding Palin from the press for 3 weeks, and then crying about “sexism”, they did her no favors. This enticed the media and left leaning blogs to go after her the way they do now.
And the fact that she answer questions in the worst possible manner, with no substance behind her, she looks ridiculously unqualified to the people at large. When SNL can poke fun of your interview (without rewriting it extensively for comedic effect) that is a scary thing.
Also troubling, her not being able to name a single Supreme Court Case besides Roe vs Wade? Isn’t this a “Maverick Reformer” who has strong credentials when it comes to Energy Policy according to the McCain camp? So why the hell does she not know about the $2.8 Billion Dollar settlement from the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska that came down from the high court this past Summer.
Some reformer.
I want my President to be smarter than me. Look what the last dummy did for 8 years.

Proud Latino in Support of Obama
Furthermore, if McCain chose Mitt Romney as his running mate, he would be coasting right now.
Romney wouldn’t have been shielded from the press and he would have been able to talk about the economy (since it’s now ridiculously relevant).
Also, homeboy is RICH and a Governor. So he could have applied his budget/economic/executive experience.
In pandering to the invisible “PUMA” delegation of angry Hillary voters by choosing Palin, he so far has shot himself in the foot.
Way to go buddy.
THE TAX PAYER IS GOING TO SUFFER ,,,, THIS BAIL OUT IS GOING TO HIT HARD,,,, BE READY FOR THE AFTER EFFECT,,,,,
Why is everyone saying the New Yorker apologized? READ THE DAMN POST! The New Yorker didn’t apologize for the cover. The “apology” was from Hastings about her comment on the McCain/Palin ticket and how their plans don’t benefit the Jewish and A.A. community.
Im jus waiting for FOX news to cover the story on how UNFAIR the media is once again simply because they SP on the cover on the New Yorker lookin at Russia from her window…LMAO
I have a question….Am I the only who has noticed how “Right-Winged” bias FOX News is? I mean I was watching FOX late after the debate. And the cast had nothing but negative things to say about Obama in the debate. And then they get a democrate correspondent’s opinion, and he says he think’s McCain won. And then they had the nerve to get a BLACK FEMALE republican to comment, and of course she said McCain won also.
Now I kno this is getting lengthy, but here’s the killer…….FOX news did their “own” poll, and it resulted in McCain winning the debate 84% to Obama’s 14%. I was shocked. NO OTHER channel covering debate resulted in McCain winning, they all said Obama won. I was soooooooo disturbed by this.
@ 38 KELLZ
THANK YOU….I thought I was the only one. The New York wasn’t (nor will they ever) apologize for their views on candidates.
Everyone please make sure that you are registered to vote this week and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE remember to vote on November 4th. Vocal support is good, but voting on November 4th is everything!
Obama is not about change…he is for the Bailout!

THE TAX PAYER IS GOING TO SUFFER ,,,, THIS BAIL OUT IS GOING TO HIT HARD,,,, BE READY FOR THE AFTER EFFECT,,,,,
Thank you so much so stating this…and Obama has the nerve to support this…i thought he was for the poor and middle class…guess not!
its kind of funnt that when the polls show obama leading, his supporters dont refute them but if the same polls show something different all of a sudden they`re not real!! lol…john kerry was leading in most national polls in 2004, but we all know who won
Either some of you like it or not, religion and religious organizations are more powerful than the government, either you like it or not the constitution of this country takes its founding principles directly from the bible, therefore if peole have an oppostion to same sex marriage they have to 1) not vote for any candidate who is an advocate of such mess, 2) lobby and put their social, financial and political weight to make sure their voices are heard
black people say they love the lord but yet they have no problem trying to vote for someone who advocates for practices that the Lord condems, the bible is a package, either you accept the whole package or you reject…..choose your way
@ 42
I hate the idea of the bailout too, but it has to happen. Do you realize what will happen if banks start closing? Ever heard of the Great Depression?
If the bailout doesn’t happen, and if these companies continue to go under, it will trickle down & affect EVERYONE! Black, Latino, Jewish etc., poor/rich…everyone will be affected.
@ Pete
I agree completely. It’s hilarious, how outraged Obama supporters were when McCain was leading the polls 5+ points. All I read were comments like, “Who are they polling,” “I was never polled,” “It doesn’t matter what the polls say, Obama’s gonna win.” I’m actually scared to see what’ll happen if Obama loses…LOL. I fear John McCain won’t make it past the 5th of Nov., LOL
On a brighter note, a part of me does want Obama to win, so that my taxes can be lowered. But another part of me, wants him to suffer after what he did to HRC. I’m floating in limbo. However, my gut is telling me that Obama’s not gonna win.
Bush had everybody thinking the same thing about the Iraq war…and look what happen. Do you people not understand that you will have to pay this money back…meaning your taxes will be raised and you wont get all this money back. I agree with Ron Paul saying that this bailout is a bad idea…to buy up bad debt is not going to help the economy.
Ohioians can vote early like NOW!!!!….OBAMA/BIDEN, get to them polls people!!!!
Palin just digs herself more and more each day. Are all Republicans stupid? Maybe not, but she`s not making it better for anyone. Does she really think Russia is in her backyard? I guess so this is the same woman that thinks dinosaurs lived 4,000 years ago.
@ Sigh
I don’t see what is so hilarious about #1′s comment either. These are the same negroes that got mad when the little white boy wore the anti-Obama shirt though, lol.

