POLITICS: OBAMA ISSUES FIRST VETO THREAT / CLINTON TESTIFIES AT CONFIRMATION / MEEK SEEKS SENATE SEAT / OBAMICON.ME
Wednesday, January 14, 2009

President-elect Barack Obama and his Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel leave the weekly Senate Democrats luncheon at the US Capitol on Tuesday. Obama attended the meeting to talk with Democrats about approving President George W. Bush’s request for the second $350 million of the Troubled Asset Relief Program.
On Tuesday, Obama also issued his first veto threat in the closed-door meeting. According to Sen. Joe Lieberman, Obama told former colleagues that if Congress passes a resolution blocking release of the second half of the financial bailout funds, he will veto it.
“I was glad that he said that. He made an appeal [because he] really needs this extension of the TARP money,” said Lieberman, an independent who still caucuses with Democrats.
The original TARP legislation required the president to specifically request the second half of the funds. Congress then has fifteen days to disapprove of the request or else the money is dispersed. If Obama vetoes the disapproval, Congress would need a two-thirds majority to override that veto to prevent the money from being spent.
CLINTON TESTIFIES AT CONFIRMATION

U.S. Secretary of State Nominee and incumbent U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton listens as she testifies during her confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Capitol Hill on Tuesday.
The ranking Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Sen. Richard Lugar from Indiana, offered a bit of praise for the former first lady:
“President-elect Obama has boldly chosen the epitome of a big leaguer. Her qualifications for the post are remarkable… Her time in the Senate has given her a deep understanding of how United States foreign policy can be enriched… She is fully prepared to engage the world on a myriad of issues that urgently require attention.”
Clinton’s confirmation is being spoken of as a certainty.
MEEK SEEKS SENATE SEAT

U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek, pictured with his mother former Congresswoman Carrie Meek, son Kendrick Meek Jr., sister, Lucia Raiford and mother-in-law, Lois Johnson, announced his plans on running for Florida’s open U.S. Senate seat after Sen. Mel Martinez decided that he would not run for reelection in 2010 on Tuesday in Miami.
If elected, the 42 year old would become the state’s first black senator. If he loses, however, he will have given up a politically secure seat in Congress while his party is in control.

Paste Magazine has launched Obamicon.Me
According to Josh Jackson, Editor-in-Chief of Paste, “Shepard’s original Hope poster was so iconic, we thought people would have fun making their own version to make their own personal statements about politics, culture or whatever. The feedback from readers has been great. The best line I’ve heard about Obamicon so far: ‘Obamicon might change the world…or at least everyone’s profile pics.’”

I keep telling people that Obama is not weak. Don’t confuse the ability to remain cool and to listen with weakness. I don’t even understand how people can even believe that he’s weak, he was a lawyer, and a potential Wall Street employer, he can be ruthless when necessary. People forget, it’s not how often you swing in a fight, its do you swing when and where it counts.

——-Obama must “veto” Congrees because that 700 billion must be put into the
——-American economy to further devalue the dollar. American people, particualrly
——-our people, are so infatuated with the paper dollar that they think that just
——-printing up and imputing 700 billion dollars will solve the “economic crisis”. All
——-this drama is to throw the American people off. That’s why they did the same
——-thing with the first package. It’s for theatrical purposes. Eventually it will cost
——-$10 for a loaf of bread and $15 for a carton of milk, while people get hyped up
——-over a damn veto, smh. The economy will fall through the basement, and they
——-will have to scrap the American dollar for some other form of currency.

——On another note, that hand gesture that Kendrick Meek is doing is a hand
——gesture that you’ll see many mainstream TV journalists and politicians do. He
——is informing the people “in the know” that he is also “in the know” and he is
——hoping that it will be enough to get them to trust him with a position on the
——Senate. The white man does not like to give Senate seats to negroes, he’ll
——usually allow them into the House (negro) of Representatives. America is falling
——now though, so I expect to see more black faces in the higher levels of the
——government. He was probably introduced into “the craft” by his mother. As a
——matter of fact, I’m sure he was.
——That inverted triangle on the Obama picture is an upside down pyramid to show
——that he is a h*mosexual.

i love barrack but he need to look closely at the bailout money. the banks are not using the money for wha tit is supposed to be usd for. The baks are just buying other banks with the money and ot reworking mortgages like they are supposed to be doing. They are not even documenting how the money is being used. The banks are pretty much lawless and continue to put people out in the streets. The same taxpayers who’s money went into the bailout in the first place. The credit market has not opened up and that is one of the reasons the auto industry is failing they cant secure loans formt he banks. We cannot just hand these clowns another 350 billiion without first putting more restrictions and more governing over what is being done with the money. I think Barack needs to speak up and push the banks to do the right thing. or they should recieve no more aid from taxpayers. Otherwise the rich are getting richer. While taxpayers and homeowners suffer.

@ Judah,
The only way that money will devalue the existing currency in circulation is if it was printed. The Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) Fund is not money that was printed; in fact, it was borrowed money. Money loaned to the US government from other countries, including China, probably at a ridiculously high interest rate. Printing money is the last, last resort in any economy because not only does it devalues the currency, it also causes hyper inflation. What is hyper inflation? In layman’s term, inflation alone is an increase in prices at yearly intervals. Right now the US inflation rate is at 3% per year. In hyper inflation it is increases in prices at monthly intervals and they could reach 50% per month. Therefore, you were being modest when you put the price of bread at $10. This TARP fund has to be paid back by the government i.e. tax payers; and don’t ask me when that will happen.
My point is the US government has not started printing “rescue” money yet.

