POLITICS: OBAMA SAYS IT’LL GET WORSE BEFORE BETTER / WEEKLY ADDRESS / CONGRESS GETS A RAISE

President-elect Barack Obama (pictured at the airport on Saturday catching a flight to Hawaii for winter break) warned on Friday that economic recovery won’t be as fast as he completed his Cabinet, after naming the secretaries of transportation, labor, trade and small business policy.

It will take longer than any of us would like — years, not months. It will get worse before it gets better. But it will get better if we are willing to act boldly and swiftly,” Obama said — and he promised to do just that.

Obama declined to put a price tag on an economic stimulus plan he will propose, but signaled that it could be huge because of his priorities: creating jobs, getting the economy back on track and fixing financial markets among them. “That is going to cost a significant amount of money on the front end,” he said.

WEEKLY ADDRESS

On Saturday, December 20, 2008, in his weekly address, President-elect Obama introduced the team of men and women who will head up the nation’s major scientific departments.

CONGRESS GETS A RAISE

Lawmakers could not be persuaded to freeze their pay amid a crumbling economy, and millions of jobs lost by their constituents. Instead, they will get a $4,700 pay increase, an additional $2.5 million that taxpayers will spend on congressional salaries.

“As lawmakers make a big show of forcing auto executives to accept just $1 a year in salary, they are quietly raiding the vault for their own personal gain,” said Daniel O’Connell, chairman of The Senior Citizens League (TSCL), a non-partisan group. “This money would be much better spent helping the millions of seniors who are living below the poverty line and struggling to keep their heat on this winter.”

However, at 2.8 percent, the automatic raise that lawmakers receive is only half as large as the 2009 cost of living adjustment of Social Security recipients.

Still, Steve Ellis, vice president of the budget watchdog Taxpayers for Common Sense, said Congress should have taken the rare step of freezing its pay, as lawmakers did in 2000.

Look at the way the economy is and how most people aren’t counting on a holiday bonus or a pay raise — they’re just happy to have gainful employment,” said Ellis. “But you have the lawmakers who are set up and ready to get their next installment of a pay raise and go happily along their way.”

Why would you mention your sexual orientation? Are you trying to make some type of point?

Obama I hope you are the man to lead us out of this hell bush put us in. But 1 thing that everyone needs to look at is tv and the media. I can’t beleive we have shows on during this time like MTV cribs and sweet 16 millionare teenagers etc with no worries influencing the next group of young men and woman going into there 20′s who are going to get a depression state of mind soon as the real world says hello . . Pefect exampe is the pastry simmons sisters no knock to them but if there father was not who he is that idea would have got torched the second they displayed it. We have this on tv and right on the next channel good hard working men and woman losing there lives and shirts off the back because of greed.

  5. ON THE REAL, I NEVER BELIEVED ANYTHING OBAMA SAID AND I STILL DONT. BUT I WILL STILL SUPPORT HIM BECAUSE HE IS OUR LEADER, PROUD OF IT, AND MAYBE HE CAN EVEN CHANGE MY MIND. THEY BEEN KNEW ABOUT THE WHOLE BLEGOJOVICH SCHEME WHILE HE WAS RUNNING, BUT WANTED TO KEEP IT HUSH SO THAT IT WOULDNT AFFECT OBAMA’S NUMBERS. THATS NOT RIGHT. HE IS GONNA NEED ALOT OF PRAYER AND DIRECTION FROM THE LORD. ITS SOMETHING ALMOST SCARY ABOUT HIM TO ME, I CANT QUITE PUT MY FINGER ON IT. I JUST HOPE THAT HE WONT BE CROOKED IN THE WHITE HOUSE LIKE THOSE FELLOW PEERS OF HIS.

