POLITICS/VIDEO: OBAMA’S ROAD TO THE WHITE HOUSE / WIN TICKETS TO THE INAUGURATION
Wednesday, December 31, 2008
Check out 60 Minutes‘ look back at President-elect Barack Obama’s historic journey to the White House which, aired Sunday.
WIN TICKETS TO THE INAUGURATION

Want to be there when Pres. Barack Obama takes the oath of office in a few days?
Unlike past inaugurations, this one won’t be funded by lobbyists or corporations. President-elect Barack Obama is counting on grassroots supporters to make this the most open and accessible Inauguration in history.
Ten supporters will be selected between now and midnight on January 8th to join the inaugural activities. You and a guest could be flown to Washington, D.C., put up in a hotel, and be part of this once-in-a-lifetime event.
Visit PIC2009.org/tickettohistory and answer the question: “What does this inauguration mean to you?” Participants are encouraged to donate to the inauguration, though organizers say that is not required.
Winners will be picked on the strength of their essay, organizers said, and there is no restriction on the essay’s length.
There’s also no promise that the winners will get to meet Obama — other than to catch sight of him at one of the 10 Inaugural Balls he and his wife, Michelle, will attend.
The contest is open to anyone 18 and older and limited to residents of the 50 states and D.C.
Winners won’t have much time to make arrangements; they will be notified by Jan. 16 — just four days before the event.

That was a nice special and Obama and his team ran an excellent campaign.
I live in Baltimore but I don’t think I will be going down to D.C, its gonna be crazy out there. I’d rather watch from the comfort of my home. But I’m pretty excited for the Obama’s and 2009!

The Inauguration tickets are free but there are only a limited amount given out because of the limited space to be up close. They’re also gonna have big screens up at the National Mall for the people who don’t have tickets (which is going to be the majority of the people in D.C.).

Why is everyone saying this is a once in a life time event. Are we saying we will never have a monority President again. That’s a little silly. Why are people donating to this party. I would one day like to see some one win and go right to work with out the partying. I’ve always disagreed with the Ball. I wont be watching like I didnt watch for BUSh whom I voted for because I hate to see money being wasted.
And I’m sorry to disappoint you J but there will be money coming in from lobbyists and corporations. ( just like the election party) I know it easy to think that he is above it all but deep down inside he is a polticain like EVERYBODY else. And the min we forget that is the min the wool gets pulled over our eyes.

@ JA…
i see your point. however, this is a once in a lifetime experience. To witness the FIRST minority president being sworn in is a huge deal for some people. Many people who lived through the civil rights movement and fought the battles for us to get to where we are now never thought that they would see in their lifetime a black man elected to the highest office in the land. This election brought the most political participation that the country has seen in years, and that is another part of the excitement. For the first time, people are feeling like they actually made a difference. Young America has been so indifferent towards the political process for so long…and this just breaks the cycle.

Talk about cynical… Why so much bitterness? President’s have hosted inaugural balls for hundreds of years. It was in 1809, after the Inauguration of James Madison at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., that the tradition of the Inaugural ball began. Quite frankly, it sounds like you are against Obama having an inaugural ball, and not so much new president’s in general. Regardless of your political affiliation or social status, this is a historical event–and one to be very proud of. Once in a lifetime? Absolutely. You only get to see the first time once. Stop being such a stick in the mud and embrace the new face of America.

One thing I want us to remember is that our work with Obama cannot stop simply because he is elected. He will need us to do our parts in our individual communities. Celebrate, but lets not forget the work that is in head of us. As far as money goes, Obama has rewritten the political campaigning book on accepting certain types of funds. He is already that different politician.

I see JA is trying to spoil the party….lol Hey, stop trying to be the turd in the punch bowl at the party and revel in the historic moment of this past election. We have our first Black President and I guarantee you, though expectations are high, he will go down as one of the best presidents this country has ever seen. Why? Obama knows that it is better to teach a man how to fish than to fish for him. Therefore he will implement policies that will enable people to provide for their families. He will end the war in Iraq which will save this country 10 billion dollars per month. He can use that money to invest in our inner city schools. Offer more scholarships to inner city youths, so they can compete in the job market against their white suburban counter parts. As the saying goes, it is the responsibility of leadership to provide opportunity, and the responsibility of individuals to contribute. With all the tax cuts, people will have more disposable income to address their financial needs in the form of saving for retirement and saving for their children’s college.

@dukesman
You need to visit more than concreteloop. The money being spent in Iraq will now go toward iran, Afgan, and Pakastan. It’s called the defense budget. Not to mention the money that will be spent on Immigration ( wait and see) and the bailout that i am so aganist. 10 billion dollars per month is a gross overstatement of Iraq funding but I’ll let you look up that for yourself. Its public record. As for Education for inner-city school… LOL first as a property tax paying mother I can assure you there is nothing Obama can do for the local school. That is a local government issue. NCLB is responsible for less than 1% of any school system budget. Now i hope that you voted in your local elections ie Senate, Mayor, Governer, School Board. Thats were improvement of schools come from. not the President. And if you go to his website and read most of the econmic reports as of November there will be no tax cuts as of yet. Taxes will go up for everyone because the Bush tax cut will be allow to expire raising taxes for everyone. ( taxes were higher under clinton)
And lastly name one thing Obama did for the greater good of the educational program in Chi-town and why they are like 3rd or fouth from the bottom among major cities. One of Obama’s job and platform topic on this run for senate.
The election is over. Lets stop kissing his ass and start holding him accountable for all the promises. Just like we did Bush. Lets be fair. I want to see the change that all of you said I should wait and see. Not two years from now, right now as Jan 20.

@ LJ
I dont vote because of the color of his skin. i could careless. The partying and all the extra is not change it’s more of the same. I wish all President would just go to work. Like I said ( not sound like) I am against all the extra spending. I wish Bush wouldnt have had a party.
@HU Cutie
This is not breaking any Cycle, watch what happens in two short year. I will bet money the Congress election will not be taken as serious even though the are just as if not more important than the presidental election. I know you dont want to hear it, but if you stop to dance after every battle you end up losing the war.
