POLITICS: OBAMA SAYS ‘2 MILLION JOBS’ / CLINTON ACCEPTS SEC. OF STATE OFFER / GET ‘EM, SHEP!
Monday, November 24, 2008
In his Democratic Radio Address over the weekend, President-elect Barack Obama discussed his plans to put people back to work and get our economy moving again. Obama has directed his economic team to assemble an Economic Recovery Plan that will save or create 2.5 million more jobs by January of 2011. Check it out above.
CLINTON ACCEPTS SEC. OF STATE OFFER

Sen. Hillary Clinton has accepted the offer from President-elect Barack Obama to become U.S. secretary of state, joining her former Democratic rival to help guide U.S. foreign policy. An official announcement is expected after the Thanksgiving holiday, according to Democratic Party sources.
GET ‘EM, SHEP!
After he got at Ralph Nader earlier this month, I have a newfound respect for Fox News anchor Shepherd Smith.
Check him out as he expresses his disgust with an email he received regarding the potential bailout of the auto industry.

I think its a good move that Obama chose Clinton. I think she’s a good asset to his team.
I have ZERO sympathy for the auto makers. Maybe I don’t have a clear understanding of economics and the whole “consumers vs supply and demand strategy” but why would they (automakers) continue to make large gas guzzling vehicles when the economy is struggling and people are already having a hard time filling up Hondas and paying mortgages?? Puzzling. What’s was even more disturbing was reading about the CEOs showing up in DC to beg for money in their privately owned jets…that act basically yelled ” We have money but aren’t spending it right”.

At first I was for the bailout but when they flew to DC with their jets and no business plan I thought no. If a bailout happens the CEO’s need to go. I watched Pres. Obama’s Utube address and he is bring that new new deal.

I’m so proud of President Obama….i mean he hasn’t officially taken office yet; he’s yet to take the oath, however, he’s already working hard….no play time for him…that’s admirable, cause all the other presidents were using this time to party it up before the inauguration. Even on election night, he cancelled the “customary” fireworks, because he’s all about business. he knows this is not the time to party, buy the time to be dilligent in resolution about the many problems thats plaguing us; economy; troops; gas, healthcare; etc.
You can see President Obama is serious about his job, he understands the expectations people have for him, and he’s ready for the critics….He has assembled many members of his team/cabin, and they are on the issue of the economy already! I’m just so proud of him….so other black men would copy his work ethic, we would be that much farther as a people…stop waiting for one man to come along and take your hand when you know damn well what to do.
I’m holding out to marry a man like Barack Obama….i could careless about athletes and entertainers….my attention has now shifted. Men taking care of their business is so damn sexy…..

I trust Obama…but Hillary as Secretary of State is making me a little nervous. Currently, one of our biggest threats is Iran and right now they are not feeling Mrs.Clinton at all based on some comments she let slip out of her frantic mouth about annihalating their country as she was fighting for dear life against Obama in the presidential primary debates. We will see…
I am not following the Shep comment. Can someone explain what’s going on? He doesn’t want a GM bailout?

It’s good he’s doing something about it, but obviously he has to.
Anyway, if we people learn economics (and I’m not saying everyone should), I don’t think everyone should jump on his dick and say omg he’s great! He is, but this 2 million jobs is not many jobs. So don’t praise him like he’s godly.

Since when does people congratulating him on his EFFORTS considered likening him to being godlike?! I’m just curious why you would say that…and 2 million jobs is a big deal, after all he’s one man, and for one man to intitiate, backup, usher in, introduce 2 million jobs to our declining economy is by far praise worthy, i’ll bet if you were one of the people who needed a job and benefitted from President Obama’s economic plan you’d be singing a different tune…just sayin
And P.S. that “dick jumping” comment seems so inappropriate in this thread….

The expectations and anticipation surrounding the incoming Obama Administration are dumbfounding. Everyone (including myself) is poised and riding out the wave of this crisis until Obama comes into office. I understand that things might get worst before they better, but so far we’ve the seen the market react positively to Obama’s moves i.e. when he named his new Treasury Secretary, the market shot up 500 points. I believe positive things will begin to happen once he is inaugurated; people will feel more secure under his leadership.
As for Clinton’s new role, I personally do not like the decision. I believe Obama is just being nice to her in offering her the position. Then again, one can argue the fact that it is better to have Hilary working for him which minimizes her free wheeling style in the senate. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
All this bailout/rescue talks are driving me crazy. When does it end? These American auto makers have run their businesses on antiquated business models and now they are in trouble. What the hell did they expect? The cars made by these auto makers are inferior in quality, the styles are grotesque at best and they simply cannot compete with foreign auto makers. GM, Ford and Chrysler deliberately ignore their competitors’ innovations and made cars that cannot stay on the road. In the finance world it is called “planned obsolescence.” Build so it last a few years hoping you’ll buy more. I say let them fail and invest the $25bn in resources that’ll give their employees new job opportunities.
Yeah Shep definitely has not drunk the Faux News’ “cool aid of bigotry.” I wonder how long he’ll last if he continues to speak his mind and expose “The Hate Engine?”

