POLITICS: VOTERS MOVE TOWARD OBAMA / MCCAIN’S ‘WILLFUL IGNORANCE’ / PALIN’S SHOPPING SPREE

Barack Obama greeting a young supporter in Chantilly, Virgina on Wednesday afternoon.

The latest Pew Research Center findings show religious voters are gradually gravitating to Barack Obama as their pick for president. Obama is also leading McCain 51-42 in the latest Gallup poll which tracks the percentage of registered voters who say they would support each candidate if the presidential election were held today.

With a few states already voting early and the U.S. presidential election occurring in less than two weeks, look out for Concrete Loop’s upcoming Voting Etiquette Guide.

MCCAIN’S ‘WILLFUL IGNORANCE’

On Tuesday, Barack Obama said that John McCain offers little more than “willful ignorance, wishful thinking, outdated ideology” to the economic crisis.

While President Bush and Sen. McCain were ready to move heaven and earth to address the crisis on Wall Street, the president has failed so far to address the crisis on Main Street, and Sen. McCain has failed to fully acknowledge it,” Obama said at a jobs summit in Florida.

Obama said that McCain’s to the economic crisis doesn’t offer enough to those worried about their jobs, homes and lifestyles:

“Instead of commonsense solutions, month after month, they’ve offered little more than willful ignorance, wishful thinking, outdated ideology.”

PALIN’S SHOPPING SPREE

According to Politico, the Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize Sarah Palin and her family since John McCain picked her in August.

The McCain-Palin campaign released a statement: “With all of the important issues facing the country right now, it’s remarkable that we’re spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses. It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign,” said McCain-Palin spokesperson Tracey Schmitt.

What’s ‘remarkable’ is how stupid this is, especially during a financial crisis, writes Marc Ambinder.

It wasn’t too long ago that John Edwards caught grief for his $400 haircut, but it would have taken him over seven years of getting one of those haircuts to spend what Palin has spent.

Perhaps Palin should put the shopping sprees on hold and find out what it is that the vice president actually does.

    ….OBAMA 08′

  2. If Palin was a man would they have spent that amount of money on campaign suits? I’m leaning towards no, this further proves the superficial reason as to why she was picked to be VP.

Looks like the real sexists are in the republican party.

  3. jenny

    yep…..dats wat it is!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. God's Girl

Perhaps it would be in the best interest of the Republican party to realize that they have made a fool of a choice for President and VP. WE have all this crisis going on in the Us and they can spend over 150K for sara palin wardrobe. Might I add that I have not seen anything yet that she wears that is so impressing. Then to add insult to injury they say oh ” we are gonna donate the clothes to charity” Please!!!!! Obama/Biden 08!

  5. YUP

I can’t wait to vote.. I just got my registration card and Im so ready to use it.

And thanks for the upcoming voting etiquette CL…some people just dont know

  7. Not_An_Angell

I don’t know any hockey/soccer moms that spend that much on clothes.

  8. littlebit2006

I wish someone would give me 150,000 to go shopping with shoot.

  9. CGJ

BUT, have you seen the McCain campaign’s latest flyer with “Terrorist” on the front and a picture of BO on the inside? McCain says he’s “absolutely proud” of the new flyer. There are no words to describe – why are they (the Republican’s) trying to insite fear and hatred to win a campaign? Oh my bad, that’s the same thing Bush did a few years ago… McCain is trying to make this campaign about race, because he can’t stand on the issues.

And I’m sure the RNC feels that the discussion of spending $150K on Palin and her family is “petty in light of today’s economic crisis.” It was also “petty” for Cindy McCain to spend 27K on 1 outfit for 1 appearance. It’s petty that the McCain’s own 6 homes; it’s petty that McCain left his first wife to marry his jump-off.

Yeah, all of that “petty” stuff says a lot about McCain and Palin’s core values.

  10. thaijae

    lol @ 7.

$150K for what??? Lipstick and hooker boots??

  11. Inpsiring Change

It’s very interesting to me to see how Sarah Palin prides herself in being an “outsider, a reformer” and yet she seems to be doing everything that she can (or at least the McCain-Palin campaign is) to make her more “mainstream”.

