I purchased her cd and I have to be honest. I have never been a fan of anyone but my parents…. I was never a Destiny’s Child fan but they did have certain songs I liked and played from time to time. I have never been a Beyonce fan but again she had certain songs I liked to play. I’m not fond of the current Beyonce cd it’s just ok… The Sasha Fierce cd is good.. on a whole both cds lack oopmh… There are songs on both cds that could have been combined into one cd and been great!

Also, on the flip side I feel the same about Ri and MJB there are songs I like but not whole cd’s….Ri’s voice has a tendency to annoy me that girly cutesy Disney sound grates my nerve sometime and MJB can yell and get gritty way too much for my tastes but no doubt ALL three ladies have talent and that is undeniable. Beyonce’s hair looks very tacky. The weave ponytail does not go with that dress. I think they have run out of ideas. she looks very old and tired these days. She’s on her way to Janetville lol this cd will be her first real flop. should help to shrink her oversized ego. lol she looks terrible without lace fronts and full head of horse hair yaki weave.

Beyonce looks fabulous from the neck up. Love her hair & makeup, and the earrings are fierce. I’m not sure about the dress, though. From some camera angles, it’s very flattering, and on others, not so much. Not feeling the magazine cover … it’s just … strange. But Bey’s always a beautiful, poised young lady.

One Star for the album

Before I start, I’m just gonna say I’m not an amazing reviewer, but I am going to give an honest review.

I am definately not the biggest Beyonce fan by far, as I usually like to stray away from mainstream music as often as I can, being such over processed crap as most of it is. But this is Beyonce we’re talking about, she has amazing talent, and an amazing vocal range. Which is why I’m so appalled that she had the audacity to release such an album. It’s almost like she’s saying, “I’m Beyonce, I’m amazing, and people will jump on anything I create, so why even make an attempt.”
I’m one of the idiots who purchased the deluxe album, and after unwrapping it at home and actually checking out the track listing and such, all of these songs could have DEFINATELY fit onto one album. There was nothing deluxe about it.
After listening to the first disc, I almost felt I had to check my stereo to make sure I didn’t have the same song on repeat over and over. The entire first disc is nothing but power ballads, that lack just that, power. There was no emotion, they all sounded exactly the same: bland, dull, and over-polished. It made me feel like she went into the studio and just recorded each track to the same intrumental, back to back, and called it a night.

The second disc I’m assuming was supposed to be the disc with club anthems, party songs and such. It had the typical “independent” ladies song, and the typical “boast like a man” song. I forced myself through the whole thing just to say I gave it a shot. Basically the only song worth anything on this entire collection is the song “Single Ladies”, which I’m still not bananas about.
Beyonce, you’re incredible, but this album was a slap in the face to all of your fans and anyone who even mildly liked you. Giving it two stars is generous, and I wasn’t in the mood.

It definately seems like I’m bashing Beyonce in this review, but I’m not bashing her, I’m bashing her feeble effort in this album release. I’m sure she’ll notice the poor feedback from this cd and the next will be incredible. She should definately take her time and create an album with songs that have some staying power. Because if there ever was a Beyonce album to forget in the dust it’s definately this one.

These posts about Beyonce make me wonder if some of these people are getting paid to be on her defense team. Everyone is entitiled to their own opinion. Her album is garbage. It’s just an opinion. No artist, singer, actor, actress is liked by everybody. I think her music is recycled and the lyrics are very childish. I wonder what is she going to sing about in the next 5 years when she’s 32.

I bought her album yesterday. “Halo” and “Ave Maria” are glorious (I can’t say enough about those 2 songs!), but the rest of the album is a snore. I applaud her for taking risks on the new album , something I feel she was never able to do before. I really respect her for taking her music in a new direction and producing some true art, but some of those tracks are barely listenable.

Her dress is really cute in those pics, but I’m among those that thinks she is prettier with more makeup. She looks kind of dry without it.

A double dose of Beyonce and her alter ego will grab the top spot on the HITS Album Sales chart next week, as her two-CD Music World/Columbia set, I Am… Sasha Fierce, will debut at #1 with 500-550k in sales, according to those hardy retailers who still have their doors open.

