I don’t think many people hate on Beyonce as they tire of the thousands of media impressions she generates. From tv ads to interviews to magazines, blogs and gossip sites, she hasn’t been out of the public eye for one minute. I think she has a wonderful singing voice and range, her music is really inferior to her singing ability, as I feel the same about Mariah Carey. This business make these artists think image first and the “sex symbol” image and being at the very top is a difficult place to hold onto. At this point, there’s nowhere to go but down…so Beyonce is working hard to stay and comfortably transition when her time comes (think Jennifer Lopez, Brandy and Janet Jackson). When she rose to the top, she was one of the most absolute beautiful women in the industry. But, now we have other very popular singers, who may not be as physically beautiful as she, but project their own sense of style and beauty with a great fan base, i.e. Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Ciara, Keyshia Cole and others. We now have Estelle who may not be considered beautiful by some, but she’s fastly gaining popularity and have a wonderful style, is original and can really sing. The image first policy is fading as the record industry sales continue to decline. We got accustomed to “eye candy” and have access to music 24/7 without even buying it. So now, we’re coming back to a place where you’ll be seeing more singers who look good, but can really sing and Beyonce won’t be the novelty she once was in the face of evolution–change.

The number one spot is difficult to manage. Janet was number one for a long time, but, we also had Whitney Houston and Anita Baker and no one over shadowed the other and they never sold tons of products (endorsements) either, which also added to their shelf life. They all did their thing and this is where the industry is headed back to and this means there’ll be more opportunities for a variety of entertainers striving to reach the top. Beyonce’s camp generate controversy by keeping her image in competition with other artists, i.e., Ciara (using the same song title) or Rihanna (B coping her edgy look for a magazine cover liken to the Disturbia Video), so she can be deemed the prettest and in many cases she is, but this marketing strategy is fading fast. There won’t be one or two top performers, but a selection and many selling gold records will be as profitiable as a select few dominating the airwaves multiplatinum style.

Survival is the name of the game for all of us!

I do find it odd that her mother is with her more than her own husband. I give this marriage no more than five years. Two powerful people with no intent on slowing down. I don’t know why her acting coach started all this empty hype about her supposed “Oscar worthy” performace (just as she did with “Dreamgirls”)…It is such an obvious marketing ploy, they had everybody in that cast going on an on about her “amazing performance” more than they even talked about their own performances, characters and experiences on set. That’s so unnatural. Beyonce would be the sidebar or afterthought, not the point you stressed, the primary focus UNLESS there was something in it for you, for the film and everyone involved as a whole! Drawing attention to her performance or hinting at Oscar buzz means more people will go see the film. Did they think we couldn’t get that???? From the interviews that have surfaced, it seems the only one they didn’t rope into trying to trick us was Brody and probably because they couldn’t (he’s feisty and an Oscar winner). Obvious marketing trick…Beyonce is just acting like a black woman with an attitude in the film, which is just what she accused Jennifer of doing with the Effie performance (don’t argue with me, stans. Larry King Live, Star Jones guest host –look it up).
Of course, the performance isn’t great, all she does is “act like a diva,” which could be a portrayal of Etta James or your snappish Aunt Anne. lol If every actress could do the same, could essentially do nothing in a film until she has to go into some “emotional” scene–and one admittedly derived from a similar film and character–wouldn’t everybody deserve an Oscar? It’s so funny that now Gabrielle Union comes out and says “even if she doesn’t win an award…” after critics have been less than enthusiastic/won’t venture as far as saying her performance is definitely Oscar worthy… hmmm I guess they’re on to the fact that we weren’t fooled by the supposed “Oscar buzz” which was essentially her acting coach putting it out there and bloggers perpetuating it based on her comment alone. This situation mirrors Beyonce’s presence on the scene, I think. It’s so foggy, so fake. Why can’t we locate a source who believes in her “Oscar worthy” status outside of her acting coach and the couple of writers who hadn’t seen the film but repeated what the coach said because it was sensational (actually writing things like “and on the Oscar short list Beyonce, SERIOUSLY”) Huh? We can locate several reviews and critics who say Taraji will get a nomination and who rate her performance, going on for several paragraphs about her alone…
So who knows what’s going on?!

Yachi thank you, but I’m still angry from the last post where one of the Beyonce stans accused another poster of being “dark” simply because they criticized Beyonce. In who’s opinion was she the most stunning woman in the business? I’ll take my girl Halle for example. Now, we blow her up as the most beautiful woman in the world, but again, lets be real, there are some bad sisters out here that never make the news nor will they ever make a movie, but they are bad. It’s called promotion and publicists that creates the imagery of someone being drop dead gorgeous.