For those who are so against Barack and his supporters, you’re just as bad as those you perceive to see him as a savior, though I have yet to see that phrase uttered by anyone on this board but his naysayers. You’re judging what you believe he will or will not do just as his supporters are. The fact that so many of you have to resort to insults about others sexuality, gender, race and bring religion into a discussion where there’s no need, shows that any reasonable discussion on the issue would be impossible. That exact attitude of demeaning those who have opinions different than your own is one of the main reasons that the conservatives lost this election. Whether or not Barack and his team can produce results is something to be seen. Everything that we say at this point in time is merely speculation. When asked during the townhall format presidential debate what his priorities were in terms of his campaign promises and whether or not he thought he could follow through on them immediately if he were to enter the White House, Barack said the economy would come first and everything else would be dependent on that. McCain stated that he didn’t think there was any reason for him to delay any of his campaign promises, which looking back we would know would be impossible for him to follow through on. Politicians make promises, they backtrack and yes, they lie. It’s a fact, get over it. Conservatives, you lost the election. It’s a fact, get over it.

haha i thought that was a pic of obama with eddie murphy

  9. HOTMOMMA001

We haven’t been in such dire straits since Reagan! Man, this entire economy crisis is just going to get worse before it gets better. And, Obama will not be able to correct the mismanagement of Dubyah in a short 4 year term. Heck, I don’t think he could recover the economy if he had Bill Clinton, Al Gore or any other prior Democratic candidate to date.

This fix will take some time and longer than a lot of these BIG corporations have! We’ll have to be the boat that partially sinks before the rescue crew comes in to save us all! We’ll just have to have FAITH because right now, that’s all we got!

  10. Toons

I think this whole “recession/depression” was staged. Our government has done it before, dont put it past the illuminati, excuse me…the Republicans to do it again. They’re trying to push in the NWO. Sorry to burst everyone’s bubble but Barack is just a puppet. And this economic crises is just another step in their master plan. Watch.

  11. Luvbug

Why is everyone so surprised the way the economy is going? Bible tells u the richest nation on earth shall crumble. I knew it was the end when Bush was nominated a second term and most of the whities that put him there r feeling the consequences now, lol. It’s sad but true, I’m glad the whities r feeling the effect way more than other races, now they know how it feel to be without. How it feels to be judged by what u have or don’t have, where u live or the color of ur skin. They are the ones with all the creditcards any dayum way and those of us of color that have cards don’t get much on them. My friend was telling me how when the white folks come into Home Depot they get approved anywhere from $3000 to $25,000, blacks/hispanics lucky if they get approved for $500.

“It will get worse before it gets better”

That’s not encouraging but it is what it is. I am happy that Obama will be our next president but it would be an understatement to say the man has a lot of work to do.

Most of it would be picking up Bush’s slack. Everyone keeps talking about a smooth transition. How can that be when Bush HAS NOT been for the people for the past eight years. Now it is up to Obama to really engage in the American people and give us a since of hope.

Bush should have closed Guatanamo Bay.

Bush should have stopped this frivolous war.

Bush should have been for ALL people and not just the rich.

Bush should not have been President PERIOD!

  14. myopia

    @ OH PLEASE!

You need to calm down. Who said Obama was a savior? We are all aware the man can’t walk on water Thank You!

Obama won this election in a landslide because the people got up off their a$$$$ and went to the poles because they really did want a change in leadership. I’m sorry to burst your bubble but McLame McCain is just another Bush clone. The real funny thing about it is he tried to distance himself from Bush on the campaign trail. WHY? Because Bush is so damn unpopular with the lowest job approval rating of any other president. And look. He still didn’t get nominated.

Anyone with even a slight drop of intelligence knows that Obama will not have some quick fix strategy. He is well aware it takes time and patience to get this country back to where it needs to be and with the support of the American people it will happen.

And on that note. I would like to wish you and all the other bitter people (Judah you too) here a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

  15. myopia

    @ Soul Cookbook

Why should I not look to Obama for anything? This is why I voted for him! If he does not live up to his words than I will hold him accountable. That is when I vote against him.

So you can save all that he’s just another politician crap. And how very nice of you to prioritize someone else’s life and tell other’s what they SHOULD do.

You probably eat at McDonald’s living in designer clothes with 3 pennies in your bank account.

