POLITICS: TIME’S PERSON OF THE YEAR / SHARPTON & KENNEDY HAVE LUNCH / OBAMA’S LABOR & TRANSPORTATION SECRETARIES
Friday, December 19, 2008

President-elect Barack Obama was chosen as Time magazine’s person of the year for their Dec. 29, 2008/Jan. 5, 2009 double issue.
“For having the confidence to sketch an ambitious future in a gloomy hour, and for showing the competence that makes Americans hopeful he might pull it off, the president-elect is TIME’s Person of the Year,” according to the magazine.
The cover image was created by artist Shephard Fairey, who also created the popular Hope image.
SHARPTON & KENNEDY HAVE LUNCH

Al Sharpton, left, and Caroline Kennedy have lunch at famed soul food restaurant Sylvia’s in Harlem, New York, Thursday Dec. 18, 2008. The late President John F. Kennedy’s daughter acknowledged Thursday that she is seeking to be appointed to the U.S. Senate seat held by Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has been nominated by President-elect Barack Obama to be secretary of state.
“I come at this as a mother, as a lawyer, as an author, as an education advocate and from a family that really has spent generations in public service,” Kennedy told reporters after lunch. “I feel this commitment, and this is a time when nobody can afford to sit out. And I hope that I have something to offer.”
OBAMA’S LABOR & TRANSPORTATION SECRETARIES

Hilda Solis, pictured in blue next to President-elect Barack Obama, is his pick for labor secretary.
Solis, who is the daughter of Mexican and Nicaraguan immigrants, has been the only member of Congress of Central American descent. She recently won a fifth term representing heavily Hispanic portions of eastern Los Angeles County and east LA.
Obama is scheduled to announce Solis’ selection on Friday along with his selection of Republican Rep. Ray LaHood of Illinois for transportation secretary.

What do people think about a Kennedy going for the seat in senate? Does experience matter with her name?
Shout out to former mayor of Dallas Ron Kirk who will be announced in Obama’s cabinet. I picked up my 3 mags today Ebony and Essence with Michelle and Barack on the cover.
Person of the Year= no brainer. He has the most diverse cabinets I have ever seen and people still trip. Also, what’s up with this Rick Warren business I mean they act like he is taking a position in the cabinet.
It just seems like the media and everybody is watching him with a fine tooth comb. I don’t remember all these questions about Bush or Clinton. Maybe I was too young.

LOL I knew there was a deal going on behind closed doors with the kennedy’s and powerhouse dems.
the difference between caroline and hillary was that it was publicly known that caroline didnt want anything to do with politics and hillary lives and breathes politics since before bill.
this new appointed people are becoming predictable and are revealing alot of the stratergies used in this years elections.
I LIKE IT.

#2 Dead on!! That’s all I have to say about that!! But this Warren thing is trippin me out. This compaison to Civil Rights, is almost killing me.They are mad as hell aren’t they. The man is a pastor and isn’t most pastors against gay marriage!!! I just don’t get what the big deal is. If he picked someone else they may be against abortion, then the pro choice would have reason to upset, not everyone will be satisfied about any choice, but one will still have to be made. So just deal with it and move on!!! Not homphobic either, just saying come on guys and girls move on, pick your fights more carefully.

@TRUTHBTOLD
He IS against abortion too!! This guy is a bigot and picking him was unecessary. There are plenty of religous leaders who are not bigots and what’s wrong w/ Mya Angelou and just keeping religion out of it altogether? God dammit! Everybody loves Mya Angelou! She’s a national treasure. Who the f**k is this guy?

If gay people have a problem with Obama’s pick of Warren then they are contradicting themselves. You can’t say you want people to except you for who you are, and then say you are mad at Obama for picking someone you don’t agree with. He’s not suppose to be arround people who they dissagree with? I thought they wanted to be treated equaly even though people may dissagree.

TOO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WOMEN. Please. Hillary is the most accomplished first lady in her own right by far, before she married her husband.
