POLITICS: WEEKLY ADDRESS / STEELE ELECTED RNC CHAIRMAN / JACKSON’S LETTER TO PRES. OBAMA

Saturday, January 31, 2009

In the weekly address, Pres. Barack Obama addresses the latest economic news and urges the passing of an America Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.

He also announces that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is preparing a new strategy for reviving our financial system — which will not only ensure that CEOs aren’t abusing taxpayer dollars, but also get credit flowing and lower mortgage costs.

STEELE ELECTED RNC CHAIRMAN

Michael Steele, former Lt. Gov. of Maryland, was elected Chairman of the Republican National Committee during its winter meeting on Friday.

Steele is the first black RNC Chairman. Following his victory, he said, “It’s time for something completely different and we are going to bring it to them. This is our opportunity. I cannot do this by myself.” Check out his victory speech below.

JACKSON’S LETTER TO PRES. OBAMA

Jesse Jackson, pictured with Pres. Barack Obama and former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich back in 2007, has written a letter to the President.

ESSENCE.com asked Jackson to pen an “open letter to President Barack Obama”. I guess all is well following Jackson’s remarks last year.

The governor is the FIRST gov who supported Barack. Barack needs to do right by him. We need our white friends, more than they need us.

Republicans are lined up to steal black votes with that Steele. Blacks gave them that idea when they foolishly admitted to voting for Barack ONLY because he’s black.

Congratulations to Steele. We as a people do not need to participate in divide and conquer. Why should we applaud white folk for recognizing our political clout. I say lets use both Steele and Obama to our advantage, and be done. Steele is not going to be the political capital that the Republicans were hoping for. He is not a puppet.

some of you are so ignorant , its not even funny…michael steele has been on his grind for a very long time, i mean this dude has been a republican forever but ignorant negros think the republicans went to look for him somewhere..smh, he was at one moment the highest elected black republican in office, he is true and unapologetic conservative but simple minded black folks think this is all about them…lol
i`m black and i have always leaned towards the republican party…for a reminder, i would like to say in 2004 nearly a million african american voted for bush…

Pete, If Steele was on the grind for so long why did it take until we had a Senator/Black Democratic President for the Republicans to even give someone black a seat next to at their discussion table? Face it, Steele is another tool to reel in the black vote. I’m not knocking him for being a Republican, I’m just saying he’s foolish if he doesn’t know that.

Your not giving us great examples of Republican Leadership (besides Lincoln and Colin Powell) lol! We have gone through Hell with out last Republican president and even now Republicans won’t even give our current president the time of day. Not all, but many Republicans refuse truely listen to a different perspective without thinking of ways they ~might~ be wrong. I really wouldn’t care if Steele or and other Republican became president of the US, as long as their willing to listen to the ~people~ who elected them into office! That is what they refuse to do, and that is why most of them are no longer in power. Obama has alot of baggage from the previous administration. It is our duty as a nation to support him, because he really is trying to serve us. Pete you gotta be willing to listen in order to be heard

Regardless of political party positions, Congratulations are due to this Brother!
Not all Black people are democrats and though the republicans might be up to no good, his achievements and hard work are just as impressive as the next man.

The Celebration is that we do have a Black President and now there is a Black man heading the GOP, and we have the the first black Attorney General. This is a new day - but, don’t be naive to believe that racist people aren’t still racist and that racism will somehow disappear.

The Brothers are making history and that - regardless of your party afflilation - is a wonderful thing.

Again, why do we as blacks have to justify our support for one party over another? As I told one young man on facebook, I’ve never been asked to justify my support of a white candidate. Only when I threw my hate behind Obama, and now a Steele, am I asked to explain my self in 100 words or less. Lets not allow whites to us (blacks) in more sophisticated ways.

I hope at that point people pay attention to the issues and not fall for the RNC’s change for change sake.

