For some reason, i can’t see the video….but it must truly be history for a 86 year old man to live during the time where a black man WILL BE president…..He was around when slavery was a real thing, not something taught in the history books, and now he will see a black man take his vows and become president of the free nation….truly full circle for him.

@ #9 Yes you may consider him being mixed but if he was robbing a bank, carjacking, or doing any other criminal activity you would say he was black.

Yes I know the color of his skin does not matter but can you please let us (African Americans) take our moment of pride. Even if he was pure Cauccasian, I would still vote for him because of his standards and character. But the point is he is a great man, with high morals, bright vision, wonderful family, and he happens to be and consider himself BLACK!!! Love Yourselves and embrace who God made us.

@ 9 - Honey, let’s not go there on this post please. The fact of the matter is, there are hundreds of thousands of African American people that have NEVER thought about voting until now. Why? 1) Barack Obama is an intelligent, strong, polished and refined BLACK man; 2) America needs change for the next generation; 3) Republicans have once again ruined the American economy; 4) John F. Kennedy predicted it 40 years ago; and 5) A Black man has finally paid his dues and is now SUITABLE to be President of the United States of America when there were times when Blacks could not even drink from the same doggone water/drinking fountain as Whites. So, please, accept everyone’s own personal views and/or reasons for voting for Barack Obama for what it is! THEIR CHOICE!

Anyway, back to the post, this was a very monumental moment. I didn’t cry, but I certainly felt it in my heart!

Please vote everyone! November 4th, 2008

I have respect for what the brother must have went through in his life but this video is an example of the exploitation of the elderly at it’s finest. Roosevelt is the reason why America is going into the economic straits that it is going through right now. He is the one that went away from gold. Furthermore, it’s easy for white people to sit around and act lovey dovey with an 86 year old black man. He is no longer viewed as a threat.

Agree with #16. If he was in a compromising situation with the law, he would be an African-American. Half African-American ALWAYS African-America. Even the News media are calling him black. End of that.

Charles is an inspiration. I am so happy that he got to meet Barack. It is important that we go to our elders. As #7 said, they are our vision of history.

This video was so touching…I’ve been so disturbed by tragic events from the bouts of trying to kill Barack to the Hudson family murders…It was very refreshing to see Charles and the love he is receiving and giving to people..We need more people like Charles in this world. 36.

Wednesday, October 29, 2008 /

Regardless of wether u like Obama, or McCain. People you need to exercise your right to vote, and get involved on the local level so we can start changing some of the outdated procedures, starting with the electoral vote. It makes no sense to have this in place any longer. The people should be able to choose who they wish to represent them, as a country. Remember, Obama can’t change a thing. McCain can’t make it any worse, and the situation we’re in as a country is not Bush’s fault.

Our future soley lies on how we as a country get involved with the policies that affect us. If your Senator doesn’t vote the way you like you have a right not to vote them back in office. WE HAVE TO get more involved politically in our country. We as a country are too self involved and selfish, and the truth of the matter, is that is what as led us to where we are now. We’ve allowed ourselves as a country to fall away from God, and loose our morale values. Don’t believe me Watch MTV, and BET is not that far behind.

Now is the time to wake up and take stock on what’s going on around, and do it before it’s too late. It’s a very serious situation out there.

Their putting us in an era that we do NOT need to go back to! That’s not good, their teching young children to hate and bring hatred out in older ones as well.

#9 - HE IS BLACK….This is a historical moment. Get with it, or Get over it. We are going to make a big deal about it. Not only is he black, he is an intelligent african american that will be the next president. Oh yeah, it’s a big deal. This is history in the making and it takes so much energy to talk sideways about something. I have more sense to know that it is his character and everything else that makes him a great candidate. But as a black woman, I am estactic that he is running for president, and more so that he is a black man…period. If any other african american can’t comprehend this excitement, then something is wrong with them. I don’t care if he 99% white and 1% black…We finally have a black president..period..

Boy, I hate it when people try to make a moment out of nothing..just be happy for once. Positive energy is healthy energy…say it with me…

People who are upset with Obama being labled as the First possible Black President, really should stop putting their personal issues of race to take away from this momentus historical achievement for this African American. Although, Obama is biracial, he’s a black man. His mother the strong woman that she was, embedded black pride and black identity in him along time ago. Maya his sister, said in an interview that their mother would tell her to look at the First Black President, or your brother will be the first black President of the United States. Obama identified himself as a black man, he didn’t grow up around black people but unlike many who are biracial, he decided to seek out the community for himself, and became so involve that he became a community organizer working in the desolate and deprived inner city helping those he didn’t have any contact with.

