Meet Melanie Fiona, the latest protege of Steve Rifkind, the industry veteran who brought you the Wu-Tang Clan and Akon. She most recently gained a good fan base by opening up the European leg of Kanye West’s famed Glow In the Dark tour.
Her first single “Give It To Me Right” samples The Zombies’ “Time of the Season,” and Melanie counts Sam Cooke, Nat King Cole, and Gladys Knight as inspirations for her debut album, The Bridge, which will drop sometime this spring (projected month of May) via SRC Records/Universal Motown.

But anyways, this song is ok….its cool to hear music that has a real singer on it nowadays. Not tooo many songs out now have good collacborations of a Good artist with Good beats…its just mainly the beats. I love music that sounds good from the beats to the artist vocal skills…eveything gotta mesh or its not 100%.

She sounds like the way Kelis wishes she could carry a tune. Stylisticly waaay different, but the tone of her speaking and singing sounds like Kelis with a hint of Jazmine Sullivan to me. I hope her marketing is strategic, because she could easily become a gimmick.

This is actually the first new artist that has been put up on here that I have listened to their entire song. She does have a nice voice, but the song is just okay. It could definitely be a grower or possibly on a movie soundtrack. I thought Amy and Solange already gave us that old doo-wop sound though.

ummm… i’m not sure yet how i feel about this song. she has a great voice but this song by the zombies is such a rock n roll classic, it’s hard to think of it any other way than how it was originally recorded. i guess it will have to grow on me.