Michael Steele is the biggest Uncle Tom in the history of Uncle Toms. Now, he has taken on a new role - the pawn, the lych squad for the white man. Listen, this n*gger has been elevated to the level of Chairman of the RNC for one reason and one reason only - to attack Barack Obama. And when he attacks him the white man can just sit back and say, “See, he is a black man just like President Obama” Do you think the RNC, a party that is the embodiment of racism would elect a black man as their chair because they’ve suddenly had a change of heart?

I live in maryland and Steele is a good dude. When he was running for senator he went out to all the areas in MD supporting and trying to get out the vote and was way more personable than the other white candidate but they still didn’t vote for him. And FYI blacks used to side with the republican party in the past until they were more focused on money than helping blacks. Democratic party was associated with the klan in the past. Know your history before you judge.

@ Pete, U r correct, and I applaud you for your knowledge. I am totally shamed that blacks voted for Obama simply because he was black. Republicans has done a lot for blacks and everyone… Have we as a people given up our stances on gay marriage, abortion, and religeous morals. We need a self check! What would the Republican Party have to do to secure black support?
Kill all the white people?

Steele is a step towards remaking the Republican Party; not to make it more black, but more diverse.
It’s not about the black vote, which truth to be told is more icing than the cake.

It’s about attracting different views from different looking people which leads to votes from multiple ‘races’ and mixes.

@Proud black Republican!

Show me a “black republican” and I show you an Uncle Tom. Yes, I understand the history of the republican party and that Lincoln was a republican, but what the republicans stood for during the Lincoln era is not what they stand for today. The Republican Party today, does not care about the Black community, so why would you want to associate yourself with a group that does not care about you? Then again, you might feel that the plight of the Black community is as a result of Black people’s own doing. And to be honest, it would not surprise me if you’d think that way, because obviously you are subservient to the white man, always wanting to integrate with him and you seek to ingratiate yourself upon him by way of unnecessary accommodation. They do not care about YOUR issues, YOU care about theirs.

So what if Black People voted for Barack Obama because he is Black? How many times have Black men been pulled over, sodomize and murdered by the police because they were Black? How many times have black men been wrongly accused and given stiffer penalties because they were Black? How many times have black people been turn down for jobs or paid less for similar job as their white counterparts because they were black? How many times have Black people been issued higher interest rates for loans or even denied loans because they were black? And still today, Blacks have to work twice as hard to be considered half as good as their white colleagues for no other reason other than the fact that are Black. Nobody said anything when Black people have been subjected to these atrocities. But as soon as a Black man is seen in positive light Uncle Toms like you are quick to yell out “It’s because he is Black.” President Barack Obama is a very brilliant, charismatic, super-competent, stupendous man who HAPPENS to be Black.

42.

La Maestra

Sunday, February 1, 2009 /

@Pete: Please do not throw Abraham Lincoln and slavery in this discussion. Lincoln’s political party was Republican, but at that point in history, Republicans were “the liberals” for wanting to end slavery, radical republicans actually wanted equal rights and representation for blacks, a VERY liberal idea at the time. The Democratic party didn’t become the more liberal party in mass numbers until FDR. Instead of looking through the lense of “Republican” and “Democrat”, it is more accurate to view politics through liberal/conservative.
Also, do not make the assumption that people on this site are just now hearing about Steele, I have known about his political work for years now, so do not label me and others on this site “simple-minded nregroes” because we feel he is being used by the RNC. The Republican Party got a wake up call, so Steele was a smart choice, but he wasn’t the first choice, there were several rounds of voting. If the Party wants to survive, they need to become more diverse in their representation and in their opinions and begin selecting chairs like Steele, and supporting Bobby Jindal of Louisiana who show different facet of the party. If they go the ignorant, culture wars route with Palin then the Party will become extinct.

these confused black republicans here are STUPID. yes, republican were the GOOD guys and the democrats were the bad guys till the sixites when president johnson (a democrat) helped push civil rights issues which lead to the south voting for the republicans since they pushed racist and homphobic policies up till today.

you can walk blind with those bigoted republicans who brought you “KATRINA” all you like it does not change the fact that they are the BAD and backward bigots now.

putting steele to fight Obama is what they are good at, they put keys to fight obama in the senatoral race, they put palin (DUMB ASS) because of hillary, anybody (I am taking to you dumb black republicans) who falls for this shit must be smoking CRAZY.