  16. J.DASH

“things will get worse before they get better”
ohh boy. NY gov. david patterson said the same exact thing, and now we are seeing huge budget cuts/tuition increases for the state universities…

please obama, we know the economy is hard, but PLEASE dont make huge cuts for funding education. as much as i like and respect obama, we have to make sure we stay on his case about education…its seriously deteriorating, its a crying shame

  17. MY2Cents

@76 You said you will hold Barrack accountable if he doesn’t live up to his promises. What sense does that make? You are the one who is held accountable not him. You made the decision to help him get the presidency not the other way around. That’s just like if a child gets into some kind of trouble. Even though the child made the decision to do whatever he did, the parents are still held accountable for the child’s actions. It’s funny how some on here use God and Barrack in the same sentence. Where clearly in “God’s Word” the Bible at Daniel 2:44 tells us what is the outcome for the governments of this world will be. SMH. It’s quite amusing for politicians to use God as a platform.

  18. myopia

    @#78

If you would have read the entire comment you would see it makes perfect sense.

Barack Obama said he would turn around the economy. He would push for better education. He would not mandate healthcare for everyone like Hillary would have. I believe he would for children only.

If Obama does not do any of these things then I will hold him accountable. HOW? By my vote going to the other candidate on election day in 2012. Simple enough?

I decided to make him president because he FIRST made me promises. So this is why he would be held accountable and not me.

Who are you talking to about God and Barack? You’re confusing me with your comment. You start off by addressing something that I said and then you’re off talking about other people’s comments about God and quoting scripture yourself.

Now look. You can’t have this both ways.

  19. MY2Cents

First off like you said the first half was address to you, the second was in general to the comments I keep hearing about Barrack and God. Clearly in my post I said how some others make those comments, nowhere did I say that you did . Second I cited a scripture not quote one there’s a difference. Third I did read the entire comment and still stand by what I say. You gave Obama the power not himself. Okay let’s just say he is in a war that uses nuclear warfare on a third world country and kills hundreds of millions of people ( in no way am I saying that he would do such a terrible thing, just trying to make a point). These hundreds of millions are innocent men, women, and children. You’re telling me, that you won’t feel no responsibilty for that? I mean if it wasn’t for you and those who voted for him that would never have happened. What if the economy gets even worse even after he leaves the oval office? You’re telling me that you won’t feel at least a little bit responsible for it?

Don’t you see a pattern with politicians? They always tell you what you want to here make promise that are said by any other person would sound outlandish, but when said by them, it seems possible. Then once they have the power, all of sudden they have a sudden case of amensia or have some excuse as to why they can’t hold up to all their promises. Look I’m not here to argue. But I stand about what I said.

  21. IT MAKES ME WANNA HOLLER

thats correct you need to be straight up w/ the folks now. i predict by march the bottom is going to fall out of this mess. the stimulus pkg , that is being purposed scares the s### out of me. because like this bailout money only the few at the top rung of the ladder will see the benefits. for instance take the unions and the infrastructure jobs that a stimulus pkg would create. as the president-elect would say ‘LOOK’ . i know from exp that the people and these labor unions don’t hire african americans. and being close to the home state of illinois i know for a fact that local union 838 in rock is,ill these unions don’t hire [black] people, civil construction company out of moline ill don’t either. look and you will see that they don’t hire blacks either.they get sub-contractors to hire the lateeno’s the illegals for all of the work to be done on bridges, roads and fed projects hiding behind the code word skill labor. this will not trickle down to poor folks i guarntee it. only the well off on the good ol boy network will reap these benefits of this massive stimulus pkg. or as i should put it BUSSINESS AS USUAL. i can see the SHARKS and the snakes now thier mouth is running water to get some of the free unacconted for GOV’T money. like that bailout money that people won’t find out where its really going . and that out the front door and right back throgh the back.’it just makes me want to holler’. cause baby HSITORY IS A DAMN GOOD TEACHER. one more thing why is it that they got african immigrants up in minnepolis minn that are engineers and that have MASTERS DEGREES driving cabs for a living up their in the city? WHY; cause the “folks” WON’T HIRE THEM . you can’t make this shit up. it just makes me wanna holler.

  22. jJUDAH

    @Myopia

All candidates distanced themselves from George Bush because he was the Judas Goat, and an excellent one at that. He did not give a damn how he was perceived, which made him the perfect administrative assistant for the international bankers. That is all any “president” is, so if you think that Obama will do anything different from what Bush would do if he were to retain the position, or McCain would have done if he would’ve gotten (s)elected, I have a bridge to sell you. Any president that deviates from the overall plan will get assassinated. By the way; I’m not a political scientist, but I think McCain was “nominated”, he just wasn’t (s)elected.

