AWARENESS: WORLD AIDS DAY 2008

World AIDS Day is recognized each year on December 1 to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education regarding a leading killer of black men and women. Many of those who are infected with the disease are unaware of their HIV status and may unknowingly transmit the virus to others. This is why it’s critical for us all to get educated, get tested, get treated and get involved!

Since 1981, more than 25 million people have died of AIDS and young people account for half of all new HIV infections worldwide. Additionally, AIDS is the leading cause of death of blacks between the ages of 25–44.

Stopping AIDS is like learning your ABCs: abstain, be faithful and condom use.

If everyone were tested and treated regularly, according to a recent study by The Lancet, new HIV cases could be reduced by 95% within 10 years.

Do your part: keep talking about the issue and be sure to get tested.

The Fanciful World of Foreign Aid
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s view that India doesn’t need British aid has raised some hackles in Britain and led to some proud strutting in India. And that’s very understandable. Why should Britain continue giving aid to India?
Helpers in a hostile world: the risk of aid work grows
Aid workers may be an idealistic sort, but they're not naive. They know the risks of crossing oceans or pressing through to remote areas to build tent cities, run feeding stations, or treat the sick in what are by definition the most dangerous ...

Get in the Know!!! Get Tested!!!

  2. LUP

It should be mandatory for everyone to know their status!
This disease is a pandemic which is killing too many of our brothers and sisters especially in Africa.
Know your status everybody. It’s the right thing to do..

  3. V.I.P. JiGGa

    got tested two weeks ago!

  4. sigh

    Abstain;Be Faithful;and wear a Condom.

    Hmm. I like that.

I think AIDS is a gov’t conspiracy. And I also think they’ve found a cure for it as well. But the world revolves around the bottom line. Pharmaceuticals and drug companies are making too much money off of the treatment drugs for AIDS/HIV, and it doesn’t benefit them to stop the gravy train.

This world is going to hell in a handbasket.

  5. What i say goes

Get tested and use condoms people. Please! My doctor said she’s married and they still use condoms, unless they want to concieve. Lmao.. It aint no joke. Be safe and may God Bless. We got 30 more days until the new year..! Peace and love.

  6. HOTMOMMA001

This cause is very near and dear to my heart! My brother died of HIV on November 26, 1996. He contracted the virus from his wife that knew she had the disease prior to their marriage and didn’t tell him. Thank GOD she died before he did!

I believe that everyone needs to get tested. If you are having multiple partners, every 3 to 6 months and if you’re in a monogamous relationship…at least once a year!

Wrap it up! This disease has changed my life FOREVER!

    Peace!

  7. Ant$

so many people have HIV and don’t know it. and those people continue having unsafe oral/vaginal/whatever sex

  8. The Good Girl

I’m going to get tested in about an hour!!! And I love the ABC thing…thats great!

  9. Rayne

There should be a law to make everyone over a certain age get tested at least once a year. I don’t understand the thought process of people who don’t want to know their status…..its killing us!!

  10. ~*aShLeY*~

me and my husband have a 6 month old, and after she was born i told him i wanted to use a condom everytime. He tries to question me on why, like im secretly burnin or something, but its that i dont know what he do when im not around, he’s in the navy so he’s gone ALOT, and i dont wanna get pregnant…Thats a classic example of peer pressure because he tries to tell me that i can trust him, and he doesnt want to use one, but i love my life, and ima continue using them until i decide to have another child

  11. pms

Be responsible. Get tested, stay wrapped, and spread the word, not AIDS.

THIS TOPIC DESERVES MORE COMMENTS THAN A CELEBRITY. We shall see!

  12. YaChi

The black church also needs to step up. It was on the frontlines during the civil rights movement. Yet with homophobia and “the Bible says” they don’t talk about it. Talking about it does not mean you condone it, but being silent is killing us. We have got to talk about sex, homosexuality (yes, I know more straight people get it than gays, but in the black community it is still viewed as a gay disease when it’s not) and drugs.