“And FYI blacks used to side with the republican party in the past until they were more focused on money than helping blacks. Democratic party was associated with the klan in the past. Know your history before you judge.”

Wrong! Black Americans became democrats because they were tired of the injustices of being black in America. For instince not given the oppurtunity to vote in America. But for the most part being treated less then dirt by almost every white person no matter where they lived and fearing for their lives! Grown Black Men being called boy from someone white who and younger, black women being rapped and police intentionally do nothing to solve their crimes, black churches being burnt to the ground, black children being killed by white children or in most cases grown White men for simply being black. And when they do protest about something needing to be done and how incredibly Bararic whites have treating them, they get hosed for down. This was a first step for change and it had to be done! Being a Republican hadn’t gotten us anywhere in the past so many African Americans choose to have a voice. Blacks had to do something to stop the hatred and protect their ~civil rights~ so that the black youth today wouldn’t have to live in such a chaotic and unjust world. Blacks weren’t given a chance to ~side~ with anyone back then, they were being force to do whatever the white man told them they needed to do. We were at the bottom of the barrel and weren’t given any type of support from our Mayors, govenment & law officials so of course we needed money, but that wasn’t the only reason why most African Americans are Democrats today. Now you research you history.

What I do not understand, is your insistence on calling me dumb and ignorant.. lol when u r are truly the ignorant ones. I love Obama, and did not make any personal jabs at him or his family, or even u! I am a black man that sticks to his God before MAN, and I believe that the morals that are country was founded on should stick! Obama is an intelligent and capable man, but it doesn’t make me any lesser your brother in Christ just because I do not agree with him. I Voted McCain/Palin, and I would do it AGAIN! We can disagree without being disagreeable…. Wasn’t that what Obama was all about… America coming together… U don’t embody that at all! Your insolence is very visible! :-(
@ 41 (DukesMen)- We must get out of blaming the MAN for all of our problems. We can not continue as a people like this! It starts at the HOME, turning off that poison we call RAP! Grow up Obamatrons, and be more aware of your world. Yes, white people has did some immoral and wrong things and still do; but we can overcome it if we change our backward minds! @Proud Black Republican

Wow! I don’t even know where to start. You said “the morals of this country were founded on?” Brother, you don’t know the meaning of morality. Morality is nothing but a code of conduct. The morality of the mob is to murder anyone who disagrees with them. Is that good morals? The morals this country was founded on are hypocrisy and deceit. The oppression of the Black race; the philosophy that holds one race superior and another inferior; the classification of the Black man as sub-human. The rape and murder of innocent black women, men and babies. Is that the code of conduct (morals) you speak of? And no, you are no lesser my brother in Christ because you are ignorant. A crackhead is no lesser my brother in Christ because he uses crack but I still will let him know that he has a problem and is heading down a self destructive path. You said, “We must get out of blaming the MAN for all of our problems.” You are the type of Negro who probably believes that slaves led happy lives. Or that they were well fed and clothed and had a place to call home. Or that it was good that most slaves adopted their owner’s last name because they were considered part of the family. My brother, there is no excuse, in 2009, for a Black man to be as ignorant as you are.

Why should we turn off rap music? Rap music is a Black art form of expression. Rap music is a mirror that is reflecting the conditions that the Black community has been maneuvered into by the white man. If you look in the mirror and you look fat, stop looking in mirror will not make you lose weight. You have to address the source - You. Stop listening to rap music will not fix the problems that the Black community faces, we have to address the problem at the source and get the white monkey off our backs. You claimed that Black people are backwards in their thinking but you are the one who is backwards. Over four hundred years of cruel bondage have made so discombobulated and mentally blind that you don’t even know who the enemy is, so you side with them. You cannot love liberty and brotherhood and commit to its principles while serving a group or entity that teaches physical, emotional and spiritual slavery.