Anyone who has any intelligence knows that not only will Obama not have a “quick fix strategy”, he will not have any strategy. This is why he was brought into the position of president of this corporation known as America. The elite want all hands on deck when America hits it’s roughest time since it’s inception, so a black president is necessary to get the “minorities” to help the white man retain his control over the earth. If another “Bush clone” were allowed in office, it would polarize America like never before and blacks would actually have to turn to each other as the tumult starts. The white man literally cannot afford that. Now as we see it three dimensionally, black people have never been more “patriotic” than they are now. Blacks and hispanics are the lynchpin of this society and have always been the biggest consumers. The real “hope” that Obama represents is for the white community, that they will be able to maintain the facade of America as a place of liberty and equality until all hell finally breaks loose.

I don’t celebrate “Christmas” because it is worship of the sun, but thanks for the good wishes anyway, lol.

    Yeah, that was me.

  26. Obama=Change?

Oh okay, I hate imposters. LOL!!

  27. ????

@ Judah I thought I was the only one around here who knew the truth about X-Mas.
I’m glad to know that know some other than me isn’t blinded by it paganism.

  28. JUDAH

    @?????

Alot of it is just common sense, but most people don’t have that, which makes them inclined to be followers. There’s no way that Christ was born on December 25th but facts don’t matter to 99.9% of people so they’ll justify it by saying, “Well, it’s a season for giving and we celebrate in the spirit of Christ……yada, yada, yada”, knowing that they could care less about Christ.

  29. Toons

@ JJUDAH, you speak the truth man. Not too many people here understand what you are talking about because everyone is blinded and hypnotized by this great and wonderful country they term America, and it’s not really their fault but the elite who control everything in the world down to what you think. I would however stop the name calling, its a bit childish and people close up and become aggressive instead of listening to some of the truthfull things u have to say.

Kennedy was killed because he signed Executive Order No. 11110 which would’ve basically put the federal reserve bank out of business by allowing the government to repay it’s debt without having to go to the Federal Reserve and gain interest when creating new money. He was an example of what would happen if a president ever tried to go against the banks by taking away the Federal Reserve’s power from creating money with interest intern lessening the country’s debt. Note how no other president has ever used that executive order even though it is still valid and has never been repealed. Makes you think.

We need to wake up to the truth of this country and stop buying all the nonsense they feed us through the media, tv ,movies, newspapers…etc. It would make a lot of you sick to your stomach if you knew the evil masonic foundations upon which this country was built and their goal of having a one world government in which they have complete and total control over everyone and everything. “Liberty and Justice for All” is ALL a facade. We are all modern day slaves to the elite in the form of being dependant on our government and the banks with the debt we all have.

Like I said before, this country is trying to move us towards the ‘New World Order’ that is inscribed in Latin on our great and mighty dollar bill under the demonic pyramid. Wake up people!

  30. Toons

BTW the US has already started bombing Pakistan. You just wont hear of it on regular “news” outlets like CNN or MSNBC and of course FOX. Ask yourself why that’s not being televised. Isn’t that news?

Barack Obama was nominated the Democrat Candidate for the presidency and was eventually nominated as the next president of the United States.

  34. JUDAH

    @Toons

I don’t call people names. I respond to how they come at me. As for the “One World Government”, there already is a one world government and has been since the League of Nations. I’m not a conspiracy theorist brotha/sis, I’m a realist based on research and the things that the Lord shows me in the spirit. The masses of the people will not “wake up”, as you say you want them to, because they have that spiritual mark of the beast on them. The only way to be “saved” from what is to come is to have the proper understanding of the Most High’s Word. That is the strait gate. Like you said, the governements of the world are themselves governed by different occultic organizations so there’s not a damn thing that people can do against it carnally. Look at people like “Myopia”, lol. Do they really deserve to be saved form what’s to come? The Lord is making a distinction between his chosen and those to be cast to the wayside. Many of these people hate the Most High and His Word, which is the spiritual mark of the beast. When they roll out that RFID chip, that is the physical mark spoken of in Revelation 13:16. In the Greek; the word for “mark” used in Rev 13:16 is “karagma”, if I remember correctly, which translates into an “imprint underneath the skin, or an incision”.

