In the weekly address, Pres. Barack Obama addresses the latest economic news and urges the passing of an America Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.
He also announces that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is preparing a new strategy for reviving our financial system — which will not only ensure that CEOs aren’t abusing taxpayer dollars, but also get credit flowing and lower mortgage costs.
STEELE ELECTED RNC CHAIRMAN
Michael Steele, former Lt. Gov. of Maryland, was elected Chairman of the Republican National Committee during its winter meeting on Friday.
Steele is the first black RNC Chairman. Following his victory, he said, “It’s time for something completely different and we are going to bring it to them. This is our opportunity. I cannot do this by myself.” Check out his victory speech below.

When he was running for senator he went out to all the areas in MD supporting and trying to get out the vote and was way more personable than the other white candidate but they still didn’t vote for him. Yes, I understand the history of the republican party and that Lincoln was a republican, but what the republicans stood for during the Lincoln era is not what they stand for today. The Republican Party today, does not care about the Black community, so why would you want to associate yourself with a group that does not care about you? Then again, you might feel that the plight of the Black community is as a result of Black people’s own doing. And to be honest, it would not surprise me if you’d think that way, because obviously you are subservient to the white man, always wanting to integrate with him and you seek to ingratiate yourself upon him by way of unnecessary accommodation. How many times have black people been turn down for jobs or paid less for similar job as their white counterparts because they were black? How many times have Black people been issued higher interest rates for loans or even denied loans because they were black? And still today, Blacks have to work twice as hard to be considered half as good as their white colleagues for no other reason other than the fact that are Black. Nobody said anything when Black people have been subjected to these atrocities. But as soon as a Black man is seen in positive light Uncle Toms like you are quick to yell out “It’s because he is Black.” President Barack Obama is a very brilliant, charismatic, super-competent, stupendous man who HAPPENS to be Black.

Lincoln’s political party was Republican, but at that point in history, Republicans were “the liberals” for wanting to end slavery, radical republicans actually wanted equal rights and representation for blacks, a VERY liberal idea at the time. The Democratic party didn’t become the more liberal party in mass numbers until FDR. Instead of looking through the lense of “Republican” and “Democrat”, it is more accurate to view politics through liberal/conservative.
Also, do not make the assumption that people on this site are just now hearing about Steele, I have known about his political work for years now, so do not label me and others on this site “simple-minded nregroes” because we feel he is being used by the RNC. The Republican Party got a wake up call, so Steele was a smart choice, but he wasn’t the first choice, there were several rounds of voting. If the Party wants to survive, they need to become more diverse in their representation and in their opinions and begin selecting chairs like Steele, and supporting Bobby Jindal of Louisiana who show different facet of the party. Wrong! Black Americans became democrats because they were tired of the injustices of being black in America. For instince not given the oppurtunity to vote in America. But for the most part being treated less then dirt by almost every white person no matter where they lived and fearing for their lives! Grown Black Men being called boy from someone white who and younger, black women being rapped and police intentionally do nothing to solve their crimes, black churches being burnt to the ground, black children being killed by white children or in most cases grown White men for simply being black. And when they do protest about something needing to be done and how incredibly Bararic whites have treating them, they get hosed for down. This was a first step for change and it had to be done! Do some research. Most of the music you listening to at the clubs with your white friends originated from black music: Electronica and Rock. And if your an older generation than you were probably dancing to Disco…again which originated from black music. Its a fact. Anything black was considered dirt. I never voted in an election in this country before until last November, when I casted my vote for President Barack Obama.