His sister Maya was asked about his identity, and she said that she see her brother as a black man, because that is how he see himself. His other family see him as a black man. The world see him as a black man. So, just because some biracial people want to separate Obama’s blackness from him, to justify their self-identification is really sad.

And if people really want to scientifically lable blackness, by percentage wise, than Obama would be more black than an African American who isn’t biracial . Because his father is pure African, 100% black, and his mother isn’t actually white but Jewish, and it’s a known historical, biological fact that Jewish people have negroid blood. Whereas , Black Americans are a hybrid, we are not a pure race, we are a admixture of African, Caucaisian, American Indian, Asian, and sometimes more than that. Any sociology book will tell you that black is a social term given to us to discriminate those who are in this country.

WTF are you talking about? The 85 yr old black man isn’t a threat, BUT they (”whites”) are campaigning and registering people to vote for the 46 yr old black man!!! According to your logic, B.O should be the bigger threat, yet they want him in office just as much as we do! Black people alone didnt get the man to where he is in this election.

All white people do not have the same mentality just as all us blacks don’t have the same. Think before you speak.

#64 I like what you wrote! This is definately a historical moment and I for one intend to soak up every ounce of it for all it is worth. I was born in the 60’s when we were dying for the right to vote, raised during the 70’s when we were bussed out of the ‘hood’ to desegregate schools, gaining my independence and growing into womanhood during the 80’s when the hiphop generation was born, became a mother and started to raise my own family during the 90’s (the Clinton Era), and now in the new millenium I have the honor and the privilege of witnessing history in the making. I look forward to sharing this with my future grandchildren. I voted today for Barack Obama because I agree with his policies and his plans for this nations’ future. I voted today with pride and an awareness of the historical significance for a black man and I thought about alot of people while waiting in that line for 45 minutes: Malcolm, Martin, and Medgar; Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner; Viola Liuzzo a 39 year old white mother from Detroit who was killed in 1965 for supporting our voting rights and transporting blacks to register to vote; and many others who fought and died for me to stand in that line. This is not the first time I voted and God willing it won’t be the last, but it definately had a special meaning for me this time around and I am not ashamed of that fact nor will I apologize for it. God bless America and God Bless Barack Obama!

@2..

First off, Obama is HALF black. You black people act as though he came from the deepest darkest streets of Ghettoville, when clearly he is HALF white and raised with his WHITE mother. So stop trying to claim him like he is one of us. I know in America if you have any percentage of black in you you’re automatically black, BUT I don’t go by those rules. He is just as much black as he is white. If Obama was fully white Hillary will be running, let’s face it. You black people don’t give two shits what he stands for, all he does is sit on that stage and yell change and you like it. PLEASE OBAMA, GET REAL!

Obama will tax me more, 1 reason why I say HELL NO to him. He went to that demonic Church and claims to be a Christian another reason why I say HELL NO to him. Stands for gays, stands for abortion, I will say HELL NO to him. He belives in “sharing the whealth around” Wigger, HELL NO!!

I didn’t go to college and work my ass off for OBEMER to tax me more. He is basically punishing me because I’m whealthy. If people want money, they need to work for it. If they’re too lazy, then that is just too damn bad.

Sorry but I want a man leading my country who has experience. And knows what they’re doing. Obama will not win and you guys need to understand that. He WILL NOT. NEVER, EVER! Do you really think that he will win? Honestly. Let’s be real. At the end of the day, those same WHITE people cheering for Obama will be at the booth like “do I really want a black man leading this country?” And will not vote for him. You guys gotta get real. He will not win, never ever.

@61..

I don’t give a FUCK what Obama *sees* himself as. The point is his mother was white and his father is black. Therefore he is just as much black as he is white. So I am black, let me consider myself Asian..So i guess I’m Asian, right?

You said….”his mother isn’t white she’s Jewish”….WHAT THE HELL? Jewish people are white. You say that Jews have negroid blood. Definitely not all Jews. No your facts hunny. People only say that because Jews ancestors generated from off the nouthern side of Egypt. Being close to Africa does not mean you have ‘negroid’ blood.