  35. myopia

    @#80

I know you can’t stand him but could you at least spell the man’s name right.

Whether it was a quote or scripture, it doesn’t matter. The point is that you said people here are always putting God in with Barack and then you had the nerve to Bible thump all in the same sentence.

Judging from your comments and your responses to my comments leads me to believe that your views are moronic.

If there was warfare and millions of people died. How can I be held responsible for that? Just because I did my civic duty and voted? So all the people who voted for Bush should be held accountable for the hundreds of people who have died in this war we’re in now?

There were people who fought and died for my right to vote and I exercise that right every chance I get. A voter should never be held accountable for the actions of a politician who makes promises and doesn’t live up to his word. We’re suppose to hold them accountable. That’s what they’re their for……For the service of the people. Damn right I hold him responsible.

You say politicans would tell you what they want to hear and once they have the power they don’t deliver. Well, Obama doesn’t have the power because he hasn’t even officially taken office yet. See what the man does first before you past judgment and lump him in with all the other politicians.

So the answer to your hypothetical scenarios are all NO! NO, I will not be held responsible.

  36. myopia

    @#80

When I made that comment about the people voting for Bush, I’m talking BEFORE Septmeber 11, 2001. When they had no idea there was going to be a war and their vote already counted.

Are you still going to say they should be responsible for those casualities becuase they voted for him?

  37. myopia

I apologize for the double posting (#91 & #98) I was having a problem with my cookies and thought my original post was somehow deleted since it says awaiting moderation.

  38. My2cents

@Myopia Once again you again your not understanding a word that I said. First off why call my views moronic, nowhere did I call your views moronic or irrevelant. Second I don’t hate the man at all, I’m just not jumping up down about a new President that happens to be black. I thought I spell his name wrong but wasn’t sure so I left it and hope you wouldn’t notice. LOL!!!!

In my previous post I said:

“It’s funny how some on here use God and Barrack in the same sentence. Where clearly in “God’s Word” the Bible at Daniel 2:44 tells us what is the outcome for the governments of this world will be. SMH.”
Maybe I need to explain what I meant by that. What I was trying to say is that it’s funny how people will say how God is backing Barack and using him to lead us to a better future where In the Bible God’s Word clearly shows differently. Now do you see what I’m saying? If not then I give up. LOL!!! Moving on.

Look I’m not tell you not to vote. By all means do so. All I’m saying you shouldn’t complain about any of the screw ups your candidate makes when you’re the one who gave him the power. I’m not saying your all to blame. But you hold some responsibility.

  39. dukesman2000

To all those people who are saying Obama is backtracking on his promises. Obama has not backtracked on any of his promises. He stated durig his campaign that he will be truthful with the American people. He wasn’t going to paint a picture of properity when the economy is going to hell with gasoline drawers on. Wasn’t it McCain’s chief economic strategist who said that we a bunch of whiners and that the economy is not as bad as experts say it is? Only to find out that we have been in a recession for more than a year. If that’s wasn’t an attempt to pull the wool over our eyes, I do not know what is. It was Obama and his team who were constantly telling us to brace for shock, because this crisis will get worse before it gets better.

And it is also obvious that you guys i.e. SIGH and Judas, have never held a leadership post in your lives. There are many aspects to leadership and one of them is flexibility – being open to change and new information. Adapts behavior and work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles. Adjusts rapidly to new situations warranting attention and resolution. It is the frigidness of the Bush Administratio and the inability to change, that has caused the death of 4000 plus lives lost in Iraq; that has caused us to be in this dire economic state.

  40. steupz

    Why the patience for change?
Obama seemed to have the answers to everyone’s problems save for too much powder on ghetto girls’ chests.

Why would it take years? That’s what I’d like to know?

