#3 Brandy didn’t receive her just due??? She was America’s first black “sweetheart”…she was mainstream and popular as heck…No other black person got all the deals and opportunities she did. Of course, she eventually grew up and, like every other child star, struggled to find footing as an adult in the industry. Her type of music, her voice, her image…it just wasn’t trendy when in the new millennium. The only people who survived being teen stars were the really precocious and raunchy ones like Britney Spears and Beyonce. But Beyonce’s Dad was smart enough to have her pretend to be quintessentially the shy girl next door so that she could still be marketable to kids in the mainstream. If Brandy had been raunchier she might have had a shelflife…as awful as that sounds.