The White man Abraham Lincoln once said, “What constitutes the bulwark of our liberty and independence? It is not our frowning battlements, our bristling seacoasts -these are not our reliance against tyranny. Our reliance is in the love of liberty, which God has planted in our bosom. Our defense is in the preservation of the spirit which prizes liberty as the heritage of all men in all lands, everywhere. Destroy this spirit and you have planted the seeds of despotism around your own door.”

Can I get an Amen?

Stop apologizing! We see colors!

@ Dukesman

Any form of music nowadays was created or originated from the black man therefore, black people shouldn’t feel the need to associated themselves to one particular genre of music. I have to agree with Proud Black Republican on this one…Rap music is in a state of decline. I saw n*ggas dancing and jiving to that musically retarded song “My president is black” from young Jeezy. There’s was nothing inspiring about those lyrics. Nothing was discussed about the struggles of the AA man. Jeezy rather talk about how mama ain’t home and dad is in jail! Give me a f*cking break!

The truth of the matter is, both of these parties don’t give a f*ck about you niggas. They all used a token black male to get your vote: in the administration and in the campaign trail. If this goddamn world wasn’t as politically correct, they wouldn’t even care about your damn vote…they know you’d follow suit anyway.

But you have men like “DukesMen” who only see his color and not his principles. (which is natural for ignorant people) both white and black. He doesn’t see that Obama, like every other politician is likely to be corrupt, so stop “frontin” like he is the messiah!!!!! Blacks has started rap, gospel, soul, r&b, ROCK, COUNTRY, blues, METAL, ect….. I am sure that some of these can do the job of “Black form art of expression”… When u look in the mirror, often times you have the opportunity to CHANGE what you don’t like about oneself, if you stop blaming your bad genes on the issue. If ya fat, exercise; if ya dumb, go 2 school…. Its all about your outlook! R U a whine quitter or a Go-Getter! lol We are not going to get handed our mule an four acres! What can we do? Go to school, get educated; actually graduate from high school; stop having sex with everything that has breath; stop eating chicken and fries everyday, o yeah and hot cheetos! We have to be willing to be more proactive if we expect a damn thing out of this twisted government! No hand-me-downs, that’s why I am a Republican! Holla….

@ JA

Do some research. Most of the music you listening to at the clubs with your white friends originated from black music: Electronica and Rock. And if your an older generation than you were probably dancing to Disco…again which originated from black music. Its a fact. Anything black was considered dirt. Interestingly, its the same sh*t that they sell to their own people to this day.

Secondly, there’s absolutely no correlation between music and stealing. I wasn’t generalizing. I don’t think that I extended my argument to anything else but music….but I know you were!

@Sowhat…

I am not at all surprised that you would agree with black republican - one fool makes many.

I am not associating myself or the Black race for that matter, with one genre of music. “Black republican” raised the issue around Rap music so I addressed Rap music. When Jeezy spoke about “mommy ain’t home, daddy’s in jail,” he is talking about a broken family -one that plagues the Black community. That is why I said Rap music is a refelction of the saddend state of the Black community. You need to come out from under the rock which you live and look at the world around you.

I never voted in an election in this country before until last November, when I casted my vote for President Barack Obama. And yes, I voted for Obama BECAUSE he is Black (I will shout it from the highest mountain for the world to hear. Or if you get me a billboard in Times Square, I will gladly display it) But that is not the only reason why I voted for Barack (This is déjà vu - I feel like I am constantly repeating myself to the same ignoramus). In addition to him being a Black man, I voted for Barack because he has the vision, judgment, temperament, and rhetoric gift that mark him as a leader of enormous potential to lead this country out of its doldrums. So IT IS NOT JUST BECAUSE HE BLACK. I would not have voted for Michael Steele or Flava Flav because I am not into what they are into - buffoonery and coonism.

Got that?