I watched a bit of the interview that Palin and McCain did with Brian Williams and he flat out asked what is her definition of “pre-conditions” and she still hasn’t answered it yet. I find it hard to believe that the campaign have yet to brief her on “her” attacks on the Obama Biden ticket. She doesn’t even know what a vice president does, and yet she has more executive experience than Obama! Come on people

It amazes me just how much the media is trying hard not to come accross as sexist, or harder on her because she’s a republican, but don’t we need to be hard on the people running for two of the highest positions in the country and ultimately the world? If she is this ill prepared for interviews with the media asking her straight forward questions, what are we to think about her capability and competence to hold the highest position, if it were to come down to it?

Also watching that interview I noticed how tense McCain and Palin were. She seemed as if though she was seeking approval from him or help from him on just about every question. It seems to me that McCain is trying to convince himself that he made the right decision every time he speaks of her “qualifications”….

At the end of the day I just want people to get out there and VOTE!
No matter who your voting for people it is important to exercise your right!

  12. DOB

I’m excited to see the Voting Etiquette Guide! This is my second time voting but my first time actually going to the polls.

  13. Poboi

If everyone could just vote with a blind eye, this would be the largest landslide election in history….

  14. tg

Personally, I don’t trust ANYTHING out here that has to do with the Government. So I know it looks good for Obama, but people better be prepared for the worst. Because unfortunately, we aint running nothing in this country as much as we think we are. I’ve known that, but through everything going on – it’s being confirmed. Billions of dollars being spent on a war – half the country doesn’t want. Billions of dollars be giving to Fat Cats – half the country doesn’t want. Who EXACTLY is giving the OK on all these BS things – it aint us. So actually we don’t have say in SHIT that happens in this country and we won’t have say in who gets elected either. If they want to rig the election – who is going to know. The few that run the country run EVERYTHING in it, too. I’m keeping it positive in my heart – but I’m serious preparing for the worst. You think Black people are slick and I say you aint seen the likes of slick YET. How many times has the government lied to the millions and gotten away with it? As long as they keep the streets clean on top of the hill – white people will let them get away with anything because they never have to suffer despite their actions. But let them suffer and then laws, etc. EVERYTHING gets changed.

  15. MANDY

    $ 150,000? Lipstick on a pig.:-)

Vote early if you can people. I voted already. My husband tried to vote today and he was # 405. Luckily, they announced that another poll had no wait time. He drove 10 minutes and was done in 5 minutes. Be patient and dont give up!! VOTE!!!! Nov 4 will be a mess.

  16. Ninagirl1

That pic is so cute……….Early Voting in Florida started on Monday……..we are breaking records and supporting Obama like its no tomorrow. Wait time have been reported to be as long as 3 hours at some sites. But everyone has had a great attitude and no one is complaining about the wait instead being proud to make the difference that can brighten up the future for all people.

  17. Jenniferlynn

If they announce that McCain is the next president of the United States on Nov 4th I will be seriously DEPRESSED! Not for myself, but for my two small children. Obama may not be perfect, but he is exactly what we need. Please vote. It’s so important.

  18. Big M

I wonder what the Clinton campaign spent on her wardrobe/pantsuits. Because if spending $150K still leaves you looking like a hooker in short skits and go go boots, dressing with class must cost at least twice that amount. Wouldn’t you say?

  19. IM STILL PARTIAL TO THE POLITICS AND CANT WAIT TILL THIS SHYT IS OVER.

  20. nycqueen

im so ready 4 the this election to be over….OHHH THE ANXIETY OF IT ALL!!…. i’m just yearning to hear ” And the new president of the United States of America is Barack Obama!!!!”….i swear im gon be boo hoo bawling up and down my block. lol

  21. Whatchusay?

Why are they spending that much money on Palin AND her family? I’m taking donations shoot. Me and my husband have bills and a baby on the way. What could WE do with $150k…

  22. MANDY

“But everyone has had a great attitude and no one is complaining”

    @NINAGIRL1
My husband and I noticed that too. We were so proud to see that more than half of the over 400 there were black. They were all so friendly and more than a few people greeted us with “brother” and “sister”. Why cant we be like this towards each other all the time? I wont complain though. I will take it when I can get it.

