♫ THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW ♫

Thursday, November 13, 2008

♫ Brandy feat. James Fauntleroy - Drumlife (full) - listen
Wow. I understand why this didn’t go on Brandy’s new album, Human, slated for release December 9th, but I really love it. This song feels so good to me. A lot of the material that we’ve gotten from Brandy this era has been a little sad, but this song really makes me feel good. With Timbaland on the production, and the amazing writer, James Fauntleroy penning the tracks and on background vocals, I just really dig the direction. I’m hoping that the Timbaland productions on the album feel somewhat like this.

♫ Jamie Foxx - Baby Baby Damn (full) - listen
Since the announcement of the release of Jamie Foxx’s new album, Intuition, it seems as though material has began to leak from left and right. Although the new single is growing on me, this pretty much sounds like some leftovers from the first album. Produced by the Underdogs (not surprised), production-wise, it’s a little dated for me. It sounds like the stuff they were doing for Omarion and B2K years ago. Hopefully, this is from old sessions - Jamie’s gotta come harder than this.

♫ R. City - Get It Got (full) - listen
Check out this new track from my homies of R. City, produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. These guys are amazing songwriters, and I absolutely loved their first single, “Losin’ It.” They’re signed to Akon’s Konvict Muzik imprint, and I’m hoping to hear more from them soon. They are really talented guys, and I’ve even had the pleasure of watching them perform live and I absolutely love their energy. This isn’t the typical Rodney production, but I love it just the same. It’s reminiscent of some of the other work they’ve penned over Rodney’s beats for other artists.

♫ Johnta Austin - Patron (full) - listen
I don’t understand what’s going on with Johnta… music keeps coming out left and right with no news of what’s going on with his project, Ocean Drive - which supposedly had been shelved. The production is from my homie Bryan-Michael Cox. I always dig the material that he drops, but I just wanna know what all of it’s for… Johnta needs to let us know what’s going on.

I heart Johnta Austin. This dude is the truth! Too bad his debut album was slept on though.

Brandy bores me.

I am excited about Jamie’s new project though.

The Brandy track is very Hot but I know for A fact that This is just a DEMO and not the Finished version,So pleaze don’t judge this one so harshly but none the less I think overall Human is not a sad album but this Track is just very Dance oriented, It may be a bonus track on HUMAN or on Timbaland’s “Shock Value 2″ album!!!

That Brandy track stinks….she has goone far left with her music. Its like when she took the braids out and lost all that weight; that looked very good on her by the way, its like all the soul in her music has gone and she just went pop white girl beebop…im not feelin any of her new music and hasnt been feelin her since that last cd she came out with. I love Brandy but the old Brandy was my girl. The Baby baby baby and Angel in Disguise the Boy is Mine Brandy….she was the sh*t.

Brandy (The real Queen B) Stan

Thursday, November 13, 2008 /

Brandy has always been “far left” IMO, so idk why this song is a shock to some of you. I think she has her OWN genre of RnB that people started following. Remember “All In Me” and “I thought”? Those were considered far left, but it wasnt white girl pop @ all, it was just B-Rocka doin her. This track is very different, and it’ll have to grow on me. But her album is going to beeeee siiiiiiiiiick.

To make it simple. Brandy will bring RnB back, cuz its SO dead right now.

Oh yeah, Jamie = YAWN. He’s tryin way too hard to be Tank, and he’s not close

R. City is very refreshing. I like how versatile they are.

Johnta…. he’s difficult. He’s spent so much time writing for other artists… that he sounds like he’s trying to copy their style, when in reality, he created their style. It’s a tricky situation being a writer, because your style is already out there once you try to become a singer, so its not original to listeners.

THIS BRANDY SONG IS SICKENING!

Yo Brian. I read the first comment and was immediately pissed. That Jaime Foxx track was hella dated…and what exactly does Rihanna’s “Rehab” have to do with it. FYI: That track was actually recorded around the same time as Future/Sex/Love/Sound. Keep doing you bruh! You keep comin wit the fiyah!

im not feelin any of them either, as for brandy she aint bringing no dam r&b back, looks to me like she trying to catch the pop audience with this lackluster tracks ive been hearing, dont look like ill be copping brandy this time…just not feelin nothing and this is not a comeback!

Excuze Me but please educate yourself about Brandy, She has always been mostly influenced by pop with her RnB, her last album did not do as well due 2 her making it more “Urban” She is a brand and you need to recognize that her sound is not for the common Hoodrat such as yourself. B’rocka Killed it with Full Moon, Shytted with Afrodisiac, and she shall Slay the game with HUMAN,

Brandy is definaely bringing r n b back and why do people always got to bring other artist names up if you want to talk about them then do it on their post not Brandy’s. Another thing I think it’s just the meda and other artist who cares about the compettion Brandy doesn’t care she is more loyal to her fans like a real artist should be.

The Brandy song is sick. Great dance song. If anything please listen to the lyrics. Bran always delivers in the lyrics department. Just to clarify things Bran was one of the first to branch off into that genre of Euro Pop-the sound that everyone is on now-yeah she was on it on her Full Moon cd, “All in Me” and “I Thought”. Funny how everyone is doing it now, yet she’s labled “far left”.

I see how she put her braids back in, it seems she’s doing it only to please the few who want the “old Brandy” back. She’s a grown ass women who’s evolved. Those braids are an old and distant image. That’s like asking Pink to dye her hair back to pink or Beyonce to restore the cornrows. Do you Bran, others follow.

