The Senate will vote Wednesday night in order to revive President Bush’s multi-billion dollar financial rescue plan. The plan failed in the House, but this version adds substantial tax cuts meant to appeal to Republicans when it reaches the House again.
Senate passage has seemed assured all along. But Senate leaders figure the House will have to approve it because the tax cuts are too appealing to Republicans and the financial rescue plan will still seem essential to most Democrats.
OBAMA’S CBC AWARD + LEADING MCCAIN
Barack Obama was recently honored with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s Phoenix award at the 38th Annual Legislative Conference dinner in Washington.
The award recognizes those who through their efforts and accomplishments have made significant contributions to society, and it symbolizes the immortality of the human spirit and an eternal desire to reach its full potential.
Obama is also enjoying a continued lead over Republican counterpart John McCain. According to the latest Gallup poll, Obama leads McCain 49-43.
PALIN NEW YORKER COVER + APOLOGY

With its October 6th cover, The New Yorker pokes a little fun at Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin for claiming that Alaska’s proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience.
Rep. Alcee Hastings, who recently told an audience that they should be wary of Palin because “anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks,” has apologized for his remarks.
Hastings issued a statement saying, “I regret the comments I made last Tuesday that were not smart and certainly not relevant to hunters or sportsmen.”
Hastings said he still backed the sentiment behind his initial remarks: “The point I made, and will continue to make, is that the policies and priorities of a McCain-Palin administration would be anathema to most African Americans and Jews. I regret that I was not clearer and apologize to Governor Palin, my host where I was speaking, and those who my comments may have offended.”

At 46! haha.. McCain won’t make it past the 5th of Nov.
I will say one thing though.. Even tho we all know i’m voting for the O.. after watching the debates.. it was really nice to see how passionate McCain was about helping our veterans get the medical help and counseling that they need.
The “trickle up” economics that Obama claims will help the country would only work if he kept ALL taxes low. Also, I just want to say that lower income people are not the ones that stimulate the economy. They typically cannot afford to purchase things outside of their immediate necessities. Giving them more money would not flood the economy at all. It will just keep them afloat. Granted, there are low income people over-extending themselves but once they ruin their credit, they are back to living check to check to pay the bills.
The solution is to get rid of restrictive taxes like capital gains, the death tax, etc. which forces higher income people to “hide” their money. It is the higher income folks that provide jobs, give $$ to nonprofits, fund research programs, etc. So if we want those things to continue, we have to come up with ways to convince the haves to help the have nots. Taxing them to death will not do that. All that does is breed resentment.
This is why socialism on the backs of taxpayers rubs people the wrong way. There are large portions of this society that need real help – but the government should not be providing it, especially when they do it so poorly. Let corporations, nonprofits and charities provide affordable housing, job training, day care vouchers, etc etc etc. They can do it more efficiently and for a lot less money than the bureaucratic government.
One of the reasons the entitlement system in America is so ineffective is because it offer no incentive for people to IMPROVE their lives.
This bailout will do nothing but make us all the “owners” of toxic assets that no one else wants.
Pete- is that short for St. Peter? Because last time I checked God didn’t write comments in the cl forum, but hey, maybe I missed something. I also take it that you are 100% sin free and follow the bible everyday with ALL of your actions, since it is a package and all. Pete, tell me something else, how many adopted and/or foster children you have? Surely, you are doing something for all of those children, particulary black children, that grow up in the system. Abortion is a sin, but it’s ok to allow the senseless killing of children in the streets everday, send them to a war that was started for no reason and allow them to starve in countries across the world, because hey, at least they were born. Whenever the Republicans decide to get off of their soap boxes and want to actually start working in the community, let me know. In the meantime, I will continue to work with underserved children with my moral-less, sinning ass.
I wish you hadn’t apologized Rep. Alcee Hastings, you speak the TRUTH, look at Bush and his response to Hurricane Katrina!!! What will change “IF” the GOP is elected, not a da** thing!!
OBAMA ’08
I got my voter registration card in the mail & ready to go!!
*SIGH* – What did Obama do to Hilary Clinton? She brought her failure on herself. Mainly because that’s all she talked about was herself. She probably racked up all that debt looking for dirt on Obama and couldn’t find anything worth bringing up.