  13. Queen of Sheba

I know that AIDS is killing our people in Africa. But it’s also killing our people here in the US. According to the CDC in 2006 all new HIV cases 87.3 percent were African Americans!! Why is that? It has a lot to do with MSM (men sleeping with men) they contract the disease because they are having unprotected sex with other men who have the disease. Then they go home, and have sex with their wives, and or girlfriends. My husband has a friend who actually said that he rather have sex with out a condom as long as the girl will take the “day after pill” he’s cool. WTF? He’s not even thinking about the diseases he can catch! Due to ignorance like that we have this issue now. I agree with the slogan Abstain, Be faithful, and use a condom. We have to stop this, and in order to do it we have to overcome our fears, and unite with one another…And stop being judgmental.

  14. bobbi

    @ ashely
****why are u married to him then?
*****that confuses the hell outta me that u think he doing hella sexing in the navy but
*****u let him knock u up 15 months ago…sooooo? not judging u but just curious

  15. What i say goes

@ 14. I feel what ashley is trying to say. I already told yall what my doctor said. Why question her? Spouses cheat all the time.. Why live in a fantasy world? Its real out here. People are not faithful and std’s are real.. Sorry.

  16. B

Women please take responsibility for your own body. Focus is always placed on the male partner infecting a female. Unless you are raped you are a contributing participant. It is OK to tell him to put a condom on or just abstain. Stop blaming men on the DL for the decisions you make. Make every man put on a condom unless you can follow him 24 hours a day. And please stop blaming gay people because you choose to have unprotected sex. Also, more focus should be placed on cure than awareness. People are aware of HIV infection just like they are aware that smoking can and will lead to cancer but they still smoke. (Find the Cure!)

  17. keyshia

i wonder how people wud behave like if ther wer no aids no sti’s.lol

  18. MANDY

If I didnt trust my husband enough to have sex with him without a condom then we just wouldnt have sex period. I mean whats the point of being married? You may as well start dating again. I just dont see the logic behind a married couple using condoms. Maybe its just me.

  19. Emma V's Great-Grandaughter

They need to find a cure for this disease because there are so many people dying from it.

  20. Tory

AND AM GLAD YALL POSTED THIS, EXCUSE ME J. DARKAR THIS NEEDS TO BE THE #1 THING ON THIS BULLETIN OR MAKE IT U GUYS BACKGROUND OR SOMETHING.

OH SOME REAL SHYT DON’T BE SITTIN HERE LOOKIN AT PICS AND MAKING COMMENTS GO GET TESTED! KNOW YOUR STATUS.
THIS IS NEXT TO VOTING FOR A PREDSIDENT. NOW WE DID FOR EACH OTHER, LETS DO IT AGAIN.

    ppeace!!

    GET TESTED!

  21. This Issue Really Affects Me, Aids is a serious killer in the black and other communities. This is Somthing So Preventable

I Believe that it is the lack of education on Hiv which is causing it togrow so much as people do not really UNDERSTAND the seriousness of this DISEASE

I PRAY ONE DAY A CURE IS FOUND TO HELP THEM KIDS AND UNFORTUNATE PEOPLE THAT GOT IT AND IT REALLY WONT THEIR FOUGHT

  22. What i say goes

Yeah. It sounds really crazy being married and using condoms, but it is what it is. Alot of people get std’s from the husbands or wives. Its sad. Im not married but when i do get married i dont wanna use condoms. But some feel its the only safe way. ??

  23. JUDAH

“AIDS” has been around for 30 years and in the spotlight of the mainstream media for 25 years. There have been more than enough drives, fundraisers, and telethons to provide the money to cure 15 strains of the AIDS virus. I wonder if anyone has ever calculated the amount of money that must have been raised over that course of time before they spout off on how “important” an issue this is. It’s obvious that the common people are lining the pockets of the elite. Furthermore, they give the people these bland, contrived phrases to regurgitate like; “Practice Safe sex”, “Wrap It Up”, etc. to make the people think that they’re saying or thinking something deep. Like “Sigh” touched on, the point is to line the pockets of the pharmaceutical and medical industries, as well as providing population control through the proliferation of prophylactics.

