The January 2009 issue of Essence, which hits newsstands December 12, features President-elect Barack Obama and First Lady-elect Michelle Obama on dual covers in a 56-page tribute featuring the images, thoughts, dreams and perspectives of the campaign and historic victory from today’s foremost writers and photographers.
An extensive timeline which follows Barack from a young child to the present is included, and the first couple’s daughters, Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, are also profiled, as they will be the youngest residents of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in nearly 40 years.

I call my first lady Michelle-O because she is too sharp. God has blessed us to have not just a black president (that’s right because he was black before he won), but he has blessed us to see a different narrative about black people. While there are some who have already tried to tarnish our joy, just remember, God is doing something new through this couple of God. We ought to thank Him. We have pride, we have family values, and yes we have class.
Now that is what I call a collector’s item. I’ve never seen a finer Essence cover and I’m reading the December issue right now.

I feel blessed that I was able to be apart of history. I am so proud of Barack and Michelle Obama. I am sure that Barack will be one of if not the greatest president in history.

Michelle looks radiant..absolutely gorgeous on the cover. I love me some uncle obama but why does he always have to have his arms folded on his cover shots?? I recommend squinting and smiling with his eyes while his hands are framing his face..give me more Barack!! But nonetheless..that is a very beautiful couple. Congrats to the Obamas!

I agree they are both dark both of them are nearly the same color michelle is like one shade darker than barack. Don’t worry people they are still black even though they are not dark skinned they is no need to try to enhance or make them more black come on essence!