@Black Republican

You really do not know the meaning of words, huh? You said, “I am not obliterated to the fact that both parties will find their token black man to try to get and keep the black vote.” I think you meant to say “oblivious.”

I must say though, one thing you said that I do agree with you on is “if ya dumb, go 2 school.” Make sure you do not miss the next registration.

Question for you DukesMen… What is Jeezy doing to fix the problem plaguing our black friends and family? I would agree with u 100%, if he was doing something in a POSITIVE way to address this. In some of Jeezy’s songs he promotes drugs, promiscuity, sagging and crime; the things that are keeping our fathers from doing what they are “obligated” to do. Hypocrisy and rubbish that you insist on defending. (obligated is a word, look it up) Man, u have to open up to this man…. I am tired of seeing our people getting the short-end, but we have to take some of the slack. Like Obama, I only seen my father once in my life; and like Obama I am going to school to have a family and children and be there for them… I am done with this blog, and I hope u didn’t take anything personally, because I don’t know you, but I want the best for you and our own. But, we are not going to get it with our hands open for a help, we will get it with our fist balled up ready to work and fight for our standing.

@ so what…..
You are very knowledgeable in topics, but can u please stop using the “n” word if you do. Here at the University of Michigan some white guys insist on using it because they hear it in songs and they hear us calling each other that. I know that word won’t go away over night, but for one brother to stop saying it, is one less…

-God bless you all, stay up!

@ Dukesman,

I’m not the idiot. Not once in my post have I supported the republican party or the democratic party. Its pretty obvious that you are a selective reader!

I’m going to reiterate my argument one more time so that you don’t skip, dodge or analyze further….read carefully…this could be hard for you!

I didn’t even touch fully on this issue but I will now. Its actually far from the actual point of this post. The rap industry isn’t the same. It was produced in the underground to be commercialized into the crap that you hear today. I think I specifically said in my post that rap music is in decline. Jeezy wasn’t spewing his none sense because he was reflecting on the dire conditions of the black community. He rather bank a few checks on the communities expense AND, to have profits, he added the following words: “My president is black” as the title and the main chorus. The rest of his jingle went on about fathers are in jail and the moms not there and he adds that his white sneakers needed some cleaning. How does sneakers improve the black community??
But your dumb*ss was too busy shaking your ass to the rest of the jingle!

Don’t tell me that Public Enemies “Fight the power” could ever match the same message as “My president is Black”. EVER!

Secondly, these political parties will do anything for your vote even if it means to put a token black person there: democrats or republicans. To call another black person stupid for rooting for the opposing party is ignorant. Nobody needs to masturbate to Obama like you do!
Besides, all of these stupid parties don’t give a sh*t about your @ss. They put these stupid puppets for you to be “inspired” and “free” and spend your cash at the same time.

Did you get it?

Dirty foreign blacks are a serious liability for black america that we can’t afford.

They are all lined up to uncle tom for the white man just like Uncle Tom Marcus Garvey did before our American black leaders ran him out of the country and got him deported.

Black america we are at war, and it ain’t with the white man. Get these foreign black traitors deported before they help republicans send us all back to jim crow.

Proud black Republican, yes there is a sordid history with the Democrats, but there is a sordid history when the Republicans decided that the southern vote was their goal, therefore they shifted in their values. I don’t like that phrase, “what they’ve done for us.” We as a people must do for ourselves in spite of party affiliation. Hillary felt that she deserved our votes because of all she “done for us.” Rush Limbaugh was appalled at Gen. Powell because of all the Republican party “had done for him.” Lets stop being in debt to white folk.

Also…this version of the Republican party is a new breed…Reagan and Lincoln are both rolling over in their graves at this ignorance. This is not the party that they built. So some of you need to stop bringing up their name to try to justify that your party is lost, dazed and confused. I have to say I am rather impressed by Obama…I have never seen a person have a party so humiliated and run-a-muck then Obama has the Republican party. He made a fool out of them during the election, his tactics aren’t as obvious as the Republicans…he is very smart and seems to know the Republicans moves and is two steps ahead waiting at the finish line. In other words, Obama is playing CHESS while they are playing CHECKERS.