  24. RIP TO THE MARTYRS

AIDS IS A DAMN GOV’T CONSPIRACY ..A PLOY TO RID THE EARTH OF NIGGERS AND HOMOSEXUALS ….THEY WENT TO AFRICA AND TOLD THE PEOPLE THERE THAT THEY WERE GIVING OUT MALARIA VACCINES BUTT HEY WERE REALLY INJECTING THEM WITH THIS VIRUS…
THERE IS A MUTHA FUGGIN CURE TO THIS DISEASE BECAUSE IT IS MAN MADE….BUT THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE IN THE WORLD WITH AIDS THAT IF THEY WERE HANDING OUT CURES LEFT, RIGHT AND CENTER THE DRUG/ PHARMACUTICAL (sp) BUSINESS WOULD RUN OUTTA MONEY….THEY WANT PEOPLE TO HAVE AIDS SO THEY CAN FINANCE THEIR SHIT

  25. RIP TO THE MARTYRS

AND WHERE DID THIS DISEASE COME FROM?
ITS ONLY 30 YEARS OLD…….THAT SOUNDS FISHY DONT IT?
HAVE HUMANS REALLY ENHANCED SO MUCH THAT THEIR BODIES HAVE CREATED DISEASES?
    YAH RIGHT………………………………….

Always use condoms, even if you are involved in a LTR or commited. If you still suspect cheating and choose to seep having sex with the person, use two (no lambskins allowed). Also young adults need to know that anal sex only solves getting pregnant (alot of them are doing it, believe it or not) and get tested for HPV. If you don’t know about it, get educated and have young girls vaccinated for it!

  28. Lady on a Mission

I am 29 years old, with 2 children I have been married for 3 years and in a LTR for 11. I know my status.
I am proud to say that I have been getting tested every year for years now. Even though I am committed and I believe in & trust my husband, he had partners before me & I before him. I started getting tested after my daughter was born. She is now a preteen and once she becomes active (hopefully years from now) I will make it my business to get her tested too. I will make sure that she and my son (7) are as educated as I am. We as men/women need to be responsible for ourselves. We can not depend on others to do it for us. This body was given to us individually by the CREATOR! We need to value and treasure it. Life is a PRECIOUS gift.
    GET EDUCATED – GET TESTED!!!!

Have you heard of smallpox? Measles? They weren’t man made and had to come from somewhere.

    23

I don’t disagree with the exploitation and the disparity of medical services in this country but prevention saves lives and has nothing to do with intellect. That’s like saying airbags and seatbelts have absolutely no benefit to the consumer of an automobile. Most common folk die of disease due to ignorance of some sort and being informed of risk factors will prolong your natural life.

  30. 1Nubian Queen

***We have to take care of ourselves*** I agree with the poster about enough money being made to cure this disease, but that’s just it with all of these disease I’m sure some type of cure has come about for them all. HIV/AIDS, Cancer and such. As far as that HPV thing and getting your daughter vaccinated for it I WOULD NOT! It has not been on the market long enough, and our daughters are the test dummies for this new age drug. Young women and girls have died from this vaccination, while the rich still get rich and the world continues to turn. I like the ABC of AIDS…Makes a whole lot of sense, we just need to get and be more educated!

  31. JUDAH

    @KMNILES

Smallpox and measles have nothing to do with AIDS. Your comment is an example why the masses of the people are so easily misled and directed. It’s obvious that a “disease” like “AIDS” has a genesis somewhere. The white man has spent 25 years alleging that he wants to “cure” this disease. No industry or corporation would spend the amount of time or money to achieve a stated goal that has not come to fruition over this long a period of time. Totally nonsensical. Literally tens of billions at least have been put forth to “cure” (line the pockets of the elite, including Bill Clinton) AIDS. Somehow, the dark-skinned races have the highest rates of this disease worldwide. I wonder why? I guess caucasians are not sexually promiscuous and always engage in responsible sexual activity, lol.

  32. nay

Actually AIDS is much older than 30 years ago…it was “discovered” 30 years ago. Honestly, I saw a special about 10 years ago, where scientist got tissues that had been frozen dating back to the early 50′s of patients who died from a mysterious disease. When they tested the tissues, they were all HIV+. The thing was that in those time not as much sleeping around and needle sharing, etc was done so a lot of people died and the death certificate simply says “unknown”, pnemonia or cancer. In the late 70′s and early 80′s when a lot of casual sex was occurring and then with it getting into the gay mainstream…it spread so fast that the cases of these unknown cancers ( remember is was first called “gay cancer”), shot through the roof . This made the medical folks and scientist actually bother to find out what it was and thus HIV was discovered. and really is doesn’t matter where it came from or how long it’s been here…IT”S HERE NOW!!! Who in the world would even think of going raw without KNOWING for sure their status and that of their partner… NOT ME, Neva!!!!! and something people don’t talk about is the people who are sick enough to spread it on purpose. They are out here folks…nut jobs who are mad they have it and want others to be sick too. Any man who even attempts to go raw with me is automatically HIV+ in my mind!!!

