BARACK OBAMA WINS THE ELECTION!
Wednesday, November 5, 2008

Sen. Barack Obama speaks to over 125,000 crowd members in Chicago’s Grant Park, minutes after being elected the 44th president of the United States, becoming the nation’s first black person to be elected president.
Obama, the son of a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas and a first-term Democratic senator from Illinois, defeated second-time Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain. The election proved even more victorious for Democrats, which now have the majority in both the House and Senate, the first time since 1994.
In case you missed it, check out President-Elect Obama’s acceptance speech.

History has been made, and wow what a day!
I was hooked on the BBC last night from 11pm (london time) till bout 6 this morning - when he got California…i screamed the house down and chills went through my body, my hands were shaking. Me and my sister we’re on the phone crying together
We got a black family in the white house y’all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Black lil boys & girls - look who u have to look up at, A PRESIDENT! i wish i had a lil boy right now just to say
“baby, look - see that man? that man is the President of the US, and you my child, you can do anything you set your mind to do”
Sidenote: i now have increased respect for McCain, his speech too was incredibly gracious and i believe heartfelt.
Sidenote 2: I loved ALL of Obama’s speech, but the way he talked about Michelle? that’s love

2PAC CHANGES … CHANGE IS NOW OBAMA IS OUR PRESIDENT!
Come on come on
I see no changes. Wake up in the morning and I ask myself,
“Is life worth living? Should I blast myself?”
I’m tired of bein’ poor and even worse I’m black.
My stomach hurts, so I’m lookin’ for a purse to snatch.
Cops give a damn about a negro? Pull the trigger, kill a nigga, he’s a hero.
Give the crack to the kids who the hell cares? One less hungry mouth on the welfare.
First ship ‘em dope & let ‘em deal the brothers.
Give ‘em guns, step back, and watch ‘em kill each other.
“It’s time to fight back”, that’s what Huey said.
2 shots in the dark now Huey’s dead.
I got love for my brother, but we can never go nowhere
unless we share with each other. We gotta start makin’ changes.
Learn to see me as a brother ’stead of 2 distant strangers.
And that’s how it’s supposed to be.
How can the Devil take a brother if he’s close to me?
I’d love to go back to when we played as kids,
but things change, and that’s the way it is.
[Bridge w/ changing ad libs]
(Come on, come on) That’s just the way it is. Things’ll never be the same.
That’s just the way it is. aww yeah…
[Repeat]
I see no changes. All I see is racist faces.
Misplaced hate makes disgrace for races we under.
I wonder what it takes to make this one better place…
let’s erase the wasted.
Take the evil out the people, they’ll be acting right.
‘Cause mo’ black than white is smokin’ crack tonight.
And only time we chill is when we kill each other.
It takes skill to be real, time to heal each other.
And although it seems heaven sent,
we ain’t ready to see a black President, uhh.
It ain’t a secret don’t conceal the fact…
the penitentiary’s packed, and it’s filled with blacks.
But some things will never change.
Try to show another way, but they stayin’ in the dope game.
Now tell me what’s a mother to do?
Bein’ real don’t appeal to the brother in you.
You gotta operate the easy way.
“I made a G today” But you made it in a sleazy way.
Sellin’ crack to the kids. “I gotta get paid,”
Well hey, well that’s the way it is.
[Bridge]
[Talking:]
We gotta make a change…
It’s time for us as a people to start makin’ some changes.
Let’s change the way we eat, let’s change the way we live
and let’s change the way we treat each other.
You see the old way wasn’t working so it’s on us to do
what we gotta do, to survive.
And still I see no changes. Can’t a brother get a little peace?
There’s war on the streets & the war in the Middle East.
Instead of war on poverty,
they got a war on drugs so the police can bother me.
And I ain’t never did a crime I ain’t have to do.
But now I’m back with the facts givin’ ‘em back to you.
Don’t let ‘em jack you up, back you up, crack you up and pimp smack you up.
You gotta learn to hold ya own.
They get jealous when they see ya with ya mobile phone.
But tell the cops they can’t touch this.
I don’t trust this, when they try to rush I bust this.
That’s the sound of my tune. You say it ain’t cool, but mama didn’t raise no fool.
And as long as I stay black, I gotta stay strapped & I never get to lay back.
‘Cause I always got to worry ’bout the pay backs.
Some buck that I roughed up way back… comin’ back after all these years.
Rat-a-tat-tat-tat-tat. That’s the way it is. uhh
[Bridge 'til fade]
Some things never change.

