Last night at 7:35, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. administered the oath of office to President Barack Obama a second time in the Map Room of the White House. Roberts began by asking Obama whether he was ready. “I am, and we’re going to do it very slowly,” Obama replied.
The do-over was to dispel any confusion after Tuesday’s oath and erase any doubt that Obama is legally president, although Obama became president at noon Tuesday without taking the oath as stated in the Constitution.
KENNEDY DROPS SENATE BID
Caroline Kennedy has dropped her bid for the Senate seat vacated by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Kennedy, widely considered the front-runner to replace the former first lady, cited personal reasons and said she told NY Gov. David Paterson that she was no longer interested in the job.
According to her one-line statement: “I informed Governor Paterson today that for personal reasons I am withdrawing my name from consideration for the United States Senate.”
PRESIDENT HALTS GUANTANAMO CASES
Pres. Barack Obama will issue three executive orders today, with one demanding the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay be closed within a year, according to a senior administration official.
The other executive orders involve banning torture formally and reviewing detention policies, procedures and individual cases.
Guantanamo Bay became a big component of criticism for the Bush administration, whose critics believed had used torture on terror detainees. President George W. Bush and other senior officials, however, repeatedly denied that the U.S. government had used torture to extract intelligence from terror suspects. Obama’s move will now set off a fierce legal struggle over where the prison’s detainees will go next.

I don’t understand the relevance of Guantanamo Bay being closed, other than it being done for appearances (like Obama’s ‘image’ demands everything be done for). The United States has numerous facilities worldwide that the public doesn’t know about that are being used to torture and interrogate “terrorists”. What is the point of moving these people from one prison to another, other than to erase the black eye that Guantanamo Bay has put on America worldwide?
It is also very interesting that Caroline Kennedy has decided to turn down that Senate seat. She must either have found a more lucrative venture (which is difficult with as much skimming those devils do), or she was told behind the scenes by her sponsors that the Senate seat was going to be as high as she would be allowed to ascend.

Roland Martin reported that someone would challenge whether President Obama would be officially the President even though the Constitution states that effective at Noon on January 20th he is/was officially the president so his lawyers had him re-take the oath just so there wouldnt be any controversy.

I have a hard time believing that because just off of name recognition and cooperation of the media, she should easily be able to get the amount of “votes” needed to retain the Senate seat. Who could she possibly run against that could give her a run? The issue with Blago in Illinois should be enough to show people that top officials are not elected, they are selected. I believe that if she did actually decide that she does not want to run for the Senate seat, it is because she has other options or just doesn’t want to be bothered maintaining the facade of acting like she cares about people, like all politicians must.
It is good that Obama retook the Oath. I already heard conservative pundits saying he not really the president. It’s the last thing Obama would want is for one of these a$$hole to go research the Oath and the validity of the Oath of Office to presidency. You know what it is with these conservatives, Uncle Toms and racist white people? Other than the obvious racism and self-hate, its jealousy. They are jealous of Obama because he is better than they are. Yes, we are taught that every man is created equal but everyone is not equal on an intellectual level. They are also fearful. I’m a New Yorker as well and believe me, if she wanted to win and get that Senate seat, she could. Her voice and her “experience” have nothing to do with anything. The Kennedys are nothing but the Democrat version of the Bushes and they have done everything asked of them to attain prestige.

I dont know why Cheif Justice didn’t just read the oath from a piece of paper in the first place, rather than trying to remember it off by heart.
If Justice Roberts hadn’t messed it up there would be no controversy. President Obama knew the order of the words and was going to say them as such, but Justice Roberts got them backwards and since Obama has to repeat after him he had to try and say it like him.
Folks want to try to challenge his presidency any way they can.

had to come in here and comment because this is very serious. I was really shocked at every single President(which is what he is now) Obama post the 1st 30-40 comments is- My president is black! History has been made, I feel so good I wanna cry’ type comments. I feel every senitment to an extent. Yes history has been made and it’s a wonderful accomplishment, It was a very emotional moment. But now…. it’s time to get to work! Instead of talking about how proud you are keep please keep your eyes open to the policies that are about to be reversed and taking place. I am a christian, Devoted to what I believe and yes I voted for President Obama to be in office. I knew he bent a couple of his perspectives on certain issues but yet it was a choice between the lesser of 2 evils on certain subjects. He came out the winner on that in my mind. But what I want to see and what I expect of my president is morals, and care for the common people as well as protecting this country. I have to say within the last 24 hrs I am not pleased with what i see.
Reversing laws on abortion so that the federal gov’t can fund hospitals yet freezing gov’t workers salaries? Rumors of banning the don’t ask don’t tell policies in the military?, Closing down a terrorist prison site for the sake of what? letting them loose on our land to terrorize again? And leading up to the beginning of the presidency so many cohorts are being exposed for illegal and indecent behavior. And these people were associated with him. The mexican governor, the illinois governor. All of this leaves an unsettling in the pit of my stomach as it always has but yet and still I pray that the decisions that he makes really does HELP and not HURT America. Then again In Isaiah 24 God proclaimed exactly what would happen to the earth. Read it at your leisure.
I guess the truth will always prevail and yeah most are right. It was God ordained that he take the seat. Because America has to be brought to her knees and who better to execute it than the ‘peoples choice’.
I like the person of Barack Obama and I in no way wish him ill will. And his life and family are a testament to that of a beautiful black role model of love and devotion, but that doesn’t stop the uneasy feelings that I have about him.

it was two things that transpired over all the inguration events and festivities that touched my soul. 1st on the national service day the MLK HOLIDAY when the president went to that youth center. and was shaking hands with all the kids. he went straight to them and you could see the joy, glee and happiness in them kids eyes electricity was in that room, but the president went over and shook the hand of the young girl who was painting or standing by the door that seemed real shy. as the president approached her he grabbed her hand helded it and shook it. and she kept her head down in the exchange of words i pray that the moment will be a changing period in her life where you don’t have to hang you head no more. maybe in a moment of shyness it was a cute moment. now young child; will you just keep your head to the sky and do the best you can. there is a president in your corner now. for the kids, and the young the ones ages birth to 12. it seems after this age we lose them. and the next was the commander in chief ball. where the soldiers were the ‘guess of honor’. the wounded and the healing, the war weary were treated to a night which they were the royality. IT CANNOT BE TOPPED. the children and the veterans thank god that someone now is truly in their corner and i don’t mind sacraficing for your causes. saving our kids and respecting and taking care of the veterans now thats what iam talk’n about.