  33. Phillyfashionista

KNOW YOUR STATUS PPL!!! Not knowing is NOT a good look!!

  34. jetson

It’s about that time of the year when organizations such as the CDC &
WHO begin their annual fundraiser for “HIV”/AIDS, slickly crafted as
    “World AIDS Day” (December 1st).

Many of us have been programmed to believe much of what mainstream
media has imposed upon us in regards to the “HIV”=AIDS HYPOTHESIS.
However, there is an overwhelming amount of scientists, physicians,
lawyers, writers, social workers and even “HIV Positives” who have and
    continue to question the paradigm.

It’s understandable that many won’t be receptive to the fact that such
a HYPOTHESIS is FLAWED, however, the proof is in the pudding and it’s
quite obvious to see, that is only if you take the time to do a bit of
    research.

Research, something that appears much of the world refrains from
doing, probably because we’re used to having everything handed to us
on a silver platter. Too many of us treat our lives like plastic t.v.
dinner’s packaged with instructions on how-to.

So here’s an opportunity for you to step outside of a paradigm that
has been force fed to the world for over 25 years plus. Here’s an
opportunity for you to question much of the data that lacks truth.
Here is an opportunity for you to open your eyes through an explosive
documentary. Robin Scovill, director and husband of Christine Maggiore
(author of What If Everything You Knew About AIDS Was Wrong?),
developed this film after his then not-wife was diagnosed “HIV
Positive” in 1992. After her “diagnosis” Christine became an activist
for mainstream AIDS orthodoxy, that was until she was alarmed to find
a great deal of inconsistencies and flaws with the hypothesis and
left. Christine is one of many who have been awakened and freed from
an industry filled with dogma and propaganda. She currently resides in
LA, with her healthy son (who tests negative…as if that that
matters, oh wait it does) and her healthy husband (who also tests
negative, as if that matters, but wait that should too).

But don’t take my word for it, take some time out of your busy
schedule and watch this documentary and decide for yourself. Hopefully
it sparks many questions and interests for you.

I know a boy that contracted HIV at the age of 17.This disease does not discriminate!! If you have any kind of sex at all you are at risk!! Use condoms and know your partner.Casual sex is so not cool.

  36. kmniles

    Judah

Wow. So AIDS is a weapon for mass genocide? That’s funny, cause when it first came about it was God’s way of punishing people for being gay. So somehow in the past 30 years, HIV has changed it’s agenda? Please. Billions of dollars have been spent towards cancer research and influenza so I don’t see your side of the argument when it affects everyone.

As for most people infected being dark skinned worldwide, I guess so when the majority of the cases are in/on some of the most impoverished continents/nations in the world. 1+2=3. It’s that simple. As for the high number of cases in the states, I guess you’d have to ask all the brothers enslaved by the white man and forced to sex up their fellow inmates.

  37. sigh

    @ 34

I know this may sound ignorant, but I actually thought that the true agenda of “AIDS” was to wipe out the “undesirables”, whether they be gay/black(insert any other minority). And it seems to me that they are somewhat succeeding.

  38. Ladyssolady

#10, I feel where you are coming from. I am from a military area, and have heard many stories about army wives contracting anything you can imagine from their partners while they’ve been gone or deployed. It’s not a game! Sure you want to trust your husband, but it’s not a perfect world. I remember a few years back, the military required tests every 6 months, but I don’t know if that still stands. I think a lot of the women thought that since the men were getting tested, then everything was fine, but not so. I personally abstain. I don’t have time for the drama.

  39. SoulPhlower

Be responsible. Protect your self. Get tested. Use a condom. Life is precious.

  40. bobbi

    @ what i say goes
***i inderstand what u saying..but if u had unprotected sex one year ago and u find
****out that ur husband got it today, chances are u have it already….so if u dont
*****trust him like that u shouldn’t be doing it unprotected at all.

I think drug abuse is known to lead to HIV infections. It has become common knowledge that the virus is transmitted through bodily fluids. When drug users share needles or other injection equipment with someone infected with HIV, the virus can be transmitted. We must ensure that we are aware in every aspects of the action which are related to HIV transmission in any way.