Jews = Whites. When you move into a town they give the population of African-Americans, Whites, Asians, Spanish. Saying Jews are not white is like saying Italians aren’t white. Jamaicans aren’t black. Bajans aren’t black. Puerto Ricans aren’t spanish. Jew is not a race.

@78 maybe Obama wont change the world but you have no Idea how big and historic this will be if he wins tues you can analyize policies and look for as many faults you want but if America elects Mccain/Palin(SMH) they deserve everything that happens after that. I bet you voted for Bush too

PEOPLE LIKE CHARLES REALLY INSPIRE ME TO BE A BETTER PERSON, AND TO TURN A BLIND EYE TO ALL THE NEGATIVITY AND BIGOTRY I’M FACED WITH ON A DAILY BASIS,I JUST WISH THAT MY PARENTS WERE AROUND TO SEE OBAMA MAKE IT THIS FAR. AND TO THE IDIOT, WHO STATES THAT OBAMNA IS NOT BLACK, ACCORDING TO THE LAWS INACTED BY THE RACIST SETTLERS OF THIS COUNTRY, ONE CLAUSE DICTATES THAT IF ONE HAS EVEN 1 DROP OF BLACK BLOOD, HE IS THEN CONSIDERED BLACK. SO TO ME HE IS BLACK, I UNDERSTAND THAT HE IS OF MIXED HERITAGE, WE ALL ARE OF MIXED HERITAGE, DATS WHY U SEE SO MANY LIGHT SKINNED BLACKS, NO ONE IS OF 1 PURE RACE, HOWEVER, OBAMA CLEARLY IDENTIFIES HIMSELF AS AFRICAN AMERICAN, THEREFORE I WILL ACKNOWLEDGE HIM AS SUCH, DON’T U DARE TRY TO TAKE THIS MOMENT OF PRIDE AWAY FROM AFRICAN AMERICANS, U CAN TAKE THAT SH*T ELSEWHERE!!!

This thread is hilarious.

Obama is beyond black; he is African. Kenyan-American to be specific. If Obama isn’t black, then most African Americans aren’t even close to being black — phenotypically and otherwise. At least he has his name and native culture & lineage to show for it.

I agree that most whites are voting for Obama (1) To excise their white guilt, and (2) Because they imagine him to be inculcated by white culture, and therefore safe/non-threatening. I also agree that many whites who claim to support him will never vote for him or any black man.

MCCAIN ‘08 (aka MIXEDCHICK): You sound like a bitter, confused, mixed-up slave. Also, you can’t say that “Jew is not a race” and then say “Jews = White,” unless critical thinking wasn’t part of your college curriculum. I seriously doubt that your illiterate ass makes anything “nouth” of a quarter million dollars per anum. And yes, Puerto Rican’s aren’t Spanish. Please “no” your facts.

I just have to comment on this one…I have never made a comment on CL, but I’ve been a long time fan. With that said I notice that some people put up negative posts just to get negative comments, because they are negative ppl and make it their purpose in life to cause friction. Just a word to MCCain 08 you know this site backs Obama, why are you on it if you feel so strongly? Then why do you have to make your point by being disrespectful (even to yourself) and using cuss words. You try to come off as so smart, but really your comments make me think that you’re either a racist or don’t have even a GED. Why are MCCain supportors so angry? Why are you on here.? And please know what you’re talking about when it come to race, Yes Jewish people are a race. Before you fly off the handle and embarrass yourself and your party anymore, do some research and calm down…relax, relate, release.

That video was very touching. McCain 08, You really need to Shut the hell up You are free to vote for whoever you want to vote for but don’t come on here disrespecting the Obama supporters. You say you want someone with experience to lead this country you’re full of sh!t McCain isn’t talking about changing things like healthcare insurance for the elderly and making college more affordable. I don’t give a damn how much experience he has nothing he has said will benefit me in the end. And do you expect Obama to be superman? of course it will take some time to get things back on track but it won’t happen overnight and whether he is half white or whatever doesn’t even matter but it does to someone as ignorant and shallow as you. Get a life.

@ #9 G w e n F Baby

Your point is well taken but that’s also a double sword because that’s the reason a lot of people won’t vote for him, just because he’s black. He’s bi-racial that’s a known fact, but alot of people are not so open minded and when they look at him, they see his African American carmel skin, not a bi-racial, multi-cultured, well educated human being that’s the best man for thr job.