I am speechless. But how can I let this thread pass without my saying anything?
I am completely in awe of what happened last night. I gam not suprised that Obama won. I knew that I would see a black president someday. What I was suprised at was the amount of people celebrating in the streets. Last night, I went down to the White House (I live in DC) and danced in the streets for hours. I was not alone. People of all shapes and colors were there, white, black, muslim, asian, everyone. THAT is what suprised me. And I am so moved to know that a Black man, a man who looks just like my father and brother, has inspired a people so much that we celebrate in the streets. DC has never seen so much exitement and today, I am glad that I was a part of it all.
I LOVE YOU OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I AM SO DISSPOINTED IN MY HOME STATE OF ARIZONA, THEY MADE US LOOK LIKE A BUNCH OF HICKS. ANYONE COULD SEE WITH EVERY MCAIN SPEECH THE MAJORITY WAS 98% WHITE, AND OBAMA ALWAYS HAS A DIVERSE GROUP, I KNEW FROM DAY ONE MCAIN NEVER SPOKE FOR US, AND NEVER COULD OR WOULD REPRESENT THIS COUNTRY CORRECTLY. I AM HAPPY THAT MY VOTE COUNTED, AND WE HAVE A MAN WHO IS READY TO BRING CHANGE.
SAD MY MOTHER AND FATHER COULD NOT BE HERE TO SEE THIS WITH ME, AND MY SONS

I am so happy for Americans and the rest of the world. Let’s not forget that Obama has been supported not only by black people in the USA and all around the world, but also by whites (I’m white, from a very small country somewhere…), Asians, and many others who were united by the notions of change, hope, strength and love - yes, I did say - LOVE. Dr. King’s dream is happening. Damn, this is so breathtaking moment.
And seeing all of you Americans (no matter what race, color, cultural background) united in the USA around one man full of dreams and hopes is so beautiful thing to watch from here. Finally, let the world see that this is POSSIBLE.
I must also say that I like the speech given by McCain when he congratulated Obama. That was also a sign of change and respect for a man.
Congrats to ALL OF YOU for letting this dream come true!!
(And sorry for my English;p)

I was so sick of hearing “vote black” this man is intelligent eliminating his name and replacing it with a colour is a diss. This man will change America for white, black, chinese, indian, everyone! The world is moving forward with the new President and so should everyone else. It’s more than a race issue guys. This is just amazing what a whole country can do when they really want something. One thing I can say about race is that this definately is a historical event. A black man running the country! Big things a gwan!

This truly the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed in my life time. I know believe that I can achieve anything I want in this world. Last night the students on the University of the West Indies campus in Jamaica went ballistic when the results were announced last night. I am most definitely going to be there on the 20th of January, 2009 to see the first black man sworn in to be the president of USA.

I am so excited to have witnessed this moment!! I cried last night for the future and for the impact this has and will make on my young son’s life. I cried because I am so excited to see a strong woman by his side. I cried because my grandparents were able to witness what they never ever believed was possible. I cried because the future is SOOO bright and Americans have said loud and clear, we are ready for EXCELLENCE. I cried because my 30th birthday is January 10th and there is no better way to celebrate other than in DC on the 20th, I can’t wait!!!!!!
Additionally, I pray we keep in mind that President Obama is the Leader of the country…not just African Americans. Furthermore, we must be patient and know that change takes time and have faith that he will lead us well.

