NEWS: BART OFFICER ARRESTED

( Photo by Cathleen Allison / AP )

Former Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) officer Johannes Mehserle, who shot Oscar J. Grant III, appeared in the East Fork Justice Court on Wednesday in Minden, Nevada.

Mehserle waived extradition to California and was being held without bail on a warrant charging homicide. According to reports, Mehserle was in Nevada because he feared for his safety after death threats were made against him.

Grant’s family has filed a $25 million legal claim against BART, signaling an intention to sue for damages. The family’s attorney, John Burris, said that he was pleased to hear of Mehserle’s arrest:

“If it’s true, the family is delighted, and it will really help with the healing process,” Burris said. “This is also very important for the community. This had to occur; it was almost a no-brainer. I think the district attorney ought to be commended for moving (the case) expeditiously.”

    Justice is served!

  2. Nothing But Love

Good!!!! i hope they beat his ass when he gets in prison

  3. MLOVE

This is GREAT NEWS!!!….Thank GOD for the cell phone recording!! Because if it wasn’t so clean and clear this officer would have NEVER been charged! Justice is being served solely because of the video on the cell phone. Otherwise this would have been swept under the rug by the D.A. and the police department like all the others!

I HOPE HE PAYS BIG FOR WHAT HE DID!!

  4. E$

Finally, he is where he should have been since day 1!

  5. MI

Thank God….i hope the case goes as it should!

  6. FallBackHaters

The police knew they had to do something with his ass. Let’s just hope this ish sticks and they don’t go be letting him out in a few months or so. So sad that a young black youth was victimised and shot over nothing, his family and friends are also the victims as they have to live with the fact he has been selfishly taken from them.

And as for the cop, I almost feel sorry for the dude…

  7. MANDY

Take his life. He deserves to die.

  8. Sweets

Hopefully they won’t be lenient on him because the feel sorry for him. He deserves life in prison…

—-Cracker a$$ cracker. Look at him. He looks like he has already been fitted for his
    — gown and hood. Alot of these cops were punks in high school; no p*ussy getting
—- fools. Now they’ve been given a gun and a badge they feel big bad and bold. I
—–know if he didn’t have his gun Oscar Grant would beat him to a pulp.

  10. The Secret Life of Me

He will be in protective custody for his entire sentence. He won’t be getting out of jail at all, no bail, no good behavior! There is nothing that will allow reasonable doubt and this is the law of karma for Sean Bell.

  11. Honest Critic

I’m glad to see that they FINALLY arested him atleast and they won’t release him on bail as he awaits his trial. I still think people need to continue to protest not riot, but don’t stop protesting because this could just be some hush medicine and he would be able to get out in like a month. His defense team will try everything in the book on this one:
They are going to try to paint Oscar Grant as being one of the biggest criminals.

They’ll try to paint this man as one of the ultimate heroes for serving time in Iraq.

They’ll try to say time served affected his mentality.

Being that he left CA cause of threats, they will likely try to have his trial in Nevada where he can probably have an all white jury that believes cops should have killed Oscar.

  12. 2_Cents

This just made me sooo happy. Justice will be served! Thank God!

  13. QUEEN TEE

WTF he went to nevada bcuz he feared his life….
He’s brave enough to kill but not brave enough to die.. what makes his life more meaningful then Oscar’s I hope they throw the book at him.. had that been a black cop who shot a white young man all hell would brake loose. Anyway i’m gald he was arrested.. i won’t rest untill this mother gets 25 to life..

  17. mrsjones3

    what happened to my comment?

  19. candydevine

I do not believe in the Justice System. But in this case I do believe that Justice
will be served. It is time that these police are held accountable for there actions.
Next a police decides that he is GOD and can just take a life for no reason
    They will think twice!

  20. MAI03

Good! But the sad & scary thing is that there are many more like this officer still out there.

  21. ELIMINATE THE WORD "HATE" IN 09

DAMN IDIOT. JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED AND I CAN’T WAIT . THEY NEED TO GIVE HIM THE DEATH PENALITY OR DO THEY EVEN HAVE THAT IN CALIFORNIA. IF THEY DON’T, THEY NEED IT.

  22. Trenton, NJ Resident

………… Well I glad to see they got his big fat white cracker A$$!!!!!!!. Hopefully they
………… Put his A$$ in general population and they get his A$$. I’m tired of these
…………. Crackers thinking they’re above the law and killing innocent people. The
………….same thing just happened in Trenton where they kiled a 20 year old
…………..they “feared for there life” why the just cant aim lower like they’re legs or
……………I think they need to train these dumb ass Crackers on when to shoot and
………….. where to shoot because thet’re OUT OF CONTROL!!