    I voted for “that one”.

  23. Tate

The saddest part about the $150K shopping spree is the excuse that “she needed clothes”and that the clothes will go to charity…Palin and her trashtastic family is the charity…The wardrobe is worth more than she makes in a year…pure foolishness on behalf of the Republican ticket…Putting trash in a pretty package, and still having the audacity to justify it! Send the b*tch to Wal-Mart…thats what she should be accustomed to!

  24. McLAME & Failin' STOP IT!

Reading the article about the roles of a Vice President, has me COMPLETELY convinced that Sarah Failin’ is on the ticket simply for the tits and *ss factor…McLame was desperate…and brought this chick in simply for visual purposes…I bet he’s pissy now, because she has proven to be a bigger liability than his doped up wife! Pregnant unmarried teenage daughter…check. Scandal upon scandal, upon scandal…check. Wasting taxpayer money on family travel…check. McLame no one will fault you if you just bow out gracefully NOW!!!

  25. Shelly B

Let’s be honest people…a lot of us are voting for Obama because he is black and I feel like if that is what gets you to vote OH WELL! But let’s be clear, Palin is a pawn and unfortunately we are taking are frustrations out on her. We know that McCain chose Palin because he wanted the Angry White Women vote let over from Clinton. Had Hillary won the nomination, the Republican VP would probably be black for the Angry Black People Vote. McCain is smart and so is the Republican Party. They seen an opening and took it by using the whitest women in the American to face off against the big black mean man. They want the women to empathize with her because she is a mom and the men to feel like they have to protect “lily” like they did in the ’50′s and ’60′s. The $150,000 would have been used on a man if he was a Hill-Billy like Palin. You can’t be in the White House in Flannel carrying a moose gut pouch holding a hunting rifle. And on a side not…I seen Palin on SNL and she was great. If she wasn’t so “backwater” and a staunch Republican, we could be friends!

  26. Brandi

    @ #5.
Me too. I` m so happy and cannot wait. November 4 can`t come fast enough!

I see the American people are finally seeing Palin for what she is.

  27. T.Lynn

**I get why people are upset about the hyprocracy shown by Sarah’s spending on the wardrobe but I’ve been checking out the blogs on CNN.com and FOXNews.com (even though fox would still support Sarah Palin if she came out in KKK robe) but most of them don’t seem to mind paying for it. I guess those hockey moms shop at Nieman Marcus too. Now I dont know how Alaskans feel about her charging them to fly her kids around and put them up in hotel suites. I’d be pissed but since I’m not voting for that ticket, I could care less. Just another reason they’re going to lose!!

**Obama just got done speaking here in Nap, IN. and I got motivated to go vote early but the lines are already 2 hours long!! don’t forget to NOT WEAR ANY PRESIDENTIAL PARAPHANALIA SO YOU WON’T GET TURNED AWAY!!!

  28. calicarmelhottie

thats a waste of money….. you get a jenny jones makeover and still can’t convince america that you are fit for vice president. you need to pay them back…….

  29. MRSJONES3

12 DAYS UNTIL THE ELECTION AND THIS IDIOT PALIN IS STILL GIVEN HALF-WITTED ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS. AND THERE ARE STILL PEOPLE THINKING OF VOTING FOR THESE TWO?? WFT??

  30. MRSJONES3

DAMN GOT ME SO RILED UP I TURNED DISLEXIC. I MEANT “GIVING HALF-WITTED ANSWERS” AND WTF. LOL

  31. Ms Ke

So, i’ve come to the conclusion that Palin = Puppet. But a bad puppet she is. The Grand Ole Party just continues to insult our intelligence. Its sad and dishartening…

  32. ☆ Lola A♏ ★

Vote early because the polls are going to be crowded! Expect delays, but vote!