—I know about Amero and I see your point. However, neither countries, US, Canada
—nor Mexico has expressed a desire to go that route, which I would not expect
—they would..lol. I believe converting to the Amero would have been more likely had
—Hilary been president, since NAFTA was one of Bill’s more defining
—accomplishments during his presidency.
—Obama on the other hand, railed against her during the democratic race, saying
—she supported NAFTA and NAFTA did not provide jobs for the American people.
—Even though, to be fair, she was not a senator at the time, therefore she
—did not have a vote; which she claimed she would have voted against. Then she
—later spoke about NAFTA as if it was the best thing since oxygen…lmao.
—Frankly, I believe if the US was to scrap it’s currency and convert to a new currency
—it would be the Euro.

—–We’ll see brother. The point of the Federal Reserve is that it makes it easier to
—–have control over not just the money, but the value of the money. They can
—–literally decide how much a dollar is worth based on how much money they print.
—–They could not do that with silver and gold. This is how you know that this entire
—–”economic crisis” is contrived, with the intent of inspiring more fear in the
—–American people, which will make it easier for them to bring in new reforms in the
—–name of “saving the economy”. The whole thing is predicated on “good faith”.
—–The entire European/American economic structure is. There is no difference
—–between a stockbroker and the average 3-card monty player.

—Anyone who uses a Stockbroker deserves to be robbed. If you need someone to
—invest your money for you then you have no business in the stock market. Buying
—IBM stocks through a stockbroker will not make them worth any more than if you
—were to set up your own broker account and buying the stocks yourself. In fact,
—you end up losing more because you have to pay the thief to buy the stocks

Yet another reason I didnt vote for him. First things first, find out what happen to the first pay out. Next assign an overseer to identify where money is going with rules of use.
Whats funny is the fact that most Americans dont even know what veto means and in a way does not even apply in the United states. First the “Veto” indrectly means the president didnt sign to bill. The bill goes back to the house that sent it up. now if 2/3 of the congress votes for the bill, it over rides the president. So it really dosent matter if he “veto’s” or not.
Lastly most Americans are against the bailout. This is 2009 Elections or next year. This election is as important if not more important the presidential election. In Congress ( where the laws are made for real) there could be a shift of power with 4-6 Republican congressmen leaving office. People will be watching and if they dont like what they see say goodbye to Nanci paloski.

There is no private with elected officials.
and Liebermann is one of the most honest congressmen seated and the fact that he is jewish has nothing to do with him repeating what Obama said out of his month.

Why isn’t that noone is protesting and marching in front of government buildings, marching on Washington, to demand these politicians solve this budget crisis, because they can if they wanted to, but are marching and protesting over a cop shooting a man? The ramifications of the economy is greater and will have dire consequences than a man getting shot in Oakland. Although, I feel bad for the family. American people need to wake up. We may look down on the 3rd world nations, but atleast when their politicians steal their money, after awhile there is a coup, and the nation take their country back. We sit back and complain and make idiotic jokes on television. Atleast the 3rd world actually fight for themselves. Over there, Bush and Cheney and his administration would have been in jail. But over here, where we have the freedom to demand change, we act like punks about it.

Americans don’t have the freedom to do a damn thing except for complain. That is what democracy is. Democracy is actually just the right for the peasants to complain and throw tantrums. You’re hamstrung by the false doctrine that America is the greatest country in the world or that “it can’t get any better than America”. This is why the people cannot change things and are just sheep. In the ancient time, if a peasant complained about the king, he was imprisoned or killed. It made the king a virtual god, but the downside of that is that when the peasants organized and revolted, the king was put to death. The greatest thing that the eite ever created was the “democracy” and the “bureaucracy”. Even if the commoners wanted to revolt, they wouldn’t know how, nor where to start because the democratic system is so circuitous. They make you think that your “congressman”, your “state assemblyman”, or what have you is working for you, when they are actually working for the elite. The elite allow them to do just enough to shut you up and have you continue to think that you have a say in things. When is the last time that a politician improved anything whatsoever?

You said, “Why isn’t that no one is protesting and marching in front of government buildings, marching on Washington, to demand these politicians solve this budget crisis, because they can if they wanted to, but are marching and protesting over a cop shooting a man?”
I know you meant that to be a rhetorical question, but I have an answer for it. You must be white to make such a dumb a$$ statement. The reason I assume you are white is because your only concern is the f*cking economy. You have nothing else to worry about. On the other hand, Black people have far more important things to worry about other than this wretched economy. The plight of our young Black men and women in our communities are always on our mind. Especially with all the violence, crime and negative obstacles we have to face here and abroad. High teenage pregnancy rate among Black teens have soared. The high school dropout rate is crazy high. Families in the inner cities living in poverty. The incarceration rate among Black youths especially young males from 16 to 30 years old is through the roof. The jobless rate among Black people period is a problem and isn’t getting any better. We have to worry about working twice as hard to be considered half as good as our white counterparts. Last but not least, we have to worry about the cops. Yes, the standing order cops in America have been given to hunt down and shoot the Black man on sight and then ask questions later. Sorry, to be the turd in the punch bowl at your party, but we are not marching for government to fix the economy, because we have to be alive first for the sh!t to affect us. And secondly, if we are alive, then we have to ensure our human rights are restored in order to for us to benefit from it. The aforementioned things have to be righted first before Black people can give a d@mn about this economy. You dig?