@dukesman2000
I so agree with you on the matter of the automakers…For years American Automakers have ignored the innovations of the foreign car makers….American made cars are sub-standard, and are cheaply made. People are becoming sick of this, where before they tried to be patriotic and buy american, people now want the best vehicle, which is for the middle class, largely Hondas and Toyotas. People are now running and buying more foreigns cars for longevitity purposes, and american automakers are feeling the effects from this decline. You’d think the answer would be to make a better vehicle, however, it seems they just want the money ( bailout) to stay in business. For decades, they have not given much thought to their “reputation” and instead focused on how many vehicles they could move, as opposed to building the best vehicle brand possible to keep the customers they have, and to keep the door open for new ones. Instead, their products have turned people off, and sent them running to foreign car makers.
In terms of a bailout, i don’t blame the powers that be who are not asking for a solid plan in getting these american car makers back on their feet, instead of just loosely handing them billions of dollars. Simply put American car makers need to up their game in terms of the type of products they are turning out…..

I really hope Obama has a tax plan in place to take effect after 2010. That means he needs to start pushing soomething through as soon as he get in office so congress can vote. If not EVERYONE will have higher taxes. We fell to understand that Bush cut taxes for everyone. Under Clintion tax rates were higher for EVERYONE. He will need to modify That tax the rich more thing because that is not achievable now. ( thats why he has said it in a while). I did not vote for him but I pray God give him the vision to do the right thing.

as far as the auto industry…what the hell is the point of giving them money? if you give money to bank, it creates money to loan and everyone needs a loan. you can give the auto company all the money they want, that not going to make people buy them old school ass cars…if anything the capter 11 mike be the best thing for them. i will be the first one at the lot getting me a TAHOE for 50% off! that way they can sell their cars and not have to pay their debt.

So this is very interesting. Obama says that the “economic experts” predict that millions of jobs will be lost next year. He then says that he has no plan as of yet to stem the tide but that he will create 2.5 million jobs by 2011 based off a plan that (by his own admission) still does not exist. Lmao, this is too much. All that is irrelevant though because he allegedly looks good standing next to his wife. The only thing that Shephard Smith got correct is that all America does is print money. The reason why he said that is because there is nothing backing this monopoly money.

I agree Brandi I’m from Metro Detroit and have family that lives in Detroit. My grandparents and other family members have all worked 30+ years for the Big 3 and so I think Congress should help out. And let me clarify something that has been largely distorted and not accurately reported by the media. This 25 billion that the Big 3 is asking for is not a BAILOUT it is a LOAN. The American TAX PAYING citizens will receive their money back with interest. What is really pissing me off is that no one was this harsh when the banks came crying for money. Hell just last night Congress approved an additional monetary payout to Citibank! No one is making a big deal about that but everyone wants to jump down the throats of the Big 3. Now don’t get me wrong they were retarded for flying their big private jets, they could’ve at least all flown on one together. But that should not be the reason for not helping the people who work for the Big 3. Believe me when I say they are working on new and energy efficient vehicles (two of my cousins are engineers for GM and Ford) so I know this to be true. Should they have started working on these new ideas sooner? Hell Yes! But on the other hand they were introducing new hybrid vehicles shortly after Toyota came out with the Prius but American consumers weren’t rushing to buy them because gas prices were low and everyone wanted to stunt in their daddy’s caddy! But because gas prices were high as hell they wanted to cry about more energy efficient cars when in all reality they were already out there. So I think people who oppose the LOAN (not bailout) they should do their research before they pass judgment because not helping the Big 3 will not only hurt Detroit but ALL of America!

the point i was making is that people dont buy these cars. think of this way…ur grandpa works at a factory, if i give the company 25 bil what is that gonna do for him? nothing. thats not gonna make people buy them cheap asss cars. therefore production jobs will be cut anyway. i think the stimpulations on the money is gonna hurt the auto workers even more. it is a shame that us automaker only make money off SUV’s. so if we make them produce enery efficient cars, ur grandpa is gonna loose his job anyway. the us auto industry doesnt contribute enough to our economy to bail them out.thats just my opinion.

As far as the auto bailout, I’m not in favor of it. The funds for the AIG bailout hasn’t made the impact that was anticipated thus far. How do we know that this move would make the difference either? I think we need to stop placing band-aids on wounds that need surgery! Period!

