Some of you may remember the artist spotlight we did on J*DaVeY earlier this year. If not, then you should definitely check out their music.
The very eclectic group who is described as a cross between Prince and the B-52, signed a major album deal this year and they are currently working on their full-length major label debut for ’09.
In related news, J*DaVeY will perform at the new Dakota Music Lounge in Santa Monica (previously the Temple Bar) on New Year’s Eve.
ESTELLE PREPS NEW ALBUM
It seems as though after the success of her debut LP in the States, Estelle is eager to get started on her sophomore release. Although she’s had projects in the UK, Shine and her second single, “American Boy,” featuring Kanye West has garnered her huge success over in the U.S.
When asked about the new project, which is tentatively set to release sometime in the second quarter of 2009, Estelle said that she was looking to collaborate with fellow Brit Adele, and also had this to say:
“I’m really excited to start working on my next album. I’m going to go totally left field and surprise a lot of people… I’m going to hit it out the ball park with this one. I’m thinking a mix of Coldplay and Marvin Gaye.”
Interesting! Estelle, who is also a recent Grammy nominee, definitely seems pretty confident with this new album. I’m excited to hear what she comes up with.
THE DREAM GETS RELEASE DATE
We reported earlier that The Dream was pushing his album back from December 16th to February of 2009, but our good friends at Rap-Up.com, have given us the official release date of February 17th.
The new album, entitled Love vs. Money, was originally let by the Lil’ Jon-assisted single, “Let Me See the Booty,” but it seems as though The Dream is releasing a new single, “Rockin’ That Shit,” which was just recently released to iTunes this week.
J. HOLIDAY ALBUM NEWS
J. Holiday, who was made hugely popular by his hit, “Bed,” is currently prepping his new album, Round 2, the follow-up to his certified gold debut album Back of My ‘Lac, on February 24 via Music Line Group/Capitol Records.
We recently featured his new single, “It’s Yours” in our Hot or Not section, and for the most part, everyone was feeling the new track.
The new album will feature productions from Jasper Cameron (Lloyd’s “You” and Ciara’s “Promise”) and The Co-Stars (Teairra Mari’s “Make Her Feel Good”). The video for “It’s Yours” will be shot by director Jonathan Mannion, who also shot both videos for the two singles from Holiday’s first album.
J. Holiday’s Back of My ‘Lac is nominated for Best Contemporary R&B Album at the 51st annual Grammy Awards, so good luck to him.

I hate when ppl call artist underated just becuz they are not all over the media. J Holiday only had 2 singles and they were not all of that. And if you ask me he is quite popular considerin he has done nothing major in the industry. Artist like rihanna who are larger than life right now had to put in work to get where they are at.

What is wrong with u people? J. Holiday suck and so does that ‘bed’ song. How can any decent girl like a song with lyrics like ” I am trying to put you to bed…….” A brotha can’t come anymore straightforward than that. Shouldn’t he have been a little more charismatic and less crude. That is the problem with love songs nowadays, they have become so raw and raunchy. I am convinced that romance is offically dead.

I do love Estelle and her album was fab but sadly I think she will end up another Khia aka a one hit wonder living off the success of that one song (which featured KANYE of course!). Not hatin cuz I liked her album a lot but what sales did it do? It is a shame folks can recognise some copycat old school tribute singer like Duffy (OVERRATED) from the UK but then overlook Estelle’s ALBUM Shine.

#14 Rihanna never flopped. Her first album went gold off of #2 hit single. Second album went platinum with 3 top ten singles (one of which went #1). So get it right. Other than that, I agree.

OMG OMG OMG J*DaVeY is my fave group!!! They are incredible!!!! I have their recently debuted album and I can’t wait for the next one. All their stuff is not and my only wish is they complete “Turn The Lights Out” and make it into a full song! Oh that and “Venus 2 Mars” because both songs deserve a full track!
