POLITICS: OBAMA RESIGNS SENATE SEAT / CLINTON TO BE SEC. OF STATE? / GIULIANI RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR & PRESIDENT?

U.S. President-elect Barack Obama resigned his Senate seat on Sunday to focus on the transition to the presidency and thanked Illinois for launching his political career.

In a letter to the state, Obama writes: “Today, I am ending one journey to begin another. I am stepping down as senator to prepare for the responsibilities I will assume as our nation’s next president. But I will never forget, and will forever be grateful to, the men and women of this great state who made my life in public service possible.”

Obama’s resignation means he won’t participate in this week’s session on Capitol Hill that could possibly address the ailing economy and auto industry.

Obama is scheduled to meet with former rival John McCain on Monday which signifies his willingness to work with political rivals as president.

CLINTON TO BE SEC. OF STATE?

According to Democratic officials, President-elect Barack Obama offered Sen. Hillary Clinton the Secretary of State position during their meeting last week. She requested time to consider the offer.

Speaking at a transit industry conference in New York on Friday, Clinton mocked the interest in her plans but did not deny the speculation:

“I have to start by saying I’m very happy there is so much press attention and interest in transit, especially guesses about my own. But on the off chance that you’re not here for this important issue, and are here for some other reason, let me just say that I’m not going to speculate or address anything about the president-elect’s incoming administration, and I’m going to respect his process, and any inquiries should be directed to his transition team.”

GIULIANI RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR & PRESIDENT?

On Sunday, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani said he would consider running for governor of New York and a possible second attempt at the presidency.

Giuliani, a one-time presidential front runner, dropped out in late January after losing the primary in Florida.

“No one knows whether you’ll do something again until you come to the point of: ‘Is it possible to do it again? Would you have a chance of winning?’” he said of a second White House bid following a speech in Dubai. “I mean those are just things you can’t evaluate right now.”

In response to a question, Giuliani did not rule out running for governor of New York.

“I don’t know if I’d be interested in it, but I’ll think about it when the right time comes along,” Giuliani said.

    OBAMA ’08
I’m glad that he reached out to Hillary.

I’m from New York and Giuliani is wack at life.

  2. Rayne

I’m glad that Obama is showing interest in Clinton, she’s a smart woman who has a strong following with women across the board. I think it would be a wise decision to have her some place on the Obama team.

  3. xxsimplymexx

hmmm…hilary secretary of state? i guess thats not a bad look..obama still gonna be el presidente..it just shows his character as a strong man!

  4. JustAThought

I really DO NOT LIKE Giuliani ( he’s a big jerk)….if the republicans want to put him up front, they are in for yet another surprise…

  5. I wonder if she will take the office…..how is that going to work with her husband. Not too many people like him around the world.

Guiliani needs to focus on being faithful to his wife first and foremost then consider running for a higher office. I do not want him to be my president at all.

  6. Be The Best YOU There Is...

No to Giulani being govenor. I hope he doesn’t even make the ballot and if he does I will be there to vote bright and early to vote NO!

  7. AzzedineAliaFan

Obama hasn’t even been sworn in yet, and we keep hearing Palin may run in ’12 and now this Guiliani thing as well? it’s as if they are fast fowarding to 2012 without givng the current elected president a chance to shine/prove himself? WTF? i don’t like this and i know it’s because he’s black!!! SMDH

Personally, I do not think Hilary is a good fit for Secretary of State. Well, for one she voted to go to Iraq, which speaks volume of her judgement on international policies.

  9. dukesman2000

As for Rudy…I hope he funds his own campaign because whoever donates their money to this dirt-bag is completely wasting his/her hard earned dollar. This is guy is a pariah and is loathed everywhere he goes. Even his own kids hate him.

    LOLZ @ #9

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I hope no one takes him seriously because that guy is nothing more than a buffoon. Not to mention his rhetoric will include repeating a certain date over and over…

I hope Gov. Patterson runs again and knocks this creep out the box!

I don’t think it is a good idea to have her in his administration.

