POLITICS: PRES. OBAMA’S PRESS CONFERENCE / NADER: OBAMA UNCLE SAM OR UNCLE TOM? / INAUGURATION INFO

Monday, November 10, 2008

At his first post-election news conference on Friday, President-elect Barack Obama announced that the troubled U.S. economy would be Job One in his administration: “Immediately after I become President, I will confront this economic crisis head-on by taking all necessary steps to ease the credit crisis, help hardworking families, and restore growth and prosperity.”

Check out the to-the-point 18-minute speech and question and answer session above.

NADER: OBAMA UNCLE SAM OR UNCLE TOM?

As if Ralph Nader hadn’t already caused enough problems for the Democratic Party, in a radio interview on election night, he said:

To put it very simply, he [Barack Obama] is our first African American president, or he will be. And we wish him well. But his choice, basically, is whether he is going to be Uncle Sam for the people of this country or Uncle Tom for the giant corporations.

Check out the video as Fox News anchor Shepard Smith gets at him. Hey, Shep, how about taking care of this, too?

INAUGURATION INFO

Want to be there when Pres. Barack Obama takes the oath of office in January?

Tickets to the 56th Inaugural Ceremonies will be provided free of charge and distributed through Members of the 111th Congress. Members of the public interested in attending the Inaugural Ceremonies should contact their Member of Congress or U.S. Senators to request tickets.

No website or other ticket outlet actually has inaugural swearing-in tickets to sell, regardless of what they may claim. Tickets will not be distributed to Congressional offices until the week before the inauguration and will require in-person pick-up.

I’m definitely trying to go to the presidential inauguration. My former AVID teacher actually got a deal, so no matter the cost I’ll try and figure some way to cover it. This is just something I couldn’t miss, no matter what, especially since the first vote I cast in my life was for him (I’m 18).

Anyway, I thought the Press Conference was great, and I can only expect the same caliber in future ones; I don’t know too much about Nadar, but I knew that he pretty much was respected. But now, I don’t think people have those same sentiments. His comments really made him look ridiculous, and someone who was hoping for some attention to shift his way.

Obama’s Inauguration will draw the biggest crowd in the history of inaugurations. Obama is the most famous person in the history of the world. Look at it, this guy doesn’t sing, he is not an actor, nor is he a professional athlete but yet still his pulling power is second to none. The only person I have see this much euphoria around in my lifetime would be Michael Jackson and yet still I think he’s gotten Michael beat. If someone can find facts that can prove me wrong, I would like to know.

Ralph Nader should go to Harlem or any other prominent black community to make his frivolous statements. Don’t go to Faux News, because in my opinion you are preaching to the choir in those settings. If you really want people to react to what you are saying, do it in places where you will get reactions. It might not be what you’re looking or there might be some furniture moving but you will get some reaction.

I am so proud of us (Americans) right now. We truly stepped up our game for this election. I don’t contribute only blacks although we did come out strong but you have to commend our Caucasian brothers and sisters who rose above the “norm” and voted for Obama as well. We also owe our youth, who came out in insurmountable numbers” to vote for the first time. Again, I’m so proud of each and every one of us and we’re making history in 09. It’s time for us to step up our game as African Americans, unite with our fellow Americans and support our New Great President. We can do this!!!! God Bless the United States of America!!!!!

Monday, November 10, 2008 /

I was a little taken aback by President-Elect Obama’s (I love saying that) comment, when he called himself a ‘mutt.’ However over the weekend I read a really good article from the Associated Press that said him saying that was America’s first indication of how his presidency is going to be different that others before him.

I’m sure that being of mixed race Obama has heard people being called that and may have even been called that himself. At first when he said it I was very uneasy but this article let it be known that to hide it, to speak silently of it only makes it worse but to expose racism allow it to rear its ugly head and confront it by bringing it out into the open is the only way to defeat it.

It reminded me of the movie 8 Mile when Rabbit (Eminem) started rapping about himself, he knew that the other rappers that night had based all their material about him, Rabbit was rapping about all the things that they were going to say about him, which left them with nothing left to say.

Anyway it was a good article.

@#8, you done lost your ignorant spineless mind. Obama’s very popular NOW but his fame is nothin like that of Elvis Presley worldwide. That man’s been dead for over 30 years and still worshipped like a GOD to billions! His home is a world historical shrine and the most famous home int he world and his grave has been visited by millions from all over, including black folks. Michael “I play with little boys” Jackson is a freak and ain’t even relevant anymore.

Like the man or not but Elvis is an icon who is probably the most recognized name and face ever to walk this earth. Even in Egypt they refer to King tut as “their Elvis”. Not their Michael or Obama. LMAO Not to mention that in Israel where Jese walked that Elvis has a big following there with both jews and muslims. They wanna put an Elvis statue in the holy land.

