International tennis player Serena Williams (pictured with Kenya’s education minister Sam Ongeri) cuts the ribbon at the Serena Williams Secondary School in Matooni, Kenya on Friday afternoon.
Built through a partnership between the Build African Schools initiative and Hewlett Packard, the school is designed to empower African students through education.
“We are indeed honored to have Ms Williams visit Kenya at this momentous time in American history when we have a new President elect who has roots in Kenya,” said Mr Dickson Mutaiti, the Director of Projects Build African Schools in Kenya.

WHOOO SAM AT #57, TELL IT! YOU PUT IT SO PERFECTLY…WE ARE NOT HELPLESS IN THIS. THIS IS THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY, AND WE ALL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP SOMEONE OUT. WE CAN’T TRAVEL ON A JET PLANE AND BUILD SCHOOLS IIN AFRICA, BUT WE SURE CAN TRAVEL 5 MILES ON A CITY BUS TO HELP PAINT ONE IN THE ‘HOOD. I’M TAKING YOUR ADVICE TO HEART, MARK MY WORDS.
Go Serena, getting Kenyan like Obama
This is a great thing..but I need to know why celebs aren’t opening new schools here in the United States where they are desperately needed as well. A new school has not been built in Baltimore City, Maryland in more than 40yrs. IDK…maybe I’m wrong..
Props. Loves the Williams Sisters.
We at the Neo Holidays Management felt greatly humbled and honoured that Serena and crew used our ground handling services. The Neo Foundation, will donate 15% of our profit to the New School as part of our ‘leave a footprint project’.