  33. DROCK

Do u know how many outfits Palin could have gotten at Target/Marshall’s/T.J Maxx/H&M??? She is a fake!! Middle class Hockey Mom my arse!! Damn country going into a recession and these GOP fools went and spent $150 G’s of donated monies in less than 2 months for a freaking red leather jacket, etc??? She does not know the job of a V.P., doesn’t know what magazines she reads, doesn’t know that there is no such thing as a city being “More Pro-American” than other cities….Everything General Powell said on Sunday was right on point when it came to McCain’s judgement on picking Palin as V.P. Hell, I would not pick her to speak to my son’s pre-school class…

  34. T.Lynn

Palin is just gearing up to run in 2012. I bet she throws her hat in the Repub. primaries!! If you look now, you dont even really see McCain, you see her more then you see him! She and Todd need to worry about giving those depositions tomorrow!! Boy I hope they indict her!!

  35. Cyn

CL please please fix the margins on here! I will comment then I guess.

  36. danica

@CYN.. i said the same things about margins on here. i stopped commenting on here because you cant read them anyways.

  37. ShyandKillingit

I am voting tonight…WISCONSIN stand up!!!

  38. HOTMOMMA001

I am about to bust my side from some of these comments! Yall are too doggone funny!

I agree with the posts that state that McCain is now upset that he selected Palin because she is more of a liability to the GOP and they did not bargain for this. Yea, the $150K clothing bill does not make for “good press” but hell, they’ll still find a way to justify it.

Have you all heard of those states where the polls are switching Obama votes to McCain? People, please pay close attention to your polling machine when you are casting your vote. Also, if you have moved since the last election, you will be required to complete a “statement of residence” card. You will need to fill it out and hand it in before or after you cast your ballot. Hand it to one of the polling volunteers. If you leave with this card, your vote WILL NOT be counted!

I voted early and had to turn around and return to the polls because the older “white” volunteer would not accept my card. So, I gave it to a “black” volunteer.

Yall be careful because we don’t want to be hoodwinked or bamboozled this time around! OBAMA 2008 baby!

  39. I MADE SURE ON MONDAY 10/20 I DID MY DUTY AS A CITIZEN AND VOTED.

    “OBAMA 08″

  40. Tianni

WOW!! someone on here said that there are polling achines that switches peoples votes from OBAMA to MCCAIN? I to look more into that information, because I am voting for OBAMA for damn sure come November 4th, & I am going to be a screaming fool when they announce him as the President of the United States!

This is HUGE people, be apart of HISTORY in the making, & VOTE!!! (If you are of age & still have not registered, that is a damn shame in itself)!

    Lets do this people!

  41. dee

I don’t care how much they spend on her she still looks like a plain Jane. When this is over maybe she can get a makeover. She is a fool and McCain threw away his campaign once he selected her as his running mate. Just to hear her talk makes me so mad (No one speaks proper English in Alaska). She is a mess…..Their campaign was to smear Obama’s name and what he believes in for this country, but everytime it backfires.

    ~Obama 08~

  42. *P*Y*T*QC'SFINEST

@26.SHELLY B. SARAH PALIN MIGHT’VE BEEN GREAT ON SNL, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO SOMETHING THAT REALLY MATTERS SHE FAILS MISERABLY. YES, OBAMA IS BLACK AND THATS A WONDERFUL THING BUT HE CARES ABOUT EVERYBODY NOT JUST THE RICH PEOPLE. I DON’T CARE WHO WAS RUNNING, BLACK MAN OR NOT I’M PRETTY SURE THE SAME PEOPLE VOTING FOR OBAMA STILL WOULDN’T VOTE FOR MCAIN/PALIN ANYWAY… JUST MY OPINION.

  43. Dame(loving Life)

**********I voted yesterday so I am ready for Nov 4th

  44. RP1

Ewwwww…. John is old as sh*t!!!!

  45. Sade

I find it funny , amusing that I dont see the usual Black Republican Suspects posting in this thread. HAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!