With a stunning appearance on Saturday Night Live last weekend, two hit singles in “If I Were a Boy” and “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” and a starring role as Etta James in the upcoming Chess Records movie, Cadillac Records (and its accompanying soundtrack), Beyonce might as well be Sasha Claus.

The real tussle will be right below that for #2, as a debuting RCA/RMG’s David Cook and Roadrunner’s Nickelback go head-to-head with this week’s chart-topper, Big Machine’s Taylor Swift, in her second week. All look to be in the 300k range, mas o menos.

Syco/Columbia’s Il Divo, Simon Cowell’s tenor heartthrobs, are in the 100-125k range.

Other Top 50 newcomers will include Epic’s masked metal marauders Mudvayne, with 40-50k, and Asylum rapper Slim at 30-40k.

Sunday will mark the release of Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy, while IDJ beats the Tuesday rush with three biggies in Kanye West, The Killers and Ludacris in stores on the Monday before Black Friday.

The market was up 27% vs. last week, down 24% vs. the same week last year and still down 13% year to date.

Beyonce Knowles is one of the most commercially potent entertainers in the world, but you wouldn’t necessarily know it listening to her albums.

She may be one of the biggest-selling artists of the last decade with Destiny’s Child and as a solo star. She may be 24-7 tabloid fodder thanks to her marriage to hip-hop mogul Jay-Z. But the Houston native doesn’t go on any power trips when she makes music.

Instead, she presents life not as a celebrity circus, but as a private hell of romantic travail. On her third solo album, the double-disc “I Am … Sasha Fierce” (Sony), out Tuesday, she splits her artistic persona in half to address her favorite subject: Men, and the mess they make of women’s lives.

The first disc focuses on ballads that hint at introspection. The second adopts an alter ego — “Sasha Fierce” – to dish out dancefloor dirt. The production sticks to form, clearing out things for Beyonce’s thin, pretty voice to deliver thin, pretty hooks galore. But the gimmicky concept falls flat.

In the album’s first half, Beyonce adopts a familiar (if dispiriting) guise: Doormat. “If I Were a Boy” offers a promising premise, the kind of illuminating gender-bender Prince might’ve written, but instead portrays the narrator as a needy victim. It’s more of the same role that Beyonce also played on her previous album, the 2006 release “B-Day.” Her softer songs inevitably portray men as unfaithful curs, but she still can’t live without them.

Emotional fragility suits her airy voice. Songs such as “Disappear” and “Ave Marie” (which, besides referencing the hymn, offers a rare moment of comfort) come off as delicate as her emotions.

She flips the always-second-best script on the second disc. She’s on a post-breakup bender, but still feels the need to explain herself: “Cried my tears for three good years/Ya can’t be mad at me.”

The disc contains more attitude than we’re used to hearing from Beyonce, who usually errs on the side of heart-break and generic declarations of female solidarity. She’d rather make love to the sounds pouring from her “Radio” or perform for a “Video Phone” than commit to another long-term relationship. Her prescription for getting over what’s-his-name is to behave just as irresponsibly: “A diva is a female version of a hustler.”

The latter song’s menacing rhythm and chanted vocals mark the album’s biggest departure. But Beyonce doesn’t make a very convincing vixen. “Sasha Fierce” sounds more like a pose than a credible alter-ego.

A double dose of Beyonce and her alter ego will grab the top spot on the HITS Album Sales chart next week, as her two-CD Music World/Columbia set, I Am… Sasha Fierce, will debut at #1 with 500-550k in sales, according to those hardy retailers who still have their doors open.

With a stunning appearance on Saturday Night Live last weekend, two hit singles in “If I Were a Boy” and “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” and a starring role as Etta James in the upcoming Chess Records movie, Cadillac Records (and its accompanying soundtrack), Beyonce might as well be Sasha Claus.

The real tussle will be right below that for #2, as a debuting RCA/RMG’s David Cook and Roadrunner’s Nickelback go head-to-head with this week’s chart-topper, Big Machine’s Taylor Swift, in her second week. All look to be in the 300k range, mas o menos.

Syco/Columbia’s Il Divo, Simon Cowell’s tenor heartthrobs, are in the 100-125k range.

Other Top 50 newcomers will include Epic’s masked metal marauders Mudvayne, with 40-50k, and Asylum rapper Slim at 30-40k.

