Actually to the comment on the movie tanking, it was actually a REALLY good movie. Some may call it “Dream dudes” being it was mainly about the men but truth be told, Beyonce did her thing. I was presently surprised. She cussed up a storm and actually showed personality and vulnerability. It was a nice gesture. And Jeff Wright played that Muddy Waters part to the “T”. Mos Def also did a great job considering he came in at the last end. I also didn’t know Q-tip was in the movie towards the end. Also, Gabrielle also did her thing as always. She’s such a good actress. But they are defiantly saying Beyonce may have done just enough to earn her Oscar. Even though she came in at the end of the movie, her presence set the movie off. It was like the frosting on the cake per reviews and I actually feel the same way. She rocked that Etta James role. Unless you’ve seen it, you really shouldn’t speculate or go by what others are saying. However, if you see it and still feel it sucked then that’s your opinion but shouldn’t knock it until you try it!

And yes, Lil Walter def deserves to be recognized and like I mentioned before so does Jeff Wright. They all gave brilliant performances and that’s the truth! Lil Walter was crazy thought, always wanting to bust a cap in somebody a**. When he walked up to that guy in the movie and asked who was “Lil Walter” and the guy said I am and he just popped him, I was in shock with my hand over my mouth like that boy aint playing with his name. LMAO- he was really good and had me cracking up over some of the stuff he was saying/doing!

#27. I didn’t say the movie tanked. I said I heard SHE wasn’t good in the movie. My co-worker was around & very familiar with this era & the story behind it.

She said that the men (besides Mos Def & Cedric) were AMAZING. But the story wasn’t well told & the acting from the others was sub-par. I might…MIGHT…see it. Based on her review, I highly doubt it.

@#30, I didn’t mean to write tanked, I said that in another post. My fault! I was just commenting on the fact how people said she didn’t do well when that was her best performance to date. I also saw the reviews where some people were kind of mad because they said some of the things in the movie DIDNT really happen. Like the so called affair with Brody and Etta/Beyonce and a couple other things i cant really remember. But I thought it was very good. Cedric did ok, funny as usual but he doesn’t always have to narrate in movies. Mos Def was like a black Elvis in the movie though. He was okay, but no where near as good as Lil Walter and Muddy and Gabby for that matter but it’s probably because Mos didn’t come in until the movie was about 30-45 min over. Overall, in my opinion, it was a good movie. LOTS of history and good music as well! Hope you decide to go see it.

the movie is FAR from a flop. it averaged more per screen than all of the other movies except four christmases. the movie took only 12mil to make and they make 3.5 back it’s opening weekend in 686 theaters. as you can tell, all the movies in the top 10 were showing in 2000+ theaters. the movie will make more than the 12mil it cost to produce

also, dreamgirls opened in limited release too (only 800 theaters), it didn’t mean there wasn’t any demand for it. dreamgirls made about 6mil that weekend and ended up grossing 100+ mil worldwide and the hype for dreamgirls was also way bigger. cadillac records may not make that much (but w/a budget of 12mil, they are clearly not expecting it to) and they’llmake their profit back.

hate all you want, but as long as the movie makes back the 12mil, it’s considered a success, anything more than the 12mil is just an added bonus.

Yes Mr. Obama has a lot of issues to address when he takes office. However he does not have an “S” on his chest. How about we petition some parents to be more involved in their children’s education. Or petition our people to stop buying AF one’s and Jordan’s and invest in their future. Petition our people to stop being hood rich by paying more for their cars (BMW, Tahoe, etc) than they do their subsidized apartment. I agree that a stand needs to be taken on many of the nation’s prominent issues but some of it can start in our own backyards (i.e. violence, drugs). As an active duty member currently supporting the war I understand the need for better health benefits for our disabled/wounded servicemen. However, petitioning for better treatment/benefits should have been pushed harder when the war kicked off in March 2003. Don’t wait until a new president comes along to try and bombard him with issues this country has been facing since Jan 2001.

There is no Oscar buzz. For the few critics who loved her, ten more literally said she can’t act. So, you do the math. I saw the movie as well and to be honest Beyonce didn’t do too bad. I must say her skills r improving. I think if you could get past the fact that she is Beyonce and the fact that her acting record isn’t exactly A material…not a bad job! first the only reason the movie had such bad numbers is because it hasnt really been released yet…it only got released in like 250 theaters across the country or some shit like that…i dont know why but thats what that was about…it will do better after all the word of mouth circulates a little better….trust me YOU NEED TO SEE IT!