I second that motion that Giuliani is wack at life…lol.

Giuliani thought he could use 9/11 to get a free pass into the White House. But to think of all the people who thought (myself included) that it was going to be Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani in the general election. All that I have to say is wow! Giuliani is a bad politician. He has so many skeletons in his closet, he can’t (no shouldn’t) throw dirt at his oppenents and really I don’t see it happening.

To Hillary becoming sec. of state and I could get with that. For the next 4-8 years, she would have to give up her political career for foreign policy experience. I think it could work for her. We shall see if that were to be the case..

    GO OBAMA RUNNING SH**T
CANT WAIT TO THEY KICK BUSH OUT SO YOU CAN TAKE OVER….

While I understand the excitement surrounding Obama and his family I find it quite interesting that a “Black” man as you all label him who was elected by you to be a change candidate has accomplished very little change in his selection of candidates in his cabinet. He is selecting the same ole, same ole and Surprise his lack of diversity in his cabinet is not surprising to me either. Where are the minoritites in his cabinet? African americans, Hispanics, all that talk of change is just that ,TALK in my opinion.

Obama in my opinion is a man, a pres-elect, who has stepped on all those who helped to mold hin into what he is today and yes while it is exciting to be the pres elect, and soon be the head honcho, he has to sit back and think about those that he stepped on to make it to the top. Th same people that reached out to that biracial young man who was not sure of who he was, I feel he used the black church in Chicago that he attended, he needed them just to get his name out there and reach his goal of becoming president and when the heat got to hot to handle, he disowned the church just to be president.

Although I do not agree with the words of his pastor at that time, I do not believe that after 20 yrs he was unaware of the words that came out of his pastors mouth. I would prefer him to be honest and state that he was aware and explain why he chose to stay.

I hope he gives you what he promised you, I HOPE he does not become the same ole washington politician, because after all he did promise change and excited you with HOPE.

In closing my black brothas and sista’s we did not need Obama to excite us, to tell us that we are worth so much more than what we may think of ourselves. Those that came before him paved the way for you and for me, Harriet Tubman, MLK Jr, March on washington participants etc these people sacraficed so much to make our lives easier. We could always see the possibilty of what we could be and who we could become it just so happended that Barac Obama was the recipient of that struggle. The question now becomes does he actually represent the black struggle and change? The answers lies within, dont look for change based upon this presidency, it’s always been right there, inside of you.

No to Billary as Sec of State. She’s disappointed me for the past few years.

No to 9ui11iani for NY gov. After all of those civil rights cases that were filed in the city over police brutality, I’d never wanna see him serve as governor.

  18. VirgoDoll

I love Barack Obama, all the haters can do just that. HATE! Hillary didn’t win for a reason, McCain didn’t win for a reason, Barack won because he was chosen by the people who trust him to do the right thing and he will. If he’s rebuilding the Clinton administration then so be it! The economy was waaaaayyy better then than it is now. Damn let the man get in office before you try to put down what he hasn’t even done yet. Better yet…get a life!

  19. bobbi

*******I think that Obama resigning his seat is good for the people of that state…it is
******* impossible to focus on both..he also believes that that gov should appt. a
********black person to that seat because of the lack of diversity. jesse jackson jr is
    *******a top prospect.

******im not surprised that obama would like clinton to be his sec of state…i already
*******knew that would happen anyway. i dont think she is gonna take the job
******* though…bill is making his money in too many strange places and that would
******* com out if she takes the job

*******giulianni need to sit down somewhere cause boddy jindal running for president
    ******* in 2012

  20. bobbi

    ****@ shuster
******Obama doesn’t have a cabinet yet..he is actually vetting what would be the first
*****black us attorney general….its not his fault black folks cant past vetting….

  21. RealFake

Who said that President elect Obama had already selected his cabinet – I must’ve missed something while I was asleep at the wheel. Folks still got those reparations on their minds..Anyway .. If Giulianni ever runs for governor of any state in my lifetime I will be moving to that state just to cast a vote against him – least thing I would legally do.