Sunday will mark the release of Guns N’ Roses’ Chinese Democracy, while IDJ beats the Tuesday rush with three biggies in Kanye West, The Killers and Ludacris in stores on the Monday before Black Friday.

The market was up 27% vs. last week, down 24% vs. the same week last year and still down 13% year to date.

An icon is a world renowned entertainer that has longetivity. A person that changed an era with his/her presence, style and talent. A person whose music transcends every ‘fad’ the music business rides. A person whose style is emulated in today’s music.

Examples, you ask??

Madonna- yeah, many say she can’t sing but the lady has been in the game successfully for a long time and she single-handedly started many fashion crazes in the 80’s. Whose jockin’ Madonna’s style? Gwen Stefani, Rihanna, Katy Perry, etc.

Prince- need I say more.

Michael Jackson- fits the bill of an icon. Whose jockin’ MJ’s style? Usher, Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, etc.

So, as you can see class, Beyonce is popular by today’s standards and she is definitely working to become an icon. Is she there yet? No. Will she get there? I’m sure she will.

As Beyoncé prepares to release a new double album, half of which is credited to her alter-ego Sasha Fierce, Rob Morgan argues that the multi-talented diva doesn’t always get the credit she deserves…

They say that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. In that case, somewhere in a basement in Texas there is a picture of Beyoncé as a talentless American Idol wannabe, growing irrelevant as she lip-syncs her one hit single in shopping malls. The girl in the picture fails and falters, squandering her career performing flabbily at high profile award shows. She slides out of limos paying paparazzi’s mortgages with a flash up her skirt, in and out of rehab, striving to satisfy the media’s appetite for novelty with ever diminishing returns.

Meanwhile, the public face of Beyoncé is Sasha Fierce, an indestructible fictional character who can do no wrong.

There’s a pub game that uses ‘Chuck Norris Facts’ style nonsense to celebrate Beyoncé’s skill set: “Beyoncé can swim underwater for nine miles”, “Beyoncé’s all-female band Suga Mama actually features all females” or, my favourite, “Beyoncé is the only person who can do the Moonwalk forwards”.

It does sometimes seem that she can do anything. Yet I’d say she’s rarely given the credit for it.

I can hear the snorts now. Beyoncé underrated? Isn’t the wall to wall coverage enough for this wannabe Tina Turner clothes horse?

OK, I’m not saying she’s not exposed: she’s promoted everywhere and in every gossip magazine. The highest-earning female artist will always be. All that obscures her various talents.

In no particular order, Beyoncé is a pretty good actress. Dreamgirls was everything it should have been. If she gets her way (and Beyoncé always gets her way), she’ll be an excellent Wonder Woman. Then there’s the songwriting. She’s co-written 10 or more number one singles. Like too many successful female songwriters, there’s a question mark hanging over that claim. People assume that, really, a man must have done the difficult bit of writing the songs, or at least helped her with the heavy lifting.

As discussed here, new single If I Were A Boy was written by a San Diego singer called BC Jean. It’s credited to Jean and her producer, not to Beyoncé. Roger Friedman of Fox News has weighed in on this and claimed that Beyoncé’s famously tough manager father tried to bully her way onto the writing credits.

It’s easy to believe that happened - adding people to the writing credits of songs as a way of getting your share is as old as the music business itself. This story has spread all over the internet just from Friedman’s one paraphrased, unsubstantiated “I’m told that…” story. But Friedman has it in for Knowles. He has long disputed her songwriting accomplishments. He makes the ridiculous claim that Crazy In Love is just the horn sample, or that Baby Boy and Naughty Girl are no more than the songs they draw from (Here Comes The Hot Stepper and Love To Love You Baby).

Now there’s his statement that BC Jean’s version of her song is “certainly as good as Beyonce’s if not better”. That version is available on Jean’s website and listening to that raspy, whiny Four Non Blondes original makes me appreciate the Beyoncé soulful version all the more.

Knowles can really sing. She was responsible for Destiny’s Child’s signature staccato vocal style. If I Were A Boy is another step forward for her voice. Compare it to Madonna’s stylistically-similar torch songs with William Orbit and it’s clear that all the songwriting and production muscle in the world won’t give a thin voice the depth Beyoncé has summoned up nowadays.