NOT BECAUSE OBAMA IS BLACK BUT BECAUSE HIS DETERMINATION AND DEDICATION TOOK HIM BEYOND THE FEAR(THE FEAR I KNOW HE AND HIS FAMILY HAD) TO NEVER GIVE UP. AND TO BELIEVE IN HIMSELF AND THE PEOPLE I JUST FEEL SO BLESSED AN HONORED THAT MY EYE’S HAS BEEN ABLE TO SEE SUCH A VISION COME TO PASS. PRESIDENT KENNEDY SAID ONE THAT “FORTY YEARS FROM MY PRESIDENCY THAT THERE MAY VERY WELL BE A BLACK PRESIDENT” AND OH MY GOSH IT HAS HAPPEN! I WISH MLK , ROSA PARKS AND ALL THOSE WHO HAS FOUGHT FOR EQUAL RIGHTS COULD HAVE SEEN SUCH A THING. IM PROUD TO BE A BLACK AMERICAN ON THIS DAY. I am so proud because Obama is first and foremost a GOOD MAN. And he won the highest office in our country because he is the most qualified, BEST person for the job that needs to be done. I think it is amazing that everyone came together across the country to create a landslide for the future. I am excited that the BEST MAN FOR THE JOB is a black man!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a victory for immigrants, It’s a victory for anyone who has been on welfare and needed scholarships to go to school, it’s a victory for those of us who grew up in single parent homes and nontraditional families, it’s a victory for mixed race people, it’s a victory for African Americans, its a victory for young people across the nation, and it’s a victory for people who want to do good in a world where there is so much malice and evil. It’s a victory for those who think we as a nation can do better! And that means it’s a victory for everyone!!!!!!!!

There were well over 200,000 people that crowded out Grant Park in Chicago on yesterday. This event is truly historical. Jesse Jackson was crying his eyes out. I’m sure he reflected on people like Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and others who ended up being martrys for equality. Jesse was there for the marches, the arrests, etc. so I’m this touched him like so many others who fought for civil rights.
On the other hand, McCain’s speech sounded like he took this as a personal failure, but when change is due, there’s nothing you can about it but conform. If you can’t beat em, join em.

congratulations to barrack obama and also to his family. im happy, but lets not forget the most important thing people, the fact that the us president is black aint gonna mean a damn thing if WE dont work hard to change our own lives and the lives of the people around us.
the fact that he is the president doesnt mean we can sit at home at the tv and relax all day and expect our lives to get better.
i mean he aint gonna eradicate poverty, nor is he gonna stop all bad things ( killings, tsunamis, too many to mention) from happening, no president can except of course that president is Jesus.
so change hasnt come, change is about to come, and WE are gonna make that happen.
congratulations america, congratulations our slave forefathers, the day you worked hard for has finally come

Normally when we say WE are proud to be an American, we say it really without any conviction. Now I really mean it! If you watched that lastnite and wasnt moved, something is terribly wrong with you! There is one downfall to all this though. White America will now beleive that racism does not exist in America anymore. But who cares, we have made it this far and this is just the beginning. WE CAN DO SO MUCH MORE! LETS GET IT!

@166..I was thinking about Tupac’s song this morning as I was getting dressed. I’m sure he’s smiling in heaven right now (or on a deserted island in the south Pacific, wherever he is..lol)…to think, just 10 years ago (1997-98), Tupac said in that song, “We ain’t ready for a black president.” We weren’t back then, but now, last night, this country has proved that we are ready. This is the greatest moment in Black history.
I think about my ancestors, Malcolm X (who probably almost woke from his grave last night, MLK Jr, my late great grandmother–I know they are so proud.

@169 BigDaddyReg, I feel you. McCain took all southern states with the exception of Florida, so it kind of makes the people who voted for Obama look bad. Especially Georgia. I was highly disappointed. But Atlanta is not the only city here and there are plenty of hick cities surrounding it.
@ 177 Sigh, Please don’t start with the negativity. You should know where there’s good there’s evil and where there’s love, there’s hate. This has always been in existence and will not change. Don’t forget that some of these white folks that view you a certain way helped put this man in office. Even if we were all the same color,
people would still look for something to hate. Just ignore those folks and do you.

I still can’t believe that Obama won. I know that it will not fully sink in until inauguration. My school, Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN will be making a bus trip to see his inauguration. It was so hype here on campus last night. Some people even got arrested even though it was a peaceful, joyful rally. There were some people who even said F*** Obama and no one threatened them or cursed at them. We Obama supporters were too proud to even let it get to us but the cops couldn’t see that. I’ll pray for Obama and his family’s safety everyday/

I am so extremely proud of Barack and his family. Blacks please be humble about this and lets do what Martin Luther encouraged us to do. We all should love each other.;

This is history right here. The white house was built by slaves and now a black man gets to live in it as the president. The Obama haters can call him all the names in the book… but now they have to call him something else, the FIRST black president of the united states of America.. and the 44th one to be exact.