I also find it funny Michelle Obama can spend $148 on a dress and still look down right freakin FABULOUS and chic and this Palin broad spends $150k on her wardrobe and still look fugged up.

#26, I totally agree with you. I want to see a black man, even if he is partially black become president. I dont give a damn what these other loons say. Im for Barack Obama all day.

  46. tmoney

Shelly B – Obviously there is alot of excitement surrounding the prospect of a black president. But is it too hard to believe that he’s just the better candidate? Why can’t we be voting for the better candidate who happens to be black? What’s the alternative? McCain? who doesn’t appear to give a rats about the low/middle class. It’s clear that Obama has our interests at heart regardless of his race.

  47. VOTE EARLY!!!!!

Sarah Failin doesn’t even know what a VP does huh? I am not surprised. Anyway, I voted early and it took me about an hour. I urge everyone to go ahead and VOTE EARLY because if the lines are this long now, you can imagine what they’ll be on November 4th. If you do decide to vote early and happen to be in a long line, don’t get discouraged and put it off for another day… follow through. The lines move at a steady pace. O and I must say that I felt a bit of relief after voting. This election has gotten to me but after voting I felt a whole lot better.

  48. OB4PRES ( IVOTED)

I voted today..YAY!!! Sarah is as dumb as rocks. She irks the hell out of me especially with her annoying voice. Say it ain’t so Joe. I knew they bought those clothes you know she didn’t pick them out.

  49. Dree

    OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  50. DarkEmpress

Im not a Palin fan, but it doesn’t seem like that much money since designer gear does cost a lot and she is always next to cindy mccain who is decked out head to toe in designer gear because she is rich enough to afford it. I’m sure 70% of the money is spent on her but they also dress her husband and kids.

  51. morganstate

barack obama is easily the most logical candidate for candidate. Palin is a joke no matter what she wears or does to her hair so I don’t know why they spent so much money on her. smdh
I have already voted for president by absentee ballot and I hope all the other people in the nation make the right presidential choice.

  52. lmao@148

“I also find it funny Michelle Obama can spend $148 on a dress and still look down right freakin FABULOUS and chic and this Palin broad spends $150k on her wardrobe and still look fugged up.”

anyway,$150,000 is such a ridiculous amount of money to be spending on clothing especially when she never looks anything other than plain and boring….

  53. WHO ASKED YOU?

    I voted today…..FOR MCCAIN!!

Yes I did. And I’m proud of It!

To whomever said something to the extent of, Michelle Obama looks fabulous and Sarah palin looks “fugged”. Umm, lets be honest. Sarah Palin is WAY more beautiful than Michelle. I’m not saying this because I am a McCain supporter but to be straight out honest. Michelle resembles and African cat/Monkey and Sarah has a very pretty face. Some people don’t take great photos and I’ve seen Palin and real life and she is absolutely stunnning.

  54. WTF?

    @ 56 —- THE QUESTION IS WHO THE H3LL ASKED U??? U SOUND SO
IGNORANT. NOBODY CARES ABOUT CLOTHES AT THE END OF
THE DAY IT’S ABOUT WHATS BEST FOR AMERICAN PEOPLE. YOU
NEED TO SIT DOWN. CHECK OUT MICHELLE’S CREDENTIAL’S AND
COMPARE THEM TO SARAH’S… WOW! THIS SHYT IS CRAZY!

  55. BlackBird

the problem is not that she spent that much on the outfits. the problem is that WHEN YOU CAMPAIGN ABOUT THE RECESSION TO POOR PEOPLE… YOU SPENDING THAT MUCH ON A DAMN WARDROBE IS A SLAP IN THE FACE, especially during these times.. its the irony that makes it wrong

  56. Change- verb,to change one's opinions or intentions

Voting for Obama based on color is just as ignorant as anything McCain has ever said before….however there are white people that won’t vote for Obama just because he is black so there you have it ignorance has no color…..

Dont’ just vote because it’s your right vote because you are an informed voter… you know how many senators there are for each state…what your Congressman’s role is and because you know how the system and governing works and how it trickles down. The affect and effect of your pulling that lever…….
