Wow…Obama is such a cool guy…chillin’ with Mayor Fenty, going to the SPOT, Ben’s Chilli Bowl. I live in Bmore, so I used to drive 40 miles to grab Ben’s Chilli Bowl, then drive 40 miles back home, all in the same night–just to satisfy a craving. The restaurant is a landmark, for those of you who don’t know. The owner has a sign that says “only bill cosby eats for free” but I’m sure he’ll add Obama to that list very soon.

These Obama sightings in DC are just so exciting. IF you live in DC, get used to the Paparazzi…I heard even TMZ hired a DC team just

I make it my point of duty to watch “Meet the Press” every Sunday, but I deliberately stayed away from it yesterday. Frankly, I really do not care what that old slave Bill Cosby had to say. Bill Cosby is ill-informed on the critical and complex issues that shape Black people’s lives and his words only reinforce ill-gotten perceptions about our community. He attacks Black people while consciously ignoring classist. This is a man who talks down to the Black men for sleeping around and having children out of wedlock when he himself has fathered a child out of wedlock, while he was married. We must all not forget that charges were brought against Uncle Bill by a woman who claimed he drugged her drink and molested her in his mansion…yep, you guessed it…while he was married. I guess Uncle Bill’s rule is “do as I say, not as I do.” “America’s Dad,” my a$$.

He also rips the Black women on poor parenting obviously losing sight of the big forces that make it difficult for poor parents to do their best jobs and for poor children to prosper. While Uncle Bill took full advantage of the civil rights struggle, he decisively denied it a place in his career. He has flatly refused throughout his long tenured career as a funny man to deal with Blackness, color and our struggles. Now that he is getting ready to die, it is ironic that Cosby has finally answered the call to racial leadership forty years after it might have made a difference. But it is downright tragic that he should use his status to launch rhetorical bombs at Black people. I guess spitting in Black people’s faces is high on his Bucket List.

Linda, I think you are preaching to the choir here. President Elect Barack Obama has demonstrated he is pretty rational and intelligent. Him and his team are very aware of the dangers that face him all over the place. On Nov 4th when he made his victory speech in Chicago, he clearly stood between a pair of 12-feet high armored glass

Also, on the news they were talking about the type of security that they are using for the inauguration. They are going to have armored glass, snipers, massive secret service, the United states army, and things that we haven’t even seen used for a President. Protection that people in the army use. Yeah I think you are just being Captain Obvious here.

Bill is the truth. He has enough money and age to say what is really going on and not care about what people think. He’s right on so many levels, and he admitted he voted for obama because he was black. I can respect his honesty. He not trying to be the leader of anyone and he’s said this many times. We need to be the leaders of our own families. Poor parenting has nothing to do with money. When you let beyonce video teach your little girls how to be ladys and Diddy and jay z and TI shape your sons perception of a man the state we are in now is what you get.

Be for real CL he buying Chilli is it that serious? There are other things going on in news and poltics.
I dont want to see him buying food and running on the beach. I want to see him talk to Nanci and her crew about the Bush tax credit and what will replace it. Cause if he dont come up with someting fast we all will have higher taxes. I expect yall to report on thatif it happens

@ JA…

I believe you are addressing me? Uncle Bill did not care about Black issues when he was riding high back in the 1980’s. Black people problem didn’t just started yesterday. All the things that he is addressing now were going on more so in the 1980’s than they are today. That was when the crack epidemic was at its highest, so Uncle Bill had plenty of fodder to chew on but he chose not to. So why has he chosen now to tell Black people that we’re not acting right? I’ll tell you why: He was a boot licking, b*tt-licking, bamboozled, half-baked, sissified, punkified, pasteurized, homogenized n*gger, who felt he was above Black people and that we weren’t relevant to his cause. But I got news for Uncle Bill: We weren’t relevant to you then, you are not relevant to us now….die already.

i wish i could go, but i don’t have the money to get over to D.C or get tickets. but that is history being made. and i’m happy obama is president and NOT just because he’s black (although i ain’t gonna lie it helps, but i NEVER would of voted for him based on that reason alone) he’s very smart and i don’t know about y’all but i couldn’t deal with another 4 years of pretty much another Bush. I had no say in that back in 04 but i’m 18 now and proud to say that my voice made a difference

I think we need to be real about it I Love my Black people but we as a whole are jacked up. I think that Bill Cosby tells the truth and instead of being offended we should be convicted and do something about it. Of course we have had some of these same issues back in the day but now it has become a epidemic. Instead of siliencing the truth we need to stand up to it b/c whether or not Bill Cosby ever opens his mouth to talk about Black people again these same issues are occuring in our community and is increasing rapidly.

@SSister…

I agree…but what are you (meaning those that criticize) doing to help the cause except sit on the sidelines and critique Black people? As much an extremist as the Black Panther Party was they implemented workshops in urban community to help the advancement of Black people. The most famous and successful of their programs was the Free Breakfast for Children Program, initially run out of an Oakland church. Other survival programs were free services such as clothing distribution, classes on politics and economics, free medical clinics, lessons on self-defense and first aid, transportation to upstate prisons for family members of inmates, an emergency-response ambulance program, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and testing for sickle-cell disease.[14] Given how small and low budget they were, that was a huge accomplishment.

