I absolutely LOVE Beyonce but these videos are a hot mess!! She needs to quit letting Melina direct so many videos because they are beginning to all look alike. Hmmmm….lemme think…..where to start…..ok here goes:

Na-na-na Diva is female version of A Milli, of A Milli of a of A Milli…..
I get the concept and the imagery symbolism in the video (mannequins/female competition in the trunk, standing with a group of C3PO’s/Grammy’s, etc) but Melina should really cut back on the whole “letting the artist have creative input” thing because then videos like that are created. Stylistically I absolutely love it. The fashion mainly (no matter how space cadet it looks, mind u people in the 60’s expected us to be dressing like that by now anyway), but the half-baked choreography, horrid set choices, and Beyonce’s need to be a rapping singer (I blame u jigga….need I remind u of Sexy Little Thug/ In Da Club? Or Back Up? And of course the repetitive Diva?) Turn me off from this whole Sasha Fierce gimmick. I respect the hustle and I get her logic musically, but I don’t think she gives the fans enough credit for knowing when music is made from the heart for the fans, and when it’s constructed in an attempt to find the perfect formula for a guaranteed hit/huge payday. A lot of people say she made the video to appeal to urban markets…..well live in an urban market (let’s call it what is “the hood”) and ummmm well…they should probably do more target-audience research….and BTW Beyonce gay guys love the song………..seriously.

I don’t think Beyonce’s talent is what most people are questioning. Obviously she is VERY talented. It seems like she’s stuck…trying very hard to make a hit, be the trendy, br on top, etc. When that happens she comes across as boring because every move seems so calculated….almost puppet like. With Crazy in Love, we got fresh, organic, attitude, sassy, sexy, talent all combined in one. I think people want that — not necessarily in the same types of songs - but that same rawness. Maybe it was a fluke.

I think people say she’s boring because we rarely see her personality and emotions. Even her interview rsponses are very calculated. It’s a fine line in protecting your privacy and giving your fans a little piece of you to connect with.

Part 2: hmmm…..ok I know…..:

Halo…what to say about halo…not a lot really…wait it’s all coming back to me…….The song really could a huge hit for B if the video was a tad bit more ethereal….yea she could’ve done the obvious and put angels and clouds and ACTUAL halo’s in the video but it’s B so she just had to do the opposite…..but here’s just the basics on how I feel about the video:

Lighting- I’m assuming she was tryna capture a similar effect of the lighting in Love In This Club problem wit that is it blurs and glares and cannot be edited out. So next time B close them curtains. Studio lighting is your best friend.

Casting- Now we just got over this whole l’oreal airbrushing a white Beyonce and she decides to look like Mariah Carey circa 1990’s….oh and then the casting of a (whatever color)-eyed light skinned curly perm BEAUTIFUL black man instead of your husband or his look-a-like (the camel off the carton of cigarettes) is actually very shallow.

Storyline-lack thereof

Halo is suited for black and white with splash of color. Diva is not. I’m really lookin forward to seeing this video anthology to see what she comes up with for each song…..not expecting a whole lot at this point Bey is a hard worker and EXTREMELY talented but talent, good looks, and few hit singles can only do so much. Complete originality and consistency works best.