If the republicans keep playing the obstructionists role instead of trying to come up with NEW ideas to help out…they are going to mess around and piss the President off (along with a ton of the American people who are already pissed) and get completely iced out…because the Democrats have gained enough power to do that. Like I said on November 4th the nation spoke and wanted to go in a new direction with the other party…so the Republicans tossing up the same stale ideals is not going to get them nowhere but out of power for the next 20 years. Get wit it!! While I can recognize a positive step forward and diversity…what I will not support is constant coonery. And what I witnessed from this version of the Republican party during this election was a bunch of stale ideals and bigotry. Didn’t appreciate it. They dont want to take accountibility for anything..instead of just saying “look our party blew it” and move on…they would rather throw up a bunch of excuses and finger pointing. The problem is THEY dont want to work with the President and would rather see him fail (like Rush Limbaugh said) then to try to work with him and get us out of this mess. They dont have the power to dictate sh*t….give the President your ideas and keep it moving. If they keep trying to block things just for the sake of bloacking them..then the Democrats and the President need to stop with the bipartisan BS and freezed their asses out of the votes, f*ck it…lets keep it gangsta. there too much work to be done for them to continue to play games with peoples lives like they do.

P.S I wonder if Rush Limbaugh will play “MIKE the Magic Negro” song on his radio show. Idiot. Half the people in that room didnt even look happy about Steeles appointment…after all, Steele did beat out a man who sent out c.ds with “Barck the magic negro” song on it and a man that up untill September belonged to a “Whites only” club. SMH

Pete said:

“i dont want obama to fail but i do know that speeches dont put food on the table and his stimulus is full of wasteful spending that wouldnt anything to stimulate this battered economy”

^Like the Republicans have been doing nothing but wasteful spending on this war and anything else for the past 8 years? And I dont want to here about the dems being in charge of congress for the past two years…they can take accountibility for their part but the Republicans were in charge of congree up untill 2006 and have been the power up untill American kicked their butts out in this past election. WHO FROM THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS GOING TO TAKE ACCOUNTIBLITY FOR THIS MESS?! All they do (including yourself) is make excuses and finger point. You saying this stimulous is filled with wasteful spending..well when Obama had some projects in it that could create jobs through infrastructur, the Republicans complained and wanted more tax cuts for the same group of peopl (again, the same ideals). The dems went out their way to subtract things that the republicans requested for a bill that not one republicans in the house voted for anyway. So whats the point? The Dems just need to put forward the best bill they can and pass it wether the republicans agree or not. They dont have enough power anyway to stop a damn thing. Tired of these people, they are playing too many games and are wasting time.

@ Dukesmen & So what…..

Like I stated I am done with this blog, but it is good that we were able to have this discussion in a civil way without trying to get our ghats and clips, and try to put a hole in somebody.lol No matter our differences, we are all brothers and sisters, and have similar stories. Obama is our president, and unlike “Rush” the idiot, I hope he succeeds, ans wish him the best. I will not bow before Obama, but I will support him, and work to destroy the “crab in a bucket” mentality that plagues us.

-A Republican that has a mind of his own… Proud to be black, proud of both Obama and Steele’s accomplishments! Both of them are victories! @ Doland- can’t take u serious!

~Both parties are corrupt! Yes, the Republicans have done some questionable things, but so have the Democrats. What the Democrats have done is to try to build off of the “victims” of American society and exploit them (blacks, gays, Hispanics and women). They will use you as long as they “need” you and will throw you out when you are of no use, just like the Republicans did in the late 19th century! The only reason I voted for McCain is because I am strongly against abortion… U have to see it for what it is, a game of who can seduce the most sheep, and get them to eat out of their hand, and supply them with “wool jackets”… Obama, in some cases is a pawn, that the Democrates will use to say.. “here is what we did”…
