Sgt. Jan Pawel Pietrzak and his wife, Quiana, were tortured and killed execution-style in their California home allegedly by four Marines under his command.
The couple were found bound and gagged in the ransacked house and each had been shot in the head.
Pietrzak’s mother, Henryka Pietrzak-Varga, said she prepared herself “for the possibility that my son could die in Iraq, but to die like this, in their own home? They were good kids. They didn’t deserve to die like this.”
“She was our only child and my best friend,” Faye Jenkins, Quiana’s mother said. “He was like my son. He was so proud to be a Marine. But when he was off the base, he was my son.”
Deputies were dispatched to the Pietrzak home in Winchester, an exurb of San Diego, when he didn’t show up for work. They found the Pietrzaks in the living room and evidence the robbers tried to hide their tracks by torching the house.
Charged with murder and other crimes are Pvt. Emrys John, 18, of Maryland; Lance Cpl. Tyrone Miller, 20, of North Carolina; Pvt. Kevin Darnell Cox, 20, of Tennessee, and Pvt. Kesuan Sykes, 21, of California.
HUDSON CASE UPDATE
Following a preliminary hearing on Monday, William Balfour, the only suspect named so far in the triple homicide of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew, will remain in prison at least through December 3, when a full hearing will be held to determine if he violated his parole.
According to reports, Balfour, the estranged husband of Julia Hudson, had not attended any of his anger-management classes, had not attended any of his substance-abuse counseling sessions, had not been available for visits with his parole officer and had been seen in places were drugs were sold or distributed, which resulted in an arrest for cocaine possession in June.
Balfour’s girlfriend, Shonta Cathey, had claimed she had seen Balfour with a gun the day before the murders that was allegedly identical to the gun found by authorities. An unnamed source told the Chicago Tribune that Balfour told her he was involved in the shootings.
Balfour was out on parole from the Illinois River Correctional Center on attempted-murder, carjacking and stolen-property charges, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections. He was sentenced to serve seven years in 1999. Balfour was paroled in 2006, but if he is found at the December 3 hearing to have violated his parole, he will have to serve out the remainder of his term, until May 2009. Until that hearing, Balfour will remain at the reception center at Stateville Correctional Center.
KILPATRICK HOPES TO KEEP LAW LICENSE
Former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, who pleaded guilty and resigned amid multiple scandals earlier this year, is hoping to salvage his license to practice law.
As part of his plea deal, Kilpatrick lost his law license, but noted that he was doing so “under protest”. His attorneys are now appealing the decision to Michigan’s lawyer regulatory board.
Attorney Phillip Thomas said, “What happened was totally unprecedented. There are lawyers out there convicted of manslaughter and very, very serious felonies that this doesn’t happen to.”
The state’s Attorney Discipline Board has given Kilpatrick until the end of November to file an argument as to why the disbarment order shouldn’t be finalized.
Kilpatrick needs to sit down somewhere. He’s a disgrace.

The death of the soldier and his wife WAS not racial. The 4 dummies thought they had a lot of money because he had just gotten a bonus. Like I have been saying the Millitary does not make you a man or a woman, your parents do that. I hope that some one in charge will do something about the crime in the US. Some of these areas are out of control.
Mr. William Balfour can not be proving guilty until he confesses or has a trial. Please stop wishing death on him. There are to sides to every story and there seems to be some lying going on both side. Lets just wait and see what happen. There is a reason why he is being held a charges unrelated to the murder.
Why take away Kilpatrick’s law licence? What is funny about this city and this guy is the fact that he won two terms fair and square by a lot. not 4%, it was more like 20%. Now the white guy he was running against read like the better guy for the job, but I guess he was the wrong color. Now they have replaced him with someone from his camp. A guy he campagined with. I’ve been a military spouse for twelve years. I personally think it might not be about race. A lot of soliders have problems being dictated by another person at all times, and its really all the time. Just because you leave work doesn’t mean your day belongs to you. If your command sgt. call and tell you to move you have to MOVE!! No questions on why. For some soliders its too much, especially if your command is overbearing, insensitive, and have no respect for your life, and there are higher rank soldiers who abuse their power. My husband have been guilty of this at times, and some of his soliders have express how they can’t stand my husband, and told me if they get the chance they will beat him down. I told him (my husband) when it happens, he always responed let them try it. So understand the military life is stressful at times. Just pointing out it might not be raciallly motivated, but more of F*^k Sgt. So, and so.. We’ll show his azz who running thangs.

The couple being killed can be a combination of things-it doesn’t have to be one reason. Could be lets rob this guy who was our superior and oh, he has a black wife too? I agree with the poster about how marines are crazy. Every marine I have met has indicated that their screws are not in too tight. They snap at the drop of the hat. These guys tortured and raped that innocent woman- they are devils.

Unless they get some real evidence that William Balfour is indeed the gunman in these murders, I think he will walk after December 3. How long can they keep him for supposed parole violation? If he was not a suspect in these killings he would be out walking the streets right now. They’re not even sure if he was really in violation. I just don’t have a good feeling about this.
I am in the military and there is no excuse for what those soldiers did to the SGT and his wife. Even if he abused his power, that is still no excuse to kill. People sign up each day, and know good and well what comes with the uniform, the good and the bad. If the SGT treated them unfairly, those soldiers could have reported him, there are ways to handle those issues, people chose not too. Regardless, this is a disgrace. My prayers go out to both of their families.

While I agree that the facts aren’t adding up and I don’t believe he was the killer, I do think he had something to do with it or some knowledge about it. 3 people were murdered and you’re mad that a felon that had violated his parole is being thrown under the bus by fellow black people.