The evidence that Knowles is falsely claiming to write songs to which she made no significant contribution is slim, but for some reason, people want to believe it in a way they don’t when it’s George Michael or Michael Jackson.

Which brings me to another one of Beyoncé’s qualities. Let’s face it, her looks haven’t done her career any harm. I find that if I say, “the thing she does with her leg in Crazy In Love”, few women, but all men will know exactly what I’m talking about. It often seems that a woman has to look good to have a chance of success in the sexist music business.

It’s deceptive, though. I’d say looks are another reason Beyoncé is underrated. Beauty gets the exposure and shifts units, but if it’s acclaim you want they count against you. If you want to win awards, it’s better to be Adele than Joss Stone. In Hollywood, if Nicole Kidman wants to be taken seriously one week, she uglifies herself with a fake nose and wins an Oscar. There is no equivalent for the female pop star. Unlike Robbie Williams or Justin Timberlake, if she starts as eye candy that’s what she remains.

Oh, and Beyoncé can dance. See the no-frills dance-only video to other current single Single Ladies. Then see the Saturday Night Live skit of the same video to prove she has a sense of humour.

The gimmick with the new double album is that half of it is not Beyoncé, it’s Sasha Fierce. “Sasha is the fun, more sensual, more aggressive, more outspoken side and more glamorous side that comes out when I’m working and when I’m on the stage.”

She’s been rattling on about Sasha for years now. The idea is that Sasha is a psychological defence mechanism, a split personality that allows her to retain who she really is off stage.

All very neat, but don’t be fooled. Yes, Sasha is a trick, but it’s not the trick she says she is. Talking about her fantastic show-stealing performance with Prince at the 2004 Grammys, Bee said “I saw that I didn’t even give him the mic. It was supposed to be in the middle, not in front of my mouth. Sasha just took over.”

Hmm. Sasha isn’t a way of protecting poor Beyoncé from the intrusions of fame, she’s a way of protecting us from the terrifyingly ambitious, feral, real Ms Beyoncé Knowles. She’s a way of disguising from the world quite how talented, successful and underrated she is - and just how much she wants this. It’s understandable, really. We need Sasha to be a fake because Beyoncé is too good to be true.

You know what, I am a die hard Beyonce fan, but the stans on this site take the conversation to an ignorant level. Beyonce Knowles, who is barely 27 and well on her way to establishing herself as a corporation with feet in music, film and fashion, is a hard woman to resist. Beyond her good looks and talent, she has the moxie to produce records that are state of the art.

Her latest, “I am… Sasha Fierce” (Sony/BMG), appeared in stores on Nov. 18 and sprawls across two discs. It is ambitious, cutting through a myriad of styles -– from musings that wouldn’t be out of place on a Stevie Wonder or Joan Armatrading album, to flat-out, driving R&B for dancing and blasting from car stereos.

This is music the way we hear it today on the radio, the beats we dance to and the look, the groove, the vibe that will leave a mark on a decade of pop music. Beyonce has two films coming out in the next year: she will be hard to overlook in the coming months, so get used to it.

“Sasha Fierce,” which Beyonce says draws its name from her on-stage alter ego, was overseen by more producers, musicians and engineers to create 100 records. It still feels singularly focused around her own personality and ideas.

“Sasha” is split into two discs, with the first offering the more restrained songs and the second emphasizing up-tempo dance. The material is strong enough to carry it without boredom.

I would have been satisfied with just the first disc, mostly because the kind of dance-oriented R&B that fuels disc no. 2 isn’t my cup of tea and never will be. Still, fans who already snacked on monster hits such as “Crazy in Love” or “Ring the Alarm” will find new work like “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” just as propulsive.

Disc two could be played on a Saturday night, while the mellower, more introspective first CD, embellished with guitars and often spare arrangements, can follow on Sunday when songs such as “Ave Maria” and “Satellites” will help to soften the mood.

Beyonce’s singing remains tremendous, mostly because she has the sense of restraint that eludes other divas such as Maria Carey or Whitney Houston. Instead of spending every bar trying to impress you with vocal gymnastics, Beyonce remains controlled, tasteful, riding the beat, placing the emphasis on control, color and teasing the melody.