  41. JUDAH

    @Dukesman

Lol, so you mean to tell me that Obama is “adapting” his plans and promises and not backtracking? To say that would mean that, as you noted, the conditions would have starkly changed to make him realize that his original program was not feasible. What has changed since he and McCain originally debated on the issue of the economic collapse that would cause him to almost totally scrap what he initially put forth? You constantly bring up McCain, as if he is some sort of contrast to Obama, smh. He was the foil to the prince of peace; nothing more, nothing less. The only way that one can claim that Bush is to blame for your alleged 4,000 deaths (because the deaths of the Afghanis and Iraqis do not count I guess), which is why I called him the Judas Goat before, you must then prove that the U.S. had no reason to invade Afghanistan. Thusly, your only pretext for this would be that the event known as 9/11 was a hoax. I’m sure that you don’t believe that. If I’m wrong, and you do believe that it was a hoax, please correct me. It should be readily apparent by now that Osama Bin Laden is a fictional entity, a phantom, and an agent put forth by the European media to scare the whites (and other races that embrace Eurocentricity) into accepting the destruction of the Middle East at any and all costs. As far as “leadership” is concerned; the topic has nothing to do with “leadership”, so that’s a strawman argument, lol. Barack Obama is not a leader. He is a figurehead, which is something that is above your level of comprehension.

    @STEUPZ

In my opinion, Obama’s “plan” must take years to come to fruition because it’s necessary for a figurehead to put off actually confronting the issues that he claimed he could confront. Their is always the chance that he will fail and be exposed as a fraud.

  42. dukesman2000

    @Steupz…

You asked a question and I honestly believe you really do not know. In other words, I do not think you are being sarcastic, so I will tell you. As the saying goes, Rome was not built in a day. Even God Himself took six days to create the earth and everything in it. By no means am I comparing God to Barack or Barack to God, that would be extreme blasphemy, but I am just pointing out to you that things do take time. Obama’s start date is January 20th, at least give him time to swear in…lol. Hey just remember that the only safe ship in a storm is leadership. Obama has demonstrated this leadership, in his already transparency of the economic state. He has already indicated that he is willing to do every and anything to help us through this crisis. There are a million and one things that need to be done to get this economy rolling again and I really do not have the time to sit down and go through them now. However, the most important of them all, is to rejuvenate consumer confidence to start spending again. The exchange of money is the fuel that drives any economy. Printing money is a no no because it causes hyper inflation and devalues the existing currency. I work in the hedge fund industry and I made most of my money through investing. Since this crisis, I taken approximately 40% casualties and have since then withdrawn all my investment from the market. Why because the my confidence is shot. I am not at all motivated to start investing again until I see signs of an upswing in the market trend. But it is a catch 22. Most people are thinking like me but there won’t be any positive movement marketwise until we start investing. This is where the confidence comes in. Once Obama takes office, the financial institutions will start giving credits again and you will see a significance bounce in the economy. Now this does not men that everything will be peaches and creme, because the remnants of unemployment and foreclosures will still be out there. So these issues will have to be addressed on a different level.

Now this is in layman’s term what we are facing and I believe things will get better. However in the mean time, hold on to your job, be a little frugal and ride the wave. To use a nautical reference here: do not worry about the wind, just adjust your sails.

  43. dukesman2000

    @ Judas,

I just answered your questions but my comment is in moderation. Hopefully you will see it

  44. dukesman2000

@Judah….This crisis that we face is one that is dynamic. It changes everyday. So for you to say that nothing changed since Obama and McCain debated the topic of the economy, is simply not true. For one, the unemployment rate was not as high in October as it is now. If you were paying attention you would have seen that for the month of November alone, 530,000 jobs were lost. If that is not a “stark” change, I do not know what is. I will not engage in your “propaganda ministry” about 9/11. The fact of the matter is, 9/11 was real. The US was in bed with Osama Bin Laden and now we have seen the ugly offspring that union has produced. The first contact with Bin Laden was in 1979, when the new graduate from the Univ. of Jedah got in touch with the U.S. embassy in Ankara, Turkey. With the help of the CIA and the U.S. Armed Forces intelligence services he began to organize in the early 1980’s and network to raise money and to recruit fighters for the Afghan Mujahidins that were fighting the Soviets. He did this from the city of Peshawar in Pakistan, bordering Afghanistan. Part of these activities were financed with the production and sale of morphine, the base of heroin. This was the beginning of today’s Al Qaida (the base) network led by Bin Laden. Indeed the chickens are coming home to roost for the U.S. In all, the United States funnelled more than $ 2 billion in guns and money to the Mujaheddin during the 1980s. It was the largest covert action program since World War II. President Clinton had the chance of eliminating Osama during his administration but because he was a “polls president” (which means that he governed by polls; he did not want to lose ratngs amongst the American people) When Bill Clinton sent troops after Osama, he was being criticized here at home. The American people and pundits alike were saying he was trying to divert attention from the Monica Lewinski scandal by bombing Afghanistan and he succumbed to the criticism and withdrew. As a result, this embolden Osama to plan 9/11. Judas, there are a lot of things you do not know and I will not expound on these facts over the Internet. I do not want violate the terms of my security clearance and have these people haul me off the Brig.