  25. MissNee

@ 23 Just stating facts of basic police training, but they don’t teach to “Shoot to injure”

At least out here in CA, you shoot to kill not to injure.

  26. t.lynn

I hope they put his ass in general population too….

  27. MissNee

    T LYNN

    They won’t

  28. StarShooter

Funny how he feared for his life and had to flee to Nevada. His victim no longer has a life.

  29. Bullets or Ballots

With cops you always have to ask the question ,is their mind living in reality or in a imaginary world? Because so many cops are racially delusional and believe that they are above the law. It`s clear that this BART officer Mehserle was a cop that was mentally unbalanced and living in a imaginary world. His behavior and actions on the tragic night that he murdered Mr.Grant was violent and mentally abnormal. To take a sworn oath to uphold the law and serve and protect the community and then shoot a unarmed human being who was subdued and lying face down are the actions of a mentally unstable cop that has loss all contact with reality. In the future,I would like to see all police departments in America screen and administer psychological testing ,before they hire a police officer.A critical psychological test and examination can reveal hidden and repressed racism, racial fears and conflicts and other mental disorders.Because this guy Mehserle who killed Grant, like alot of other cops out there, was living in an imaginary world in his mentally unstable mind, that did not exist in reality.

  30. Wthat The F&5K

They had to get his behind of the streets with all of the (alleged) death threats to him. I am happy he is in custody, but this means nothing without a conviction, a real conviction. And for those wish the worst for him while he is in custody, nothing will happen to him because he isolated from the other prisoners.

  31. Mike J.

Justice WILL be served…. To God be the glory!!!

  32. JUDAH

——–Whatever. We’ll see what happens in the “court case”.

  33. @26,yeah shoot to kill when there is an ACTUAL threat…not when a man is layin face down with 2 other cops around…this was just straight hot cow shit..

i hope he gets exactly what he deserves…..this is the one time when i agree with the death penalty

  34. Vee1

___He has been charged with the appropriate crime, now as far as the court case goes, it’s up to the prosecution to do their job and prove their case to the jury beyond the shadow of a doubt.

  35. strange but true

if you could really get into his background i bet you would find that there are ties to a white supremist group. and that this jackal maybe was on steriods. something triggers their mind where if it comes to a blk suspect it terminate w/ extreme prejudice. all officers need to be tested for them steroids. i have seen and you folks have to the law enforcement officers perp walk cauasians killers of law officers, and etc with kid gloves. they will not slaughter their own no matter what hednious crime they commit. this is not white guilt bashing “these are just the facts maam” as joe friday puts it. black man do not give satan and his hosts reason to use us as targets that they pratice with. all black males listen up NAME— RANK— AND SERIAL NO. [ “birth date”.from now on until you can get to a safe haven. cause these people have the need to kill as they put it.

  36. Not_An_Angell

    #33…I’m with you.
Remember Rodney King (also had a video), Amadou Diallo, Abner Louima, Patrick Dorismond, etc, on and on…

Don’t forget how the justice system works for those that have “served” their communities.

  37. Justice is not served yet, but this is a start. Seeing a white man in handcuffs for a crime he obviously committed is rare these days. Hope is justice is carried out all the way- cause they often let these guys off somehow.

  38. Not_An_Angell

    Don’ t get it twisted.
Charged and CONVICTED are not synonymous!!

  39. SOJO

    YESSSSSS.
I was SO passionate about this case as a young, female minority (already making me weaker in 2 positions as an American).
I’m usually a well-spoken young adult who incorporates proper grammer in my dialect.
But -EF it. I’m also a realist above all- and the reality of it is, that cop REALLY needs to get torn UP in jail.
My concolences to the Grant family. It may not bring your son back, and it’s unfortunate Oscar had to be an example of any kind- but at least he is a POSITIVE one that not ALL bad cops get away with such improper use of position and sometimes “justice” (for lack of a better term- my brain is on freeze from excitement) can be served. THANK YOU to all the Grant rioters and supporters of all colors of the race spectrum who risked their own well being to prove a point. God bless those who called and made threats and made this cop flee the state (further hurting his chances for lesser time spent and/or bail)
    THANK YOU!
PLUS- After all the media coverage and with this BART officer possibly having had bad ties with some boys in jail, he’ll stick out like a sour thumb!
Make the torture slow boys- take your time with this one.

