POLITICS: WEEKLY ADDRESS / STEELE ELECTED RNC CHAIRMAN / JACKSON’S LETTER TO PRES. OBAMA

In the weekly address, Pres. Barack Obama addresses the latest economic news and urges the passing of an America Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.

He also announces that Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is preparing a new strategy for reviving our financial system — which will not only ensure that CEOs aren’t abusing taxpayer dollars, but also get credit flowing and lower mortgage costs.

STEELE ELECTED RNC CHAIRMAN

Michael Steele, former Lt. Gov. of Maryland, was elected Chairman of the Republican National Committee during its winter meeting on Friday.

Steele is the first black RNC Chairman. Following his victory, he said, “It’s time for something completely different and we are going to bring it to them. This is our opportunity. I cannot do this by myself.” Check out his victory speech below.

JACKSON’S LETTER TO PRES. OBAMA

Jesse Jackson, pictured with Pres. Barack Obama and former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich back in 2007, has written a letter to the President.

ESSENCE.com asked Jackson to pen an “open letter to President Barack Obama”. I guess all is well following Jackson’s remarks last year.

Question for you DukesMen… What is Jeezy doing to fix the problem plaguing our black friends and family? I would agree with u 100%, if he was doing something in a POSITIVE way to address this. In some of Jeezy’s songs he promotes drugs, promiscuity, sagging and crime; the things that are keeping our fathers from doing what they are “obligated” to do. Hypocrisy and rubbish that you insist on defending. (obligated is a word, look it up) Man, u have to open up to this man…. I am tired of seeing our people getting the short-end, but we have to take some of the slack. Like Obama, I only seen my father once in my life; and like Obama I am going to school to have a family and children and be there for them… I am done with this blog, and I hope u didn’t take anything personally, because I don’t know you, but I want the best for you and our own. But, we are not going to get it with our hands open for a help, we will get it with our fist balled up ready to work and fight for our standing.

    @ so what…..
You are very knowledgeable in topics, but can u please stop using the “n” word if you do. Here at the University of Michigan some white guys insist on using it because they hear it in songs and they hear us calling each other that. I know that word won’t go away over night, but for one brother to stop saying it, is one less…

-God bless you all, stay up!

    @ Dukesman,

I’m not the idiot. Not once in my post have I supported the republican party or the democratic party. Its pretty obvious that you are a selective reader!

I’m going to reiterate my argument one more time so that you don’t skip, dodge or analyze further….read carefully…this could be hard for you!

I didn’t even touch fully on this issue but I will now. Its actually far from the actual point of this post. The rap industry isn’t the same. It was produced in the underground to be commercialized into the crap that you hear today. I think I specifically said in my post that rap music is in decline. Jeezy wasn’t spewing his none sense because he was reflecting on the dire conditions of the black community. He rather bank a few checks on the communities expense AND, to have profits, he added the following words: “My president is black” as the title and the main chorus. The rest of his jingle went on about fathers are in jail and the moms not there and he adds that his white sneakers needed some cleaning. How does sneakers improve the black community??
But your dumb*ss was too busy shaking your ass to the rest of the jingle!

Don’t tell me that Public Enemies “Fight the power” could ever match the same message as “My president is Black”. EVER!

Secondly, these political parties will do anything for your vote even if it means to put a token black person there: democrats or republicans. To call another black person stupid for rooting for the opposing party is ignorant. Nobody needs to masturbate to Obama like you do!
Besides, all of these stupid parties don’t give a sh*t about your @ss. They put these stupid puppets for you to be “inspired” and “free” and spend your cash at the same time.

    Did you get it?

Dirty foreign blacks are a serious liability for black america that we can’t afford.

They are all lined up to uncle tom for the white man just like Uncle Tom Marcus Garvey did before our American black leaders ran him out of the country and got him deported.

Black america we are at war, and it ain’t with the white man. Get these foreign black traitors deported before they help republicans send us all back to jim crow.

Proud black Republican, yes there is a sordid history with the Democrats, but there is a sordid history when the Republicans decided that the southern vote was their goal, therefore they shifted in their values. I don’t like that phrase, “what they’ve done for us.” We as a people must do for ourselves in spite of party affiliation. Hillary felt that she deserved our votes because of all she “done for us.” Rush Limbaugh was appalled at Gen. Powell because of all the Republican party “had done for him.” Lets stop being in debt to white folk.

  5. dukesman

    @ Black Republican

    Nothing personal….