He had plenty of chances to bring out her dirt, but he never did, did he? And I know you’re not naive to think she is squeaky clean. I was going to vote for Hillary, but she left a bad taste in my mouth during the primaries which is why she got what was coming to her. So please stay out of the woman’s cooch. You don’t have to support Obama but don’t start yelling about what YOU THINK he did to her. Keep Living pimpin’.
Pete – The constitution may take its principles from the bible, but over half of the population doesn’t live by it. Please. People lie, cheat, steal, fornicate and murder everyday – some of which are a part of the government – but gay marriage is the worst, right? No sin is greater than the other right? So It’s okay to vote for McCain’s lying ass because he’s against gay marriage? LOL. Is gay marriage worst than
lying? Is gay marriage worse than adultery? Please, enlighten us Pete. You need to keep living too.
I think the cover of the New Yorker is hilarious!
@ Kia
Sis, if you don’t mind me asking…..what is the origin of the black woman’s absolute OBSESSION with hom*sexual rights? It staggers me how many black women will go all out for hom*sexuals but will not have a peep to say concerning racism AT ALL.
@ SIGH…
Even though you dissed me and you deserved the full lenght of my wrath I will hold my tongue this time….furthermore, you said you’re voting for Obama – that helped you too.
Just don’t do it next time.
Then will wonder why they have the highest rate of AIDS and HIV by a mile, lol……
@ Judas…
Well, I must say, for the first time I agree with you…Hey, even a broken clock is right twice a day…lol
Black women will align themselves with struggles of the homosexuals rather than align themselves with the black struggles. The homos are a sympathetic group in this society; white people and ignorant blacks will look to other races, ethnic and religious groups, or social class to be sympathetic towards rather than having sympathy for the black man. They would rather tell us to “get over it,” “look how far we’ve come,” God will provide, or He never gives a man more than he can bear,”
Its history…the black race is the only race that has not been compensated for our misfortunes caused by the Whiteman. The Indians got money and tax free status and the imposters (we know them as Jews today) were compensated. All they do is tell is to shut up and be happy the Whiteman came and got us because if it weren’t for the Whiteman, we’d still be in Africa running around with spears and bone in our noses. Utter ignorance.
It always amazes me when people that always contend with me feel the need to tell me that they “agree” with me, lmao. Do I seem like the kind of person that gives a sh*t? Maybe it’s because so many people are infatuated with tedious and fruitless argumentation.
please can somebody pull sen. obama’s coat tail. and tell him that another stimulus pkg. would be an INSULT to the avg. american who has loss jobs, homes, 401 k’s, people now that have to start from zero all over again. and if he thinks that another couple of hundred dollors is going to heal or fix the wounds of the devastation while people continue to suffer, and the rich few and wall get another chance. this is not change it is the same ol crap and minority whip BOEHENER is going to give you fits if you make it to the white house. your thinking the a few hundred dollars [stimulus] again is going to heal the pain of people. man you can’t make this [excuse me] shit up. you are sounding now like a seasoned politiction. like the roman empire the people revolted cause the ones in charge took the people for granted by over taxing them while the few got all the breaks and the riches. what are you folks thinking? up on crooked oh i mean captial hill.
Judah,
Why do you assume I am obsessed with gays? Did you draw that conclusion from my comment? Wow! All I wanted to know is why people consider being gay the worst of all sins. Also, what makes you think I’m going all out for gays? Just because I’m a black woman you want to make these assumptions. Okay, well good luck with that. I was raised to love everyone and not judge. I was taught to pray for who seem as though they have lost their way. I come from MS so I know racism first hand which in turn made me a racist. I could not stand the white man. But by being that way I am know better than he is.
It’s cool though. You can be against me if you want. Now let’s talk about the black man. With all these black men running around with their white women, I wonder if some of them know that if you were broke and crusty they wouldn’t give your black asses the time of day? Well whatever. I’m going to keep living too.
“sigh” give it up, your gut is dead wrong. come november, barack will win and in january, he will be president.
@ 74
We’ll see..
@ Kia
I’m not even about to rehash the episodes that took place during the primaries..I know what Obama did & his action (or rather the actions of his campaign) did not go by unnoticed, hence the lack of support from her (Hillary’s supporters).
@ 68
I’ll do & say as I please. If you don’t like it, then don’t read it. Oh & btw, my ‘support’ (and I use the word loosely) is not personal nor is it even emotional. It is strictly business. I’ll do what I have to, in order to protect my finances.