Although the lyrics are sometimes vapid or just silly -– did you expect Bob Dylan here? –- there are some killer moments, especially on “If I Were a Boy,” in which she imagines herself as a better member of the opposite sex than those born into it.

This is the kind of intelligent, passionate material modern radio so desperately needs. In “Boy,” which peaked at no. 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100, I haven’t heard a better mainstream single this year.

I guess it’s better that way, since the other two album were so immediate. It took me a bit more time to appreciate the sound. Satellites and Halo are beautiful.

On her third solo disc, Beyoncé returns with a concept album of sorts, a double disc with disc 1 comprising ballads reflecting Beyoncé, and disc 2 comprising more uptempo songs reflecting her fiercer alter ego, Sasha.

Opening the album is the smash hit “If I were a boy”, co-penned by Toby Gad who also co-penned such lovely acoustic ballads for Fergie (”Big girls don’t cry”) and Donna Summer (”Sand on my feet”). The song is a beautiful acoustic ballad with Beyoncé stepping into a guys’ shoes and telling how she would treat a girl better if she were a guy. It also features some of Beyoncé’s most heartfelt and best vocals. Other standouts on Disc 1 are “Broken-hearted girl”, the acoustic “Smash into you” (on the deluxe edition), and the bonus cut “Save the hero”, a Timbaland-style groove with lyrics asking who will be there for her in her time of need, as she’s always there for others.

Disc 2 boasts more sonic variety; The techno-tinged “Radio”, the club number “Sweet dreams” (which sounds like something off of former bandmate Michelle’s recent Dance CD), the piano drenched “Hello”, the retro Soul sounding “Ego” (with organ, horns and lovely harmonies), the stomping Darkchild produced “Scared of lonely” (nice keyboards and swirling synth effects) and the closing bonus cut co-penned by her sister Solange (who I feel should have co-penned the entire CD), the Motown-tinged bouncy “Why don’t you love me” (the latter 4 on the deluxe edition).

That makes it 10 good songs on the entire album (assuming you have all 18 cuts). And therein lies the problem. The disc could have been effectively whittled down to just 10 tracks and it would have been much more effective. Songs like “Single ladies”, “Diva”, and “Video phone” are more of the same skeletal atonal tuneless stuff like “Ring the alarm” or “Get me bodied”, while much of Disc 1 passes by harmlessly making no impact. Disc 1 sounds like an attempt to muscle in on Leona Lewis’ territory; “Halo” was co-written by the same chap that co-wrote “Bleeding love” for Leona and was apparently originally intended for Leona. The songs also largely lack the vocal dexterity she displayed in her first CD on songs like “Be with you”, “Yes” or “Speechless”; her singing on practically every song except “If I were a boy” is basically the same. Also, she seems unable to recapture the charm and excitement that was “Crazy in love”.

If you go for the regular edition of the album, you miss most of the best songs (”Smash into you”, “Hello”, “Ego”, “Scared of lonely”, and bonus tracks “Save the hero” and “Why don’t you love me”). It’s really pointless getting the regular edition. All 11 songs on the regular edition could have conveniently fit onto a single disc.

I won’t be surprised if months down the line, she releases a deluxe deluxe edition including the good songs that should have been on the album in the first place, much like she did with “B’day”.

I don’t have a lot of good to say for this album. “I Am…Sasha Fierce” appears to be an ambitious creative undertaking by the undeniably talented Beyonce, and in many ways it is. But it’s that very ambition that nearly destroys this project.

From the first single off the album “If I Were a Boy” you get a distinct feeling that Beyonce is trying very hard to branch out into different territory. The song is quite understated for her, although her signature shatter every piece of glass within a 3 mile radius pipes do start in during the somewhat over-dramatic chorus. Still, it’s a nice song and accessible enough.
The next track on the album is “Halo” which is one of the stronger songs on the whole album. It has a big sound and it really compliments Beyonce’s style without sounding too much like her previous work. Unfortunately after that things start to go downhill. “Disappear” sounds interesting for the first 10 seconds, but then the generic drum machines kick in and the rest of the song is a slow, bland mess. “Broken-Hearted Girl” is almost indistinguishable from the track before it, and it’s just as dull. “Ave Marie” has beautiful vocals and is a very nice song, but it’s not something most people will listen to constantly. “Satellites” almost reminds me of some type of trance music. It’s very understated, but it’s also nearly lifeless. Just try staying awake listening to that over and over again.

