POLITICS: PRES. OBAMA signs the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act / FIRST LADY OBAMA ATTENDS RECEPTION
Friday, January 30, 2009

President Barack Obama, with Lilly Ledbetter (R) and Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski (L), signs the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in the East Room of the White House in Washington, DC on Thursday.
The wage discrimination bill, which allows employees more time to file a claim, is named after Lilly Ledbetter, a retired worker at a Goodyear factory in Alabama who discovered she was paid less than her male counterparts.
“It is fitting that with the very first bill I sign … we are upholding one of this nation’s first principles: that we are all created equal and each deserve a chance to pursue our own version of happiness,” Obama said at the bill’s signing ceremony.
First Lady Michelle Obama also attended and spoke at the event, view photos and video when you continue..

That’s right Obama. I love that he is a strong man. A strong man cares just as much for womoen’s rights as he does a man. Strong men “recognize” equality and inequality. Most people only see what they go through and say they get hit the hardest. Not knowing the struggles of their mothers and daughters. I love you, Barack. I’m from Chicago and he was a leader before he ran for president.

My pride button was pushed when they introduced him as “The President of the United States”. My mother was telling me that during her lifetime, he would have been called “Boy” and had to answer to even the smallest white child as “yes, sir or yes ma’am”. We have come a long way baby! We can go further…Obama 2012! Yes, we can…again!

the more this stimulus pkg is exposed it just seems someone is setting the prez up to be the worst prez since herbert hoover. the pkg is full of shit. it should be tiered to priority’s and as far as these banks, they got us in this mess let these bastards fail. bailing out crooks i just don’t understand. and you got the gen accounting office in washington whos been kiting money out the front door for years w/ no accountability were’s the sweeping broom for that agency. the republicans want everything to fall a part so they can continue to scare the hell out of folks . crime; this republican party beats the drum on crime. thats what they want us to think . this republican party who creates the atomsphere of trickle down, w/ nothing on the trickle. not even a drop, then it starts the crime rate to skyrocket, then in 2 yrs. around election time [crime] is their big whammy issue. crime is out of control now and itt seems the whole country is spinning out of control. all hell is breaking loose. mark my words; i can hear the rally cry now . to cut these repubs off at the pass you better get real tough on crime NATIONWIDE its time to shut this shit down for the criminals. or else it will boomerang on you. law enforcement the judical system needs money. court systems, attorneys, prosecutors office, etc…………. upgraded police gear on and on damn it. can’t ya see them republicans speak em w/ fork tongue. all they do is dig ditches while they pocket the riches and then gripe for tax cuts from all you bit…..es. wake up america. WHO’S ZOOM’N WHO that stim pkg needs a rewrite in a bad way. THE PATTERN AND THE HISTORY of the republicans are not hard to figure out now if a man w/ an education equivlent to a 10th grader can see what is over the horizon i know you educated folks got to see them headlights that are on the way.

I agree with 20. The bail out should be for Main Street not some wicked criminals. They should bail themselves out. Is there an assumption that once the banks are bailed out, then the recovery can trickle down into everyday homes?
The majority of voters are average Joe’s not some corrupt bankers. Bail the ordinary citizen out first. Where’s the equality there?
But yeah, this Act is a positive step.

What people don’t understand is that the Obama administrative isn’t going to due any better. My thing is that people are just looking at the color of his skin saying that WE finally have a BLACK president, Thats all cool and ALL, but YOU first MUST understand HIS policies and what they are. (some) People well BELEIVE any and everything that people tell them. Obama makes EVERTHING SOUNDS GOOD, but the reality is that, His administrative is going to DO more DAMAGE than GOOD. Then people may ask how I know YOU always gotta hate or something of that nature. Then I would reply ” Seek the TRUTH and know the TRUTH because the TRUTH well set YOU FREE. To MANY people know about EVERTHING else but dont (KNOW THY SELF).

This bill seems irrelevant. How often does the woman discover that her male counterpart is being paid more money? I just don’t get the point of this.
But the fact that Obama would tackle something as irrelevant as this bill, speaks volumns.

Obama is making sure that women and men get paid the same amount for the same amount of work. Now unless you don’t believe in women’s rights, how is this irrelevant?
F-ckin Republicans get off this site, stay trying to rain on someone’s parade.

@ 27
I am not a Republican, I am an independent thinker, idiot.
I do believe in equal pay for equal work, my point is, how often is that a woman worker knows that her male counterpart is making more or less? I don’t know about where you work, but where I work, folks don’t discuss their pay rate. Which is why I thought this bill was bullshyt. So essentially all this bill does is extend the time frame for pending claims? WTF? 600,000 people applied for unemployment last week and Obama’s first bill is to extend the time frame for claims on equal pay?

—@SIGH
—It seems as though you take pride in being ignorant. Once again, due to your
— poor comprehension skills, you have misinterpreted the bill and have gone on
—- one of your ignorant tirades. The bill is not just for women; it is for anyone who
—- has been unfairly paid for whatever reasons. Race, gender, sex, age, physical
—– abilities, etc. If you work in finance or payroll you can easily find out how much
—– the person sitting next to you makes.

@ 31
How was I being ignorant? I never stated that the bill was limited to just “women”, now I question your comprehension (and reading) skills. The purpose of the bill is to extend the time frame for the processing of the claim, correct? Unless, J.Dakar made some mistake in the above caption, I believe it clearly states, “The wage discrimination bill, which allows employees more time to file a claim.”
And you have the nerve to call me ignorant?