  40. Amen. This is a time when technology has been good…

  41. MissNee

    SOJO:

Do not thank people that destroyed personal property of people in my community. I will not accept that because there are people that got screwed over by the rioters that destroyed their only mode of transportation. It’s greedy, selfish and counter productive. I’m sure the person that’s car got burned up the first night (you may not have seen her on tv crying) is praising the same people. Can I got destroy your property? It’s to prove a point, so no harm done right?

2nd: what you said about bail and fleeing is completely wrong. He did not have a warrant for his arrest at the time he left the state. He surrendered without incident. Him being in NV has no bearing on anything.

And he’ll be in PC. Trust

  42. Kina

Didn’t have to kill the boy. Glad to see him arrested at least.

  43. stark-vegas

yes, yes, YES!! i hope the family gets every damn penny they are suing for!!

  44. kmniles

Glad they caught him. I didn’t want to automatically label the man a racist based on the black/white issue and have given the benefit of the doubt, but when he ran it made his actions that night questionable. The only thing I could think was maybe he was trying to subdue him with a stun gun and grabbed his pistol, but that makes no sense since the boy wasn’t struggling.

  45. yuki

I feel bad for the family and him. I bet he didnt expect to kill someone and ruin his own life in the same day. So sad :(

  46. ZULU

    Emotional Simpletons

    (1) This dude will walk
    (2) I will be surprised if they don’t make it so blatant
    (3) There is NO justice until that f*ggot is dead

  47. ZULU

And for those that “feel sorry for him,” go play in traffic.. weak ass degenerates

  48. JUDAH

    ———@KMNILES

———Look at what you wrote man. You said, “The only thing that you could think of.
———….”, lol. That means that you were thinking of reasons to make it a “non-racial
———issue”. I’m shocked and surprised….NOT, lol.

    ——–@Zulu

——–Brother; we’re dealing with a race of people, our people, that are led by the
——–women. We are the only race with this issue. This is why they believe that
——–”justice” is seeing this man in handcuffs. The black man has become weak
——–and effeminate because he is being raised by these compromised women.
——–There are only a handful of sisters that understand what is going on and only a
——–couple more than a handful black men that see what is going on.

  49. Beyonce's ass crack is NOT clean...

Justice is on its way to being done!

  50. Toni

Good, he deserves to be in jail…that was murder he committed and he deserves to serve time like anyone else.

  51. ace

    Oh Judah!
You’re my favorite. You know how to make me fall out of my seat laughing with your non-provoked attacks on posters and black women. You take yourself so seriously. Please don’t ever stop posting because you entertain me entirely too much (seriously no b.s.)! I think if you haven’t already thought about it, you should seriously consider being a stand up. Or write a book and do the t.v. circuit like Ann Coulter. You would make all kinds of money because there’s always someone in this great country of ours that will believe in and buy into anything. You could get out of your money troubles due to joblessness. I mean it, think about it. Best of luck!

Only the officer should deserve punishment, why are people targeting his parents home in Nevada, and leaving bomb threats? Ignorance at it’s best.

  54. *«Solid Rich Girl»*

LOCK EM UP AND THROW AWAY THE KEY!!! PEOPLE ARE GOING CRAZY OUT HERE IN THE BAYAREA RIGHT NOW BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW HE SHOT OSCAR FOR NOTHING!!! HE WAS DEAD WRONG FOR HIS CRIME AND NOW HE HAS TO DO THE TIME!!!

  55. This is a show…LETS SEE IF HE GETS CONVICTED….I REALLY BELIEVE THIS IS A SHOW…

  56. Have Not Thought Of A New User Name

    @ 12.Honest Critic

You are 100% right. I’m from the BayArea and everytime there is an officer involved shooting here people start acting a fool. I know they are angry but what they are doing by burning stuff is showing how they have already formed an opinion (even though its obvious). Then the cops that do go trial always get a change of venue, and more than likely it’s a county that is all white. I can see this trial taking place in San Mateo County or Marin County, and the people there don’t care nothing about a white officer killing a black man.

I hate to say it but if this trial don’t take place in Alameda County, Oscar Grants family may not see justice. They go try to move this trial so far from the Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond area smh.

  57. Camille

ABOUT TIME!!! People it’s been because of public pressure why he has finally been arrested. It’s not over…please don’t forget that and don’t let up on the media or the legal system to do what’s right. Keep talking and don’t let this issue fade into the background. We need justice for Oscar Grant III and a precedent so that this won’t happen again. The battle is not over!