If they fail, they fail. I find this trend very disturbing and know that it is only delaying the inevitable. Some things need to fail, regardless of what the impact is. You can’t keep putting ban-aids on problems that need a different kind of healing.
I don’t mean to sound mean but Obama’s message sounds really empty. It sound like he’s just saying something…anything…to keep the beast at bay. Where are these jobs going to come from? Are these government jobs or private jobs? Who’s going to finance these jobs? What kind of jobs are they? Who’s going to fill these jobs (unemployment has various angles, and is full of people ranging from cooks to Harvard MBA’s)? Where did this arbitrary figure of 2.5 million come from? What about the jobs currently being lost?
A little “back of a napkin” accounting tells you immediately that something is very, very, very wrong. We just bailed out the mortgage companies for almost a trillion dollars, now CITI with we just spent another 300 billion, the automobile industry will come back with 200 billion, the railroad is next, then the energy industries, and then, whole states.
We are collapsing. Obama knows this, he just does not have the guts to tell you, yet. My heart goes out to Obama, he has inherited a complete MESS that he can’t fix because they very people he is surrounding himself with are PAET of the problem.

Bobbi… Do you really believe that if the Big 3 fail NO ONE will notice? How about my grandparents will notice, my aunts, uncles, friends, and the list goes on. I know you were probably trying to make a point but that’s the wrong kind of point to make. Whenever people lose their jobs and benefits we should alll care. How is firing people benefiting us if this forces them to have to go stand in the welfare line and use more tax payer dollars? It doesn’t!
And so because Citibank is the largest financial institution that means we shouldn’t go hard on them the same way people are going hard on the Big 3? Aren’t they wrong for allowing themselves to get to this point just like the Big 3? They’re no better than the top execs at the Big 3? They shit stank just like everyone elses and if the Big 3 has to come up with a more detailed plan then Citibank should have too. I’m really starting to think that people don’t care about the Big 3 because they don’t give a f**k about Detroit. But again this doesn’t just affect Detroit… it affects All of America!!!!!

I agree with the poster that said she was waiting for her Obama, and not interested in athletes/entertainers. I couldn’t agree more. Ever since Obama came onto the scene with his Ivy-League education, well-spoken, charismatic, intelligent, natural sex appeal. I find myself looking at other types of men, i.e. entertainers/rappers as ininteresting, common men that no longer hold my interests. Plus, a man like Obama has more to talk about than his car, babymama, or latest drama , i.e. arrest or fight.
BTW: of course Obama would have time right now, he said he hates television. Besides, when he said on numerous occasions that he would read the Consitution line by line, that was an indication that he takes law serious, thus taking governing seriously.
I’m happy for Clinton , she has made it known that she wants a posistion, and now she can do her thing. I have respect for her, because she never bowed down during any debate, even when the men were talking as if she didn’t know.

u r right that the empolyees will notice. the point im making is giving them money isn’t going to help ur family keep a job because all the money will be used to produce a differnet type of car that ur familty has no idea how to make…what happpens then; they have to be trained. im not acting like they are invisible so chill out. im only saying that the us autoindustry only contributes to 1% of the economy, so in that matter, noone will notice.
im not saying that citi bank’s shit dont stank, what i am saying is 200 million people will be affected if citi goes under ( thats is two thirds of the US population) versus 3 million if the auto industry does. be forreal, can u really think of 200 million people in panic mode? NO.
there’s no need to get hostile, but ur family will get their pensions no matter what (if a compnay file ch 11 the gov has a program designed to support the pensions in that company) but investments aren’t coverd by the FDIC so then what happens to the 200 million people? it’s not just ur family that has to deal with the faulting economy, its the entire world. just look at the bigger picture.

Obama is trying. Its like taking over someone else’s job and fixing the mess they made and junky desk per say. That’s what its like taking over Bush’s job. He’s working and not even sworn in yet. During his time with the Senate he did things to help us then as well. Only the Obama supporters before the primaries and election would know that.
Please just encourage him and keep him in your prayers because he has a tough job ahead of him. He can’t please every single person. Main agenda is economy, health care & troops not going on 3 or 4 tours. My bff’s brother is being called to duty AGAIN. We are tired and angry,as statistics say the more he goes, the less likely he can come back to us. And the government isn’t even buying the equipment for them…gas masks etc telling them “the government doesn’t have the $”. On equipment for the Millitary you need to talk to congress. All the people after 2006 that were elected and sitting. Most people who didnt pay attention to that election year didnt know that it was not just about bring troops home, but also about money to fund troops already there. Now Obama cant speak to this because I believe he voted present and not for or against. Now remenber when Obama begain to run he was less than two years into his current term.
when you say doing things for us are you talking about Ill. because that is what he was responible for and quite frankly did not have enought to change anything are act on any of the promises he made. Bush came into office and worked as hard if not harder then Obama. He lowered tax for everyone gave out that rebate check and begain to grow the millitary all within his first year. More jobs were created under bush than under Clinton ( thats fact look it up) Also you Must understand that the us took hit that because of Bush, Obama will not have to deal with. 9/11, Katrina, Subprime loans,ie., the money for the war in Iraq is a drop in the bucket compared to those three things alone.
Troops will still have 3 and four tours, but it will be in the Afgan war. remember the promises is to end the war in Iraq and Focus on Bin Laden. Plus soldier are getting out making less soldier to rotate because there is no incentive to stay in.
