Meet Tami Chynn. You may think you don’t know who she is, but I’m sure you’ve got a glimpse of Ms. Chynn in Akon’s “I’m So Paid” video. Interestingly enough, I was very intrigued by Tami’s bio. She’s of Chinese and European decent, but a born and raised native of Kingston, Jamaica. Chynn studied the performing arts in London, but returned to her Jamaican roots, taking lessons from Jamaican artists such as Beenie Man, Sean Paul and Lady Saw, all of whom she’s collaborated with in the past.
Now, Tami is working on her first U.S. release, Primadonna, with none other than Akon and RedOne (responsible for the #1 song in the country right now, Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance”) via KonLive, through SRC/Universal Records.
Usually, I’m not a fan of dancehall music, but Tami cites her influences as Sade, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Gwen Stefani and Gloria Estefan. When asked of her influences, here’s what Tami had to say:
“My influences are very eclectic. If you browsed my iPod, you’d get confused, but it all works really.”

YAY! Tami! Finally we see supm on the international scene from her. She has a great image for the market and if marketed properly…who knows she could be big (I mean Rihanna did it with barely a talented bone and Tami has got at least two of those). I like her but her sister Tessanne, who is also an artiste, is more my style.
im actually looking forward to her. i’ve heard some of her stuff over the past year or so and she’s very talented. Kinda like how ppl slept on Lady Gaga and now look at her? Her song been out hella longer then Beyonce and it’s just now hitting number 1. Akon is gonna be the future IMO

Tami’s song is alright, I guess. It’s commercial & it’ll do well in the clubs…never been a fan of her music though. I prefer her sister’s music, Tessanne Chin.

But Akon seems to have a problem positioning his reggae artist in the US Brick & Lace is big in Europe and Africa, and like Tami sing well and write their own songs. She’s had numerous singles in Jamaica on the Dancehall side, which is why most of you haven’t heard of her, but she use to sing and dance backup for Sean Paul and branched out…Her sister Tessanne is wicked too, she has a much stronger voice.

Yes, I think I like Tami on this track and for all the non-Jamaicans who may not be aware of her musical background she has been around for a while and has come out with some pretty good music in JA. so far. But to be really honest I’m am really more into her sister Tessanne Chin (not sure why the Chin is spelled differently) She really has a unique blend of sounds and a great vibe. After listening to Tami’s song Im not that impressed, she sounds like a cross between gwen steffani (when gwen did the whole Jamrock-wanna be thing) and Ladyboy Gaga. It just sounds like something I’ve heard before.
Its quite sad that Brian posted on her because of her ethnicity and NOT because of her talent! Thats exactly why the industry is currently a mess, because record execs promote the “exotic” even if the artist is not talented (i.e Cassie etc). Im not saying Tami doesn’t have talent, frankly I cannot tell based on this song, but Brian should post about her (or anyone else) because of their talent and not because of their ‘unique’ ethnic combinations.

I love Tami Chynn she’s a really great music artist. If you want to hear her really sing check out her songs “over and over again” and “hyperventilation”. She is NO Rihanna this girl actually can sing. Its great to see a fellow Jamaican trying to become more mainstream however I hope she sticks to songs that actually illustrate her true vocals.

i saw a video of her explaining why she changed the spelling of her last name “Chin” to “Chynn”…i dont quite exactly remember but it was something about not being stereotyped.