Then comes disc 2, “Sasha Fierce”. I expected this disc to really pick things up after a first disc full of disappointing slow songs that could barely even be deemed ballads. After all, Sasha Fierce is supposed to be the high-energy side of Beyonce that we’re all familiar with from her “B’Day” album. Well, it turns out that this time around “Sasha Fierce” barely even has a pulse. Things kick off with “Single Ladies” which sounds like a “B’Day” leftover, (that’s actually a good thing), and it really is what we expect from Ms. Fierce. But that turns out to be the only track that has anywhere near that much ferocity. Next is “Radio” which is a busy number, but still falls short somehow. I suppose it could go over well in a club with a bunch of flashing lights, but it can be quite noisy to listen to by oneself.
Next is “Diva” which just sounds like a female knockoff of Lil’Wayne’s “A Milli”. It’s very street and pompous and will probably annoy anyone who isn’t a fan of that generic hip-hop sound.
“Sweet Dreams” is a respectable track if for no other reason than that it’s obviously different, but for some reason it’s yet another song I can’t bring myself to listen more than a few times. Honestly, it doesn’t sound like it really fits in with the rest of the songs anyway.
The next track “Video Phone” is just too street for me. The production is uninspired and it’s lacking energy just like the rest of “Sasha Fierce”. And it’s about making video phone porn. Great.
If you want the REAL Sasha Fierce you’ll have to go listen to “B’Day” because this is honestly the ghettofied version of Beyonce in many respects. And it doesn’t suit her well. Perhaps we have her new husband to thank for that.

I’d say if you have to buy this album then get the Deluxe version. The extra tracks “Ego”, “Scared of Lonely”, “Hello”, “Smash Into You”, and “That’s Why You’re Beautiful” are almost all superior to anything on the standard edition. I believe Beyonce knows this which is why she’s releasing “Ego” as her next single.

I have to say that overall I feel the first disc from “I Am…” will bore many listeners, and the second disc will leave them wondering if Sasha Fierce is the woman they’ve seen strutting on stage to tracks like “Crazy In Love” and “Ring the Alarm” or a diva looking for street cred like on tracks “Diva” and “Video Phone”. I’ll give Beyonce props for trying something different with the first disc, but it’s really not enough. Both discs are a mish-mash of sounds that don’t gel together well and make it strikingly obvious that Beyonce was experimenting in the studio. Problem is, most of those experiments went awry, and those that didn’t seem too safe and boring.

A final note: I have NO clue why Beyonce decided to split this work into two disc. It was totally pointless, especially for the standard edition which only gives you 6 songs on one disc and 5 on the other. But even with the two standard discs conjoined, the extra tracks from the deluxe edition added, and the bonus tracks from Japan added as well, every song would fit on ONE disc with room to spare. The two disc thing proves to be little more than an annoyance and I hope Beyonce won’t do it again. I do feel that the whole thing is about record sales more than anything else.

I don’t even believe that Beyonce is human anymore. How can a woman fall down while performing and bounce back up like nothing happened. Do she ever get tired? She already missed out on her childhood trying to get her singing career going, this is the time I would be enjoying my life. And Jay-Z ain’t going to be with her long, but she seems to care more about her career than him. She’s not spending enough time with him because she’s always performing or got her ugly behind in somebody’s movie or on a mgazine cover. She wants to be the Queen Bee I guess. Honey, if you don’t sit down and chill, you are going to really lose it and have a nervous breakdown. She’s trying to do too many things at one time. I’m sure that your fans want a healthy Beyonce, not some fool who never have time to sleep or even use the restroom. And the funny part about this whole thing is that she chooses to keep performing and making albums. This woman is rich enough to sit down and take a break for at least two years without doing anything. This woman is definitely a work-a-holic. I was a huge fan of Beyonce’s until I got tired of looking at her everywhere. She decided to put out another album when she saw that Rihanna was getting all of her spotlight.
