EVENTS: THE NEIGHBORHOOD INAUGURAL BALL
Wednesday, January 21, 2009

As we posted earlier, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama shared their first dance as Beyonce sang “At Last”, at the Neighborhood Inaugural Ball on Tuesday night (view video).
Other performers and guests included Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx, and Denzel Washington.

Yesterday was truly surreal. I watched it ALL DAY LONG. Could not get enough of our new President and First Lady. I thought Michelle looked AMAZING both in her day/swearing in outfit and in her inaugural ball gown. Simply stunning. And the first dance was just beautiful. They are so in love and for them to conclude this long journey with “At Last” was very fitting. That moment brought me to tears. And no, it wasn’t a Beyonce momemt. As much as I love Bey, NOTHING could have taken the shine off the first couple last night. They were radiant.

You’re right. I remember them saying she was going to attend the “official after party” on CNN. I saw pick of her at the RIAA Ball and she looked noce, though people said she dressed inappropriate.

I say for 2009 you all stop with this hate/love for Beyonce.
Whatever she does or didn’t do just get over it already. She’s a perfomer. She’s not God. Cut it out already.
Why do you care whether she’s singing the first dance, or not singing the inaguration song or whatever. It’s really none of your business.
All of you who thinks she walks on water and the one’s who are constantly putting her down: GET A LIFE!

So are we supposed to show indifference? That wouldn’t be any fun, lol. Besides…since you’re present and reading all this love/hate for Beyonce that means you’re here often, so DO YOU HAVE A LIFE?
I’m just saying…do you and be happy and satisfied.

Please leave your hate in 2008. The focus is supposed to be on Barack and Michelle. They asked Beyonce to perform and she did a great job! 2009 is supposed to be a year for change. So why don’t you stop hating and channel your negative energy into something positive..like volunteering.
Anyway yesterday’s events were amazing and history was made

President Obama genuinely loves that woman and his family…you can see it in their interactions. He is always holding her hand and they always have something to exchange between one another. I hear some people say they are faking and all that other nonsense, well if they are they are some damn good actors.
There were so many people from different backgrounds, music genres and whatnot there on their behalf, and I’m sure the Obamas had something to do with that….I thought that was so wonderful.

WTH are ya’ll talking about Beyonce for? The only people taking attention away from the Obamas are the same people complaining about Beyonce taking attention away from the Obamas.
Seriously, no reason to ruin a beautiful occasion by complaining about the person singing.
It was a beautiful, inspiring historical event all about unity and possibilities. There is no reason to make a fuss about petty sh*t.
Anyways, I thought it was beautiful. The unity and heart on display that day was amazing. I do fear that people will turn on him though. I’ not looking forward to that day, and I honestly hope it doesn’t happen, but people are people.

I love the whole ball except for…Jay-z. Whackest performance of the night. Didn’t think he should have done that song (didn’t eve know the song). He should have do “Show Me What You Got” that would have been more appropriate for me.
Mr. President and First Lady Obama looks so beautiful together. I love that they are the new poster couple for black love. He truly loves his wife. I want a husband like he someday. Did you see the way he was dancing OoOo la la. He is so SEXY.
Beyonce killed it! Love her, love her, love her. So sick of people acting like she ain’t shit. No one right now can hold a flippin’ candle to Beyonce. No one else could sing that song like she did. Rihanna…no….Keyshia…no….Alicia (might have)….but no! Beyonce is the best. You go BEE!!!
Mariah….wow…..girl I don’t know what to say. That wasn’t a good job at all. I mean I could tell it was Mariah but if I had closed my eyes I couldn’t, My mom says she’s pregnant and she most have not have been feeling well that night. I say she’s older and just had a bad preformance.
Over all it was wonderful OoO and Stevie Wonder was good too. Will. I. Am was good too. Loved it all. (sorry so long)

Come on people! Give Puffy, Jayz, Beyonce and Solange a break. They have had a pretty rough year. Especially Beyonce and Solange. They both just came off of major flops. The Obama’s are know for helping people out. Besides, Jayz, Beyonce and Puffy helped campaign. Solange, she just does what she always does; ride her sister’s fame. I’m sure Matthew tried like hell to get them to let her perform too. So lay off, there are some perks to being Beyonce’s sister. So much for not wanting to be tied to them.

