Meet Tami Chynn. You may think you don’t know who she is, but I’m sure you’ve got a glimpse of Ms. Chynn in Akon’s “I’m So Paid” video. Interestingly enough, I was very intrigued by Tami’s bio. She’s of Chinese and European decent, but a born and raised native of Kingston, Jamaica. Chynn studied the performing arts in London, but returned to her Jamaican roots, taking lessons from Jamaican artists such as Beenie Man, Sean Paul and Lady Saw, all of whom she’s collaborated with in the past.
Now, Tami is working on her first U.S. release, Primadonna, with none other than Akon and RedOne (responsible for the #1 song in the country right now, Lady Gaga’s “Just Dance”) via KonLive, through SRC/Universal Records.
Usually, I’m not a fan of dancehall music, but Tami cites her influences as Sade, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Gwen Stefani and Gloria Estefan. When asked of her influences, here’s what Tami had to say:
“My influences are very eclectic. If you browsed my iPod, you’d get confused, but it all works really.”
Make sure you check Tami out on MySpace and show her some CL love if you’re digging her sounds!

“Hideaway” is my F’in jam!!…that song is so intense and so real i luv it…i use to have that song on quadruple repeat! lol
I miss the old Tami Chynn. Over & over, Why feat. Wayne Marshall, Still Afraid, Hyperventilating, these are the tracks people here in the US would be into. Hey, maybe we’ll see an interesting collabo with Kat DeLuna another artist from RedOne. Her sister Tessanne Chin is really under the radar, this woman has yet to get a record deal. Anyhow, I’m glad to see she is getting a chance to breakout more and venture into the US market.
NOT FEELIN IT. WHAT HAPPENED TO PATRA?
Are you guys serious?
You actually liked this song?
wow….
…I love her!! Tami is so pretty, cant believe she’s Jamaican!
….I first heard her on Sean Paul’s All On Me.
Tami Chynn is the business. “tell me seh” is a great track she has been on the scene for a little while and she is not rihanna. Tami can actually sing please believe it.

#9 IM RIGHT THERE WIT U!
I LOVE THAT SONG AND ALSO, “BE MINE” & “SHOW ME NOW” SHES FIRE, IF YOU’RE NOT INTO REGGAE THEN OF COURSE YOURE NOT FEELIN THIS\
BULLETTT!!
Ok, why is it that her ethnicity is even in question here?
I’m getting kinda sick of hearing similar criticism over past CL posts.
What qualifies as good urban music/culture nowadays?
Only songs done by Black folks? And, if so, what percentage “black” should the person be?
Same thing when Rocsi was named co-host of 106 & Park. Every ignorant person in the world lost their mind. Funny thing is, as a person of Dominican descent, I’m CONSTANTLY being reminded that I am of African descent (Which I wholly agree with).
That said, it kills me when we (mixed race folks) are excluded for not being Black enough. But, when the s$%t hits the fan, we’re Black again. Whatever.
Yeah I don’t get the big surprise over her background…
There’s a lot of Chinese and white people(and everything else you can name) all over the west indies. She’s not the only Asian/white west Indian chick believe that.
london_gyal_u_dun_kno
I’m wit u 100%!
and # 45 get a life.
Seriously lol there is nothin wrong wit her
but it is ur opinion…not like it matters 2 any1..? lol
Big up tami chynn!!! & JAMAICA!
Tami a di boss!! i wish her all the best on the international scene as she has been rocking it in Jamaica for awhile and of course she has been tearing apart the music industry. I luv Tami! Jamaica is hot! woot woot!! ^.^
#36 jess you call yourself representing for the west indians, but you are here putting down rihanna. You should be supportive of anyone coming out of the west indies and doing their thing. Its alright to support Tammy, but you don’t have to cry down rihanna to do so.
ii’ve been a fan of Tami Chynn for about 4 years now and ive loved most of her work. this new stuff is a lil commercial and not quite her..judging from her past work, but its good stuff anyway..she is GORRRRGEOUS and she has the most fascinating carribbean accent. its good that she is now finding more exposure, but its still quite sad that, for anyone to be anyone, they have to be someone in the US of A first…either way..im happy for her.
Tami Chynn is one of the many hot young dancehall artists thats been out for a long while but is gettin recognition internationally!! we caribbeab ppl know her n big her up one time wishing her much success..she already have hot songs n video’s out (tube her!!!!).. n big up to Akon for recognizing real talent..instead of all the commercial newbies we are seeing..he also drew light to brick & lace..good looking akon!
how can i forget..concrete loop big up to urself..i love this site..eventhough dancehall isnt mainstream i’d like to see more dancehall artists on ur site though now n again ( i see there’s alot of dancehall lovers commenting;))..thanks for shedding some light on our girl Tami!!!
I like this. It’s cool a upbeat song. I think this one will go on the ipod. CL has been on a roll lately. This is the 3rd artist in a row they’ve introduced that I like.
I’m not supporting nobody who has no-talent I don’t care if Rihanna is west indian she is a joke she came Trinidad and get BOOOOO … she is not the best out of the CARRIBEAN Tessanne alone could knock her out…. rih don;t deserve shit she just walk up a down & pose off.. I would never support that … her own Bajan people hate her … she soo false
i love tami!
shes awesome!
nuff love (;
This has been said before but must be repeated Tami is also BLACK!!!! Not feeling this song so much, prefer Frozen. Why haven’t they released the video yet?
They have “pris”…look it up. Its a great vid!
