Eartha Kitt, a sultry singer, dancer and actress who rose from South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality, has died. She was 81.
Kitt, died in New York, where she was being treated for colon cancer, her publicist said. Her daughter, Kitt Shapiro, was by her side.
She was performing almost until the end, taping a PBS special six weeks ago in Chicago, Illinois. The show is set to air in February.

I am shocked and sad to hear that such a legend has passed. Eartha Kit paved the way for so many African-Americans and was a staunch believer in speaking her mind. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Loved her RIP, i had just youtube her santa baby performance yestuday. She was a true legend and no one not Marylyn Monroe, Madonna, or Mariah Carey who remade that song can sing or perform that song better than she did. She was a true legend/performer.

I just discovered her as an artist like a month ago, I love her! She was a brilliant performer, I saw ‘I want to be evil’ and ‘Cest si bon’, my two favourite; ENTERTAINER, her voice was so strong, sexy, effortlessly, great interpretation, a true diva, a legend in her own right, I really like that woman.
She fought hard, still performing that old being sick, and passed away CHRISTMAS DAY, this is a blessing for her, the day Jesus was born, I hope God accept & forgive her, praying for her & family, RIP!