I heard that Beyonce was invited to attend the inauguration, the same with the ball.
I also heard she selected what song she wanted to sing. And there was more meaning to the song then the original meaning.
Anyways, Michelle and Obama are so freaking cute together. LOL! I was cooing over them the whole time they were dancing. I love to see black people in love, truely and genuinely. I’m proud of myself. At first, I wasn’t going to vote for him because of his name, so I sided with Hilary. Then, when it came down to it, I sat my butt down and listened to his speeches and studied his platform. This was my first time voting and I hope that the decision I made will help change our world, not just our country, for the better

Everyone who is getting mad at Bee saying that it was not her moment, it was the Obamas, should not blame her. Blame everyone on this post that keeps bringing up her name more than the Obamas. It is not her fault that she is talked about so much. Also if she was asked to perform the song by the family, why wouldn’t she take the honor and opportunity? So she should have turned it down and said “no i’m going to let someone else do it because people on blogsites think I do too much. Or no, Etta is still alive so I’m going to let her sing it?” It’s a huge moment and honor and anyone who had the priveledge to be apart of it I am sure would not have turned it down. Beyonce does not have the godly power to make her name come off the tongues of everyone, unfortunately her success and drive forces that to happen (apparently). Should she apologize? Let’s just knock it all off. What a beautiful moment last night, for the country, for the Obamas, for Beyonce, and for everyone else who was apart of it and got to experience it. So what.

The ceremony couldn’t be hampered by the celebrities who were so obviously and blantantly attempting to get their shine by seating near the President. They were invited , they had to pay extra. But, if making themselves look important is a need they have to fulfill why hate. I’m not impressed because those celebtrities just made themselves look stupid as far as I’m concern and it’s obvious that their charitable deeds are meant to glorify themselves and not God or humanity. Even, Oprah had the decency and class to sit with the every day people. Denzel and Magic Johnson, Cusak, Hoffman, are they serious? Even Steven Spielberg? And if they listen to or read anything Obama has said, he makes a point to tell people that he doesn’t watch t.v. and he’s not impressed by superficial garbage. Our President is about being authentic. If you pay attention, Obama seems more relax around everyday people. I highly doubt Washington D.C. will turn into Hollywood 2.0 like it was under the Clinton Admin.
As far as Michelle and Obama, I am truly in love with this couple. lol. He has to be the most sexiest husband in the world. The way President Obama looks at his wife, whispers in her ear, constantly has to be near her, is just so awe. The cutiest moment of the day was when they were dancing at the Parade, love that. But the sexiest moment was at the Celebration that aired on ABC 7. That was so hot, when they began dancing and he was kissing her, looking into her eyes, and he really started to “enjoy being close to her”, she had to pull him away. That was hot. And where is this that he can’t dance, I don’t see that, but I do see a sophisticated man, that isn’t going to make himself look like an uncivilized man, grinding on his wife in front of the world, that would be tacky. And that little dance he does, well he’s playing around. I’m sure that when the Obamas are in private, he really dances with her. I loved and was moved by the honesty and real emotion when Kerry Washington and MJB cried as the Obamas were dancing. As a black woman , watching a black President dance with his black wife, had to be moving , especially for two black women in the entertainment industry.
The whole Beyonce thing , well she did an excellent job, I was focused on the Obamas. But, Jay Z made me upset, he could have atleast wrote a rap about them, and not talk about his girl.

Obviously yesterday was one that will never be forgotten. But when it comes to the “Beyonce Factor” I can see why everyone talks about her from time to time. I do indeed like Beyonce…I can’t deny her talent, energy and goal of being an icon someday, however I am definetley getting to the point some of these “haters” are at. I admire the talent but I’m starting to feel like she is a big enough star to not have to have the spotlight everywhere… I mean whether or not she sang At Last. she would still be beyonce… It just seems like she is a bit greedy and I think it is ashamed that no one sees her lime light as maybe, overdone. She is just turning into that person in class that is constantly kissing the teachers ass to pass out papers, or watch the class when they leave. Yes she is one of the most talented female vocalist for our generation, but that doesn’t mean that the “game” has to become just Beyonce… U will sell regardless, so why hogg the lime light from the artist who need the exposure?

@130..
I hope and pray that you’re joking. It is not Beyonce’s fault that she appeals to many people causing her to be exposed everywhere. Obama invited her to sing for them, she didn’t pay her way to the top. How can you say she’s hogging the lime light? Is it her fault all these other artists are just played out or just straight up unappealing? Beyonce has many fan, and a ginormous fan base, you may not want to see her every step you take but that is you darling. Your feelings don’t apply to everyone around you. Beyonce doesn’t run into blog posts and insist on everyone to talk about her when Obama gets elected, that is our decision. You can choose to reply, following along, or just ignore it. People want to talk about Beyonce whether it is out of love/hate or “I just don’t care”. If people are really tired of Beyonce like they claim they are, they would stop addressing her fans, stop entering her posts, AND HUST STOP TALKING ABOUT HER.
If they claim not to like her, why is it so hard to not mention her? I don’t get it, I really don’t.