OBAMA ’08 ((D REAL DEAL))
@ Pete
I was one of those people you guys are referring to who were outraged when McCain was leading in the polls. I was wondering who the hell these pollsters were polling because I am a registered voter and nobody called me. So my concerns were valid. What’s different about this time around? I actually got a call from one these pollsters asking me who I was voting for. Now I am not being naive to think, this phone call gave Obama the edge but it has lead me to believe that they are actually diversifying their research as oppose to just concentrating in rural red neck areas (probably in your town) where those racist bastards will not vote for Obama.
@ SiGH…
Come home, baby…don’t fight it….lol
No. 1 Is FU–NNY! so true probably too!!
Come on *Sigh*, do you really think that taxes will be lowered under Obama? That’s the biggest myth ever. Exactly how is Obama going to fund a 700 billion dollar bailout, a 850 billion dollar global tax, a war in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, and Universal Health care?
How on earth is he going to cut taxes for “95% of us?” Tax businesses? The same businesses that are taking a hit now? The same businesses that will pack up and move jobs overseas?
Let me ask a few questions:
If this bailout passes, do you know you will have to pay it via a TAX?
What is a 850 billion dollar global TAX?
How are we paying for all of these wars? TAX
What is Universal Health Care? A TAX.
So pretty please tell me how are you taxes going to DECREASE?
OH PLEASE!! It’s not like those polls are real, right Angel? Because when McCain was leading Obama it was “Those polls aren’t even real” but now that they’re the other way around I see y’all think they are mighty real. PUH-LEASE…NEXT–>
@ 52
Excuse my french but—you are full shyt! Now because Obama is ahead in the polls, you suddenly (and miraculously) recieve a phonecall from a pollster? GTFOH!
I have a landline & I’m a register voter, and I’ve never recieved a call. Not now & not when Obama was losing. At least I’m honest about it! LOL
As much as I hate Obama & his empty rhetoric, I may have to vote for him. Our economy is in the shytter, so it’ll benefit me to have those w/ incomes $250k + to be taxed. I still stand by comment that he ain’t got a snowballs chance in hell of winning. But for $$’s sake, I hope he does.
@ 54
Well it’s my understanding that the bulk of those taxes, that you speak of, will be affecting those w/ an income of $250k +. So please correct me if I’m wrong. I’ve never thought for a moment that we’d ever live in a tax free economy, however, I do feel that people w/ a less income should not be receiving higher taxes. I do think that Democrats are for the redistribution of wealth, which is the ONLY reason why I’d vote for him, whereas McCain would probably hit my pockets harder than Bush.
And if this bailout does work it will ultimately trickle down & help the American people. Banks & companies closing will BENEFIT NO ONE. If all these mega corporations continue to go under, do you know how much higher unemployment will be? Banks closing…I mean how do you think our economy will survive if none of these businesses are making money?
The bailout plan will have regulations to them. I believe that Obama was saying if the bailout is a success that the folks w/ lesser incomes (or those affected by mortgage crisis) will be benefited w/ higher tax cuts? Or something to that affect.
I just think people are more concerned w/ the amount $$ and how we got into the situation.
It’s like trying to put a band-aid on something that needs stitches.
@ 54
I meant to add, if a Democrat gets into office, there would be a redistribution of wealth
@ 58
At least the bandaid keeps it from infection…or getting worse.
