On Wednesday, President Obama and Vice President Biden met with Sec. of Defense Robert Gates and the Joint Chiefs of Staff to get what the White House called a “comprehensive view of the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan and the impact on our forces”.
The administration plans to decrease troop deployment in Iraq and focus on the fight against the Taliban and al Qaeda in Afghanistan. Gates wants to put Obama “in front of all the people that are involved in these decisions and all the people that are involved in committing the lives of men and women in our uniform so that the president can get all this advice in an unvarnished way,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said.
HOUSE PASSES $819B STIMULUS BILL

On Wednesday evening, the House passed an $819 billion economic stimulus package on a party-line vote, despite Pres. Obama’s efforts to achieve bipartisan support for the bill. The final vote was 244 to 188. No Republicans voted for the bill, and 11 Democrats voted against it.
The Senate is likely to take up the bill next week.
Following the vote, Pres. Obama said:
“I hope that we can continue to strengthen this plan before it gets to my desk. We must move swiftly and boldly to put Americans back to work, and that is exactly what this plan begins to do.”
VATICAN CLASHES WITH PRES. ON ABORTION

The Vatican is upset with Pres. Barack Obama just days after his inauguration, accusing him of arrogance for overturning the global gag rule which bans state funding for family-planning groups which facilitate abortions overseas.
Archbishop Rino Fisichella, president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, said that with “the arrogance of someone who believes they are right”, Pres. Obama signed a decree which would “open the door to abortion and thus to the destruction of human life”.
He added:
“What is important is to know how to listen, without locking oneself into ideological visions with the arrogance of a person who, having the power, thinks they can decide on life and death. If this is one of the first acts of President Obama, then with all due respect it seems to me that we are heading toward disappointment even more quickly than we thought.”
Archbishop Fisichella said he did not believe that those who voted for Obama “took into consideration ethical themes, which were astutely left aside during the election debate. The majority of the American population does not take the same position as the President and his team”.

the vatican is in italy right? so why are the worried about the president of the united states?
whether you think abortion is wrong or not, it’s not your body. you don’t know no one’s life/story, so whatever.
i hope the same people who are against abortion are against the death penalty and war as well. and since people care about wanting these children to be born, why is there so much poverty and child abuse, hungry children, who don’t get an education. do you care about the life AFTER its born?
I am, and always has been, always will be against the “taking of a life.” It’s called an abortion, however, in lamen’s terms it’s MURDER, any way you slice it. There are many reasons one would choose to have an “abortion”, but MURDER is wrong. Yes, a woman’s body is her own, however, the unborn fetus is entitled to a life too, no matter how and at what time it’s conception came about. Just like woman feel we should have the right to do with our bodies as we see fit, then whose going to protect the unborn?
In my opinion as this relates to the churches, i feel they dabble too much in politics..more and more now, they are trying to police everything and have a say in everything. This is making people more and more disenchanted with religion. I think each entity should stay in its place. Politics should not try to police religion, and religion shouldn’t try to police politics…of course in saying this, there are exceptions because sometimes the two entertwine morally.
Archbishop Fisichella’s statement seems more like an attack on Obama’s authority as opposed to his stand on this issue if you ask me.
Inevitably, everyone who has an abortion will have to answer to the supreme one, GOD himself, so whether or not Obama signed something that lifted that ban, doesn’t mean that everyone has to participate, just means it’s now an option.
president obama is not off to a great start iam worried! all this talk about change he said when he was running is bull his $819 billlon simulus packge that just passed n the state capiltol is not gonna stop this sinking economy soo much sepending is not gonna put american back to work! this remindes me of bush when he took ofifice tying to pass a big bill that did not work this not chaged obama!!
They used to say “with baby”, when a woman was pregnant. So now it;s what? “with fetal tissue”??? I am and always will be agaisnt abortion. If you can’t have the baby then put it up for adoption. Difference is youll be giving the baby a chance to LIVE and nowadays you can pick the family your child will go to, and you can even choose open or a closed adoption. Fetal heart beats at 40 days! A baby is a baby. If you say that you are Pro Life then there are no ifs or buts as to the baby having a right to live. I talk to women who have had abortions and work in educating them that there are OPTIONS. IF YOU BELIEVE THAT EVERYONE CAN CHOOSE WHAT TO DO WITH THEIR BODIES, THEN WHY IS USING DRUGS ILLEGAL? AND NOT ABORTING?
The vatican must assume it still controls the government affairs. People are so busy worrying about other people’s issues they fail to look at there own. Why do we look at the spec in someone else’s eye, but not the log in out own. Let’s worry about our own delusions before we start taking care of other folks
Okay all these people calling themselves “Christians” and yet are saying that it’s okay to kill an unborn baby clearly aren’t strong in their faith. This why I think it’s hilarious that Obama consider himself Christian. When just about everything he does goes contrary to his supposed faith. I mean he is alright with the killing of unborn babies?? a christian woman will not live her life the way she want to it live it, but the way God wants her to live it. So this whole it my body and i’ll do what i want with it, and oh i’m a christian is pretty ridiculous and not logical.
SMH
Pro choice. No one has the authority to judge but GOD. End of discussion!!!
…..
Well, What about the handicapped…Let’s say a handicapped woman (with a serious condition) got raped and got pregnant, But it wasn’t her fault that she got raped, What if she’s not able to take care of a child, But she could still get pregnant though, What about that…Is it still wrong for her to get an abortion or not? Because some women can be born with a serious birthdefect, but still be able to get pregnant too. Please, email me with your opinions about this, Because I would love to know what you think about this…my email is camron.brown19@yahoo.com
where you at Judah???
for those that don’t agree with abortion, that’s fine–don’t have one!! but it’s not fair for you to make a decision for everyone else to have to abide by either. if i don’t indulge in alcohol, is it fair for me to illegalize drinking just because i don’t? NO. So being FOR abortion does not mean that you are FOR taking “lives,” more so that you support people having the RIGHT TO CHOOSE.
furthermore, we must have forgotten about back n the day when women stuck hangers inside themselves or drank poisons to abort fetuses. it’s going to get done anyway, it may as well be legal and safe.