I’ve heard a couple tracks from R. City and I’m feeling their music. This one is mediocre compared to the reggae/dancehall ones I’ve heard. Can they get a album popping already?

Thursday, November 13, 2008 /

Jamie’s song sound straight Tank-jacked! R. City sounds straight Black Eyed Peas-jacked! Brandy’s song actually doesn’t sound that bad and I bet you someone else would have did it (someone w/ a softer voice), it would be a banger. Johnta song needs revision and I think it would be better BUT that doesn’t say much since the song isn’t great (or good in my opinion). I think Johnta is letting the pressures get to him. He USED to be on top but after his album got shelved, his music has been lacking. Poor thang…. JOHNTA WAKE UP BOO! You have talent and we need you!

who ever said brandy’s song is a breath of fresh air..um were we listening to the same song ? That song was boring as hell like all of her songs..brandy hasn’t comeout w/ real great music since the 90’s..i’m talking about have you ever, sittin up in room days….jamie’s song WAS dated after 1 minute i was bored and moved to the r.city song which i can say that that song was A BREATH OF FRESH AIR atleast sorta lol cause it had the outcast/ andre 3000 funky feel to it which i dont mind cause i love it and as for Johnta i felt like i was listening to a trey songz knock off…over all R.city wins for the best new song..one thing all these songs lacked was substance ok after u party and 4get ur troubles for 1 night then what?…..common, lupe, lauryn hill, talib, india.arie, nd kanye needs to school these ppl

For the first time in a while I think all the songs in this post are pretty cool…

Brandy-I like the song. Even though I’m little weary of the euro pop sound I don’t mind hearing it from Brandy. She had that sound before it became trendy again anyway. I heard this song won’t be album, but it’s still alrigtht for what it is which is an upbeat joint.

Jamie-This sounds heavily influenced by Tank, but it’s still a nice song. I actually like this better than his new single.

R.City-This isn’t bad. I like the upbeat feel of the track. Wouldn’t mind hearing something else from them.

Johnta-Finally another song a like from him. The others from the previous posts sounded like filler material, but this actually grabbed by attention. Singing and even even rapping about Patron is tired now, but this song is actually quite good to me. I feel bad for him though, he has the talent but has trouble with material that will grab people’s attention. I don’t think he should give up, he has what it takes. He just has to set himslef apart a little bit so he won’t sound mediocre compared to what’s already out there.

Deadd @ ya’ll misinterpreting. I think he meant Bran’s music has been sad in terms of sentiment. Not quality. This is the first uptempo we’ve heard….and its
definitely a demo…unfinished. You can tell it’s not mixed. The official version will
probably be hot. But it won’t be on her album. Maybe on Tim’s Shock Value 2.

It’s a first time in a long time I’ve listened to all the songs in a new music review post.

Each song has something I like. The Jamie Foxx song sounds like something Tank would do though. Those guys actually also sound like Jamie Fox at some instances, weird.

Johnta’s song is nice. Like that duet he did with Mary J. a while back. I also want to know when his album going to finally come out.

Right fit or no, Brandy should have put this on the album. It has a nice crossover club feel.

44.

@ 38, it depends on what you like. This song by Brandy is nothing like the songs you mentioned. People can’t stay boxed into one sound. i notice alot of R&B people are experimenting with the club/techno sound. Like Kanye’s Love Lockdown, Ne-Yo’s closer, and I think even Beyonce has a song on her new album with a club sound that is different from the straight R&B vibe she normally has. I wish Brandy had put the song on her album and released it as a single. One of the reasons why Rihanna is doing so well, is because she has stepped outside of the R&B category and made songs like shut up and drive and disturbia, which target a broader audience than just R&B listeners. R&B has become oversaturated with artists, and if you don’t switch it up a bit, you’re gonna fade out.

Ok i’m going straight down the line:

Brandy: Hot! I’m so glad she is back…somebody mentioned that this song is not going to be on the album…it should be

Jamie Foxx: No! not feling that at all…he can do better

R City: What in hell was that?

Johnta Austin: I’m just lovin’ his music so far… this cat is the truth

YOUZ-A-HATER!!

Friday, November 14, 2008 /

@#24..you need to quit it..cuz Tank is a good singer…and has had a handful of joints that I like..but on whole albums he always seems to falter..I have yet to hear a whole Tank album that was hot collectively….Jamie on the ther hand has had two solid efforts(and no that last album was not his debut..he had released an album previously in the mid 90’s…).I am a fan of both people but Jamie brings it for a full effort whereas Tank seems to leave it at home..so hopefully while he giving all these other artists heat..he will finally give us a full album of heat from him..we will see……

Brandy- loved what she and Tim came up with..I am trying to get a feel for what her overall album will be tho..cuz I digs the club banger Brandy…she does her thing.

Johnta - also a TALENT not 2 be overlooked or underestimated..the dude is madd talented so to #22 you must’ve fell and bumped yo head..that dude is responsible for mega-hits that came from MARY J. BLIGE and MARIAH CAREY…and he has the Grammys to prove it….so to answer yo question..dude got and been had a day job!!!.what are you doing with yourself besides HATING?……exactly…..NOTHING.

R. City- these dudes are talented too..I am waiting to see what their overall project will sound like..