You spent all that time in school and you still managed to come up with ” no your facts” and “Puerto Ricans arent spanish”. lol
Like ZULU already said, “Puerto Rican’s aren’t Spanish. Please “no” your facts.” LMAO. Spanish is a language “hunny”. You dont even “no” the difference between race and ethnicity so please take your hillbilly ass somewhere with all that noise.
If you did attend college they really need to consider relinquishing their accreditation and sending you some kind of rebate check to help with your tax increase.

@ZULU I agree with you on “many whites who claim to support him will never vote for him or any black man.” Just like the ones that say, “If it was Colin Powell running I would vote for him”. I dont believe them for one second.

Insiring Change

Thursday, October 30, 2008 /

This video hit home for me. I hear all kinds of stories about life during the ’20s on up to the ’70s for black folks and people in general and to see that we are this close to having Barack become president, its amazing. I hoped that I’d see a black president in my life time, but thought that there was too many obstacles to keep that from happening. There were and still are many obstacles left to face immediately for Barack (like the election) but I have been motivated, inspired, and re-energized by the Obama campaign.

Also to #72 McCain ‘08. I hope that your joking, or trying to get a response out of people for the hell of it, ’cause if not you are misinformed (to say the least). Barack Obama (not OBEMER as you put it) will only raise taxes on people’s personal income if they’re making more than $250,000 a year. He will give small and big businesses tax breaks for creating more jobs, and offering health insurance to their employees. Under today’s progressive/graduated tax system, the government is already “spreading the wealth!” We already have welfare, medicaid and medicare, social security, all of which tax payers are providing! What Obama wants to do his increase taxes (from 36% to 39%) on the money you make over $250,000. He did not go to a “demonic” church. The “30 second clips” you saw on telivision were not the whole sermon and did not speak to all of the work that Obama’s former church does for the community and especially the African American community. (thats more than McCain has ever done for the black community).

I suggest you do your research on your candidate and see what his plans are, I’m sure your not gonna like them. You need to do some soul searching and putting aside color, looking just at the issues and each candidates policies, you will see that Obama is the better candidate.

Wow! I was so moved by this man right now. Lost his wife, 69yrs of marriage! So, lucky to have that longevity of marriage, I pray he gets to see another 4 or 5 yrs. But, he is so right “We are the future”, we can come together and be so much more if we give each other a chance.

Try to say “Hi” to someone you do not know (around school or work). Forgive someone that has done wrong to you. Give time to yourself or read a book.

Like Mr. Alexander states “we have to be united, can’t nothing be done divided”

You are entitled to your opinion, you are in America. See that is why we want Obama as President, so we as individuals can continue to express our opinions freely.

YOUR an idiot if you think that McCain has your best interest at heart. I don’t know who brainwashed you but if you can honestly say within the last 8 years that the economy hasn’t effected you then your a DAMN lying beetch.

Know your facts and if you need, because some ssssslllllloooowww people need to make “Pros & Cons” list, do that and see where your political, personal belief fall under.

1) race is a SOCIAL construct, not a biological one, and in this society, Obama is viewed as a black man, regardless of the ethnicity of his mother. Frederick Douglass’ father was white, and yet we all consider him a black man correct? Biologically, the difference between the “races” (which is a misnomer) has to do with phenotype (physical features) and not genotype (genetic make-up).
2) @McCain 08…Please return to the school you worked so hard to graduate from and ask your english professor what a homophone is… “know” vs. “no”

I have advice for all the supporters on this particular site, ignore these people who come on here with race comments. The fact is no matter what happens we must celebrate because Obama has made history, and its actually psychologically damaging to people who have had this narrative of BLACK men being shiftless, lazy, and not competent. Senator Obama has shown the world what black men are capable of when they are at their best. What’s the real fear? That there are more Senator Obamas among us. See, whites are use to being given passes for being white and present, and now this is no longer working for them. Change is mind boggling to say the least. McCain ‘08 is entitled to his opinion, but he would not be posting if there wasn’t a fear that Obama had a real chance. Many of these sorts of comments are being made out of fear. I LOVE IT.

number nine. I don’t care if if his mama is white, he is black boo. Not trying to make him deny his other roots that is who he is. I myself am a black woman with a white mother. I don’t call myself bi-racial, mixed or any of that other bullshit. I am Black. and if you don’t understand why this is huge not just to the black community but around the world, then you never will.
