POLITICS: OFFICIAL PRESIDENTIAL PORTRAIT / OBAMA’S LETTER TO DAUGHTERS / BUSH’S FAREWELL / BURRIS SWORN IN

Check out the official presidential portrait of President-elect Barack Obama. It’s the first time the portrait has been taken with a digital camera.

In other Obama news, according to incoming White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, Obama will allow gays to serve openly in the military by overturning the controversial “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. The pronouncement came in an exchange with members of the public who sent in questions and were answered on YouTube.

“Thadeus of Lansing, Mich., asks, ‘Is the new administration going to get rid of the “don’t ask, don’t tell policy?’” said Gibbs, looking into the camera. “Thadeus, you don’t hear a politician give a one-word answer much. But it’s, ‘Yes.’”

OBAMA’S LETTER TO DAUGHTERS

The Obama family graces the cover of the January 18 issue of Parade Magazine.

In the magazine, Barack Obama reveals in an emotional letter his hopes and dreams for daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, as well as every child in this nation.

In the letter titled, “Letter To My Daughters,” Obama writes:

“I want for you to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world. And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That’s why I’ve taken our family on this great adventure.” [Read the letter in its entirety.]

BUSH’S FAREWELL

Before handing the reins to Barack Obama, George W. Bush delivered a final farewell speech as president in the East Room of the White House on Thursday.

Bush called Obama’s inauguration a moment for national “hope and pride” but warned Americans against any let-up in the war on terrorism.

BURRIS SWORN IN

U.S. Senator Roland Burris raises his right hand as wife Berlean looks on while Vice President Dick Cheney swears him into the Senate at a ceremony in the Old Senate Chamber at the U.S. Capitol on Thursday in Washington.

Burris was appointed by Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich to fill the Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama.

  1. What a lovely picture of Obama. He’s very photogenic.

    Re: Brandi
Well of course, its the presidential farewell address. This happens every 4 years, its always been like this.

Farewell to President Bush. His address only reminds me that he’s actually not a bad person, he honestly thinks he tried to do what’s right, he is just an incompetent person for commander in chief. It is also evident that he sees the world as black and white with no shades of grey, which explains his poor policies. I hate to say it but…he actually means well, he’s just a failure.

Somewhat off topic, but it always gets me when Bush refers to Condoleezza as Condi, lol.

I guess your statement about Beyonce attracting negativity was true, cause she managed to pull your ass out of cyberspace to bring negative energy to this post, lol. And for the record, alot of entertainers fall victim to some if not all the “negatives” you feel beyonce personifies…some of them are even considered musical legends. Just a little food for thought…

  5. Detroit All Day!

LORD I’m so concerned/nervous about how “Sasha Fierce” is going to “bring it” on Tuesday….Let us pray, Father, please inspire “Sasha Fierce” to tone it down in all her mannerisms, dramatics, voice belting, and the like during the singing of The Obama’s first song. Let her not want to feel the need to “take it there” and make the moment about her but to remember why she is there in the first place. To contribute to the achievement of Barack Obama, nothing more and nothing less…Amen!

    And the letter was beautiful!

  6. Doland

so he can make an UNPOPULAR decision to benefit gays, but not a word yet about what he intends to do for all these black and white folks on the street starving.

and no word about making sure blacks get equal opportunity in the courts, housing, jobs, etc.

he won’t get my vote again if he doesn’t step up.

  7. Doland

all it takes is an EXECUTIVE ORDER to end affirmative action for new immigrants which should be going to black americans. NO WORD YET!

  8. Proud

    Obama looks really handsome :)