A figurehead is a person who holds an important title or office yet executes little actual power. Going by that definition, Bush is/was a figurehead and Obama is a leader. Obviously you do not know the difference.

Why do people bring up the war and only won’t to tally up the deaths of the American soldiers? That really bugs me. What about all the innocent civilians that were killed in this war?

Dukesman, I appreciate the response; and if I were to condense it to reply I’d say you’re saying Obama will restore confidence through leadership in the short run and action in the medium term.

But, you never really dealt with the medium-term solutions.

‘Rome wasn’t built in a day rings more like an excuse than an idiom in my opinion. You see, I recall Obama saying -before the debate- that this crisis was the worst since the Depression; then he casually observed he could multi-task by doing a single task (preparing for the debate)

So, I am often left confused by Obama.
He was then summoned by the President, whom he described as “dangerous” and supported his idea to dope the economy with a bailout; an idea that’s failed thus far. In fact, it’s failed, end of.

So, given that, and his seeming illiteracy on the economy and markets (remember he is a constitutional law scholar)… what makes you think he can
    1) restore confidence
    2) innovate to spur the economy back to normalcy

Seems you’re still sipping the si se puede.

Unless and until Obama rejects everything, everything he’s said before, I doubt he’ll achieve what he’s promised.
Cause (idiom approaching) ‘at the end of the day’ it’s business and innovation that run the economy, not speculators and slogans.

    @Steup,

Judging from your response, I can tell that you are not a supporter of Obama; hence you are blinded by you biases towards him and his policies. If you think Obama is not capable of handling this crisis, can you tell who beleive can right this problem? I am curious. I am not naive to think I will change your mind towards Obama in a few paragraphs; that would be like chasing the horizon. You said that I have not outlined the “medium-solution.” You are right what I have outlined in my previous post to you was a long term solution. What we’re facing here is a crisis of immense proportion; one that this country hasn’t seen since 1932, so there are no short-term or medium-term solutions to this unprecedented problem. The fact of the matter is the only solution to this matter are you and me – consumers. Consumer spending makes up 70 percent of the total U.S. economy, so when Americans stop buying, the whole economy shudders. That’s why so many government officials hope consumers shop like they mean it during the holiday season.

To be honest, I am not a fan of the bailout, because I believe if you run a company on antiquated business models and ignore the changes in market conditions, failure is inevitable. And that is exactly what we see is happening with the Big 3. That is the realities of a free enterprise economy. Also, I do not believe the government should decide which industry wins or loses. However, with that being said, the bailout is just a small fix to this economic crisis. It is like putting a bandage over an amputation. The government has to find a way to get people back to work, rejuvenate people’s confidence to take their money from under their mattresses go out and start spending and investing in our future which will ultimately get this economy going again. The sad thing about this crisis is that people, including you, take our putrid state for granted. I don’t know what it is; maybe it is because you guys still have jobs so you are somewhat staying above water; doesn’t work or does not have huge responsibilities i.e. a mortgage, or family to support. But if this economy is not righted, sooner rather than later you will find this problem at your door steps and then and only then, you will realize the importance getting this thing right. Maybe some people just do not have a care in the world so they couldn’t careless if the economy’s bottom falls completely out or not. You know the saying if you sleep on the floor you cannot fall off the bed.

  49. I also hope everyone acknowledges that they have to have patience when this new administration comes into office. He has a lot on his plate.