Black youths have been hearing that they’re nothing all their lives so they believe they are nothing; they’ll believe they are failures. Psychologists have studied the effect of labeling and said that a child will act in the manner in which he or she is labeled. Which means that most of these kids aren’t ADD or autistic but because they are told they are and medicated for these fake diagnoses, they act accordingly. If you constantly beat the Black youth down and say he/she ain’t sh!t then they too will act accordingly. Its time to take a different approach and start telling these Black youths the truth: The truth about their history and about his or her royalty status. Teach them that they can be anything and everything they want to be and we’d be surprised at the results.

Clearly, those of you that decry Mr. Cosby’s opinions have not had the pleasure of experiencing the high minded posting of today’s ‘misguided urban embarassments’ who see no problem posting vulgar, ignorant pics (ladies please stop taking pictures where your butt leads) and displaying an outlandish amount of tattoos, piercings and grillz. Stop focusing on Mr. Cosby’s missteps and try to understand where he is coming from and that is from a time and place (a galaxy far away, it seems) where black folk were a sense of pride and not consternation to one another.

Check out a party site, any party site. We can and should be SO much better than what we allow others to see.

The pathology (lack of self esteem born out of slavery)is a given, stop making excuses and come up. It is the very least one can do.

I have to agree with 23, I am a fan of Mr. Cosby’s type of critique, it involves us really looking at the mistakes we are making as a people. And although he didn’t follow his own advice that does not make it less true. I believe we as a people get caught up in blaming others for our problem instead of taking a hard real look at ourselves. And most of what he speaks is true, and I have said it before the truth hurts.

I am so syked about the inauguration, I am from b-more and I had a ticket but I couldn’t make it do to the fact that it is also my

BBBBIIIIIRTTTTTHHHHDDDDAAAAYYYYY, January 16. I will be in Vegas baby!

Don’t make me go Rick Warren on you, bruh. Is your name really D@mnsexy?

Anyway brother, don’t get caught up with these numbers. The white man will throw numbers at you as smoke screen…”deceptive facts” is what I call them. Lawyers use this technique all the time. A witness will say “I saw Joe a block away…” and the lawyer will come back at the witness and say “Are you telling me you distinctly saw my client almost a mile a way.”

I understand your numbers scheme, but how many were wrongly convicted? Did you look into that?

I dont know where you been, but BIll has been speaking out about the status of black folks since the 70’s. Read one of his books. Just because he wasnt out there trying to make money off of it like Jessie and al doesnt mean he wasnt behind the scene. In the late 80’s and early 90’s he spoke out against stand ups who were offensive to the black community. He is proof that you dont need to act a fool, hold up traffic, go to jail, tear up your own neighborhood, to make a positive impact in the lives of others. His message is so simple that people wont do it becaues sounds like hard work. stop looking for a leader. Take care of you your kids. Tell them that they can be any thing they want to be. They dont have to dance well and sing or play a sport to be success. They dont have to do drug and sip syrup to be cool. Tell them they can be the next Condi Rice, Colin Powell, Dr. Sampson Davis, Dr.Rameck Hunt and Dr. George Jenkins . Strive to be the best parent/role model. Stop all this I’m doing the best I can.

Black people aren`t offended by Bill Cosby speaking the truth. The problem with black people in America is that we are seen and portrayed in the media in extremes.Either we are presented in the media as being too black and coming on too strong like Rap music, Jesse Jackson,Al Sharpton or Spike Lee or we are presented in the other extreme as being not black enough and coming on too weak like Tiger Woods ,Bryant Gumble,or Conde Rice.Neither extreme is a accurate image of most black people, most black people are in the middle. Finally, along comes a breath of fresh air in the form of Barack Obama, who is in the middle, a calm centered black man and that`s how he connected with the people, and who the media could not categorize to fit these two extremes. And this is Bill Cosby`s problem when he speaks negatively about poor blacks he is coming on too strong,he is full of rage and anger which is destructive.Cosby dosen`t connect with most people because the majority of blacks are in the middle they do not have the extreme rage and anger that Cosby displays.Jesus lectured people too,but he was calm and wasn`t full of extreme rage and hostility like Cosby.

No disrespect “Bianca” but that is a lie. Christ spoke with all types of rage and indignation when it was necessary. The Christ that is taught in these churches is not the Christ of the Bible. All one needs to do is open it and read. You don’t go into the Temple with a cat-o-nine-tails bullwhip and whip dudes and livestock out of the Temple unless you have an extreme amount of anger and zeal. Bill Cosby is a man who has danced with the devil while still trying to tell black people what is wrong with them. I don’t begrudge him that, none of us are perfect, but it always seemed that his criticisms of black people were in juxtaposition to how he wanted whites to perceive the black community. While crack was overwhelming every black neighborhood in the U.S., he had a show about a black doctor father and a black lawyer mother who’s children had problems like making fake designer sweaters. Beyond that; the man was a drug user, a philanderer with the women of the other races, and a damn pervert. His message is a zealous one but an aimless one. The man preaches “education”, and he made his money on selling his soul with the Boule and playing the minstrel. He is the quintessential American dream negro, a million and one “honorary doctorates”, lol. Either you earn a degree or you don’t. “Honorrary doctorates” are for pawns. Just because you don’t curse doesn’t mean that you’re a proper role model. I honestly believe that this elderly crusade that he is on is predicated off of a guilty conscience.