  6. HOLD ON!!

Also…this version of the Republican party is a new breed…Reagan and Lincoln are both rolling over in their graves at this ignorance. This is not the party that they built. So some of you need to stop bringing up their name to try to justify that your party is lost, dazed and confused. I have to say I am rather impressed by Obama…I have never seen a person have a party so humiliated and run-a-muck then Obama has the Republican party. He made a fool out of them during the election, his tactics aren’t as obvious as the Republicans…he is very smart and seems to know the Republicans moves and is two steps ahead waiting at the finish line. In other words, Obama is playing CHESS while they are playing CHECKERS.

If the republicans keep playing the obstructionists role instead of trying to come up with NEW ideas to help out…they are going to mess around and piss the President off (along with a ton of the American people who are already pissed) and get completely iced out…because the Democrats have gained enough power to do that. Like I said on November 4th the nation spoke and wanted to go in a new direction with the other party…so the Republicans tossing up the same stale ideals is not going to get them nowhere but out of power for the next 20 years. Get wit it!! While I can recognize a positive step forward and diversity…what I will not support is constant coonery. And what I witnessed from this version of the Republican party during this election was a bunch of stale ideals and bigotry. Didn’t appreciate it. They dont want to take accountibility for anything..instead of just saying “look our party blew it” and move on…they would rather throw up a bunch of excuses and finger pointing. The problem is THEY dont want to work with the President and would rather see him fail (like Rush Limbaugh said) then to try to work with him and get us out of this mess. They dont have the power to dictate sh*t….give the President your ideas and keep it moving. If they keep trying to block things just for the sake of bloacking them..then the Democrats and the President need to stop with the bipartisan BS and freezed their asses out of the votes, f*ck it…lets keep it gangsta. there too much work to be done for them to continue to play games with peoples lives like they do.

P.S I wonder if Rush Limbaugh will play “MIKE the Magic Negro” song on his radio show. Idiot. Half the people in that room didnt even look happy about Steeles appointment…after all, Steele did beat out a man who sent out c.ds with “Barck the magic negro” song on it and a man that up untill September belonged to a “Whites only” club. SMH

  7. HOLD ON!!

    Pete said:

“i dont want obama to fail but i do know that speeches dont put food on the table and his stimulus is full of wasteful spending that wouldnt anything to stimulate this battered economy”

^Like the Republicans have been doing nothing but wasteful spending on this war and anything else for the past 8 years? And I dont want to here about the dems being in charge of congress for the past two years…they can take accountibility for their part but the Republicans were in charge of congree up untill 2006 and have been the power up untill American kicked their butts out in this past election. WHO FROM THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS GOING TO TAKE ACCOUNTIBLITY FOR THIS MESS?! All they do (including yourself) is make excuses and finger point. You saying this stimulous is filled with wasteful spending..well when Obama had some projects in it that could create jobs through infrastructur, the Republicans complained and wanted more tax cuts for the same group of peopl (again, the same ideals). The dems went out their way to subtract things that the republicans requested for a bill that not one republicans in the house voted for anyway. So whats the point? The Dems just need to put forward the best bill they can and pass it wether the republicans agree or not. They dont have enough power anyway to stop a damn thing. Tired of these people, they are playing too many games and are wasting time.

    @Sowhat

    Yeah, I got it :)

  9. Proud Black Republican

    @ Dukesmen & So what…..

Like I stated I am done with this blog, but it is good that we were able to have this discussion in a civil way without trying to get our ghats and clips, and try to put a hole in somebody.lol No matter our differences, we are all brothers and sisters, and have similar stories. Obama is our president, and unlike “Rush” the idiot, I hope he succeeds, ans wish him the best. I will not bow before Obama, but I will support him, and work to destroy the “crab in a bucket” mentality that plagues us.

-A Republican that has a mind of his own… Proud to be black, proud of both Obama and Steele’s accomplishments! Both of them are victories! @ Doland- can’t take u serious!

  10. Proud Black Republican

    @ Hold ON!!!

~Both parties are corrupt! Yes, the Republicans have done some questionable things, but so have the Democrats. What the Democrats have done is to try to build off of the “victims” of American society and exploit them (blacks, gays, Hispanics and women). They will use you as long as they “need” you and will throw you out when you are of no use, just like the Republicans did in the late 19th century! The only reason I voted for McCain is because I am strongly against abortion… U have to see it for what it is, a game of who can seduce the most sheep, and get them to eat out of their hand, and supply them with “wool jackets”… Obama, in some cases is a pawn, that the Democrates will use to say.. “here is what we did”…