Words can’t describe how beautiful this all is, from Obama beating Hilliary and winning the Democratic nomination to his swearing in. It is all truly overwhelming in the most amazing way. I know that President Obama will lead the nation like no other American President has ever, while upholding a positive perception of African Americans. I’m truly blessed to have witnessed this.
On the other hand, I KNEW that as soon as he won the nomination, Beyonce would somehow be involved. Someone mentioned earlier that the Obama’s asked her to perform, but I heard that she offered. Either way, we’re oversaturated with her and I was very dissapointed to see her up there. In reading the news today, I think I have read more about her singing the song of their first dance then the first dance itself. I don’t think she tried on purpose to make the moment about her, but that’s what happened. She sang well, yes. But it should not have been about her. And that interview only proved how volunerable and illiterate she is! Now we know why she does not do more candid interviews. I wish she would go retire or something. Lastly, someone should have told her not to wear such a formal dress (loooog train). Again, you don’t go to someone else’s ball, dressed as if its your own (JLo did it too.) UGH! Away with Beyonce.

The entire Inauguration Day was monumental and awe-inspiring! And the Obamas make a wonderful couple. Barack and Michelle Obama are clearly very much in love, and the obvious affection between them is real (not just a “put-on” for the cameras). This is what you call “Black Love at its finest.”
I love both of Michelle’s Inauguration Day dresses. Her ball gown is just beautiful. Alot of the intricate detailing on the dress didn’t show up over the TV cameras, but when you see photos of the dress up-close, you realize just how gorgeous it is! And Michelle Obama has the perfect stature and presence to carry of this type of gown.
Overall, an absolutely wonderful day (and evening), from start to finish!

it in video it didn’t look that good. It’s cute
Oh and Mariah lost her voice.
I think others can sing her classics better
than her now. That’s what you get when
you don’t live to your full potential.
She purposely stopped singing strong and
bold like she use to and stuck to singing
whispery. All in the process she lost the
ability to sing her powerful songs. Even
the whispery ones. Smh. If you don’t
use it you’ll LOSE it.

To be honest, for the people talking crap about Beyonce saying she was trying to steal their shine and blah blah blah. I just think YOU are the ones so focused on her that even something as beautiful as the dance between Obama and Michelle couldn’t take your mind off of her. Im not a huge Bey fan nor am I a hater but in NO WAY did she overshadow the pres and the first lady. The emotion and true love in their eyes when you saw their faces, if Beyonce overshadowed that for you then obviously your hate for her is TRULY extreme. I thought she did a good job and she seemed more real than I had ever seen her because you could really see the emotion on her face, didnt same fake at all. I think at last was an appropriate song. I know some people said thats a wedding song but considering AT LAST we have a black president, well I think that is why the song was picked.

Beyonce needed to put a dam bra on because nipples aren’t in vogue at such an occasion. Truly tastless!!

I also just want to add that maybe the reason why Etta didnt sing her own song was because isn’t she like 70 years old? I highly doubt she sounds the way she use to. I personally think Aretha buthered her song at the inaguaration. Once you get a certain age, your voice is not gonna be what it use to be. I dont care how good of a singer you were in your day. Beyonce like her or not, was the best choice to sing that. Even Mariah Carey doesn’t sound the way she use to.

I would like to read more about the actual dance than Beyonce’s performance. I also noticed that most artist sung their own songs except for Beyonce, I think the reason is Beyonce does not have any classics to sing or something that would have fit that occassion. Beyonce is being mentioned because this blog chose to also highlight Beyonce as if it was her night. I do think that she asked to be apart of the celebration, Obama’s committee chose Beyonce because he once talked about being a fan……Obama cant insult Beyonce by saying “I didnt choose her the committee did” so he went along with it. Beyonce made this event about her by requesting to perform during most of her interviews, if Obama really liked her or if they were friends then she would have gone straight to him and not the media to put the bug in their ears. Visual she is tiring us out! Beyonce rode the train into the city like Obama, Beyonce got her dress made for the event and it ended up looking a mess with her nipples hanging out, and she revealed the song she was singing for the dance after the committee wanted to keep it tight lipped….Attention go getter.

I feel you on that, when you reach a certain age you voice changes especially if your not keeping it trained. On the other hand I feel like it was their moment, and if Etta would have sang it still would have been nice. I also get how others feel that maybe a more seasoned artist that went through the struggle should have performed, lets say Yolanda Adams, Gladys Knight, Patti, Anita Baker, Stephanie Mills could have sang HOME…..its already past but I wanted to see some old school up in there. I think many think that Beyonce was the best choice because the media makes it seem like she is the one black artist that we have. They could have even chosen Jill Scott, Angie Stone, Jennifer Hudson and so on. Most forget that their were artist before Beyonce, Beyonce is not the only artist who can sing.

People need to get a grip. This ball was a celebration of the youth who came together to get him elected. He could not have done it it if we hadn’t come out to vote, and this was their way of saying thanks. They went to something like 10 Inaugural balls last night. I’m sure they had one where the stuffy, old white people could enjoy themselves (not that they would).