Looky here white folks, its President-Elect Obama, he has won, he is our President, he didn’t do this on his own Americans chose him! With all the obstacles this new president has to face all the mess he has to fix support him cause you damn sure can’t criticize him!! @ Keepin’ It Real….From your comments I can tell you are white…. Elvis…are you kidding me? Elvis is only big among white people. I don’t know any Black person who listens to Elvis. Hey Angel I should get paid for educating these ignoramuses on your site. Now back to this dirt-bag…do you really want to know the truth is about Elvis’ fame? If it wasn’t for Little Richard, Elvis would starve to death. School children in England know that white people exalted Elvis, because rock n roll was created by black people and since black people had a hard time reaching main stream or public radio, by default white people crowned Elvis, one of their own, the King. Do you know that When “That’s All Right” was played, many white listeners thought Presley must be black, prompting white disc-jockeys to ignore his singles. Elvis had undoubtedly “stolen” or at least “derived his style from the Negro rhythm-and-blues performers of the late 1940s. Now who is the ignorant one? I don’t give a shit what crazy white people want to believe, the facts are the facts. Try researching it someday; this might stop you from making a fool of yourself, AGAIN!!!!

from slave to master

Monday, November 10, 2008 /

What an incredible time. For nearly 300 years, White House, the house that slaves built, has been off limits….

Construction on the President’s House began in 1792 in Washington, D.C., a new capital situated in sparsely settled region far from a major population center. The decision to place the capital on land ceded by two slave states–Virginia and Maryland–ultimately influenced the acquisition of laborers to construct its public buildings. The D.C. commissioners, charged by Congress with building the new city under the direction of the president, initially planned to import workers from Europe to meet their labor needs. However, response to recruitment was dismal and soon they turned to African Americans – slave and free – to provide the bulk of labor that built the White House, the United States Capitol, and other early government buildings.
A major concern in the construction of the new public buildings in this remote location was the acquisition of building materials, such as stone, lumber, bricks, hardware, and nails. Black quarrymen, sawyers, brickmakers, and carpenters fashioned raw materials into the products used to erect the White House. Master stonemason, Collen Williamson, trained slaves on the spot at the government’s quarry at Aquia, Virginia. There slaves quarried and cut the rough stone that was later dressed and laid by Scottish stonecutters to erect the walls of the President’s House. Sawyers listed on government payrolls, such as “Jerry”, “Jess”, “Charles”, “Len”, “Dick”, “Bill” and “Jim” undoubtedly were slaves leased from their masters. Free and slave blacks burnt bricks used to line the stone walls in temporary ricks on the President’s House grounds. Often working seven days a week during the high construction summer months alongside white workers and artisans, black laborers proved vital to the work force that created both the White House and U.S. Capitol.

@36, White? I don’t think so bro. I’m blacker than you, lol. But I know right from wrong and what you said was beyond wrong. Blacks don’t like Elvis? So what do you call Beyonce, 50 Cent, 3 Six Mafia, and other black celebs praising him on tv last year? You need to wake the fuk up because Little Richard not only gives Elvis his props but also highlighted an Elvis music festival in his hometown of Tupelo. James Brown called Elvis his brother. Ali was very close to Elvis. Al Sharpton visited Graceland during Dr King week earlier this week in Memphis.

Maybe you should get out of the hood a little more and get educated.

a simple question to ask that would have made Nader look like an idiot or at least employ his brain is: “If he were white would that uncle tom statement still apply” or “are you saying that all poor ppl in this country are black and hispanic”
like come on.

46.

Maxim

Tuesday, November 11, 2008 /

I don’t think most of ya’ll understand what Mr. Nader is saying..first & foremost he did not call Obama a uncle tom,,,what ge said is that Obama can either be a president who really live up to his word & help poor people or he can be a tool to the corporations that donated billions of dollars to his campaign & who controls both the republican and democratic parties. It like if your in a jewerly store & right b4 the owner of the store steps out he says to u: “I’am going to step out of the store & leave u alone: either u going 2 be a good citizen or a thief”…does that mean u were called a thief?

#43 How did Nader ruin Al Gore & Kerry from becoming the president…I don’t think most people realize that no where in the constitution it state anything about political parties and that the U.S. is one of the only first-world nations where 2 parties control everything…In a nation of 300 million people and counting and we only have a choice of two parties. Al Gore lost the elections because he saparated himself from Clinton (because of the lewinsky shit) during his 2000 campaign and he even lost his own state (Tennessee). Kerry lost because he allowed the GOP 2 swift boat him and Bush scared the country into thinking that Kerry would be soft on terrorist. In no way Nader ruin both of these men chances of winning the elections especially since few can ever say that they seen/heard a Nader spot on radio or tv.

@ Keeping it Real…

Blacker than me? Good God, even worse. A Black man who would rather exalt the white man than his own. Wow, I thought Judah was the last of the dying breed of Uncle Toms but I guess I am being too optimistic. And your “hood” comment clearly depicts your level of ignorance. Believe me, dude, though I do not live in the “hood” there are people in the “hood” that are way more intelligent than people in suburbia. Ignorant might be too strong of a word, but you certainly know a lot about things that aren’t so.
